It's safe to set the services to "Manual" instead of disabling it. Set all services to manual (by using CTT tool). Do a backup before disabling the services as it may break PC or some apps.

Don't need to click Apply and then Ok... just click OK.
Difference between OK and apply is that OK saves changes and dismisses the dialog box, Apply saves and does not dismiss the dialog box.

@@justoneweek6983 Per its description, it "shares Windows Media Player libraries to other networked players and media devices using Universal Plug and Play."
So, it can stream your music and videos from your computer to other devices. If you don't use WMP, don't have your content grouped into WMP libraries or just prefer to get your content another way, then there's no reason for the service to be running.
I think that it gets enabled only if you set up WMP in the first place, though, so, if you've never used WMP on a PC, it's probably not running.

Wish I would have read the comments before just doing these suggestions... I followed instructions to the letter but upon restart the laptop wouldn't boot into windows and only went to a brown screen with the power icon in the bottom right. Couldn't even get any of the F-key options to work during reboots. Finally had to do a procedure detailed on the MS website to get it to go to repair options... hope it works!

I noticed you had an error on disabling the GameDVR and Broadcast Service, with an incorrect parameter that you totally blew off. So why don't you explain what happened? So you went to the Map Manager Service that you couldn't find and started talking about the Geolocation Service? I gotted confused 🤔

@@onomatopeira The program that needs the service tells Windows to start the service when it's needed. If it's disabled, stuff breaks. The Radio Management Service (RmSvc) in Windows 10 and 11 is responsible for managing the system's radio states, such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and cellular connections. You can turn Off Bluetooth and disable each Wifi adapter instead. Cellular isn't an issue if you don't have a cellular adapter.

"SysMain" Service is another name for "Superfetch" but in Windows 10/11. The functions is to learn/capture usage patterns in RAM and based on that pattern performs "pre-chacing" to speed up the next usage process. This mainly affects Hard disk users. For SSD users, it should be turned off.

While I hate anything running that is not absolutely required and I find this video informative, what I don't understand is why ANYONE would sell or build a computer in 2024 with 4gb of RAM. The RAM utilization on this computer was at 72% without ANY user programs running.
Running almost any program would max out the RAM and bring that computer to a crawl whether you shut down those services or not would make almost no actual difference in the performance.
The minimum requirement to even install Win10 is 2gb and for Win11 is 4gb and all that will really do is allow the computer to boot up, if you ask it to do almost anything else, you better be prepared to WAIT FOREVER!!!
I appreciate the video but your less savy viewers would be better served to show them actual benchmark test results before and after making these changes, and how little difference it would actually make, and then show them the increase in speed by increasing the RAM to at least 6-8gb minimum. It would make a HUGE difference, and make that computer somewhat useful.

@@CrownGEEK Thanks, helpful guide for those that like to max-min their systems. Also helps from a battery perspective to have less services running for those on laptop. I got 16 gb and I still find it helpful. I like to run a tight ship and like my system lean and mean. With microsoft constantly adding in new bloat, your descriptions of what each service does was very helpful in also deciding for myself what to disable - though I already had a lot of this stuff disabled from my own tweaks. The remote desktop especially was a great suggestion. Though I had it turned off those that don't, it could definitely be a security risk even to have it on manual. I will try the sysmain. This video is a waste of time:
Most of these services are actually off by default, already.

I'm not sure you understand what some of these services actually do, nor are for. Your descriptions for several are inaccurate, and you advocate disabling services that aren't running / are already in Manual mode. Assuming this is Pro, you should really look into Group Policy Editor. Disabling is NOT the same thing as Manual. P.S. Sysmain is what Microsoft used to call Superfetch. No clue why they renamed it.

IF you're the ONLY one using your PC why does it matter having Group Policy Editor 🤔. Does it hurt to disable that?

    • @koitsu2013

@@PolizeiPaul Because Windows Updates will often reset what you've changed those services states to, while Group Policies are honoured unconditionally.

You don't want this guy teaching others about changing Group Policy settings. Example " change all settings that are "0" to "1" and those at "1" to "0"...

I will never follow any of these tutorials again! My brand new PC is locked, so much I have to take it to a repair shop, and they are now taking the it back to factory settings and re installing windows. These people come up with these so called help articles and take no responsibility for long term disastrous results!

    • @shadowpaw2873

Sounds like bit locker was enabled and the service was disabled. Unfortunately it's a very easy way to brick a pc without a easy way to re-enable the service. Hopefully the repair shop didn't take you to the cleaners for a simple factory reset.

Win 11 so greatly recognizes GAMES, that it swaps out and freezes all kinds of services - without intervention. Even running with an absurd 8GB RAM, Win11 will do it's best to run the game - first and foremost.
I know we needed efforts like this a few years ago, and there were real gains, but not so much today.

Maybe if you have 10 year old tech running Win10, maybe you'll notice the diff?
