As a massive Tesla and Sandy fan, I’m not sure this video is particularly impartial. There were a number of times where the answer was right in front of you and the car was unfairly penalised for this. The start of the video, clearly shot in retrospect, was added after the fact to give the “it should be obvious” standpoint to make this footage usable and I think that was a shame.

    • @KJfourIPS

UI/UX is part of the car, it can't be ignored. It's obvious to me that the empty square on the left is a home button, but that's not a universal convention. The UI already drops labels on everything when it detects a nearby hand, why not drop a "home" label, or a subtle house icon in the center, to hint that it is something you can press. Every other menu button on the screen does this.
The good news is that this is something that can be easily fixed, so it might not be a long term issue, so it's more of a "Windows 8 start screen" instead of a "No wiper stalk",

Translation of a middle part of the video: I enter a menu entry that's clearly stating "here you can add an unknown charging station that you know of" and complain that this can't be used to find the stations that is known.
    Update:
Actual label is "Locations", which turns out to be "Saved charging locations" when you click on it. It is indeed slightly misleading and could be easily rectified in a couple of ways: (1) call this "Bookmarks": (2) add a "Search" or "Locations" (in a sense of search for known locations) sub-menu here; or (3) allow searching for known locations in this menu entry. Should any of this be in "charging" menu? Don't know, but having the same function on two places wouldn't really bother me. **VW could and probably should improve this.**
The rest is not their fault, as Sandy clicks on "Add current position as a charging station" and then spends a few minutes in that menu point complaining that he can't use it to search for known locations. th-cam.com/video/3oC9sUiwyL8/w-d-xo.html
That's basically just being anal and complaining because you feel like complaining. I can understand it, sometimes one just feels like bitching, but I would be ashamed to show myself in such a state to the world.

Regarding the "getting to the map" I seriously have to disagree with you.
Literally after 1 second of seeing the screen I would've tapped on the home button on the left part of the screen to get to the menu where you'll probably find the map.
The car literally told you on that screen that you were adding the "current position as a charging location" and NOT searching for a charger.
That's probably to manage how the car charges at your home. Maybe you have a second location like your work where you want it to charge in a different way. That's what this is probably meant for.
For me personally this was totally easy to understand.
Maybe not as intuitive as a Tesla, yes, but I immediately knew what to do (I've never driven an ID car before, I drive a Tesla).

What bothers me most is that the car surely did not start up in this sub-menu. When you switch it on it first presents the home menu - and there's a huge button for navigation there. So how/when did Sandy enter this sub-menu and why wasn't he aware that he's not on the main screen. It's hard to believe this happened "by accident"...

we had a ERP system at work for 6 years before I had to go and use it to order things, like hammers bolts nuts, welding stuff, blah blah what ever you can think of.
You need to know the product name and article number and which company to order it from + price.
Most of the things I need to order have been ordered many times before me.
First time I log on to it I’m like “ where is the search function?”
      “ what do you mean?”
“ well, you know, to search for something that has been ordered before, to see where it was ordered and how many and the price etc”
      “ that’s not possible”
“It is possible, sent an email to the programmer, I want that function...”
1 week later, I’ve got my search function, why it wasn’t a standard function to begin with?? I dunno.
My previous coworkers that had to use this system had to scroll back manually checking each order until they found one that contained the product they wanted to order, so they could copy that one.
Now I just type it in the search and voila..
Glad I do have some programming experience so I know what is possible instead of being like “ it’s not in here so it must not be possible”
Also funny bug, there is a dropmenu, where I can write a letter in, it will automatically choose the thing that starts with the letter and highlight it, I press enter to confirm the selection, everything looks like it’s fine, but on the backend with SQL something goes wrong and it sees my enter as an actual input in the field, so it returns an error when you try to save the order on the server.
Gotta click on the menu, scroll down, select it with mouse and then click away without using enter in order for it to work,

  • @jbhorner
    @jbhorner 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

A useful video-if one’s purpose for watching is because s/he has a desire to see how the ID.4 performs as a rental vehicle. I believe the vast majority of ID.4 acquisitions in the beginning are going to be actual consumers...people that will take the time to familiarize themselves with a car they’r going to fork over a boatload of cash to acquire. The comparison he notes with an iPhone is rather ironic. The box on the left hand side of the screen operates in much the same way as an old-school iPhone’s “home” button. Press that, and you’ll see all of the apps, one of which is navigation...it does NOT require a voice command.
The comment about having to seek a charging station is a bit off the wall as well. The ID.4 uses standard charging connections by default. So, J1772 or CCS at any infrastructure that supports those standards. It is NOT necessary to seek an Electrify America location, unless the goal is to use that for the purpose of enjoying the free charging provided to those who acquire an ID.4. Whether all of them in aggregate are sufficient I believe is a valid issue. But it is also valid for any EV; Tesla charge points are not everywhere either. (They are focused along main corridors.)
I think the comments on driving were fair, though I wish this video focused more on that, versus the rant about the user interface. I have owned 2 Volts, a BMW ActiveE, A BMW i3, a Toyota RAV4 EV (second generation), and Honda Clarity PHEV. Each had their pluses and minuses. I hated the UI on all of them, honestly. I’m not totally in love with the ID.4’s either...but it is incrementally better.
Some of the comments below are out there with respect to feedback. Using CarPlay, was simple. I paired my phone, I was asked if I want to use CarPlay, and it worked. (There was no need for me to manually connect to the ID.4’s WiFi spot.) The reason it does connect to that, by the way, is because one is using wireless CarPlay. If you don’t like it, plug the phone in. This is an Apple functionality issue, not the ID.4.

I have no doubt that Sandy knew this and purposely avoided it, because he's a Tesla shill, who's trying to put down VW vehicles. He's done it in 5 straight videos. I'm not even a VW fan and I'm saying this because it's so disgustingly blatant. He wasn't in a hurry, he drove to Novi to go to the charger, and then drove back.
In his previous charging video, he claimed he drove 25 miles which he showed a map of in that video. He was lying, that map was not the route he took. That map showed he traveled on telegraph road. From this video, it's 100% certain he never went on Telegraph. In fact, the map he showed was backwards, from Novi where the charger was, back to Auburn Hills where his business is.
The route he actually took is 39 miles of 100% highway driving. It goes right by my house. From Auburn Hills, he took i-75 south all the way down to i-696. He took that west, past the Detroit Zoo, all the way to Novi, for a total trip length of 39 miles. He was driving 83 miles per hour in no traffic at from the short driving clip he showed. 13 mph over the speedlimit. He said he didn't understand how he could have used 22% of the battery for only 25 miles... except it was 39 miles. Well, if you're starting with 250 miles of range, 22% is 55 miles. Driving at the higher speed significantly reduces your efficiency. Especially in a vehicle with a drag coefficient of .28.
He also lied in the previous video about the price, claiming this was the same price as a Tesla. A base model Y is $50,500. A base model 3 SR+ is $38,500. Neither is eligible for the federal credit anymore. The VW's are still eligible for the full $7500 credit. The 1st edition ID.4 costs $44,000 or $36,500 after credit. The base ID.4 costs $40,000., or $32,500 after credit.
    The ID4 is $14,000 - $18,000 cheaper than the base model Y after credit. It's $2,000 - $6,000 cheaper than the base model 3. Compared to the model 3 LR, it's $11,000 - $15,000 cheaper....
Sandy is so full of cr.p... I'm simply amazed and disgusted. This man is a disgrace to himself and the profession. Sandy, you may be fooling the other people watching your videos that don't really know anything about EVs.. but I do... and your blatantly lying is as clear as day.
At the end Sandy says he really thought the ID.4 could be a killer to the model 3. Oh BS. He claimed he had never done a single bit of research on the Id.4 until the first walkaround video 1 week ago, and he was clearly biased from the get go, dinging VW on things that they didn't do wrong... Sandy just didn't understand what they were for... or at least claimed he didn't understand. I mean... c'mon people, the dude's paid to be an expert in the auto industry... and he's got a custom "Munro Live " sticker on his model 3 that his Tesla shares no doubt paid for. Do you honestly believe he doesn't understand?

I've driven both the Tesla Model 3/Y and the ID.4 - the ID.4's interior and ride handling destroys Tesla IMHO. Range/efficiency/charging is good, power is adequate (AWD will help), but the 3 years of free charging on EA seals the deal for me.

To be honest, the "empty box" as a home button trend really infuriates me. If it were a physical button, it would have gotten pressed, but if you aren't familiar with cellphone UIs, you have no reason to expect that said square is a button. It relies on a convention that not every target user has been exposed too. He literally presses every available button (except the hazard flashers), and doesn't find the home button. Tesla's UI does a better job of being discoverable for the most part (the Tesla logo as a button is a bit of a stretch though, because it looks like it might be decorative).
My current vehicle (Polestar 2) has a similar problem, the home button is an illuminated bar at the bottom of the screen, you could easily be forgiven for thinking it is a design feature, many passengers actually wind up using the "all apps" button (top bar, four squares), since it is pretty obvious it is something you can touch, one passenger only discovered it by accidentally brushing the button.
While with a cell phone, you can reasonably assume that the user might already have seen that convention, or that you will get to display a tutorial to the end user, that is not a given with a car.

Problem is not that I can’t use any car I want. I can. Thats quite simple to me...if someone has issues to understand this that person should not be allowed to drive a car in the public.
