What is a hybrid in a car?
Hybrid electric vehicles are powered by an internal combustion engine and one or more electric motors, which uses energy stored in batteries. A hybrid electric vehicle cannot be plugged in to charge the battery. Instead, the battery is charged through regenerative braking and by the internal combustion engine.

But, it must be noted that average fuel consumption is improved because of regenerative charging only. If battery is charged from running engine then overall efficiency will decrease.

If charging is done on idling then it is, in true sense not idling condition. A load of charging power is on engine.

Regenerating braking nam Matra 0-5% hi kam karti h ...bus Hawa hwai h
In simple words, jab bhi car deaccelerate ho, and apne aap slow down ho (due to friction) bina brakes apply kare that means regenerative braking is taking place, rest is followed by energy conversion.
