Teddy, as a change of pace, consider making a video with a few popular and versatile watches (like Omega Seamaster Pro 300m) showcasing the difference changing straps can make to the appearance for different uses.
Dressing up and dressing down. Bracelet, rubber, leather, canvas, nato, vintage leather and fabrics. That kind of thing.
This would be a welcome change to most TH-cam watch content that just encourages viewers to buy more and more watches.

I got me a Timex a few years ago. Cost about $40. It's my one-and-done because I live in the middle of Maine and our fancy clothes are flannel shirts without holes in them. My Timex had a date window on it, that's pretty baller around here. I'd say it was worth the money. 🧐

If this is the "1 and done", why is power reserve so important? I think we put too much emphasis on power reserve. We were all happy with 40 hours, then 70 came along. And soon that won't be enough. We are a very picky bunch.

    • @eyeheartsushi2212
      @eyeheartsushi2212 ปีที่แล้ว +6

Agreed! I remember asking about a discount on a Tudor Black Bay (in-house movement) at an AD a few years ago. AD said no discounts but they were gifting a watch winder. Why bother with a watch winder for a watch with a 70hr power reserve? 😂😂😂😂

    • @tonyl7000

Most watches' accuracy decrease as the power reserve runs low. Why do we want cars that can go super fast if most of us won't ever use that speed? It's nice to know that it can.

My take on this: GMT Watches are the best daily wear/one and done watches. Just got my second GMT in (the Traska venturer GMT) and I don’t think you can beat it for let’s say 2500$. First of all it costs around 700$ has a travellers gmt function. Perfect sizing (38,5mm diameter/46mm lug to lug I think/ 20mm lug size so it would fit all of you favourite straps)! The bracelet is better than the one on my BB58 in my opinion and I has the hardness coating so it won’t scratch easily. Drilled lugs. 4Hz movement. And it’s Thinnnnn.
This watch is actually incredible and I feel like even Christopher ward doesn’t stand a chance against the value of this one…. Change my mind:)

I have the globemaster in silver dial with steel bracelet. I bought separately the leather strap. My favorite watch by far, like it more than my Submariner Date and my Cartier Santos.
Whenever I take out my watch tools and change strap to bracelet or viceversa, I enjoy those couple of minutes like nothing else. Much more than just those quick release systems.
Perfect size, looks right in every situation, wearing joggers, jeans and t shirts of my humble company, a polo, shirt, sweater , of any color , but like it specifically the most wearing black or gray specially on the strap.
And that applied star and Omega logo with the Globemaster lettering, wow.

I have always thought and still do, that my 2014 39mm Explorer is the perfect all around watch. However, I recently picked up the Longines Spirit Zulu Time(green bezel)and think it is close. If you swap out the strap for their bracelet it dresses up nicely and the beauty is it all quick release. Takes under a minute. Happy you included the Bathyscaphe in your video. Another great watch you can wear in the boardroom or the clubhouse.

I purchased my Tudor Ranger last month for this very reason. One watch for any/every day for the long haul. Do I want other watches? Sure. But this watch keeps me extremely satisfied. I love this as a tool watch that wasn't crazy expensive, rugged, great movement. Plus I like the bracelet better than other Tudors. Highly recommend. Plus no photos do it justice. Wear one before you judge!

Hi @GianVisciano. 🎉congrats! I also have the Ranger, I went with the rubber strap although the bracelet was also available. I have a question regarding the accuracy, my watch goes fast everyday a sec or two… in a few days it will be 15-20secs or more faster. I tried to rest it at night or day crown down or up or crystal down or up it doesnt slow the seconds.
How is your accuracy? I have this also for a month and I dont want to bring it in yet for service or to check… it might be break-in period? Please let me know. Thank you in advance.
      Cheers giuseppe

A white/silver Aqua Terra in 38.5mm, the OP 39 in blue and a very spectacular yet underrated Tudor Style in 38mm with a black dial on stainless steel. By the way this Tudor is the most underrated watch in the whole watch game, however it is maybe the most elegant and affordable Tudor.

Earlier in my collection journey these type of watches were so much to my taste. But I had to learn that this versatility leads to almost never wearing them and choosing something more specific to the occasion each time instead. While I would still recommend these watches to people who aren't into watches, I slowly sold all of them from my collection. (and kept a proper dress watch, a proper sporty watch, 1 or 2 in between, and a tool watch).

I feel with Rolex it should be the Datejust. Not every all purpose watch needs to be so in the middle. The DJ has long been that only watch for many people for years. It can be very dressy but also be used in jeans and a t shirt even on the jubilee with fluted. It has proven to be the most universal watch in actual practice.

A 'one and done bottom line?' No matter how many watch styles and manufacturers I look at, it always seems to come back to Grand Seiko. Gorgeous faces, impeccable craftsmanship, horology certifications, top-shelf specifications and above all else, surprisingly modest prices for what is in the the box.
Sure, you might scoff at spending $6,700 for a snow-white GS, when an iconic Rolex is similarly priced and has awesome street cred. But ... its not a GS. Hibeat or Spring ... GS blows the Rolex away.
Then when it comes to sharply comparing your $6,700 GS with virtually every other brand (shown here)from $3,000 to $12,000 well ... again ... GS has the chops. Though I continue to watch Dr. Baldassare's videos every week, I've pretty much put on my 'second-and-below' list all of the non Grand Seiko's. If I were buying a watch for an awfully good friend and/or business partner // or // esteemed relative, it'd be a GS. And, when I talk up watches with anyone remotely interested, I say exactly the same.
Lastly, one of my uncles' friends accidentally included a GS/spring drive bought 15 years back in his weekly wash. Heavy duty cycle. And into the clothes dryer it went. 2 hour cycle. My uncle is nearly deaf, so couldn't hear the clanging of that poor watch. Anyway, took out the clothes and was surprised-and-saddened to see his watch in the bottom. Guess what ... still the second-hand was spinning its usual smooth-as-glass orbit about the dial. The watch hadn't lost or gained more than a couple seconds of time. The case was almost unmarred, but had annoying edges-scratches all about. His jeweler carefully fixed those up. Last I heard, he's still wearing it, and its still keeping outrageously accurate time, blemishes and all. I doubt any other maker's watch might serendipitously have survived as well.
    GS. The one-and-done.

I think you overlooked a diver that would be a perfect all around watch. The Breitling Superocean Heritage B20 line. They come in 46, 44, and 42 mm, and a few different dial colors. They are not so diver specific either and would look great with a t-shirt or a suit.

    • @BadGuyDennis

I have a B01 chronograph in blue. And I believe if I could only have one watch, this is the one. This is a very practical watch with more than adequate water resistant; accurate, reliable and dependable chronograph function caliber. Aesthetically it is a diver inspired watch but with some elegant treatment also give you some dress watch theme in return. Especially with the blue rubber strap that come along with, paired with a formal suit, especially in blue, is a surpricingly perfect match. Yet it is a sport watch, paired with denim also works well. This is a watch that almost fulfill everything I want. (If there is a pulsometer and a 18k rose gold bezel, that would be absolutely perfect for me.)

People outside of the watch community know Rolex, but they have no idea about other brands! That can be a huge advantage b/c nobody is going to rip your arm off to get your Omega 300m in the way they might with a Rolex Sub. And Omega makes fantastic luxury watches!

My favorite out of all of these is the a lange odysseus; I would probably get the titanium one if I had the money. The Grand Seiko or the Nomos are my 2nd favorites out of this list. Blancpain is great too and the Fifty fathoms is pretty iconic but I am not a big dive watch guy; I also wish the bathyscape came with a bracelet (I have an older Leman Dual timer which I wear practically every day). Btw, I wonder if you have plans to do a review of the Zenith defy revivals that just came out recently... I like the skyline and the original as well as the other variations (specifically the all ceramic El Primero skeleton defy) but the revival is really cool. The only thing that stops me from buying one is that I am not sure how good is bracelet is and whether or not it has half links or a quick release (I also currently own a Capitan Elite dual timer which also features a similar elite movement). I am surprised you didn't put any Cartier on here; their watches are a revelation when you do get into them. Also the prasha is a fantastic little watch; its even a genta design like the AP royal oak or the Patek Nautilus.

One and Done, that's a hard one. For the real world where I could afford one of these, I love the Longines Zulu Time, great for both casual and a bit dressy (Longines has quite a few watches that I'd consider as a one-and-done watch that doesn't break the bank), . The Baume & Mercier would be great if about a 38mm or 40mm, a beautiful design. The Grand Seiko (this one or any one) would be on the high end of my list. So would the Omega Globemaster if I were especially flushed with cash at some point. Now, the dream watch, where money is no object and having a single watch is probably unthinkable: either the VC Overseas (a real beauty, and I particularly love the bracelet), or the Patek Aquanaut (I find it oddly appealing, though I'd probably go with the VC. This Patek is kind of understated, which can be a good thing). Teddy, you really make it hard to choose just one in these reviews.

The Ranger may need to be discontinued before the watch community appreciates it, but it truly is an "ultimate watch" for versatility, practicality, availability, and value.

Great video again, but am I the only one that thinks the finishing on the Patek is hugely inferior to the VC, also for £33,000 only 50m water resistance on the AP??
The Vacheron in my opinion is the ultimate grail brand 🤷🏻‍♂️

agreed completely! patek Nautilus as well as the one shown here look SOO Plain .. looks likes a $50 watch .. the VC on the other hand as well as the Lange ... those are beautiful watches!

Teddy, thank you for another great video. I was looking for my first GS to mark giving my daughter away this June (I love my MarineMaster btw). Wearing a medium blue custom suit and was at my local AD. Initially drawn to the SBGA375 and that deep blue dial, spring drive and 44GS case. But then he showed me the SBGH295. That dial is spectacular. The 62 GS wears a bit smaller on my 6.5 wrist. I am looking to the Jedi Master of Horology, Teddy B for advice.

I admit it's my personal taste but I think that a ''do it all'' watch should come on a braclet rather than a strap. It's true that you can always make a swap but it requires and extra manipulation which shouldn't be necessary.

Nah. In my life of 60 years without actually actively looking at watches I’d accumulated 27 watches, many of which were my one watch for several years. Now, less than one year on and after putting some time into watches I’m getting close to three times that number. Even with. Luxury watch, I’m not sure one luxury watch could cover it all.

Glad you included the Nomos Club Sport, although for the money I would go with the 42 with date and 300 w/r. If we’re talking one watch that does it all, might as well have a date. If money is no object, the Odysseus is top shelf.

For the money, the new Ranger is hard to beat for the one watch collection. I was on the list for a Pelagos 39. When it came in, I tried it on, and it was too similar to my sub. I saw the Ranger in the case and tried it on, I was sold. The Ranger in person is really a great everyday watch.

Fantastic video, and I'm sure we all here have our favorites. In this day and age of throw-away items, it gives me great pleasure to wear my Rolex Explorer II (Calibre 3285) day after day and witness its shear perfection with regard to stability, robustness and astonishing accuracy. It's been literally running now for several years and is within a few seconds of UTC. The white dial and black hands provide one of the most easy-to-read dials, IMHO. Truly my personal "One And Done" watch - I'm confident it will be running a hundred years from now without fail.

It makes no sense to say " stay patient" The AD will either sell it to you ( if you spend tons on their junk) or you will not qualify and never get a watch. There is no Rolex waiting list. If you don't get a call in a month - you never going to get a call. Dealers would rather sell it out the back door than sell it to you as they can pocket the extra money.
