  • I love the Friday Pattern Co sewing patterns. There is no doubt about that. When I saw the release of the Donny Shirt I thought that I would pass on it. After seeing so many cute versions I decided to give it a try! I thought I wouldn't, but I sewed it, I wore it, and I love it!
    I used a Dashwood Studio Cotton Poplin called Hello Velo that you can find here www.minerva.co... . I added three inches in length to the top and this is my latest addition to my me made summer capsule wardrobe. The colors are perfect for my Calm Autumn coloring.

    I haven’t seen the Donny made up in such lovely fabric, most are plain fabric. I love your version of it. I’ll be lengthening mine too so it’s less boxy on my "mature" figure. Thanks for sharing. 🌹❤️

    I think we need more witty labels for our significant others. So funny!

    I have sewed approximately a dozen things since the beginning of the year and the Donnie shirt is my absolute favorite. It was easy to sew and looks fantastic on. Very flattering and I used a beautiful quilting cotton. I will definitely make this one again!

      Thanks Jen. Talking with Michelle sure helped for knowing how much length to add. I was rewarded for my laziness in waiting for the pattern to arrive from the printer as Michelle had nearly completed her second one by the time my pattern showed up so I got to benefit from her experience!

    Your fabric choice nailed it! No old lady vibe at all - a real worry for many of us! Particularly when I am quite old! hahah

      What fabric are you using? I think my next one will be in a little lighter weight fabric. Not that I have any regrets using the fab poplin in my first!

    I have made the Donny four times now, three times in a cotton and once in viscose. I prefer the viscose with the drape. I also added Length, I am only 5’1” but do not like the cropped look on me. I love your fabric choice and like the finished garment on you.

    • @ChristineSewsALot

      Thank you! I love The Friday Pattern Co patterns 💕💕💕Have you seen Michelle’s review from @MichelleSewsAgain? It is super helpful. I really enjoyed the sew and did not mind going slow because I set out with the intention of being slow and just enjoying sewing.

      When this was first released I thought hard pass. I saw so many nice ones and thought I would give it a try not expecting much. It was definitely an exercise in trying something I did not think would work and being rewarded by loving it.

    I just sewed this up yesterday with the same thoughts! I made my hem same as yours. Slow sewing is the ways to go especially around that front facing. I accidentally interfaced both collar pieces, but my collar is amazingly stiff and perfect.

    • @ChristineSewsALot
      @ChristineSewsALot  ปีที่แล้ว

      Gotta love an amazing collar! I don’t mind a slow sew when it has a purpose. I also don’t mind a slow sew when I am having fun n sewing the pattern. I still want to make the Donny dress hack.

      It is such a wearable shirt! If I had used wider non-directional fabric I could have got it out of less fabric. I think I would love a linen blend version.

      It is not too tricky Zelda. I did not know what I was ‘supposed’ to be afraid of when I first started sewing and I was putting in collars and set in sleeves very early in my sewing.

      Thanks! I knew I would need to add length and thankfully Michelle was working on her first one before I cut my fabric or I would have been an inch shorter and not as happy with it. I do really like it!

  • @adriennefranklin5986
    @adriennefranklin5986 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks for posting. Love your Donny Top! I was also unsure about it and was wondering if I would need to do an FBA and add a dart. Did you find it too low cut?

    • @ChristineSewsALot
      @ChristineSewsALot  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I wish I had thought to mention the depth of neckline because that concerned me when I looked at the pattern. It is not too low. I do not show any cleavage. My plan when I thought about it too late in the sewing process was to ladder stitch it if I felt it was too low. No need to do it so all is good. I did not need a full bust adjustment. I have 2 inches of difference between upper and full bust. I do know that @michellesewsagain is doing an FBA on her next Donny.
