I have an idea that may work . Final fantasy went from a game where you create your character and playstyle to a gane where you play as a predertrmined character and characters . Wich the ladder is definately better for story progression .. But why cant you have both ? Have the player create their character who will be leading the party . Player picks where the character is from (Race basically ) And that woukd include some type of bonus . Then the player selects stats ti better fit their play styke kind of like elder scrolls . You coukd have your main stats like intelligence, strength dexterity amd ect and then your combat skills like healing magic ,destruction magic, defense, summoning magic and ect Then you could have weapon skills ( what weapon do you prefer to use ) wich can have bonuses and drawbacks Armor skills ( How heavy do you want your armor ) Again bonuses and drawbacks apply . And so on . Then you meet the characters who will be traveling with you in your party . One if the characters can be like a prince noctis wich you are assigned to protect.. So the story building remains intact with the customization of your own character .Also you could have a personality gererator . Where you can make the character more like your own personality or just have fun with it .And last but not least character model customization and voice printing to give your character your own voice . How cool woukd that be ? Anyway just some of my ideas .
I could definitely see gaming going that way in the future. The ability to, not just customize the appearance and stats of a character, but to also give them an attitude and voice is absolutely some next gen stuff. The question is, will Square Enix do it or will Bethesda beat them to it?
