As an Indian I thank you for speaking the truth regarding the safety of women in India. No need to sugar coat the situation. India is not a safe country for solo female travellers. I won't recommend that either to any female foreigner reading this comment.
Totally agree. I lived there as foreigner on 3 different occasions and sometimes sexual assault, in different forms, could be daily. I was was always dressed conservatively. I still love India but I would not let my Daughter go there like I did.
Definitely not India is very safe see the rape statics Mostly Europe countries top India after 90th number In korea harrasment it's common they consider it's an big issue It's become big issue India people beat in public and judiciary is system is slow they talk they can report
No, Claire you don't need to be polite about it. As an Indian male, I'm sorry to say that uncomfortable situations for women in India are a BIG problem. Thank you for making an honest video about it while being so respectful! Kudos!
It makes no sense. I like in the USA and I used to work for Bollywood parties in Los Angeles, the audience was Indian people or Indian descent people and women always complain about being harassed by the guys, absolutely awful
@@RhettandClairehello, I am from India...I actually feel unsafe each and everyone I go outside that's the big problem here... that's why our parents don't allow to go outside...can you imagine?.....how bad it is
@@ezrapranata7584not fully correct in India there is a twisted idea that r@pe is partially or fully women’s fault because they were out pass 8pm or had clothes that didnt cover them fully, they act like women should be blamed because men can control their lust its crazy disgusting unlike the western world
The answer is no. I took a two-week trip to India with my wife, but we ended up returning to Thailand after just four days, before I lost control of my anger 😡 . I don't want to go into much detail, but in one word, it was (CREEPY)! One of the Country that women should stay away.
Yes, a woman whose boyfriend had to leave her alone in India was constantly harrassed by all the men at her hotel. They turned off the AC and said that they had to enter her room to fix it, she was savvy enough to keep them out. But they didn't let up! There were creepy heavy breathing phone calls and men continually outside her door, asking her to open up. Even when they didn't say anything, she could see their shadows just outside her door, they were lying in wait for her. She was imprisoned in her room, with no AC, it was swelteringly hot and she was terrified of being raped by one or all of them! She managed to get out, early in the morning and get to the airport to go home. But she was imprisoned and terrified in her hotel room for at least two days! It's bang out of order for men to behave this way.
Exactly right! I might add they were also vlogging so the presence of a camera filming can be a good deterrent from harassment & aggressive behaviour. Both are good & safe precautionary measures tourists should do.
My husband and I went to New Delhi December 2022, and every experience you had was spot on with our experiences. The train station in Agra was one of the worst experiences. I could tell the locals were getting upset with how much we were getting harassed by tiny children. My husband is a red head and I am blonde and we were pulled into photos constantly. At the Taj Mahal, an Indian woman grabbed my arm and pulled me off of a tall cement curb and I fell to the ground. She did not apologize and pulled me off the ground and pulled me in for her selfie photo. I was really disturbed by this. I documented my trip on my channel too!
Thats disturbing..I may sound like im trying to advertise but I wish people travelled more to the regions in India like where I belong to (darjeeling kalimpong and sikkim) the people here are culturally different comparatively very liberal and understand whats inappropriate It's very sad for us to be clumped together with those unsafe regions when foreigners talk about India..
i am indian, I tell you which states are safe for foreigners North India : himachal pradesh, ladakh, jammu and kashmir West India : goa, maharashtra, gujarat South India : kerala, karnataka, tamil nadu, andhra pradesh, telangana North-East India : sikkim, darjeeling, meghalaya, arunachal pradesh, assam, all north-east state are beautiful. my personal favorite states : Himachal Pradesh, Ladakh, Jammu & Kashmir, sikkim, goa, kerala, all north-east states, Must Visit don't go bihar, jharkhnad, uttar pradesh
Kindly tell me which country in the world is safe for women especially in certain areas or certain times of the night. Is Bronx or Soho Road safe for solo travel ???????
I am an Indian currently living in Europe and I totally agree with whatever you've said. I come from a relatively modern family and was living a decent life back in India but only after coming to the West did I realize how unsafe India is for women and especially if you're solo travelling. I can travel solo without a single worry here in Europe, wear whatever I want, be out at whatever hour, and I can't even imagine doing any of it anywhere in India. But nevertheless, we're slowly improving and hopefully one day, I'll be able to proudly say that India is completely safe for women!
Tbh As a German I don't think women and safety is only related to india or developing countries only, in europe also women safety is a matter of concern. Hopefully in the near future we would see a improvement everywhere regarding safety of women.
That's a big statement "how unsafe India is for women". I remember when Amir Khan went to turkey and said he feels unsafe in India, a big personality said this infront of first lady of turkey. Yes you cayn wear anything you want, even your mom won't let you wear wherever you go. In Europe people some people walk naked, Australia they run/cycle naked, kids can go to brothel legally, minimum age is 14.. India has twice population of Europe still has less rape case and child abuse than some tiny single country of europe. But yes you can go wherever you want at any time for sure, but even your own family won't let you go to stay with your girl friends at night. The thing is in India people don't let women work or pay Cause many thanks it is men's duty to provide or his self respect. This things are changing. People say India is bad because India is poor people won't say a thing about USA gun violence, school shooting, racism against blacks, drugs abuse and their World class adult industry cause they hide it with their wealth. :)
@@findabh Yes,you are right, I just researched and came to know india is among the country with lowest r@pe rate(1.8) , germany(9.3) ,USA (27.3) ,south africa(72.1). Ground reality is not always the same as our media portrays. Hopefully, in the future we would see improved situation for women in every country in the world and will be able to say our world is safe for women.
visit balkans you'll see how "safe" europe is ?!!!!i an indo caribbean guy with dreads and when i visit eastern europe, such as bealrus ,poland and ukraine people were staring at me and many wanted to click pictures with me.
As an Indian man i can definitely say that India is not safe for women so to any solo female traveller i would recommend to have good weapons, self defense training and if possible a good large dog to have while in India.
Not all area. South India, himalaya oriented states, north east, punjub is good. Mumbai is improving. My first question is why these foreigners become agree to give a selfy????? Indian girl or woman unknown people ko selfy deta hai?? Common sense.
Your opinion is adulterated with selective media bias Yes India is unsafe but then all countries are unsafe Look at the statistics of SA of India through ncrb and the hindu’s report of 2013 Staring in India is definitely way higher than other country it is because of fascination of Foreign people especially western Even countries of East Asia have this problem.
As an Indian girl travelling and living in India I can tell you India is not SAFE.. I am just silent depressed and waiting to leave this country at the right time 🙏
Claire, thanks a lot for takling this topic. Despite of the many hater comments below, the content was very helpful for me as a solo female traveller planning to visit India! I cannot thank you enough!! ❤🙏🙏🙏
Hi Rhett and Claire, I watched so many of your travel vlogs before traveling to India recently and I just want to thank you so much for helping me be prepared for the experience and knowing what to expect. I really had such a great time
@@michelevandermerwe1378 no, luckily I was able to go with a friend. We spent part of the trip attending a friend's wedding and then did a guided tour for the other part
India is a country of 1.5 Billion+ people. Please don't generalise whole country and all the 1.5 Billion+ people of Indian origin by the bad actions and acts of some bad people. Bad apples are everywhere and in every society including in the so-called civilized Western countries.
Kudos to you guys spreading the truth, I think your review of the whole situation is practical enough. Coming from someone who migrated from India to United States, I really appreciate the amount of money that one can make here but safety wise it's horrible, I'm really terrified of the horrific gun violence here, really. Every now and then I keep hearing about a shootout nearby or some burglary even in the popular areas of New York and New Jersey and now I suddenly feel how safe it really was back home in comparison. The point is every place is unsafe unless you know how to avoid trouble and protect yourself. I don't carry my laptop to college sometimes as a precaution to avoid losing it in case I get mugged by someone, cause these cases are so common here. I can only imagine what a mess this place would be if it had a population of 1.4 billion with millions of them carry guns around.
Guns plays an important role in population control. 😆Also an armed society is a polite society. BTW I lived in USA for 5 Years but in more civilized cities like Charlotte, Dearborn, Overland Park etc. Also, there are more prisons than schools.
Just a tip, if you come again in India. Just try to avoid these boy groups that hang around pretty much every where making Instagram reels, TH-cam videos and what not. More often than not these kids (because most of them are even below 18) will accidentally brush up with you if you get too much friendly. Don't let them take your photos, trust me (for past 5 or 6 years they are most common around Delhi) on this. I always tell this to my friends who are not from Delhi.
Good one, as an indian i can agree you on your views, i have few europen friends and my wife is european too, they said in banaglore and hyderabad the staring is a much less or they always said felt safe travelling in in south more than north , hopefully you will be back to india and compare diffrent parts of india and let the world know if there is any truth is the statment. great content:)
As an Indian living in India, I totally agree with the points you have made. Thankfully violent crimes, specially against tourists are very rare. Still, its better for solo women travelers to be in a group or maybe hire a local guide. By the way, where is this beach that you are filming this video at ? it's gorgeous !!

Awesome video guys! Love that fact that the video was fair and real, rather than just one side about a topic! Awesome tips we'll be using when we go! 😁👌🏻
Appreciate your feedback, it will help others travellers👍 India is a big country which contains 1 billion people!!! So you will find all types & variety😅 moreover Indians are still live with strong attachments with tradition, culture & religion, so especially dress and how we carry ourselves is very important because we will be judged base on how we present ourselves, Even Though it shouldn't be like that anymore in this new developed world😅 travel safe👍
For folks who are planning a trip to India after watching this video, please do visit. And travel outside the touristy circuit of golden triangle (that Rhett and Claire seemingly did). India or Bharat is a very diverse country and it gets better the moment you step outside the touristy places. I have met so many female solo travellers (and bikers) who have shared their best experiences outside the big cities of India. Please remember, unless you travel extreme luxury be ready for being outside your comfort zone. Thank you Claire for your insightful video. I wouldn't dare travelling in JoBerg as a solo male traveller...
This was a well thought out video. Wise Advice. One thing we might add is don't look like a tourist. Blend in with the locals. Don't bring attention upon yourself. Be nice and be firm. If you want to travel solo . The use of a hired local guide will help you navigate the harrassment . It also helps the local economy. India is a great country to visit, but like any country in the world don't ever let your guard down. Enjoy and Be Safe. Love you Guys🥰🥰🥰 Harriet, Jim and Yuki. Richmond, Va.
I work with an Indian physician who grew up in Delhi. He said women should never travel alone to India. My adult son is accompanying me. I downloaded your resource pack! Thank you! 🇺🇸❤
Being an Indian female here, you are correct about wearing shorts in public places. I mean (as a local in Delhi) even I wear a short dress when I'm with my brother or taking my car. Can't travel wearing shorts in metro, even in women compartment. Even ladies stare at you like they'll burn you.
I actually live in India and I too have similar experiences despite living h in to over one year. I enjoyed watching your video and I would say you are not an average looking but a good looking female so this is adding to people wanting to approach you even more. Thanks for sharing
Four trips to India so far. I absolutely love this country! But, I do have to say that it was highly uncomfortable on many occasions. Having lived in Asia before,I am familiar with many situations. Staring didn't bother me, as I found myself staring as well. People, designs on clothes etc. would fascinate me so much, that I just forget. So, I understood people doing that. Photo asking, also, I have experienced before, but if it was a group of men, acting funny or disrespectfully, which has happened, I would remove myself from those situations. Couple of times it got highly uncomfortable and stressful, even though I was taking extra precotions all the time, was always back to hotel by sunset, was wearing kurtas and salwar kamiz all the time. I spoke in Hindi whenever and however limited I could, even my gestures and way of speaking was commented on as being quite indian. And was tipping. Just to ensure extra safety. Still, there were situations that were highly uncomfortable. Including attempts of innappropriate touching. Again, I am somewhat experienced traveller, and have lived in Asia before, so was able to recognize these situations and remove myself on time, but it did get tiring. No matter how much I love India, and I really do. And I would agree, solo female travelling is not something I would recommend, at least not for everyone. I have made that risk, simply because I could not sit and wait anymore to finally see India. Yes, people, culture, food, history, architecture, art are amazing, fascinating and left me in awe every time I went there. But, the safety, well, I cannot ignore that aspect. And cheating. For me it was heart-breaking after I have calculated for what sum I have been cheated on all together. And, I am not from a first-world country. Meaning, my next trip will have to wait because of that. And, as a conscious traveller, I have always said, it is my choice to spend my money in India as a tourist, rather than, whatever, France or Italy (nothing against these lovely destinations).Just that my choice has been India. Anyway, I still love India and am deeply fascinated by its many aspects.
Asking this question India is safe? Is like "is Europe safe"? This is a big country almost a Continent so safety in few cities is not guaranteed especially in some north part states where you'll get so many staring! But north east, South states are generally safe.
I’ve been in the South. Started in Goa … loved South Goa. Stunning beaches, very safe and vibey Then went to Bangalore… also safe. But super busy. Not much to see Alleppy Back Waters is amazing Fort Kochi lovely … super safe as they have a huge military base there Verkala also so safe. Lots of young girls and guys walking around alone in the evenings. And older women too. Very hippie vibe. Great food. Very safe Now I’m in Munnar, which is breathtaking!! Definitely have an international drivers licence for scooters. You’re so lucky to have a man to drive you around. I’m definitely bring my husband the next time! I’ve been solo in South India for a month and not one issue. Lovely helpful and humble people.
You can safely travel to North India too if you are with someone. Just dress modestly and be a little cautious in overcrowded areas then you'll be completely fine. Hope you'll have a great journey 👍
sorry guys for u r discomfort , u know india is such a huge country with 1.4 billion people more than entire population of africa , so sometimes some stupids people are their but most of indians thinks foreigners are some celebrity , they dont want to harm u guys just they want to tell at their home that they met a foreigner today , thats all
Me and my friend are tall and fair Indian males and we get asked for selfies sometimes. With everyone having a smartphone now it has become a norm for people to think that it would be cool to show off a selfie with a foreigner to their friends. Acute selfishness because they do not consider the discomfort caused. Indian youtubers should use their soft power to preach against this but alas! they are too busy counting their views. Regarding the female solo travelling situation I have a different opinion - my ex was a big solo traveller and she has travelled across India. Yes she gets lots of attention and yes guys approach her but she has never faced a situation where she felt threatened. I also see lots of female Indian solo travellers in India nowadays. The equation changes once you are a female foreigner. You may want to limit solo travelling to the northern Himalayan States, Rajasthan, North east India and Southern India. In central India if you must travel then book a Taxi guy recommended by a trustable source and limit the travel to popular destinations only.
Claire, I am a Canadian of Indian origin. It depends on which part of India you are traveling in. India is a huge country, almost a continent with different states, languages, culture, and ways of life among its people. So that experience can differ from person to person; especially if you happen to be white. The stares, though not pleasant , are purely out of curiosity. I can tell you as a brown person that I don't feel comfortable touring a white majority city or nation due to the unwelcome stares I have gotten from people. I went to Iceland once, and it was one of the WORST experiences of my life. Racists everywhere !! The woman running a bar where I went for a drink even asked me if I was just visiting or if I was there to take away their jobs. I don't even have to start about USA, UK, Australia, South Africa, where non whites are still viewed and treated badly. I would take a stare based on curiosity any day over stare based on racial mistrust and hatred.
Who are you informing this , this white get scammed and harrassed every time but they still will land on Delhi international airport, and they will explore around without a Guide, with Zero knowledge of language and culture, as if the illiterate people that harrass them with even know, that there actions are making them fell unsafe and traumatized. As if most people speaking broken down English = to Every one understanding there foreign English and accent. I know why they get harrassed in big cities, even i Get ,even we Indian get scammed and get into a word fights in big cities.
@darth why don't you just get in the New York metro at mid night passed☠. I can conform that you will feel so safe that you will feel uncomfortable💀. Just visit London at night I can promise you your expensive watches will remain safe with you💀. Definitely robbery will not kill you for your watch. 😅☠
I often wonder sometimes if folks just take things the wrong way. I'm very, very white with red hair and hazel eyes. Whenever I travel to a place where there isn't a lot of white folks I get stared at and women touch my hair daily. I don't get insulted by it, I recognize it for what it is, just curiosity.
Really insightful. I'm from Shimla, Himachal. I have noticed that people in state, such as, Delhi, Rajasthan, Mumabi, U.P are pushy and don't have basic etiquette on how to behave in a compony of other. And these are the states I have 1st seen people begging and population so much that I can't even see the sun. But you might have noticed it too that people in mountains(J&K, h,p and northeast India) and Goa don't care. They won't take pictures and stare. As you might have noticed in you ladak trip.
@@RhettandClaire The states you visited (Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and parts of Delhi) rank on the lower tier of literacy and economy per capita. Generally in India (and probably rest of the world), the more the poor people, the more is the crime rate.
In most of the stories it was the local guide/cheap hotel staff manager who assaulted the female traveler. But in a group it is less likely to happen. Due to the recent incidents in last few years police department is criticized about safety of woman. Although cops may not be really helpful in such cases but some sexual offenders were encountered(shooting criminal while making an attempt to escape) by cops in last years.
I being indian says this, it is not safe for solo traveller. Indian women always travel with their relatives and friends .And indian women travel during daytime, and never travel to issue related area, creepy area and isolated area.
Hey Claire! I had followed your past videos of this India series, especially the trip to Ladakh and loved the way you guys covered it! Also seen some Indonesia vlogs. Please cover Vietnam. Wanna see the country through your lenses! Just came across this video and here is my thought on it. I met a woman traveler in Budapest (2018), she was from Slovakia. She was with a female friend from Montenegro. The Slovak lady visited India 2 years prior with another female friend. She told me right at my face that she hated India. When asked the reason, she said she was groped by few guys while taking a group photo (just like you guys experienced) at a historical palace in a city in Rajasthan. Someone put their hand on her shoulder without asking her and someone touched (rather, felt) her bums! She felt it was intentional and not accidental. Even more, someone touched her friend's bosom while taking the group photo! You can imagine their horror! The woman from Montenegro simply didn't want to visit India. So, I can totally understand and connect with the points that you made about safety. Indian women also face similar ordeal in their own country and it's a real fact! Nevertheless, happy that you enjoyed seeing the varied landscapes and the hospitality there! Next time, please visit Southern India and North East India. Trust me, you will have much better experiences.
Yaah best recommendation is to travel with your partner or any male friend you got. I am not a big guy but my presence is enough to stop anyone approaching my girlfriend even in crime infested regions of Delhi. India is a mix bad of good and bad stuff and I hope in coming decades boys and men in India start to mature a little bit.
Travelled through Pune (felt safe!), Goa (didn't feel safe!) and Mumbai (felt a little safe) by myself as a white female, blonde hair. I totally love India and will go back, but not by myself.
I personally loved India!! I travelled alone as a woman for three months from north to south and it was fine. But yes, respect the local conservative culture, wear long, loose clothing , but don’t let the little nuances bother you. Yes they stare, yes they want your picture, yes they’ll harass you for money or sell you something, but I just ignore all of that. It’s part of traveling. It’s what makes India so different from other countries, therefore so precious
@tabysart you are in a real sense, a wanderer/traveller. Travelling in a true sense is experiencing something different (and I mean not crime) from where you come. If you want to have same experiences everywhere then it will be boring. Secondly, where ever you travel, you should always be careful about local sensibilities and traditions. If you ignore them then there would be repercussions and they happen everywhere and with everyone.
@Rhett and Claire, I Wish you would have visited South India, your perspective and experience in India would have changed a lot. Next time you plan for India please do visit Karnataka and other southern states.
Hey guys ...my wife and I are from South Africa, living in Centurion....and we pretty much want to follow the same journey you guys have....start a channel and travel, you guys have really inspired us to take the leap...we have even started taking editing courses 💪 Curious to know what you guys record on and what editing software you use.
Ive been to 38 countries and India has to be the worst ive been to in terms of basic manners. Even as a man I was stared at even whilst eating which is incredibly rude. Sellers and tuk tuk drivers followed me and wouldnt take no for an answer. Asking for selfies from strangers ive never experienced before apart from india, what do they even do with these photos?! Must say the south of india i found people were less intrusive and well mannered so it could just be a north india thing
isn't that still better than getting mugged at KNIFEPOINT???? Trust me, I lived 18 years in India, never saw or experienced any crime. Here in CANADA, I have been mugged at KNIFEPOINT 3 times LOL
Also depends on where you travel. The Southern states, Mumbai, hill stations, eastern & north-eastern part of India are all safe. Avoid the golden triangle at any cost.
Hi, your videos are amazing and actually helped me a lot already to confirm whatever my boyfriend told me about India! I'm currently planning to visit my ldr boyfriend from North India, we never ever saw us before except on video calls and pictures, and now it's time for us to meet after over 1 year together. Since he is currently studying and has to do an internship during his semester break, I'm planning to visit him. I'm European, which means that I'm white as Calc and have long blond hair, so I already accepted my faith with the pictures and stares. Also, I'm relatively young and have, so far, never traveled alone. I'm really eager to see India itself regardless of my boyfriend, to clearify that im not only going for him. I will have him around at all times during my visit. That should make me pretty safe already, right? Also, I'm good with languages, which makes communication no problem either. He says that I will be completely safe with him, but my family is really concerned about my plans. They heard a lot of bad things about India. Even tho I trust my boyfriend, I still am concerned if my family is right that I shouldn't go (alone, at least). That leads me to my actual question: Do you have any advice on what you'd do in my case!? Maybe you've experienced similar things and can tell me how to be safer in India? Are there any safe guides I can book with whom I don't have to go through whole India in a big group of travelers -obviously I rather wanna stay in one bigger city where I'm near my boyfriend. Thanks to anyone who will read this far and maybe even give me any feedback. Have a nice day, and thanks already:)
Hey! Oh wow, that’s a tricky situation. Considering you haven’t met him in person, we’d say to not travel to India alone. If you can travel with a friend or family member, that would be ideal. If not, contact India someday thinkingindia@indiasomeday.com and plan a trip with them. They’ll look after you and help you tour India in a safe way❤️. I know it’s tough to say but don’t trust anyone over the internet, India can be dangerous for a female solo traveler so make sure you’re always in contact with someone on the ground and someone back home. Even get an Apple AirTag and keep it on you and share the location with multiple people. Better safe than sorry🥰
I’ve been solo travelling in India for a month now. Haven’t felt unsafe at all. But obviously follow the usual safety precautions. I have only experienced good while I’ve been here. There are lots of young, independent Indian women around and everyone is super helpful
@Stella It is my opinion , girl instinct ,take it or leave it . Hey don't do this . As as Indian I will say don't do this . All he want is nationality . They will say sweet things I will be there for you bla bla .
Hey everyone, thanks for all the advice:) This really helped a lot, and I'll do this whenever I do travel to India because I will! India is a beautiful country and I really wanna see it, but I'll not go alone:) I separated from my bf and again, for clarification, he's a good man and this was from my side. I'm really good now:) I won't go to India in near future but whenever I'll go, I'll take this advice, so thank you a lot for everything you commented and I hope you have a great day:)
I request to all foreign whoever about to come india. Please avoid high density area like old markets you will get nothing there and people will harash you to buy products. And am really sorry to hear that .
I respect your opinion but India is not just Delhi and Agra. Infact these cities including Mumbai should be in a no go list if you're travelling to India. These Delhites and UP waale always bring shame to our country 😔
It's not just travelling, it's everything, going to school, college, coaching classes, and working job - everything is a challenge but we need to survive as there is no option
Asian Indian Ethnic bloke, living in Australia as a citizen and a nationality. I am a Gen Z mid 20s. I have spent only a few years of my life in India as a resident for about 3-4 years and also a overseas tourist visiting home every now and then, to catch up with family and relatives every few years for about a week. As far as I am aware, because India is so chaotic, lacking a lot of organised system like here in Australia, navigating for me is quite a challenge. I remember that one time that I was told to buy groceries from the local supermarket just a few blocks away and it’s walking distance, I can tell you that I wasn’t feeling quite confident and comfortable and competent in my self at all. Probably because of lack of experience living in India, even during that small part of childhood. Given that you have had a terrible experience, and given that I do have some prior knowledge living in countries outside of India and understanding how cultural and demographic and complex dynamics plays its own part. Again this video only shows the bad experience which can happen to anyone, anything, anywhere, anyplace, anyone regardless if you’re a tourist or even a local, this doesn’t represent the entire demographic or cultural dynamics, aspects, factors and frameworks. Even if some destinations are rated safe and/or unsafe overall for any body including locals and/or tourists, always travel with someone if you can, it’s all about the just in case crisis unless you can figure it out and prepared by yourself as a solo traveller and/or local, by all means whatever works best for you, no matter who you’re and where you are on your journey and in life.
I would say South India and North East India are safe as safe as Southeast Asia even for Solo female travelers. most unsafe place in India is Delhi after that unsafe would be parts of Bihar, UP and West Bengal.
Great video. BTW you are very attractive, not plain at all. In all my travels, especially to developing countries that do not have our "enlightened" view of exposure and form fitting clothing- just dont do it- ever, the only people that wear that sort of clothing in those places are normally very active at night! Thank you.
Go to travel agency and make them do you a package tour so you know food, travel and sightseeings are all taken care off with a proper guide. Thus, circumvents most of the problems anywhere in the world in terms with tourism.
Calling your own country a third world and yet i see no abusive comments by south africans is something i like about people outside of india. In India people are so narrow minded that criticising india is kind of a war zone here
When I was in Thailand I also had a lot of people asking to take pictures with me. I felt like a unicorn with my pale skin/ red hair. I just told them as long as I got pictures with them too. So I have a bunch of pictures of myself with those people.
Don't visit India as men I don't want to see anything happen to girls beautiful like you pls travel with group and hire a tour guide nice person pls be safe I respect you alot
6:13 Yeah man its really unfortunate.I think foreign tourists should not go to very touristy places, particularly if that place has a lot of beggars etc.
Hi Claire, I am from the US and currently on a solo trip through Southern India, week 9 of 12 week trip. So I understand why this video came into my feed. I agree to everything you said in this video. Just wanted to add one point. Before coming here, my Indian friends back home suggested that I travel to Southern states (especially Kerala, Goa and Tamil Nadu) and to avoid northern parts of India, as it is much safer. So that is what I would would also suggest. I would definitely return to India next year for a tour of Nothern India, not solo though, but with a couple of friends. One thing that is common though for both south and north is the insane and crazy traffic and the honking (especially the motorcycles and scooters). You can't escape that.
@@RhettandClaire Thanks. Yes, I am having a great time. Also one point I intended to add but missed, is to learn to politely say no to selfies in touristy areas. @@247_shivamkilanjar2 Well, if your country is not safe for women, you must find why is it like that. Many foreigner choose to stay in India doesn't mean they feel safe there.
A big NO to solo female travelling in India. It will not be merely uncomfortable but can end being positively dangerous and traumatic. And the authorities, the Police etc will be dysfunctional even if not prove to being a double jeopardy 😢. If i am to say anything mitigating i can only say that the South Indian states would be way better. As also the West indian states like Maharashtra and Gujarat. And most certainly the North Eastern states like Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Meghalaya , Tripura and Manipur. Also the Hill states like Ladakh, possibly Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand.
Ya as an indian male also i don't recommend solo female traveling India, because it is nearly impossible to control the mindset of 1.4 billion people, just get a trustworthy guide u will be fine, though south india might be better in terms of safety but not delhi, rajasthan or mumbai with such huge population.

Thank you for sharing🙏🏻❤️

@@michellefong952Going with friends or a male partner and/or doing guided tours would be safest for women travelers to India...so you did good 👍
Kudos to you guys spreading the truth, I think your review of the whole situation is practical enough.
On point
Guns plays an important role in population control. 😆Also an armed society is a polite society. BTW I lived in USA for 5 Years but in more civilized cities like Charlotte, Dearborn, Overland Park etc. Also, there are more prisons than schools.
Gun violence is increasing in Toronto as well sadly!

Great video (so far! I haven’t finished watching yet!) 🥰

You are exceptionally lucky; however, keep on visiting the country and one day you will hit the jackpot !

But why even live in the wicked West, when India is so great.
I'd argue that non whites are treated better in the uk than any other majority white country in the world
ladies, go to India, see how it goes

I'm from Shimla, Himachal. I have noticed that people in state, such as, Delhi, Rajasthan, Mumabi, U.P are pushy and don't have basic etiquette on how to behave in a compony of other. And these are the states I have 1st seen people begging and population so much that I can't even see the sun.
But you might have noticed it too that people in mountains(J&K, h,p and northeast India) and Goa don't care. They won't take pictures and stare. As you might have noticed in you ladak trip.
Yes, we definitely noticed that. Not one person bothered us in Ladakh. What is the reason for it?

In most of the stories it was the local guide/cheap hotel staff manager who assaulted the female traveler. But in a group it is less likely to happen. Due to the recent incidents in last few years police department is criticized about safety of woman. Although cops may not be really helpful in such cases but some sexual offenders were encountered(shooting criminal while making an attempt to escape) by cops in last years.
Terrifying that a traveler even has to go through all of that.😭
I being indian says this, it is not safe for solo traveller.
Thank you for this story! I'm a woman & thinking of travelling to India - but not alone.
In short, the answer is "N.O."
Agree with you - I’m planning a solo trip in the new year!
@@DJosh20 It doesn't happen in China or Singapore. Those countries are absolutely safe. India is a crap shoot.
@Rhett and Claire, I Wish you would have visited South India, your perspective and experience in India would have changed a lot. Next time you plan for India please do visit Karnataka and other southern states.
Hey guys ...my wife and I are from South Africa, living in Centurion....and we pretty much want to follow the same journey you guys have....start a channel and travel, you guys have really inspired us to take the leap...we have even started taking editing courses 💪
Curious to know what you guys record on and what editing software you use.

Well Done Rhett and Claire. This is the accurate picture.
Solo females should even avoid south undia too
Hi, your videos are amazing and actually helped me a lot already to confirm whatever my boyfriend told me about India!
@@RhettandClaire Great advice!
I’ve been solo travelling in India for a month now. Haven’t felt unsafe at all. But obviously follow the usual safety precautions. I have only experienced good while I’ve been here. There are lots of young, independent Indian women around and everyone is super helpful
@Stella
It is my opinion , girl instinct ,take it or leave it .
Mumbai is safe but these migrant labours from up, bihar and illegal immigrants from bangladesh are bringing shame.
Mumbai is much safer than Delhi and the cowbelt region.
Mumbai is safe
Thank you for the truthful review!!!
I would say South India and North East India are safe as safe as Southeast Asia even for Solo female travelers. most unsafe place in India is Delhi after that unsafe would be parts of Bihar, UP and West Bengal.
Excuse me. I'm HIMACHAL. why you guys putting us with bad crowd with north india?
i am from bihar the basic difference is education and development this lack in the north
Very interesting and informative topic 🙏🏽 thank you Claire ❤❤
What she said is very true. Safe? Depends. Life changing? Definitely.
Please visit south India, people are more civil in this part of the country, relatively safe
Interesting. Why is that?
@@RhettandClaireEach state in India is different culturally...
This is called TRUE review 👏
Calling your own country a third world and yet i see no abusive comments by south africans is something i like about people outside of india. In India people are so narrow minded that criticising india is kind of a war zone here
the answer is NO
When I was in Thailand I also had a lot of people asking to take pictures with me. I felt like a unicorn with my pale skin/ red hair. I just told them as long as I got pictures with them too. So I have a bunch of pictures of myself with those people.
Those pictures they ask yo for are often used for shady purposes.
Thank you for sharing that!🥰. We’ll visit South India one day soon! We hope you’re having a great time though and that nothing bad has happened🙏🏻🥰
@@RhettandClaire Thanks. Yes, I am having a great time. Also one point I intended to add but missed, is to learn to politely say no to selfies in touristy areas. If you make that mistake, as I did initially, it is like opening the floodgates - everyone wants one with you.😃. I do agree to selfies occasionally, with families and friendly people in less crowded places, though.
@@AngelKen-bq2kz we mentioned that in this video🥰
I think India is one of the most beautiful countries in the world
And you can travel to it
is it safe for women?
@@rezaalizaida783 No. Sorry.
@@rezaalizaida783not safe…dont come to india
@@yamatokira4335 then how come so many foreigners living in India
@@247_shivamkilanjar2 Well, if your country is not safe for women, you must find why is it like that.
Many foreigner choose to stay in India doesn't mean they feel safe there.
You must come to Kamakhya temple ,in India 😊.
you have not seen best of Indian architecture. best of them are in South India.
Fact is fact.
Education is only solution
His to behaviour with outsider
Short answer no... But there are few places where it is safe to do so even as a solo traveller.
Agreed🙏🏻
This whole golden triangle is a trap. Just goto south and see marvellous architecture or goto the hills and chill out.
@@RhettandClaire out of India you only explore golden triangle at least you have chosen better state
Where can you get a guide?
You were so polite and sweet! As an Indian I would not recommend traveling alone as a woman! Its not safe at all!
