Yeah, the MCC is more around combating China's influence in the region. GOB, besides taking this money they should ensure money is spent in areas that produce some type of multiplier effect. Otherwise, the grant becomes a drug and creates dependency on foreign investment. GOB should ensure a proper plan outlined in what is to be achieved with this investment. If a plan doesn't exist, then it'll fail. The GOB should also outline and identify how improvements is measured. Hopefully the GOB puts forth a public accessible plan on how the money will be used. If the MCC dictates how it'll be used with respect to energy and education that doesn't fit Belize, then it's not the type of investment Belize needs and should look to cancel.

One, it is perfectly fine to ask what strings are attached to a gift like this. Let everything be put in writing so it can be tracked over time. Be diligent, but don't be paranoid. Yes, the history is that the US exploited the hell out of smaller countries around the world. The US is one of the "empires" of the world (not the only one) and it has done some horrible things. But the US is more than its plutocracy. There is variety of opinion in the US about all kinds of things. This $250 million may simply mean that somebody in power in the US sees that Belize is geographically close and they want it to thrive. $250 million? It sounds like a lot, but that is not out of line with the standard US foreign aid. Just keep records and don't let it get drained off by any corrupt people. The saddest part is that both parties UDP & UDP when they are the opposition alwys have the best interest of the country and people at heart and priority. They alwys made a lot of sense as the opposition. The problem we have for years is that when they took over Government all thier brilliant ideas beliefs, love for the country and people becomes blur. That's the sad reality here. NICE SPEECH, but I'm really tired of the way our politicians leading us..

Belize should tell the usg to shove it. As an American, I know that money comes with compliance to whatever the bureaucrats want.
@@indepchic great comment....
@@WhereToNexxt It is a very serious situation for Belize imo. We are fleeing the policies they're exporting via usd.

Given the current status of US debt this is unbelievable. They view American citizens as a never ending spigot of money from local to federal level.
@@ljones98391 it just one of the many GIFTS given since I have lived here......
He is correct to ask what strings are attached. It seems random to suddenly want to "give" this kind of money. It may be worth taking it but we are not getting the whole pucture. As a US taxpayer, and my country 30+ trillion in debt, i wonder how we can afford it. I love Belize, so if it is coming, i hope it is used for much good
Send it back. Belize can do without it!!
They find out what stipulation first before take in it
Valid questions - what is the US agenda?
A gift to the government not to the people of Belize, and as you may know that money is going to come back to the United States with interest
GREAT COMMENT.......
crazy. last time I was in BZ we went to San Ignacio and stayed at Kaana. Not big on bougie hotels but got heavy discounts from my credit card. That was back in may. Most of the time we fly in and go straight to PG. Always have to go to PG to take care of things. Love Cayo district. Had to stay in Belmopan a couple of times for business but thats not really Cayo; just in the district.
Fly in means the city; then rent a car and drive down.
@blakashade1 yes Belize is growing fast. Thanks for watching the video 😁
I trust that the money will be used for the development of the nation.

Hard to pay attn. to the vid. with all those beautiful Dr. birds in the back round. When I go to Belize I stay in PG and the property owner has a tree where they pretty much live. I told my contractor I need one of those trees.
We spent a lot of time in PG it is beautiful, we came close to buying land close by before we found our spot in Cayo

Every time efforts at getting progress is made people that have failed our nation will try to justify there bad back deeds by spewing more of what forked tongues do best ... There will be desenting voices of whuch we must be warry of also ...blessings and may good senses prevail ...
The money is an incentive for the Belizean government to keep track on expats and report back. Just my opinion based upon previous experience.
(edit: I'd like to add this - look at every country who turned down money from either the US or the IMF... their economy was worse due to retaliation for not accepting the funds.)
Great point.... thankyou for watching and leaving a comment. 😁😁
I agree with you on that as well. To many have a monoply on stores here and until that changes Belize will stay the same but just another case of being paid to keep the mouth shut and look away... Thanks for watching...
The money is most likely intended for some other purpose. They announced that they will spend it on education which I believe is b.s.
@@Digicam-gy9kx Yeah. From the sounds of it, the MCC will be running the show. Basically they'll establish a Millennium Challenge Account-Belize entity which will provide oversight of projects funded. I know Belize has an issue with keeping their talented youth. Thus, even if education is improved, if no new opportunities are introduced brain-drain will continue to occur.

I am here in the US, interested in Belize as a possible retirement location. (Not sure yet, just looking around.) I would only say two thing about this video. That happens even with domestic spending in the US!
@@bartstewart8644 Great comment, I too feel it is fine to ask questions if you are an American or a Belezian. I'm hopeful that every cent will be used for the good of Belize and the people including expacts who call Belize home. I found it interesting that I couldn't find anything about this money on the American side or I didn't look hard enough.
