The #1 Mistake Travellers to India Make

  • I continuously see travellers to India making this mistake, and it's landing some of them in big trouble, especially female tourists. I'll tell you how not to make this mistake in India while walking through the most dangerous area of India for foreigners.
Watch all my scammer and travel safety videos • India Scammers & Trave... .
Where you stay in India and which hotel you choose is incredibly important. Paharganj in New Delhi is ground zero for touts, scammers, drugs, the red light area, and human trafficking in India.
Yet many visitors to India continue to stay there, probably because most of the hotels in Delhi are in this location. The same goes for Colaba in Mumbai. I'll show you where to stay you can stay safe while in India and avoid all the bad things that are attracted to these touristy areas.

Ross Piyan watch his 3rd latest video , where he says he gets trolled through foreign comments on his videos . If he really was minimising the bad side, he wouldnt get comments on videos calling indians as scammers , street shitters , rapists , sexists or whatever they like saying. I disagree with that part.

It's the same mistake that travellers to _any_ country make. They don't do their share of research before travelling to another country. Always search for opinions on the best places to travel and stay and the do's and dont's in another country. You need to be well prepared.

Your advice is so spot on. We did the golden triangle last summer and made mistakes in our travel. Although we kind of did the opposite to your video - we stayed mostly 5 star and felt sooo cut off from real India and soo secluded. We felt safe and proveledged, yes, but we really felt like we lacked the cultural experiences and didn't have much opportunity to wander out and immerse ourselves without our hired tour guides. Next time we need to find the middle ground.

If you’re coming all the way to India and want to play it cheap then you are bound to face countless scams and trouble for you are choosing to stay in a cheap place; it’s basically the same for any other country...pay less, get crappy hotels, food, etc.

I've stayed in Paharganj four times for maybe three weeks altogether and I loved it. It is really fascinating and so alive with all sorts of people from all over the world. I never saw anyone shooting up and maybe I'm just oblivious but I didn't see any prostitution. I always stay in the same hotel which was highly recommended by the standard guide book. The owners there were very helpful and honest. A couple of weeks in Paharganj will be an education in how to deal with touts and scammers. You can't avoid them in India so learning how to interact with them is important. You could stay in expensive hotels elsewhere and not learn much except how to spend money.

Maybe you didnt explore enough then, GB road is the literal hub of prostitution in Delhi.

Well, I did stay in Paharganj once, partly out of curiosity and partly to be near the Railway Station (that's another great place for scammers). I had no trouble in Paharganj. Maybe being male and older helped? Also, not stopping to look at shops? Connaught Place is also a great place to meet scammers, though more up-market ones.

It was the main place to stay because the railway was right next to it, nowadays it's so easy to fly around India, I now often stay out near the airport, but I have stayed dozens of times in Pahar Ganj. I've stayed in other parts of Delhi too, but this is just so handy getting the train onwards to wherever in India.

if i ever get to come to India, the one place I WANT to stay at is in Mayapur on the ISKCON premises. Id love to see Karl do a video about ISKCON over in Mayapur. it would be amazing i bet. but, then again, i have a unique history with ISKCON, so for me, it would be awesome but not sure if others would enjoy the video or not

I decided for my first time in India was not to take any chances looking for a hotel upon arrival especially if they are near any slum areas and so I pre-booked into "The Emerald Hotel" in Mumbai for my stay in Feb next year. (Hopefully it's a nice Hotel)

Main reason is lots of tourists travel on budget; which means they go for cheap accommodation. And as you said, you get what you pay.
So imagine going to India, or a country that is comparable to India, and decide to stay in a cheap accommodation. Obviously, most likely, you will end up being harassed or get scammed.
Accommodation is a place where you should feel safe and comfortable. If one thinks that they only stay in a hotel to sleep ,thus, do not want to pay extra for a better accommodation, is madness.
