For the Davenport… I would remove the shoulder frills. They make the dress a but fussy - might be worth doing that? I’ve got two Davenport dresses, both with the shoulder frills, but both in a soft rayon so they fall well.

I have been having the same exact issue this year. I want to sew, but am not excited about sewing for myself because of my weight. It really started last year with all those failed wrap dress attempts and I haven't been able to shake it. It has really slowed down my productivity. I've moved on to other crafts for the time being. 🌸 I'm so jealous that you're going to Frocktails. I wish I was going! You are going to have so much fun!! 🌸 I love my Lodo! I need to make another 😊 🌸

Shame about the dress, I've made mistakes with the weight of linen before. You think it will be ok but as a full garment it doesn't work out 😢 Love that sweater on you and the Ponte dress. Ponte is such a great fabric to sew isn't it ❤. Have fun at Frocktails and give Izzy a hug from me x

Christine I think the linen dress looks good on you. If you think it's a bit too fussy for you , you could remove the ruffle on the shoulder and that would be better.

i bought the davenport a few years ago and have since concluded that it's not my style at all and i wouldn't like wearing it. so you're not alone! i think we all have to make mistakes like that. it's part of the learning process--sometimes you don't know until you try.

Your sweatshirt is great, and such a good colour on you! Also I wonder if you just wait a month or two, and try the dress on later, it is so pretty... maybe it would feel right . I actually took a top out of the 'cut up for parts' bin, and just tested it before cutting of sleeves etc.. and loved it! Sometimes it isn't what we envision so we are disappointed., but looks lovely once we lose our original expectations . Anyway, it is gorgeous !

Christine, I totally get re being obsessed with something that is not your style. I learned that anything that has ruffles is not for me. But it's great that you got that dress out of your system. Otherwise, it would hunt you. I can't wait to see what you are planning to make in future

I want to say the Davenport you made is gorgeous and looks great on you! But I do love that dress. I made two for myself and have another one cut out. I made one in cotton and one in linen. The one that is cut out is in rayon. I have been stuck on this 3rd one because I don’t like the fabric much so am not feeling motivated to finish it. But, I actually wear the two I made all the time. I understand about making things you want to wear. I’ve made many a thing that stays in my closet or that I end up giving away because it just wasn’t my style.

That dress will be perfect for Frocktails, plus you look fabulous and feel fabulous in it! Why give yourself the pressure of making a new dress or worrying about what to wear there. You definitely deserve some sewing time for yourself! You are so right that the gifts will be appreciated whenever they are received. I've noticed that with my niece--whenever i make her something and send it just because, she almost seems to appreciate it more because she knows i was thinking of her and not doing it out of obligation.

Fabulous plan Christine. I totally get the unexpected weight loss. Early perimenapause is kicking my butt in this area. But there is nothing I can do about it except for working out and eating healthy. I love your plans. Everyone will be so nice and cosy

Yes, that stress is self-induced because we want to do things - all of them! I'm slow at sewing and also don't have enough time to sew right now, so that can make me unhappy. The Myosotis dress is so pretty on you, and now you can relax and do other things. Love that French terry! Same thing with the heat - my husband takes blood thinners and is now the one who is cold - a complete reversal for us.

I think sometimes I am my own worst enemy. I take on too much and don't leave time for what I want to sew. I'm trying to put in some fun sewing time for me in between the not so fun projects. It helps!

The Southbank and the red sweater look GREAT together. Glad you are allowing yourself some Grace with sewing “all the things”. Its supposed to be fun! Pressure ruins that fun. You will look beautiful at Frocktails!!❤

Marianne requested a navy suit for work and she asked if I could use ponte again because it’s so comfy to wear. The Southbank Sweater dress is going to be stunning in the French Terry!! Minerva, Minerva, Minerva, just had to do that. Sometimes we create our own stress,and have to step back from it. The dresses you are taking with you to Charlotte are all wonderful. Loved you showing all the fabrics and i can see they all are perfect colors for you.

Well I love it. It looks so comfy and actually it is flattering, especially for something so easy to wear. Can't believe you got all that out of one fabric. And now I'm off to Minerva - need some cotton (and I'll use the discount code). xoxoxox

I agree with Sara - Just pin the dress and see if it feels and fits better. I personally think it looks fine on you (I did notice the bust dart looked a tiny bit high. If you moved it down a bit on your pattern, the shaping would be at the perfect spot and might eliminate some of the volume you feel you have under the bust). I think you are absolutely right about focusing on the « real » fun of Frocktails, i.e. meeting friends. No one is going to notice you didn’t make a new dress (or care for that matter).
