    I enjoy your videos. And I love the looks of a shaved goat. Last year, I brushed all my goats winter coats out in the spring. This year...I think I'll shave them!

    I really have enjoyed all the videos I've seen of yours! I am shaving my goats for practice. I want to show them, but not this year. I am nervous. Lol.

    When I put one of my Nigerian dwarf goats in the milking stand he screams like he's being tortured! Any suggestions to call him? Treats and feed didn't help

      Some just take time to adjust! Bucks are much bigger stinkers about it too. They are to "manly" to be restrained haha. Just time and patients will get them comfortable with it. Also, our bucks are very rarely in the stand. They only get put in the stand to get their shots, copper, hooves trimmed, etc. Where as my milkers (does) know they are going to get a treat every time and simply get milked. So it is easier for the does to get comfortable to jump on the stand.

    This answered the questions I asked on another video. Please explained the different classes you show your goats in. How that brings value to the goats and do you show the bucks. In horses we show our foals beside the sires 3 and the sire wins the class based on his get. Do you have a class for the bucks.

    Can ask where you got the holding stand?

    • @BlueCactusDairyGoats
      @BlueCactusDairyGoats  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      MrScallop1 I believe it was Ozark Trail. Goodlettsville Ozark milk stands and they will probably come up. I love it! Breaks down flat so easy to transport to shows also.

    I have a question not sure if you would be bale to tell me what to do but I thought I would try. I have been breeding my Pygmy goat's for dairy from the foundation line's and I seem to be doing well in are 4H show's, but I am still am not sure if I should trim them to there breed's standard or the dairy shave? I thought I would ask and see what you had to say about it.

    • @BlueCactusDairyGoats
      @BlueCactusDairyGoats  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would think for a pygmy show, you should give them their breed standard shave. There are different shaves to enhance the qualities the judge will be looking for, in different breeds. My thought on it anyway :)

    I like you're using a doe that's not super cooperative during the head!

    Do you just shave them for shows or all the time?? Do you or can you use the goat hair for something???

      They usually shave in the spring/ summer for shows and to cool them down in the heat but you can shave them as you please :)

    How much clipping do you need to do on pygmy goat

    • @BlueCactusDairyGoats
      @BlueCactusDairyGoats  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It would be the same clip I believe. Not 100% sure on that one. If it wasn't for show I would do the same as a nigi. If it's for show you may want to double check with someone who shows pygmy goats :)

    How many days or weeks do you do this shave before a show?

    • @BlueCactusDairyGoats
      @BlueCactusDairyGoats  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you use a #10 2 weeks before show. If you use a #4 a few days. I dont recommend the #10 though because it's so short and they get sun burnt sometimes.

  • @MrVailtown
    @MrVailtown 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Would you still clip even if you didn't show ?

    • @BlueCactusDairyGoats
      @BlueCactusDairyGoats  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would. There is a lot hiding under that hair that is hard to see. It really helps to see the animal know where the improvements are needed go help in breeding plans.

    • @BlueCactusDairyGoats
      @BlueCactusDairyGoats  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes!! But only if you shave their hair too short. Which I don't. Goats love to sun bathe.. even if its 110 out. Weirdos!

    Why are goat's shaved for show?

    • @BlueCactusDairyGoats
      @BlueCactusDairyGoats  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Goats shows are to anyze their conformation of the body. Hard to see a well put together goat with all the hair on them :)

    I hate how I had a beautiful red goat and when I shaved her it looked like tan.

      Animalsforever31 I have a doe that is cream colored. When I shaved her she was a buckskin. I was a little shocked. I love the buckskin though so I wasn't upset :)
