    I recommend the 3 Straps and 2 Buckles for $99 combos!!
    This 1988 Porsche 928S is a higher-mile example that was used as a daily driver for 11 years before being configured with its current VCB Engineering Rotrex Supercharger Kit and tuned by ATS Racing of Denton, TX. It makes 370 WHP on just 5 PSI of boost. It features an updated suspension with Koni 3-way adjustable shocks.
    Special thanks to ATS Racing of Denton, TX for having me out to drive all these great cars! If you have and oddball car that needs forced induction, give ATS Racing a call!
    Special thanks to Eagles Canyon Raceway for the track time! For track rental or membership inquiry visit: eaglescanyon.com/
    Special thanks to Mason Bleadsell and Thomas Le for the cover photos and drive-by shot assistance. www.bleasdellph...

    You can swap in the Corvette C5 or C6 6 speed manual into these cars. There are kits made to do this and some of us owners have already done it (not me). For anyone concerned, Sean is one of the most well known 928 mechanics in the US, he's based in Texas as you can tell and does great work. In SoCal we have Greg Brown at Precision Motorwerks and he is the king of making mods to bring the 928 up to date with modern GT cars.

      Zero Cool yes. I would stick with the stock 928 engine though to keep the character and that the crank is forged (good for 900+ hp) and the stock rarst rods are good for 500hp boosted on daily driven cars. They are stout engines.

    This is by far the favorite car of all of the 67 cars in my life. Yes, I have had faster, handled better, braked better, better mpg; yet this car has a soul that not even my 02 911T does not have. It is that sound at start up that gets the hard on in the AM.

    The same guy in WI, Carl Fausset, installed a C5 zo6 trans axel in my 1986.5. It's in a refresh right now, but the swap livens the car up and changes the final drive from 2:20 to 3:42 with an OD 6th.......much better gearing. If you ever get to meet him you'll be even more impressed with the 928. He owns 928 Motorsports.

      It was also one of the transaxle cars! That means it had the transmission at the back and the engine in the front, for great weight distribution and a very high polar moment of inertia (resistance to spinning out, makes them feel very stable at the limits). The 928 lasted as long as the entire 924/944/968 run, which were the other three Porsche transaxle cars :)

    I have a 84 with a 85 4 speed auto ready for future ( soon ) turbo charger. It is very easy to fix that ( lazy ) feel of the transmission . Take the vacuum module hose off and plug the hose. Crank the T screw on 4 full turns OR MORE and tighten up the kick down cable as much as you can . It will shift like a race car. Higher rpm and each shift feels like you hit something. This does ZERO harm The shift hardness can be adjusted with the module t screw . this makes a HUGE difference BIG TIME. Mine also ALWAYS starts in 1st gear. I have a feeling someone did a valve body modification to make that happen.

      Pretty sure an LS has been put in just about everything already, including a 928. Know they are in 924's and 944's as well as 911's. Nothing wrong with it either, just think an all Porsche swap would be cool.

    • @vtr0104
      @vtr0104 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      How can anyone fit an LS into a 924 that just had a 4 cylinder?.. This is giving me an idea that might just be stupid enough to work about finding one in the EU and trying to carb it to run in a Renault 12 shell :|

    • @Mandurath
      @Mandurath 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The engine bay is very Miata like (large for the cars size), and similarly, Porsche's 4 Cylinder is pretty big and heavy, while an LS is pretty compact and light for what it is. A quick google will show its been done alot. The weakness on the 924 swap is its transmission. The same with some 944's, I don't remember which transmission numbers it is though. Likely all older Porsche's have an LS swap version.

    The 928's were true GT cars and the build quality was exceptional in its time. Supercharged versions are not common, but the options has been around for many years. An amazing car and not many around anymore. Wish Matt would actually share the history of this platform, they were expensive to make and the power train wasn't the most reliable, but the aftermarket support today enables owners to rebuild the cars with modern day, high quality parts and the outcome is glorious! If you can find one, get one. Invest in one a bit and you'll be rewarded with a world class GT German car. Like most all Porsche's, these cars will be timeless.

    One thing I don't understand though... those white turn signals. They make ANY classic look cheap and trashy. These belts are actually made from full-grain leather, which is really impressive. So many belts out there use "genuine leather" which is just that bonded leather crap that will just crack and fall apart after a few months of use. Full-grain is good stuff.

    This is literally the only track I've driven at yet because they had a free, open track day to one of the Texas car communities i was involved in. I didn't have a "fun" car at the time, just my stock, automatic Scion XA commuter with 185/15 tires. Drums in the rear. What a stupid, incredibly slow paced, wonderful day.

    I had a neighbor that 10 years ago I offered to buy his 928s that needed a little work (needed a trans). At the time its good was starting to rust from sap eating the paint as it sat underneath a pine tree, tires where flat, it was iffy but had good compression. It was still sitting there about two years ago rusted to shit with what looked like mold inside the windows.
    I don't know why he didn't sell it so it could have a happy life.

    Oh man my dad had 2 of these. 1 red supercharged and 1 black naturally aspirated. SO FUN TO RIDE IN but he sold the red one because he slid out on a corner and wrecked the rear right side and hid it from me and my brother for a while until he fixed it and sold it. Then in 2017 we sold our black 928 to buy a boat.

    The hissing noise is compressor surge, which is actually from a lack of a BOV.

    • @seanr928docs7
      @seanr928docs7 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Nope, there is a BOV on there, and that's what you are hearing.

    • @buzzedo1
      @buzzedo1 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Is the bov venting back into intake? I guess so. I have mag clutch so when backoff i bypass round supercharger and declutch. Gets rid of the very ordinary noise. Cool car! I do recall a turbo v8 in aus years ago..ca nt recall exact hp but north of 600. It was a beast but I always wondered what a rebuild with forget internals would run to on a porsche v8..scary I expect.

    • @seanr928docs7
      @seanr928docs7 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's venting to atmosphere. I've got the plumbing to route it back to the intake (pre SC) but when the rad blew on the dyno and not being able to quickly modify the replacement to put the other intake snout on, I left it all off. Much louder this way and that's what you are hearing.

    • @kanaric
      @kanaric 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm sorry but I too bough Anson belts and the bucket on 1 broke and the replacement was scratched. Next one came with part of the finish gone. The Kore essentials was better. Buckle isn't as lose and is smaller. Got the one that looks like a normal buckle E shape. The leather for Anson was fine and is interchangeable but the cloth ones I got from Anson 2 have completely fallen apart.

  • @MrGsteele
    @MrGsteele 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I can't imagine using an automatic transmission car around a racetrack - without a modern paddle shifter, that is. Sounds really good, though. Love the car otherwise. That noise is probably from the blow-off valve, not a wastegate (wastegates are on a turbo's exhaust side, rather than the compressed air side going into the cylinders) - sometimes supercharger companies put them on centrifugal chargers so they can use a smaller pulley and build power at lower rpm, then vent the excess pressure at high rpm so the engine doesn't blow. They are common on turbos, but not as much on superchargers. But centrifugal chargers don't have the linear boost of a roots-type charger - they really build in the higher rpm ranges. So to move the torque to lower rpm, mid-range is "over-boosted" and the blow-off valve vents the excess. He boosted very mildly - 5 pounds - so he probably did this to fatten up the torque curve by bringing in the 5 lb boost earlier.

    That thing has a rear transaxle, right? A torque-tube connecting the front-mounted engine to the transaxle in the rear, right? So you’d expect its balance to be pretty good, I would think... Especially with the engine being mounted with its center of gravity just behind the front wheels. I don’t know off the top of my head, but I’d bet it’s pretty darn close to 50/50 weight balance.
