Eric, this video is the best of your best. The importance of the wrist bow in the swing is everything. I have been working on this very thing and it has improved my iron play tremendously It truly is the holy grail of the swing, Excellent!!!
I just found out how to use the wrists a few weeks ago and it has completely changed my swing almost instantly. I went from struggling with a slice to now hitting nice draws almost every time with every club. Thanks for the video Eric! 👍
Simple math Swing A EVERYTHING perfect except the wrists. Setup, body motions, club path, plane, turn, use of legs, arms, shoulders etc. Swing B ONLY the wrist motions are perfect. Everything else is a mess! Setup, path, plane, turn etc. Swing B in my world wins every time. The player who doesn't understand their wrists doesn't understand distance or line which are pretty important in golf 😃.
Eric is correct regarding wrist angles. The hard part is keeping those wrist angles into impact and releasing them at the correct time. I use a device caused the hackmotion wrist sensor that gives feedback via great software at what your angles are throughout your swing and you can compare them to a database of professional golfers. Eric I''d like you to do a review of the hackmotion if you have time.
I just realized this today while working on my swing in my garage with a divot mat of sorts. When cupping my wrist, my impact point was always "fatted" or behind the ball. When bowing/straightening my wrist.. it was just about on target or after the target. Eureka. This is such slept on information Eric. I have many more things to work on in my swing.. but this was such a light bulb for me. My trigger point is to lean my shaft before I ever start a backswing as part of my setup. My wrist naturally falls into place. Thanks for sharing.
Love this wrist video. I don’t pay much attention to my wrist and I do deal with slicing and fading to the right. I will definitely practice and be aware now. Very excited to give this a try. Your videos are always precise and easy to follow. Thank you!!
What a difference this made in my swing. I could never figure out what went wrong when the wheels would fall off and I couldn't even finish a round. Keeping that bow in the left wrist made all the difference. Thank You very much.
Thanks Eric - this is gold 👍 How do I implement this though to change from high, weak fade drives to longer, lower draws? Is it rolling over the right wrist at impact or from club path by taking a closed stance? My shots are at least starting right now, but not curving back... Thks
I've been working with an impact ball to stop flipping the club on the backswing. Then I started taking it too far to the inside with the impact ball. Today I'm working on this exactly. Thx for the video Eric. You always have good content.
I've corrected my slice with this exact concept with my coach. Now everything is going left, which is great progress for sure. Working on getting middle ground cause my club face is too shut now. Great video as always and nicely explained!
When the lightbulb went on for me was when I developed a real understanding of what the club was supposed to be doing, as opposed to only thinking about what my body was supposed to be doing. Once I grasped how the club moved around me properly, it made me able to just do with my body what was necessary to accommodate the club and that one thing made everything make soooo much more sense. You realize that the wrist angles and everything are simply a necessity for the club to move right.
Another great lesson. Was never really positive as to when to bow it so I would do it right before my downswing. I just don't want that thought. But you clarified it that you can do it at any point. Thank you.. And when I have hit it to the right the next shot I focused on bowing the wrist and it absolutely corrected it. But thank you for the clarification.. 🙌🙌
Your wrist angle videos have Completely changed my game! Understanding wrist angles and swing path have taken my game to the next level. Almost all draws and some hooks, few fades but 0 slices!! Wrist angles not talked about enough so thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
Love this video. Your lessons are always explained very clearly. I always have trouble getting this feel during my takeaway or on the way down. But if I preset impact position before (bow left wrist, forward shaft lean) then start my swing, it works very well. My set-up looks weird but I can deffo compress my irons very well. It’s like I set it, and then don’t need to do much during the shot. If this makes sense ?
Hey Craig! Not as much NO.....now it depends on what sort of shot you want to hit......but for pitch shots you want MORE LOFT and MORE BOUNCE.......so you would close the face less.....so less of these wrist angles as they are designed to close the face and lower the loft for full swing where we want more compression and distance. Pitch shots want to be WEAK on purpose
@@CogornoGolf this makes a ton of sense, Eric, I appreciate your explanation. I live in Indiana, PA. Are you available for in person lessons or do you have any recommendations on a coach in my area?
Excellent as usual. I think you and Mike Malaska teach this properly 🏌🏻♂️. My issue is an overactive wrist that’s causing the left shots so I need to calm them down. Works both ways 👍
Eric, Mr.Trevino along with many current tour players implement a bowed shut face position and tend to play fades. Mr. Hogan had a cupped left wrist (open clubface) at the top of his backswing and hit fades. He also went into a bowed left wrist position at impact. What are your thoughts? Thank you as always for your expert advice!
Yep...different ways can work.....and when you add in different grip styles there are even more variables :) Of course all the ball flight cares about is the face-to-path at impact.... TYPICALLY players with weaker grips will be more flexed with lead wrist, stronger grips less so. th-cam.com/video/S776LyvM6Pc/w-d-xo.html
Hi Eric--is there a certain grip that works best with this? I used to use a strong grip but find it much easier to bow my wrists with a weaker one. Thanks!
When is the ideal time to start bowing the lead wrist? Seems like morikawa does it right at the top of the backswing. For me it seems easier to incorporate in the takeaway
I have to over exaggerate my left wrist bow. I imagine that I’m bowing the wrist like Dustin Johnson. It’s the only way I have been able to reduce my downswing flip. Thanks for the help
Eric, this would have been the perrrrfect video to use The Hanger as one of the drill training aids, or at minimum have your in video PSA ad for it! Opportunity possibly missed, my friend. Although, the Tee in glove drill is pretty decent as well 👍.
This has worked miracles. If it works so good why don’t we set the club this way at setup. Club face closed down right from the first move. After a full turn and hip to target the club is now squared at impact with shaft lean, lag and all the other good stuff we want?
Hey! To make that work from setup you would need to over exaggerate the downswing pieces through the ball----can have benefits to fix right but bring in other potential problems (hit too low and or left) but you can try!
A pull is not a hook - in some ways, you need to do more of the right wrist bent back to get the club coming more from the inside and traveling out towards the ball - compared to a likely steeper shaft coming down on top of the ball and going left to start. Pulls are almost always steep swings and people that have learned to flip their hands too much make a pull into a hook. This video is exactly for you - it will help you start the ball to the right by getting the clubface closed earlier and then get the shaft leaning forward. Work on a 7-yard draw with the ball starting right of target - if it's not starting right, you need more shaft lean and more bow in the left wrist and extension in the right wrist - do it until it hurts.
Need to see your swing Tim to say for sure why you are missing left.....could be like 10 different micro things that could lead to that. Try www.cogornogolf.com send in your swings so I can see
This is an Aha moment for me. Now I know why DJ and Morikawa do it. Ben Hogan wrote about it in his book but he never really explained the whys. Thank you for the great vid.

Good lesson. I’ll think to keep left knuckles down towards ground to keep the wrist flat and to shut the face

I would say "average" would have left wrist flat by about left arm parallel to top of backswing (depending on grip)
