I wish the mineral supplement didn't have stevia in it. I hate the taste of stevia. No need for sweeteners. Hard to find a mineral supplement that don't have any sweetener in it, so I have been trying to make my own, but hard to get all the main minerals together, in the right form, without being super expensive and needing a lot of space for them all.

@@a3sully I love stevia, they're not all created equal. This is actually a better priced electrolyte than others people offer on their channels. I saw one earlier that was $45 per month. Who can afford that.

I’ve been having hair analysis done for two years. What I’ve learned is the importance of having the ratios in balance. They work in teams. Ca/P, Na/K, Ca/k, Zn/Cu, Na/Mg, Ca/mg, Fe/Cu These ratios affect metabolism.

Because these doctor buffoons dont even understand. The sodium / potassium pump, sodium and potassium are on a shared axis and need to be kept in balance, its around 4 grams of each daily. But if you had 4 grams of sodium without equivalent potassium you will in short order, have serious health issues.
Instead of instructing decreasing sodium, doctors should prescribe increased potassium. These well-meaning (arrogant) medical numb-skulls are seriously affecting peoples health in the negative.

    • @absurdlyobfuscated

Absolutely, it's essential and most people don't know anything about it. It's easy to become deficient, especially if you don't eat a lot of fruits and vegetables.
It's not just helpful for mineral absorption, it's essential for bone growth - deficiency causes osteoporosis directly. Also important for hormone production and metabolism, and wound healing, It even has anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer effects. Everyone needs to be getting enough, 3mg/day at the bare minimum.

I would LOVE to see a video on how to reach our daily goal of 4700mg of Potassium. We all live busy lives and can't eat all the foods we should eat while on the run. Most supplements are 95mg, a few are around 350mg but after counting, with my total I'm 2000mg from my daily goal. The best I found was a electrolyte citrace drink that had about 500mg to 1000mg of Potassium, but very expensive. Right now, I drink a cup of Oat Milk, in the morning & evening - 370mg Potassium per cup and a few others vitamins. It's like we are climbing the same mountain everyday, and we never make it to the top because there's no other paths beside eating it.

There are also an issue with refining vegetables and fruid to have them more resistant to pests and bugs and extend their ability to shelf life and long teansports and this typically have less nutrition in them. I think it was at the Endevr channel I saw a documentary on this So if you have possibility it could be worthwhile to try and get some heirloomseeds and grow some of your own vegetables, even in a pot indoors with artificial light or at a balcony. Kids often think it's a fun project too already at a very young age.

This is helpful information Dr. Ekberg. As a woman I had a lot of deficiency, I mean starting with Iron (due to anemia) and then Magnesium, Boron, etc. Most of the time I had headaches, nausea, fatigue and very low blood pressure. I collapsed two times due to the low blood pressure. I started taking supplements after consulting a doctor and all the blood work, and all that suffering vanished.

I only have one issue, as a person who works with plants.. well they too can't survive without certain minerals being in the soil. So the tomato might be puffed with water and without much taste but it will have the essential minerals, even if in lower concentration than a tomato grown in enriched soil.

I was getting frequent heavy numbness and tingling in hands and lower arms. I purchased euLyte and use a 3 scoop dose daily because it alivieates the numbness and tingling usually in about a half hour after consumption .I'm now noticing a gradual improvement with dysbiosis as well.

magnesium citrate is not the best bioavailable form, but it is relatively cheap. zinc should not be combined with other minerals and it is best taken before sleep (it increases sleep quality). I advise my patients to take separate supplements, combined forms are more convenient, but can be counterproductive....

Thank you Dr Ekberg for the presentation on minerals. One of the most important minerals in my opinion is potassium, yet it difficult to understand how one would get 4700 mg from food without eating a ton of bananas which would be too much sugar. I live in Europe and can supplement with high doses. In the US I see doses of 99 mg of potassium in a single pill. Since the connection between sodium and potassium is so important why is the dose so low in the US. My electrolytes mix contain 1400 mg of potassium which I take before I workout. Just never understood the 99 mg dose for Potassium.

Now Foods offers both Potassium Citrate and Potassium Chloride supplements in powder form. The Citrate form is generally easier to consume due to its neutral taste, whereas the Chloride form has a taste reminiscent of salt. However, Potassium Chloride has a higher concentration of elemental potassium, approximately 50%, compared to the citrate form, which contains around 33% (I believe my information is correct; however, verification would be wise.)
This means that to obtain 4700mg of elemental potassium, one would need to consume 9400mg of Potassium Chloride or 14200mg of Potassium Citrate. However, it's important to note that we also obtain some amount of potassium through the foods we eat, and thus the intake of these supplements should be adjusted accordingly.
For endurance athletes, the requirement for potassium may be significantly higher due to their rigorous physical activities. Therefore, consulting a healthcare or a nutritional expert to determine the precise dosage based on individual needs and dietary intake is always recommended.

    Here is a ChatGPT summary:
    - Minerals are elements or chemical compounds made from single atoms or combinations of different atoms.
    - Minerals are usually in a crystalline structure and are formed by geological events.
    - There are over 5,500 different kinds of minerals, but the ones essential to human health are the ones that make their way into the human body or plants.
    - Electrolytes are important minerals that conduct electricity and are involved in fluid balance and signaling in the body.
    - The four main electrolytes are sodium, potassium, magnesium, and calcium, along with chloride, phosphate, and bicarbonate.
    - Electrolytes form compounds with other substances and become positively or negatively charged ions.
    - Electrolytes are needed in relatively large quantities, while trace minerals are needed in smaller amounts but are equally important.
    - Copper and iron can become toxic if there is an excess in the body.
    - Manganese and zinc are essential trace minerals involved in various enzymatic reactions.
    - Signs that indicate a need for minerals and electrolytes include dizziness, heart arrhythmias, muscle cramps, headaches, numbness and tingling, mood swings and irritability, slow wound healing, dry flaky skin, digestive issues, poor immunity, and general fatigue.
    - Soil depletion due to mass farming and synthetic fertilizers has led to mineral deficiencies in many people.
    - Anemia can be caused by a deficiency in iron, B vitamins, zinc, or copper.
    - Dehydration and lack of proper signaling can also contribute to general fatigue and blood sugar regulation issues.
    - Chromium and manganese are important for insulin sensitivity and blood sugar regulation.

Just read something yesterday about sodium and potassium in that if you add too much salt to your food, you can raise your blood pressure…and I think we’ve all heard that at some point, which is why “they” say you need to limit sodium intake. But what I didn’t know, is that usually creates an imbalance where potassium becomes too low, and if you add potassium supplement, that brings the blood pressure back down. Maybe I interpreted the meta analysis wrong?

    • @drekberg
      @drekberg  ปีที่แล้ว +10

Thank you @haroldmack1704. The kidneys filter out about 200 liters of water along with sodium, then it reabsorbs 99.5% of the sodium through the sodium potassium pump which pulls 3 sodium molecules back in and expels 2 potassium molecules out. This is not the only mechanism that regulates the two, but sodium and potassium are regulated against each other to some degree. 😄
