When you put 500 kg of weight in boot and add 5 people in car the milege will drop in petrol car also. People paying 20 lakhs for hybrid won't be living a van life to carry so much luggage all the time ..once in a while when going for a trip they will have the issue. These cars are not meant for that purposes alone

One solution to this problem would be to give the back of the hybrid a coupe like shape to increase the height of the boot. That will leave enough space even after accounting for the battery at the back.

This is not biggest negative. It is a negative but very much manageable. The mileage you get from hybrid also covers up for this negative plus the luggage that can be stuffed in hybrid is sufficient for the passengers that this car can carry! So all in all this is actually a smallest negative!
Just tell me, that if you are going to a holiday of 7-10days( this is the maximum off you get from your employer) , how many dresses do you need in this 7-10days holiday for your 4-5 member family??..
To get more mileage, u pay extra money and buy hybrid car but yo recover that additional 4-5 lacs of breakeven, you gotto drive for more than 5-6 years. If u have frequent travel then go for hybrid. For city drive like Pune Bangalore Mumbai we need mileage.
That not a major downside . Major downside is these cars spare parts only available in showrooms and 1.5x expensive than a normal car and no one from outside mechanic cant fix them . I live here in dubai and buy once corolla hybrid get millage like 15-16 and company claimed 25 . its ok over that but major problem is that i stil have to service it in dealer coz outside parts and hybrid mechanics are that much and company service and parts are expensive. So only for small city usage hybrid are ok but highway i suggest a normal car .
Still better than Tata and Mahindra EVs range anxiety. Hybrid sedans are less flexible compared to SUVs where luggage can be adjusted by removing the parcel tray. Choosing a hybrid over EV is overall a better peace of mind. Wonder why Indian brands are adament on not accepting this technology where the power generation in the country is still happening through coal. With EVs, the pollution is just getting transferred and not reduced. Also EVs are just like mobile phones. Imagine resale value after few years when everyone knows battery deteriorates over time. Hybrids actually reduce it as it consumes less fuel overall. Just look at Toyota Maruti collaboration. They are working on series-hybrid technology. This is one step further over hyryder/GV hybrid which works on parallel hybrid technology.

One more drawback of Hybrid cars - if battery is down or low due to extreme cold weather, they won't start by pushing alike normal Fuel cars. Faced it on my hybrid MS Ciaz once or twice
