Unbelievable, i had many lessons from many golf instructions and no one ever told me that. Great video. You are the best
That’s very nice of you thanks. Yes unfortunately there’s some average instruction out there. Thanks 🙏 for taking the time to share
Maybe there were other more important things to look at? I've played for 3 years this May, got coaching for 2 and we've just started working on this a month back. Maybe could have done it earlier not sure, but yeah :D
No golf instructor wants you to get good at golf too quickly. The harder golf becomes, the more money they make.
This is me. This is what I've become. I've hired a coach but it's really sad. Thank you for this video. I'm never going to stop golfing or trying to improve, it's in my DNA.
I’ll look at your swing if you need it. I teach hundreds of people online 👍
This rates in my top 5 golf instruction videos I have watched.. ever. A revelation if ever I saw one. Thanks Craig!
That’s great! - Thank you. Looking at the comments it’s definitely an area i’m going to have to revisit this year on a few occasions.
Unfortunately we are still a relatively small channel so i hope to educate more people about this.
Really appreciate you taking the time to post. 👍
Thats the best and the more efficient video i have ever seen. Thank you Craig for that.
Thanks .. i really enjoyed putting this one together i love that Fred Couples clip what he says .. And David Duval!
Thanks for posting! 👍👍👍👍
I’m 60 and have played on and off the majority of my life. That was one of the most informative and interesting videos I have seen. Thank you!! 👍🏻
You’re welcome thanks 🙏
😢😢😅
😢😮7😢
Thank you!! So many videos of people showing how the trail wrist should look during the backswing but they never explain what it does throughout the swing. My swing feels so much smoother now rather than awkwardly flipping the club. Thank you!
Thanks 🙏… and thanks for taking the time to post. I really appreciate it.
Brilliant. You are the best golf coach on the Internet
That’s great to hear i’m glad your enjoying the experience 👍👍👍
Thank you, this clears up a lot of questions for me but now need to acquire the skill/feel of timing the release to achieve the required low point.
Good much thanks for sharing 👍👍
This is blowing my mind right now. It makes so much sense!
It’s a game changer 👍👍.. it’s the truth!
Thanks for sharing 👍.. i really appreciate that when people take the time
Best explanation I've seen of the release. Excellent.
Really appreciate that! - Thanks for taking the time to post 👍👍👍👍
Great stuff. Especially the connection between the wrist and the rotation we all see. I hear a lot of Mike Malaska as well. The movement of the right wrist, the L-to-L drill.
Thanks glad you enjoyed it 👍
i haven’t seen a lot of Mike Malaskas videos .. in previous videos where i have mentioned this motion others have mentioned Mike.
He must know what he’s talking about 😊…
thanks again
I always struggle with fat shot. It's killing me. This video is a life saver. Thank you
It’s important to follow evidence based instruction. The internet is like a jungle these days so much stuff that’s unfortunately not helping.
Really appreciate you taking the time to post 👍👍
Great video.thia video is eye-opening. I've never heard of that release. No wonder I am struggling with my game. Thank you 😊
There are some new videos out there now telling take the hands out of it 😂😂… stiffen up the hands … 🙈
Thanks for sharing 👍👍.. have a look at worldclassgolf.com
It has 1400 + Videos 80+ series there’s a complete series on the hands called.. The Move of Millions!
good luck 👍
Am a member of worldclassgolf it really helped me improve my golf game .
BRILLIANT!!! This is what I was looking for. I saw myself on video and didn't understand why my release was so poor. Now I have a better understanding of it, so massive thanks for sharing. Subscribed as a thanks. I can't wait to try it out on the course. That will take a while though. Lots of snow here... (Norway).
No problem good luck.I actually have a podcast interview coming up slice slice baby .. they are from Norway 👍
Hello Everyone, Craig Hanson here. Leave your comments and questions i’ll get to them as soon as possible.
👍👍
I always called it pronating the wrist through impact, and once I learned to do it consistently, the power was off the chart, but seemingly effortless at the same time. Towering height, longer carry, better precision/dispersion. You don't need lessons to learn this, you need to practice with a purpose. It's a timing/rhythm thing and when you connect with a proper swing through the ball it will be a " eureka " moment. Watch tennis pros, baseball pros etc. Their wrist pronation through impact is what delivers the power, not swinging out of your socks at the ball.
Can't wait to work on that tomorrow. Great video
Thanks .. good luck 👍👍👍
Love the analysis. Research and angles comparisons
Thanks very much much
This video made a huge difference - distance, ball striking, everything!
That’s great
The mobile visual is money. Great video thanks for sharing
Thanks Gina i think i remember your name from the last video. Thanks for taking the time to post. It’s always nice to hear from people.
HOW can this not be taught by every "TH-cam Guru"??!?!? There is SO MUCH being thrown at you, specifically online, you get information overload. THIS is HANDS DOWN the most important video for any 15+ handicap player. I started implementing this and it completely changed how I hit a golf ball. It was like night and day. Time after time I would have no release and 80% of my balls hit far right (exactly what is said at the beginning of the video). This allows the golfer to properly follow the correct swing path, and it changes your game INSTANTLY. It feels different at the beginning, but that's because you have never done this...
Thanks very much for sharing
I’m definitely trying to reach as many people as i can about it. 😊
Thanks for taking the time to post 👍
Simple easy to understand. One of best teacher's in my opinion.
👍 Thanks
Great lesson. That’s one thing that changes many other. The intention to end up with this release, presets that backswing and the downswing. Having watched thousands of video, this is definitely top 3. Nice little secret, thanks for sharing!
Appreciate you taking the time to post 👍.. Thanks very much
Thank you! I just added 15 yards to my 7 iron, carrying 165 club speed increased by 7 mph and ball speed increased by 12mph on 25 practice shots!
Always struggled with concept of proper release...this is really easy to understand and can't wait to try.
Keep chipping away at it .. free up those hands 👍.. thanks for sharing
Wooooow, that’s an amazing explanation. I feel like You have a PHD in golf. Am a big fan of your work
Thanks soooo much! - We work with facts. We are helping people improve on average between 4-11 shots on our platform worldclassgolf.com
This just changed the game!!! Wow. Thanks so much for this.
Your very welcome 👍
Eye opening! Great Video. Should help a lot of people to release club properly. Well done.
Thanks 🙏 for taking the time to post 👍👍
absolutely incredible video
Thanks very much i really appreciate that 👍👍
Best explanation of this concept I’ve seen. I always thought ‘rolling’ the hands over took too much timing and never thought I could do it consistently. I’ll be taking this lesson to the range tomorrow. Many thanks!
Thanks for posting.. good luck .. like Fred Couples said in the video.. Release it past the ball 👍
Thanks for posting really appreciate that … Remember what Fred Couples said .. he tried to release it past the ball 👍
I have been playing golf in single figures for 20 plus years, had numerous lessons always struggling to release the club naturally always holding too much lag and early extending to get square. This is a massive lightbulb moment thanks for sharing this Craig. 😊
Your very welcome 👍
my high school golf coach was a very accomplished player and had insane talent..he was obsessed with the release in the golf swing and he said most people dont even know what the release is if you ask them and he was rite about that..his drill for us was fantastic and i still have not heard anyone explain it like he did...we were all pool players as well and in pool when learning a drill was visualizing a ghost ball in front of your actual ball..he taught us to use that in golf and release the club to strike the ghost ball which is an imaginary ball directly in front of the real ball..it worked for all of my team mates..i helped numerous friends over the years by having them visualize the ghost ball and it helped alot...Tigers timing was so good ive heard him say numerous times he has several release points in his release depending on what he wants the ball to do..your video is spot on and people need to work on the release and start to feel the awesome strike of a compressed ball through the release even in putting as well
Very interesting 👍.. thanks for sharing
I play a lot of 9 Ball - ghost ball is an aiming concept. Never thought to use that in golf … thank you for mentioning that.😎
This is fantastic, thank you mate
Your welcome
The prop iron with the huge club face was really helpful...also going to have to try that throw it behind you Duval thing.
😊👍.. good luck .. appreciate you taking the time to post
Great video! For all those hitting a weak slice to the right, focus on releasing the hands more through impact. You’ll be amazed at the effortless power and straightness
Thanks 🙏..Appreciate the post
Great video again thanks for sharing.i have a question. Do you think that this style of release can help me gain some distance of the tee?
Yeah definitely 👍.. The fastest speeds i’ve had with my driver on flightsscope have been timing this release.
100% more speed 👍
Fantastic video 👌. This is what Mac talks about - uncocking and recocking of the wrists.
Thanks 🙏 very much. Really appreciate you taking time to share 👍
Very important explanation.
Glad you think so! 👍👍
This is by far the most important video I have seen regarding release!
In your video you asked, why so many amateurs don't release it like the pros. Well, my 2 cents after playing now for nearly 5 years. Because it's like a lot of golf teaching pro's are making the release and how it's done like "the holy grail". Like the best kept secret for us with an handicap of 13 or more. Even more it's (so I think) we amateurs who are desperately looking for a way to release that damn club - are watching way too much videos where golf channels explain every week (some even every day) things like "this will fix your....", "the one and only drill....", "check this position....." and bla bla bla.
Too many words with too many meanings, especially depending the language you speak, as an example: turn, rotate, pivot....and then this "you have to rotate thru the ball".....
I swear I tried hard, I hit the ball but not as far as I really could because in every sport I made with a club in my hand (squash, tennis, etc.) I knew exactly how to use my body and my arms and my hands to correctly "release" the club. But only in golf nobody until I saw your video told me what you showed us here. Many many thanks for that, really appreciated!
Very interesting post 👍.. i think it’s important to follow evidence based instruction.
I have a question please. Do you think people believe automatically someone is a good coach if they have lots of followers?
@@CraigHansonGolf I think this could be possible due to the simple fact that there is a certain number of people following a certain pro/teacher/scratch golfer. So „desperate amateurs „ seek information where they suspect this one and only hint can be found. Obviously that doesn’t mean that everything this guy then says or promises glitters as gold.
I have a range set up in my backyard. As soon as I finished watching the video I grabbed my launch monitor and went outback. First ball I hit was with a 8 iron 10 yard increase in distance 160 yds. Just tried to recreate the right hand release throwing the club behind me. I knew I was missing something I just couldnt put my finger on it. I actually caddied the Valspar pro-am this past week and had Taylor Moore (last years Valspar winner)in our group. I just kept watching his swing hoping to see something and just couldnt figure it till I saw this.
great post 👍👍
Craig -- excellent video! Cant wait to put this into practice. Where does one get the oversized club as it seems to really accentuate and show clubface position?
Thanks very much. Unfortunately they don’t make them any more it’s called momentus …
Great video! This is my exact issue. Trying to square at impact but not releasing.
You can do it! 👍👍
Thanks for this Craig. Excellent instruction and definitely what I need to work on. Are you able to recommend any golf book that properly deals with this kind of release? Cheers, Cliff
No i don’t know of any books. We have very interesting information ob WorldClassGolf.com. there’s 1400 videos that are not in TH-cam
Thanks for sharing 👍
Very insightful
Thanks very much
OMG! OMG! OMG! Don’t even know where to start. I’m 51 years old and pretty much self taught. My best round is 74 and that was about 1 year ago. I’ve recently been in the mid 80’s and lost! If you know what I mean😂 I watched this video last night and couldn’t wait to throw my club “AT THE FENCE BEHIND ME” . I walked outside and hit my 58 degree in the front yard, I have like a 65-70 yd shot here. I have never, EVER, EVER, done what I did today. I opened the face a bit, and the feeling of throwing the club behind me right before impact and the EFFORTLESS height and distance was absolutely AMAZING. Going to hit some more. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Richard Z. Orlando, Florida
That’s great 👍.. good live and thanks for sharing
Must be nice. I haven't shot better than 99 in the last 15 years. Granted, that was only 6 total rds of golf in that time frame... But still.
This is great, I'm having problems with my release. my thumb gets in the way. its weird, must be doing it wrong. great tips
Thanks very much 👍
Excellent description Craig. I’ve actually been working on this. I find if I relax my wrist, arms and shoulders, this move is much easier. It’s almost automatic from the weight of the club with relaxed wrist for me. To straighten my lead arm, all I do is push the grip out with my lead hand, in my backswing. No tension involved…. I’m an “experienced” golfer, just past 70th last year. I have arthritis especially in my right hand and fingers. So I’m doing all of this with Medium JumboMax Tour grips, and a Bionic glove on my trail hand, as my fingers can’t close on a standard grip… If I can accomplish this, most golfers should be able to do this easier, by gripping the club in their fingers. Something I can’t do anymore….
Great post 👍.. yeah i’ve been helping seniors with this we some different types of drills.
It’s amazing to see the results when people finally understand the functionality. Seriously Ron people are lost more than ever with so much stuff in youtube.
TH-camrs are forced to release content to keep the income coming in. And because of that there’s unfortunately to much misinformation not helping the normal golfer.
Really appreciate you posting 👍👍👍👍

Visualize being a side armed pitcher in baseball. Holding your wrist back then snapping it sideways through the release! Another is hammering a nail into the wall from the side laterally.
Thanks for sharing 👍👍👍👍
@@CraigHansonGolf thank you for helping. The release has had me confused btwn coaches, YT vids, Tiger’s release drill & many others. I will say this move & thought can likely help cause the chicken wing, cutting across moves, and other issues for most avg handicappers if not extending hands & arms forward & through to the target. Instead they focus too much on the hand action shorting their extension wrapping around their bodies on the “follow through” which is not proper follow through in reality. Their clubheads then tend to cut across the hitting zone in a very short path, versus it extending through the hitting zone for a foot or more. Any vids and thoughts to help this?
as an begginer i finally understand this, it all break down to the grip, my lead hand is gripping too hard, it should be the trrail arm more dominant to move the club.it will form the Y formation in the release naturally.
great 👍
Great video👏. My PW Improved from 100-110y to 140y effortlessly by releasing the hands. Release in golf is more of a forehand in tennis. No need to twist like curve ball throw on bowling. (It's a way of playing golf but nobody on tour twist the hands anymore).
100% correct
Outstanding, subscribed. Helped me identify what I think was one problem of mine, forcefully rolling over the hands, sometimes resulting in a snap hook. Will be practicing those drills.
Craig, I'm 62 and trying to get back into golf. When at the range, I'm finding that although I'm lining the ball up somewhat on the heel, I'm seeing that I strike the ball out towards the toe. Ideas as to what may be causing me to "pull out/back" so much?
It can be a number of things. Steepness is the downswing…
And open club face in the downswing….
Lack of lateral movement..
I would be only guessing until i saw it on video ..
Obviously you don’t know.. why guess?
Have a look at this quick video unfortunately people don’t realise what i do.

Thanks for sharing. Appreciate it.
Thank you very much.!
Your very welcome 👍
I find that if i get my right elbow into my right pocket the have the logo on my glove RH facing straight away from me at club parallel... hands oposire my right leg the release just happens. Ive experienced with lots of drills and feeling this and slowly doing this get it all going.. importantly it also takes care of the movement of the left hip movement into the wall. Then the release just happens in the follow thru. Thanks for the video❤😊
Thanks for sharing and taking the time to post. Really appreciate it. 👍
Thanks Craig, I know understand my release is correct because it felt so weird. I have been rolling back and through like forever.
👍👍
Speechless...this is me to a T. Brilliant explanation.
Thanks
Excellent video! Does the right forearm touch the left forearm at the end of swing?
Not at the end of the swing it can touch half your three quarters of the way through the through swing 👍

Is it worth having the feeling of leading with the hands to promote shaft lean while also incorporating the follow through, or is that completely counterintuitive?
I believe you have to experiment around, and of course practice I think people are watching TH-cam videos, but they don’t also realise that you have to practice this movement over period of time. Don’t just try it for 30 minutes it’s something that you continuously work on.
Your on feels and experience will help improve
Craig is correct, this is the way to release. I think the handle dragging through has ruined ppl from releasing properly. Once you learn this release now you have to know yardage for all your clubs. Then you can score.
Thanks so much for taking the time to post 👍
Great video bro
Thanks 🙏.. appreciate the post mate
Hi Craig, This is a fantastic presentation. I coach students in college and amateur golfers who cannot get their hands leading at impact because they either over rotate the hips causing their elbow and hands to get trapped behind them, and/or they throw out the lag half way down in the swing delofting and flipping the club! Your lesson is very practical and helpful. It makes it clear the movement through impact, and where the hands need to be. I am hoping the drills can help pattern that sequence more effectively.
It feels so unnatural to keep your right hand in extension to or through impact, and to do it at a fast swing is really difficult for most amateurs. my question is at what point do you throw out the extension is it at impact or immediately after?
Fred Couples, “Past the ball” got it..
It’s around impact. For people that a new to it it’s like a slight forearm jolt.
Experiment with your students. It’s a collaborative effort. Lessons are like team work.
Tell them that as well. I’ll be covering more on this. There’s a series on WorldClassGolf.com .. The Move of Millions.
There are some awesome drills in that series. Thanks for posting and taking the time i really appreciate that. 👍👍👍
@@CraigHansonGolf I appreciate your clear guidance, Wow, you are a great teacher. I hope to sign up online because I know it’ll help my game too. I am 65 years old and I feel like I’m playing my best GOLF but know I can even do better
Best lessons out there
Thanks so much 👍👍
This is a great video. Loved it. Thanks
You’re welcome 👍👍👍👍👍.. good luck with your game!
Mate, I've always been fighting the flip. This vid clearly explains the reality of what's happening. Really appreciate it.
Keep working on it .. over weeks and months it’s going to be worth it it will take your through the levels
I don't know what this fellows name is but I love this video, He looks super coordinated and controlled not wooden and jumpy like most of us.
OK now I see Craig Hanson is the man. Very impressive in various ways here! Subscription is no brainer.
Thanks Carl ..
@@CraigHansonGolf Thank you very much for the very easy to visualize and comprehend professional swing positions and actions. You are doing it very precisely in real time and repeating as though we are watching a tour player that is being recorded with alternate forward play then rewind and forward sequences at critical points
11:30 mark is an amazing drill for a feel. Thanks for this
Glad you enjoyed thanks for taking the time to share 👍
the Duvall video was a light bulb moment....thanx a ton
Glad it helped … thanks for taking the time to post 👍👍👍👍
This is one of the best vids I've seen in a long time. Not sure if each of your stories about cause and effect in the swing are correct. However, those images of the ""PGA Release," the explanation of the optics of it from different angels, and that video of David Duval, are worth $1000000. I'd recommend a shortened version - a TH-cam short - where you just present the images, the optics from face-on and down-the-line, and maybe the Duval video.
thanks
I’ve been having lessons, everything was getting so much better, but still not getting the distance I wanted. So I’ve been working on building more club head speed by having shaft lean and more of my legs/hips moving up on impact and getting more energy from legs into the swing. But I still suffered a lot with the chicken wings arm separations as shown in start of video and not getting a release. I was trying to hold my arms together on release which was never working. Now I know what the release looks like and feels like. Just been out in the garden at 2am trying this and I think this is the missing piece of the jigsaw. I can’t wait till tomorrow to get this on the course. I will be in the garden first thing recording practice swings. It’s definitely a eureka moment. Single figure handicapper here I come lol😂
😊👊… that’s your job for 2024 work on release ..
Have a look at the Move of Millions series on WorldClassGolf.com
I’m having trouble finding the words to describe this. I’ve been trying for years to turn my forearms over through impact. When it works, it’s wonderful. But the timing is just too impossible to ever find consistency. I had no idea that what I was actually looking at until now. And no instructor has ever pointed it out in this way.
They talk about cupping and bowing wrists but never explain why or what you’re actually supposed to achieve with these wrist positions. This is among the very small number of transformative videos.
One note: this won’t work for everyone. Other elements of your swing have to be ready for this change. Rotation in particular. If you try this method without proper rotation, it will be super flippy and accentuate any chicken wings you already have. If it’s not working for you, don’t discard it - just bookmark it for when your swing is ready to accept it.
Great great work!!!
Thank you so much! - Really appreciate that you took the time to post 👊
Should you feel the club head closing just on impact ie slight forearm rotation
Depends on the individual i would say it also depends what level your currently at if your a slicer also whats happening in your through swing.
Written golf tips are dangerous
6:35 - finally, an iron I could hit the ball with.
😂😂😂😂👍
Quality as always. Many thanks.
Very welcome
Thanks Dude , I'm ready to turn pro now 😁
Good luck mate 👍👍😊
How is the correct release affected by tight shoulders? I feel like if the shoulders are limited in external rotation the proper release is difficult to achieve.
I have bad shoulders as well. It won’t affect your release. I have very bad external rotation in mine. It’s important for us to create good angles in the wrists 👍
Hello Craig thanks for this illuminating presentation. Over the years we have all seen stop action recording of the amazing "wrist release" seen in tour players. They all have tremendous speed through the impact zone and this move appears natural. Is it worth the effort for slow swingers to try the wrist release? I find myself trying to simulate it but am jhitting weak low duck hooks and topping the ball.
It’s a good idea to improve your hand motion and understand the release.
And the different types of release
Obviously of uour topping of hitting low left shots your doing something completely wrong…..
@@CraigHansonGolf OK Craig thanks. You clearly demonstrated the hand motions and release. I think my problem is making an effort to manipulate the wrists before impact. I am going to continue to take your advice here, because when I get on track results will speak for themselves. Handicap players like me really know what pure shots feel like.
@@CraigHansonGolf Hey Craig. My wife has been incapacitated for going on three years and I have been house bound looking after her. I have recently hired a caregiver and have been able to go out for 9 holes a week. The first 2 rounds were beyond pathetic which I expected. After 3 weeks of sorting with good practice sessions, golf pro videos like yours and 4 more rounds, I am finally hitting some acceptable shots; yea! At first I was lost on your great "release" lesson but recently have been able to produce it! For slow swinger like me, I am instantly able to identify a good release. There is good compression, ball speed, superior trajectory and distance. Thanks a million Craig!
cont: I put this brilliant video of yours in my permanent bookmarked data list
@@carlcampbell6827 great stuff enjoy 👍
Never heard it explained like that before! Proof is in the photos of the pros!
Golfers need to follow evidence based instruction
I feel pain in my right wrist when I try and get right wrist in flexion. I can get it flat but not in extension. The grip seems to want to grab my thumb and makes it painful to get into that flexion position past 90* on the follow through. I can do it easily with no club and the drills you mention feel good - I just can’t seem to translate it when a club is in my hands. Classically Neutral grip “in the fingers etc”. For context play to a 3 and used to be +1.5, but never had the hand position you’re describing in follow through
That’s unusual you feel pain with 30 degrees of right wrist flexion??? It’s very little. Do you suffer from arthritis?
In general...does the amateur player need to setup closer or further away from the ball in order to have the space and angle needed to swing more towards the ball so the trail wrist naturally turns over?
no they don’t
@@CraigHansonGolf Thanks Craig... very thoughtful reply
Whenever I try to sequence my downswing I always end up with an open clubface at impact is this due to not working the wrists like you have explained ..
Backswing and takeaway are great I don’t throw my angles from the top I can keep them at last parallel it’s from there through impact I’m totally confused about in constantly trying different release and no release but always seem to have an open clubface
95% of golfers do … it’s unfortunately how golfers swing. Always have and always will. What i teach people is to close the face at the top the amount of degrees they naturally open it in the downswing… So they open it to square…
It’s what I teach people with online lessons, and it’s what I teach people with the deep to shallow swing style on World Class golf.com .. i know that sounds like i’m selling it but im helping thousands play their best golf they have ever played.
Thanks for the reply , I think the Fred couples drill might have had an ah ha moment I feel a difference in the swing and concept and definitely in the other videos you posted about how the wrists work very informative and an eye opener , yeah it’s definitely one thing that’s not taught enough . I like your content and think I might get by on the TH-cam videos for now maybe if I don’t get it or go down a rabbit hole I might look into some swing analysis with you , Cheers
Nailed it. The right wrist bow after impact was a huge epiphany when I learned about it a while back. Not that I’m a good player, but most bad players try to hold the face. I think they believe it’s necessary for shaft lean.
Exactly 👍
I have been playing 50+ years and I've never had it explained in this way, throwing the club behind me sure seems simpler. I can't wait to try this........
Its unfortunately not easy to find good information a lot of the guys with huge amount of followers are not the ones releasing the best information.
Be careful what you follow and don’t always follow what everyone is following 😊
Should the path of the club past impact feel like it’s going well left? Doing 1/2 swings indoors sure feel that way. Is that normal?
Not necessarily.. like Fred Couples said in the video release it down the line. Some people have different feelings
Ok. Thanks for the quick response.
Do you think you might have a different feel when you’re outside hitting?
sometimes I do that inside I pick up a club and I think this is the feel, but when I get a golf ball in front of me and hit it’s it’s different feel or no longer possible to use the feel i had inside with a practice swing.
I often feel the same. I’ve already tried swinging indoors (without ball) to see if I could go more down the line than left. I can, but unsure if I’m overly manipulating the path. I’ll need to see ball flight to know if I’m on the right track.
Your video gives much food for thought. I’ve always struggled with fat shots and casting. Now, I’m starting to think it’s the lack of release - as you accurately put it.
perfect im gonna employ what david duval said at the range today!
good luck 👍👍.. keep working on it don’t just try it once start the process of experimenting with it 👍👍
I also tried a weird experiment, I'd take some practice swings with super loose left hand and when the club would hit the ground the face of club would fold quickly over natural closed face. I think my fade to slice ball flight is becase my left hand holds off and creates an open face. I've seen video where couples and v jay almost let the club go with their right hands?
Yes your right 👍
Brilliant
Thank you very much 👍
This is a gamechanger
Thanks for sharing 👍
My own feeling is that the club releases virtually by itself if I keep my hands low enough before impact. My lead side goes up and pulls the club through.
Thanks for posting 👍👍
Excellent stuff.
Thanks 🙏

can you get me a full set of those oversized irons?? 🤣 Great video. Thank you!
😊👌👍.. ha ha ha ..
Would you say that it is almost like you are whipping the club at the ball at the moment it strikes when you turn your hands over? Like a sideways whip motion kind of? like think how you crack a whip how your hand moves, now if you kind of turn it at the same time its almost the same motion for a swing. Is there any type of like extra force you use I guess I am asking? That whip motion could really generate a lot of extra speed right at contact but probably diminish accuracy. I am not saying exactly like a whip, just wondering if there is any force, or if you allow the natural swing to turn your hands over for the release? If any of this makes sense... haha
It’s like a whipping motion yes 👍
Incredible content! Question: I "hear" you, and Freddy for that matter, say "after contact" then release. Is there any data or video that would show releasing, or starting said release just prior to ball contact? This would increase clubhead speed substantially, I would think, if controlled, obviously. To my thinking if you held that right wrist (cupped) until after contact, then released it, the release would have no effect on ball strike, theoretically (consistency perhaps?).. I know it's nuanced and timing sensitive but what are your thoughts? An honest ask, I'm a newby..
Edit: I just watched slow motion Tommy Fleetwood iron swing and his right wrist is no longer cupped at contact, meaning he is releasing "prior" to ball contact. Which makes sense to me how, in at least one way, he and other great players get more clubhead speed. Early release, bad, release "after" contact, also bad. Am I on point?
It’s difficult to answer. Tommy Fleetwood has a wide downswing so it slow motion it probably looks like it’s releasing early. You need 12 degrees of shaft lean with an iron shot. To get a gauge. If you release it early, you won’t have that Making it easier to hit fat and thin shots and lack of compression.
You have to time the release.

@@CraigHansonGolf Thanks for the reply! I'll take a look at your website..
Is that 12 degree shaft lean on every club? Or should it be more with say a pitching wedge?
wedges have often more. There’s shaft lean comparisons on WorldClassGolf.com
Surely it’s more helpful to aim for a movement pattern pre impact than post? As Cowan says the only thing all pros have in common is delivery position (relative to the shot they are try to play). Impact and post impact is way too late.
I’ve spent a lot of time with Peter Cowan.
There is absolutely no way that any position in the downswing will help 99% of Amateurs release the club automatically or effectively.
It’s the quality of the release determines the success of the downswing.
Hi Craig, I have a weird problem. I already worked on my release since I saw your last Video about it. My problem ist that I can do an almost perfect swing and release without a ball many times in a row, but as soon as I put a ball in front of me I loose my shaft lean and my release gets worse. It’s almost like my body tenses up uncontrollably and subconsciously, even if I try very hard to feel the same… Any suggestions?
Thanks for your work Craig!
Something is happening in the swing somewhere that’s causing you to flip unconsciously.
I can’t say without seeing it. I do swing Analysis with a voice over they go for 20-30 minutes in a compressed email side by side examples and drills and you receive tailored videos… send my your swing.

I will fix it.
This is what Marcus Edberg on TH-cam has been saying for years, he calls it the circle of speed and the scoop. And Marcus hits it a long way!
