- Will Mitchell sits down with the Belize tourism board to discuss the changes to retirement and immigration laws. With major updates coming to the qualified retired persons program and other unique policy changes this is an exciting announcement for anyone who is looking at moving to the country of Belize.

My father, Ruben Ricketts, left his home in Belize, 1940s, and emigrated to Edinburgh, Scotland. He was among the men who were invited to go the UK by the UK government to take up employment and fill the job vacancies after WWII ended. He married my Mum, a Scottish lady, and together, they had four children, of which I am one.

It’s so important for any investment especially by the government to make things happen vs. letting it happen. The momentum and trajectory is there. Keep up the exciting changes, growing at a planned , well thought out growth rate.

Great video Will! Glad to see Belize progressing in a very positive way. It's nice to hear that with the amendments to the QRP that retirees can now find employment - at least for part time. I just hope that this doesn't take away employment opportunities for local residents. However, seeing how fast Ambergris Caye is growing this shouldn't be an issue. My fear for the island is that it will get too overpopulated and be like Aruba or other like islands. I know last time I visited one of our dive guides stated they keep raising the number of floors that a building/hotel can be. One thing I fell in love with Ambergris Caye is that it wasn't overpopulated and still had that small island culture. I hope that greed doesn't go too far and turns this beautiful island into a commercialized location....if you know what I mean :). Guess we will have to hope for the best!

Are there links or a direct line for the digital nomad visa information? Everyone I speak to doesn't know the exact process or whom to contact. No information online either

What specifically must be the source of regular income that a Canadian or American retiree can show to obtain the QRP residency, and what is required to keep the residency active, including living in the country? As an alternative, can a snowbird easily find a place to live for a few months a year, especially in the San Pedro region?

How does the program calculate the 90 days non- consecutive days in Belize per year for QRP? Say 1 month 3 times a year?
WIll, Could you ask the BTB if they'd consider adding boat/water vessel to the exemption list. I mean, they have aircraft :).
The video mentions "vehicle, vessel and aircraft".
So with the QRP, Social Security benefits are not taxed in Belize?

Im a dual citizen looking to move back to belize. My wife is retired but only 33 years old. We have property in Hopkins and plan on buying more. And advice to get any tax exemption. Our 2 vehicles and everything else is going to be the biggest expense
Not sure if this would be the best path on that. You would likely have to pay duties if you don't qualify for this program unfortunately. I would personally sell as much as possible then purchase in Belize but it really depends on the items as most everything is taxed at different rates.

Thats the only thing i don’t like. I’m planning my move. I’m not the qualifying age. But I can do the nomad program. I just don’t care for the $100 a month usd fee. Nor do I like that I can’t work while I am there. Because I wanted to develop a program at a highschool I had in mind
I was looking into the nomad program, but it sounds like you’re kicked out after 6 months. Can we not stay longer and extend it? I could be wrong, but that’s how I understood it.
@@meginbelize I’m not sure. I know if you don’t do the nomad program you still have to pay the fee every month. But I’m not sure if it’s a time limit on the stay. But I also wonder if you leave cross boarders. Then just come back does that count as leaving or do you physically have to fly out.

No capital gains tax, no estate tax very low property tax amongst other great incentives. With residency can get your bank account set up.

Great News....glad to see Belize "morphing" ...I personally would like to see a "citizenship by Investment" offer...set the bar high...at least US$5 Million to participate...these funds could certainly assist in the capital requirements for National Infrastructure. Will, would you please pass this thought to the appropriate individual...
that kind of pricing would cause the program to fail in the first year. CBI programs are extremely competitive
Just make the effort to inform the Belizean government that there is viability in a CBI program...that's all I am asking...perhaps the US$5 Million is too high...but at the moment there is no CBI for Belize...
Hopefully one day we can have a program like that! Would love to see it
