Why the heck do you have LinuxFX linked in the description? That distro is way more invasive than Windows 11! That distro makes you pay for a license, and it breaks many GPL rules! It also had a terrible data breach!

Thank you for making this video. As a newcomer to the Linux ecosystem, I need a little bit of hand-holding to be able to do things. In the terminal, did you press enter after typing 'Y' because when I do so, it aborts whatever I was doing.
You may use the free version to test out zorin and if you liked it you may choose to pay for the ultimate version to appreciate the developers for the hardwork they put into it.
I'm looking at replacing my XP machine with a single board computer and likely run Zoron any suggestions? The most power hungry thing I'll be doing is light video editing.
Most singleboard computers can't run Zorin because they mostly use Arm CPUs. You need an x86 SBC for Zorin and if you want to do editing you would need a decent one at that. Try getting an x86 SBC around $200 and putting Zorin Lite on it. But SBCs are not met to replace your PC.
For people migrating from Windows, who aren't big gamers, just regular desktop app users - Zorin OS 16.2 Pro is my favorite OS distribution - hands down. You can try the Core version for free. However, for just $39 for Pro, they provide online installation support, which for a nube Linux user coming from Windows is important. And, $39 is NOTHING for a Windows user who is used to paying thru the nose for OS, app s/w, etc. Just my take. I've been trying linux desktop distributions for 15+ years, as a Windows user, Solaris, RedHat, .... ubuntu, MintOS, PopOS, ElementaryOS, ... but ZorinOS 15 then 16 was the one that hooked me a year ago (actually installed ZorinOS 15.x first and tried it.) I installed Oracle's VirtualBox on all my Windows machines (some Core2Duos, some Intel 4th Gen, 5th Gen, and 6th Gen) as trials with older hardware I had laying around. Even running on VirtualBox, I enjoyed ZorinOS 16.x very much. So, I backed up my Windows OS installs I had on 3 laptop machines - 1 Core2Duo, 1 5th Gen, and 1 6th Gen; then did bare metal original installs of ZorinOS 16.1 Pro (which auto upgraded to 16.2 later). I've been using these systems for over a year now, right along side my Windows 10 laptops. I switch and go back and forth with no problems. (I have also continued to use the VirtualBox/ZorinOS 16.2 Pro installs running on my Windows 10 laptops & HP All-in-One Desktop, as it is so easy - it really starts & runs like an 'application' on Windows. My next laptops will probably be a new 13th Gen Raptor Lake with 16GB DRAM, and 1TB of SSD storage - so I can't wait to see how both baremetal and VirtualBox installs run with all those P Cores and E Cores with lots of RAM & Nvme SSD to play with! Zorin OS 16.x Pro is great. I am, in fact, using my Dell Inspiron 15-5548 5th Gen (2 cores/4 threads) laptop w 16GB RAM & 1TB Sata2/3 SSD w ZorinOS 16.2 Pro to write this comment to all of you!

I have found that I can do everything I need to do in Linux. I could drop Micro$oft with only one hitch.....iTunes movies and TV shows. I am rather vested in them. I have tried a few Wine options and configs available on the web with no actual success. The best I got was being able to play a video but with no video, only audio. I understand Apple media is DRM protected. But with all the other options out there for nearly every other app, someone needs to find a way to make an iTunes/AppleTV clone for Linux. Even if we could simply enter our Apple creds to make it legal for use. That's the only thing stopping me. If anyone has instructions for an "ACTUAL WORKING" process for iTunes or some other app that doesn't require me to rip every movie I have, I've be very grateful.
I fully agree with Elementary OS if coming from a Mac. But coming from Windows I think a person would be much better off with Linux Mint cinnamon. If you want something more pretty and just as buggy as windows try Manjaro KDE.
Majaro isn't buggy really. But if you want a very stable kde is neon is better choice. And as of cinnamon I don't think people going from windows 10 would prefer it over kde. Cinnamon can't do basic things like battery level alert(well there is a crappy desklet bams but it's crappy) and can't do notifications very well. And it can't do system wide file search like gnome or kde(which is an important productivity feature for people who don't use their pc as just a gateway to the internet). And Nemo sucks. Nautilus is slightly better but dolphin is very good. So cinnamon imo is for old folks who are too rigid to learn a new interface
@@shrivigneshsenthilkumar9349 KDE is even worse in terms of stability. Pretty yes. I do like Krunner and Nautilus. I wish Mint would come up with something competitive. By old folks I'm assuming you are in your teens...lol anyone over 25 is old for you.
@@dragonballjiujitsu actually I am 22. I do agree that kde is relatively unstable. But honestly usability wise, cinnamon is lacking in features that are useful for work. I personally use gnome because I love the power in gnome overview's search and is more stable than kde. I had run cinnamon on arch for over a year and got very frustrated by the end of it. And my slightly uncalled for harshness( with my mention of old people ) is probably a reflection of my irritation with youtubers calling it intuitive over and over again. Honestly in my opinion if one spends a day or two, in any desktop environment, it becomes reasonably intuitive and one just needs an open mind. And also coz cinnamon doesn't resemble windows 10( resemblence to windows is the main reason people call it intuitive as it is similar to what they are used to) but what it feels more similar to is probably something like xp or even windows 7. Despite my hatred of window 10, one has to agree that the search feature of it is pretty handy and functional, thus since cinnamon is very lacking in this dept I would never suggest it to someone transitioning from windows 10. As usually when people get older they become less willing to try something new, I have this strong association of linux mint users with old people as I keep hearing over and over and over again about how intuitive or how simple it is. This is imo a lack of an open mind to trying something new. In the end of the day what works for you is all that matters, so if cinnamon works for you it's very good. But I won't agree when someone says it's a windows alternative as tbe only windows that is supported now is 10 and so anything older than it is not really what windows users think of windows.
this video is cool and all but i dont think that you understand the main reason for using/dual booting windows. it’s because of programs that aren’t available on linux. if it weren’t for that i would’ve transitioned a million years ago
I have two recommendations. 1. If the user has got access to the MS-fonts of W10 then he can simply copy those fonts or make a symbolic link. Better solution? 2. Be careful with recommending Ubuntu (Zorin) for gaming. It is not a good idea. If you have a NVidia card then it doesn't matter but if you have a recent AMD-card then you will not be happy with Ubuntu. I tried out popOS 20.04 1 week ago, it was unusable with my 5700 XT. One reason for it is that they still use kernel 5.4.0 which just is not so good for the 5700 XT. For example, there is a bug with waking after suspension (flickering, stripes...) which is caused by that kernel. How do I know? I tried out several kernels. StarCraft2 could not even launch via Lutris, possibly because the mesa-drivers and kernel are so much out of date. Better recommend Arch for gaming.
Zorin is a perfect Windows replacement if only that they'll charge you for ultimate with EVERY major release. Already bought 15... Prepare to shell out again for 16, while they gate keep the kernels. They are harvesting the money of Linux lovers to start their enterprise (Grid) ambitions, and it's disheartening.
@@will00451 the ultimate version is same except for some additional pre installed apps and some layouts. Ultimate is basically a financial model to support the project. Every successful distro does this, like Ubuntu gets money from Papa canonical, Mint from donations and sponsers, Elementary from paid apps in appstore
All linux vs windows videos repeat the same dubious arguments. In the window we have microsoft store, exe etc ... and in linux snap, flatpak, appimage, ppa, deb, aur ...
I’m not sure Zorin is the best choice because a lot of its Windows-like look is only skin deep. But I commend anyone providing a path away from the highly annoying spyware and train wreck otherwise known as Windows 10. I think for many something like Mint Cinnamon 20 is likely more friendly to Windows users once they get past looking at the pretty Zorin superficial desktop that’s just a nice facade on an otherwise disappointing distro. Mint, unlike Zorin, has some real depth to their OS that keeps more novice users out of needing to dive into the command line. Mint also has a VASTLY better and larger support community with about a zillion more users than Zorin. And most Ubuntu advice applies nicely to Mint Cinnamon more so than Zorin. So, ultimately there are good reasons why Mint has massively more market share. You’re not doing anyone any favors creating click bate videos promoting substandard relatively unpopular (paid) distros like Zorin.
Yes I was talking at the job with a coworker and told him while installing Linux in a Notebook for someone who only knows Windows: "The best distro to install for new users is Linux Mint Cinnamon, no matter what, there are many other good out there, but Mint is the ONE TO GO for new users"
Geriel Linux Mint really is the Go To distro, as most suggest, for those new to Linux and Mr Galactic should know that. I suspect because Zorin is a rare paid distro he’s being compensated for promoting Zorin with his misleading click bate video. Honestly making the desktop LOOK more like Windows as Zorin does is just superficial lipstick on a pig of a distro. It’s still a pig no matter how much Zorin wants to try and dress it up. It lacks many useful things Mint has and has far less support from its tiny user base.
I likes your videos..But I can't agree on this choise.. honestly mate I disappointed your pick..especially picking up this resources hungry crap.. this is not at all windows 10 alternative.. if realy a Windows 10 sr look and feel damn you should chose. KDE based distro...It has more superior look and feel than win 10..Even win 10 copied recently some of their features.. 😎😎
Honestly he didn't make the video particularly for you MATE 😎 ! .This video is targeted towards the masses that are still using windows and are tied down to windows due to their familiarity with the Windows UI. I don't understand why people have problems with zorin. 1. Its pretty stable. 2. It's focused on one and only goal to make windows users comfortable with linux and I think that does it pretty well. Now comming back to your solution first of all KDE is not as OS its just an Desktop Environment where as zorin is a complete package. And the only distros that officially support KDE out of the box are kde neon and opensuse. KdeNeon is very unstable and opensuse is aimed at system Administrators. Well there are distros like Arch (which I use Btw) and gentoo that provide vanilla KDE but again its aimed towards power users. Finally I'm not here to diss any distro or DEs. I've been personally using Arch with KDE for serveral years and just becoz it works flawlessly for me it doesn't mean everybody else has the time or motivation to put in the effort to tweak these for their usage.

It’s by far the most professional looking distro you can find. Much more polished and modern looking than Linux Mint which is frankly quite ugly. It even has a lite version if you have an old or cheap PC that’ll run on XFCE
Molags Balls Most think Mint Cinnamon looks very clean but what matters more is how stable, how usable, what features a distro has, and how easily you can get questions answered. In all those ways Mint crushes Zorin. You can also make Mint look almost exactly like Zorin if you want to. The Mint team spends their time on the stuff below the surface and trying to avoid needing the command line. Zorin, OTOH, seems to spend most of their time on multiple desktops and aesthetic stuff that doesn’t help it function any better. If you put a new paint job on a 10 year old car it’s still a 10 year old car underneath.
I'm sorry if you've been living under a rock or something but you can remove the telemetry during installation or by running 'sudo apt-get remove zorin-os-census' lol.

Would you help me with my labtop it's bios is UEFI couldn't install Zorin or any Linux distro's on it, i would be very thankful for that.
You would need to disable UEFI boot from the BIOS of your PC. Or completely removemos the hard drive and replace with one that has linux already installed
Xubuntu did install on ASUS with UEFI .Most OS with XFCE should work.
I heard so many good things about Elementary OS, but after hearing about Zorin in today's video, I am confused about which one is better in business productivity. Can you give me some pointers about the real difference between Zorin OS & Elementary OS.
@Joy Bhowmik well only in the UI because the way they work are completely different from Windows and macOS.

Greetings! I watch the channel and visited the thought that there is a lack of review and feedback about Linux on chrome os. I recently put it on my laptop and was pleasantly surprised. What do you say to the audience from Russia? =)
Why the heck do you have LinuxFX linked in the description? That distro is way more invasive than Windows 11! That distro makes you pay for a license, and it breaks many GPL rules! It also had a terrible data breach!
Touchpad gestures are now supported out of the box on Wayland. Thanks for the great video though!
i removed Solus from my laptop yesterday and reinstalled Windows 10 because i couldn't figure out how to get NordVPN to work...and i have a business trip coming up. i've been distro hopping for years and i always end up returning to Windows for some reason or another. it's lame, i want to love linux but i keep finding reasons to leave it.
It works fine in every ubuntu based distro and i am 99% sure ot works on Debian too. Before some years i tried to install it in manjaro but i couldn't install its official cli app. But i managed to install by open vpn . Probably this prob now is already fixed on manjaro.
Thank you for making this video. As a newcomer to the Linux ecosystem, I need a little bit of hand-holding to be able to do things.
In the terminal, did you press enter after typing 'Y' because when I do so, it aborts whatever I was doing.
Yes you press enter after typing Y what you can also do is write it this way
Sudo apt install vlc && y
Which version of zorin do you recommend? Running core i5 6200u,8gb. Gread vid btw!
You may use the free version to test out zorin and if you liked it you may choose to pay for the ultimate version to appreciate the developers for the hardwork they put into it.
Don't pick this crap zorin ..Look at lots of othe beautiful alternatives options out there.. once u picked this crap.. you will regeret in future 🙄🙄
@@Luckys88 What distro do you recommend to try?
@@arvindhn036 ok thank you for your answer!
Zorin isn’t crap, it’s great. I made a video comparing all the editions
I used Zorin OS for some time, but it wasn't for me. Now using Manjaro with KDE and lovin' it
i love what you do bro ;;;;and your voice sounds good not like some as if they make a hole into my head with just their voice
This Zorin OS application menu reminds me of the windows 7 menu.
I am, in fact, using my Dell Inspiron 15-5548 5th Gen (2 cores/4 threads) laptop w 16GB RAM & 1TB Sata2/3 SSD w ZorinOS 16.2 Pro to write this comment to all of you!
is it good for low end pc

Why zorin? Pop+dash to panel(if you are stuck up on having a taskbar)is way better
What are you talking about? Fundamentally they're the exact same thing.
@@LoganT547 not rwally. Under to hood optimisation takes place in pop. Why else do you think some distros run smoother than others with the same desktop environment
Imho not being able to integrate Google Drive is a good thing. Like how Rob Braxman says he wishes Instagram didn't work on a de-googled ROM.
Been using MINT for awhile, but Zorin looks a lot nicer.
Feren OS does well in simulating other desktops using KDE, it's easier to switch from windows or mac
I would still say gnome is better for those switching from mac but agreed kde is much better for windows 10 users. And if one definitely wants a gnome experience, zorin is a very bad choice. Something pop!_os is a way better os
Everything was going great,....until you got to snaps. I mean..I get it and I understand some might like this? But why download something that points to something you're going to DOWNLOAD!?....when you can just down load the app, along with dependencies and be done with it? Seems to me that snaps are a bother I needn't concern my self with.
Because having the developer package all of it in a single package ensures that it will always work without extra tinkering and extra downloads.

There really isn't one. But it is possible to use a webapp for that.

It's the LTS kernel.
Hi mr packer, hope you are doing well. We miss you at school.

Zorin os is not stable, creating issues with camera
Thanks!!!!!
@@shrivigneshsenthilkumar9349 Close! lol
@@dragonballjiujitsu probably
this video is cool and all but i dont think that you understand the main reason for using/dual booting windows. it’s because of programs that aren’t available on linux. if it weren’t for that i would’ve transitioned a million years ago
What's the Core version for then? If you had the Ultimate version initially you could just note down the "premium" repos and add them to Core.
@@LoganT547 certainly I can, but will every Window's convert be able to, especially considering that's Zorin's target market
@@will00451 well I mean, perhaps someone already has, I don't know.
Windows 10 strength: it's Windows 10, you know what you get
Windows 10 weakness: it's Windows 10, you know what you get

oh another vpn sponsor, thanks a fucking bunch.
Yes I was talking at the job with a coworker and told him while installing Linux in a Notebook for someone who only knows Windows:
"The best distro to install for new users is Linux Mint Cinnamon, no matter what, there are many other good out there, but Mint is the ONE TO GO for new users"
The only thing windows has ever done well for me is give me a free day away from my PC whenever there's an update 😂
Please Linux gets updates every 10 minutes especially if your update manager is set to Developer Mode

What does pop os have to do with a windows 10 lookalike

AtmoStorm Fr But it’s a paid distro that Mr Galactic is likely also being paid to promote while destroying his own credibility.
Shared Knowledge I do like mint but I'm just a big fan of GNOME
