The removable lens cover is major consideration. I keep a spare cover with my Action4 at all times, so that my project won't be interrupted.
you can replace the insta360 lens though. just buy the kit.
9:54 for the deactivated front screens, you can try to unlock the front screen to get it started. it supports single-screen view, if you need the front screen to be opened, then unlock it.
As action camera, the lense should be easy to change if it got damaged. Why you should waste you time to send it back to service center. For this Action 4 is a easy win 👍👍👍
Agree 100%. If you're on a vacation and this happens with the Ace Pro, you're SOL till you get home, mail your camera and wait a few weeks...no thanks.
you know they make protection cases for action cameras right... how often do you break your lens cover, cause i've never seen one needing to be replaced before.

good video, the flip screen looks great but I think will depend of your needs, I like the form factor of the action4 because is a tank! you know will resist everything, but having a flip screen will add some wekaness to the design, but as I say that will depend of the use, as a trail runner I don't need a flip screen, I need something that can resist the environment.

For action cam DJI is much compact ang look more durable. Ilike the flip screen on insta but me as a lazy vlogger ilike the build of AO4. And for long term use or extrem condition insta ace pro is not yet tested 😀

@@kllaskas810 gee, what a great camera. Always shutting off when it gets a little warm. Stops recording randomly. Even inoperable out of the box. People are leaving GoPro for a reason, it's junk and GoPro has crappy support.

i also found that the Screen Timeout and the Screen Clarity on Ace Pro are way worse than Action 4 or any action camera on the market. it looks like a gopro4 or 5 screen.. but none of you guys ever mentioned it. 😅

I've been stuck in an endless loop of choosing which camera to get and have been close to getting the Action 4, but I now feel I'm entering another loop of procrastination. I'm wanting to film some hiking, landscapes and maybe a timelapse or two. Really not sure which to go for now!
It is a bit of a luxury problem, I have seen many reviews and I think this summarizes strengths and weaknesses:
Acrion 4 pros vs Insta Ace Pro:
Interchangable lens (can attach filters etc, or swap lens if it gets scratched).
Longer battery life (about 15 min longer in 4k/60fps)
More "neutral" in colors
10 bit color space
Price (at last in Norway, you can get the adventure bundle with 3 batteries and a lot extras for less price than just the insta ace pro).
Ace pro pros vs Action 4:
Stabilization does seem much better
Better low light performance (ai does denoise and fixes video)
AI functions (might seem gimmicky for some)
Reportedly the editing app is good
Ace pro "other" stuff:
Tiltable screen might be good for some (like vlogging), as you can get down low and see on screen.
Titable screen might be bad for others (like mountainbiking)
Focus distance is said to be 40cm, but its really best suited at 60cm distance
USB-C port is not as capable as on Action 4 (for instance if you wish to use external mic)
The camera does seem to more quickly adapt to change in light levels (like driving inside a tunnel and comming to a tunnel opening).
Action 4 "other stuff":
Better usb port (can run mic on it directly)
Camera most likely better for enduro bicycling as there is no tiltable screen that can break off or get dirt in hinge, also replacable lens/filters means its easier to protect.
Comes with a "cage" that also does some protection.
I havent tested any of them, but for me it seems the Insta 360 might be better for someone not into extreme sports, and not someone who has to focus very nearly.
However if you like to use it for vacation, maybe gokarting, car driving, walking in the mountains and especially if you wish to edit and post from phone, without doing editing, it might draw a longer straw.
On the other hand, the Action 4 is more versatile if you need a rugged camera and a camera for more advanced use cases, also its easier to fit stuff like external mic directly to USB-C port.
I would say both cameras are great, but have their own quirks that make them better or worse for what you want to do.

no one talks about the down sampling from 8k to 4k, the results are over sharpen or overblown highlights, in addition insta ace pro has more pixels but they are smaller pixels then the dji.

Action 4 its a little better dimensions and maybe similar in low light in smooth conditions. But Ace Pro better in image quality.

Hi, both are fine for mtb - the stabilization will not be a problem. The Ace Pro has the advantage of the HDR Feature (no burnt out highlights when biking through a forest) - the Action 4 has the wider focal length, which is nice when mounted on a chest mount for POV

Great video! However, recently I have been stuck deciding between the Insta360 X3 and the DJI Osmo Action 4. They are both really great cameras but don't offer everything. The areas that one camera specializes in are a disadvantage for the other and vice versa. I like how the X3 provides ultimate versatility, an Apple watch app, GPS, and an amazing app but I am scared of getting it as I am going skiing and I have watched many videos that talk about how fragile the lenses are and how the protectors and guards ruins the image quality especially because I love the third person backpack mount. For the Action 4, I love its design, durability, and quality; everything about it is very good but I don't like how there is no app for the Apple watch that I could use as a remote control like the insta360 and GPS and speedometers can only be accessed using the GPS remote control unlike the X3(I might be wrong) which I cannot get as it does not ship to my country. Also, I heard and saw that it only exports in 1080p, now I don't know if this is correct but this would be a big factor for me as I really prefer the 4k quality export that insta360 X3 provides. Another thing is the field of view, it's great but not that wide especially to record my skiing experience through the mountains. I also had this concern about whether I could use the insta360 third-person backpack mount with the DJI Action 4 along with an adapter to fit the camera onto the mount but I am unsure if it will work. All in all, they are both really great cameras and for the price are really suitable (the Action 4 being a bit better as the adventure combo comes with 3 batteries and a selfie stick whereas the X3 comes with one battery that does not really have a long battery life which could be annoying for me when I am on the mountains and constantly returning to the resort between runs or charging it with a power bank) Could you please help me in choosing the best option for my situation and let me know if the third-person mount can be used with an adapter with the DJI Action 4 that is a great factor for me in deciding my camera for my upcoming trip? Thanks!

Hi, I used the backpack mount a lot and think it's not really suitable for the Action 4 - don't forget - with the Action 4 you will also see the small Pole wich is attached to the mount - and the distance between backpack and camera would not be big enough for the Action 4. The X3 has a significantly wider field of view. But, yes you can export X3 footage only in HD-Quality

Also for the quality of export, I was asking about the export quality of Action 4 and I thought that the X3 can export in 4k and 5k also. Edit: if in the end I decide to get the X3, would it be ok if I use the waterproof housing case from insta360 and use it for skiing in order to protect the lens (because I’m scared of shattering them)or will that make the quality worse or change something in the footage?
I think because the DJI has a log profile as well as 10-bit color should have definitely got a point against the Ace Pro in the color test since those are 2 big features to have and should have also been mentioned in the dynamic range test, and you should have given another point to DJI because its cheaper

The price of the Ace Pro is equivalent to the DJI Action 4 Adventure Combo, you have to buy the battery and other accessories separately

Some categories should carry more / less weight ... I would give a huge -10 for a non-replaceable lens for example.
Action 4 has the ability to add and remove filters which I do like the only thing I do like about the insta360 is pause during the video which they took away from the Pocket 3 for some reason or am I mistaken? The other question I have is "do you own either camera?" Ever decision in this world is done on some sort of bias. The camera I have in my hand is better than any camera on the market because that one I own. Thanks for posting...
all shots background looks much more detailed with action 4 against insta. Insta blurs all image details that are further than 50 meters.

I’m curious, Will the full sensor shooting mode allow for use of ND filters with post stabilizing in app? Can I then film with the 180 rule during the day without a gimbal? I see Insta360 has Nd filters on the website but I see NO ONE has posted using them.
I’d like to use nd filters at the motocross track for day time use with the 180 rule and not worry about a gimbal.

I saw your video comparison and it's very interesting. However, in almost all the shots I noticed better image definition on both the Osmo 4 and the Hero 12. Perhaps they have automatic sharpness enabled and it was disabled on the Ace Pro? Thank you
Yes! It seems like all the reviewers deliberately ignore Ace Pro image sharpness when comparing it to GoPro or Action 4. I don't get it.

It's possible - but only in an artificial way - there is an effect in the app but it doesn't look the same
I like the 360 but the lens is a deal ender, went through that with the Hero 8.

I need the 10 bit colour for underwater colour correction, Ace pro seems rather good tho. Log colour correction is king for me.
No you don't, the ace pro has a higher bitrate with HDR, so no issue with color correction, on paper it's even easier than DJI's 10bit
@@estebanod I do need 10 bit as I video underwater. 8 bit is a no go for underwater video, unless just a meter or so.

Do you mean whether you have to activate the camera, as with DJI? I don't think so, but I also used a pre-release version. However, you should update the camera via the app.
video quality is really flowless (with a bit on the warmer side tone ) but I still like wider view on DJI

Both of them are great for skiing - the Action 4 has the wider field of view, the Ace Pro the flip screen which ist great for filming yourself with a pole - and the HDR-Mode

HDR does not work in 60fps for Ace Pro... Please do a comparison in 60fps with 1/120 shutter speed using ND filters.

Hi, I personally think the main advantage of an action camera is that you can mount it anywhere, it is rugged and waterproof - and small and handy. So it is really well suited for travel. For photos I would prefer a bigger Sony. The Pocket 3 is the best solution for vlogging.

Not sponsored but a pre-release camera... Ace Pro screen resolution should also be mentioned, along with the potential breaking point of the screen hinge. And the lens being non-replaceable should have lost it a point.
Also, the camera doesn’t have the AI warp feature because the processor isn’t good enough and is entirely app based. You also have to pay for it after 3 months, but they dont put that in the ad

Battery run time 100 mins. In actual, if you use the flip screen/live view a lot, I'm pretty sure the run time will be much much lower.

yes
For me, HDR with only 8-bit color depth is pseudo HDR. Only 256 instead of 1024 brightness levels per color channel. No Smart TV switches to HDR mode.

no log, no 10bit, no RAW photo, if it had these two features I could take the higher price tag
Yes, unfortunately there is no 10bit or log - but there is a RAW mode for photos - by the way, the lens cover is now replaced free of charge in the first year if it is damaged.
Not being able to replace the lens cover is an instant no go to me. Especially knowing that the review units TH-camrs have received, DID have a removable lens cover!
This ALONE kills the entire system for anyone doing actual sports. I don't want to have to wait 2 weeks to have a bit of protective glass replaced. Does it even have 10 bit?

One thing I didn't like seeing is blue hue snow with the DJI. But on the other hand, I don't like orange faces. Ace pro had white snow and good looking blue sky. But that face didn't look right. They should come together and make a camera for a perfect one 😂
All cameras have variation in colour. hence colour grade when its important. Action 4 wins there as its 10 bit.

it seems to me that the Ace Pro is not so well suited for actiony situations. The flipping screen is all nice and handy until you mount the camera close to a helmet and then you can't flip it anymore. Or the fact that the remote has a touch screen and not solid buttons that can be pressed more easily in shaky situation or with a light glove. The lack of a replaceable lens cover would also point to the camera being intended for more casual use.
why would you need to flip the screen if it's mounted to your helmet... you can't do that on the dji or gopro either so how does that make it less actioney
and the lens can be replaced free, and either way when you do something that will damage your camera, you're supposed to put a case around it..
@@estebanod uhm ... to see and set settings without taking the camera off the helmet? on the osmo 4 you have a fully interactable front screen where you can do that. You might not need this feature but I do and a lot of other people who mount the camera close to the helmet.
See i find your face to be better looking when it's orangy, and i would've choosen that look while editing a video for a TH-cam channel so how to know which colour profile will majority of the people prefer? As my choice seems to be different than the majority and it'll effect the reach of the video too right?
Red faces are terrible and you will have worse coverage on Social M. So DJI did a better job here. For me, insta360 ace pro turns everything red, which disqualifies it. Today, such a defect is unacceptable.
$200 cheaper for the Action 4. Wipe the mud off with finger every 30 seconds, replace the lens every few weeks. Replace the camera when rocks smash it for a fraction of the cost with Dji care refresh. Dji looks better for my use.

There's no perfect action cam. Choose the one that meet your expectations or budget. Forget about Go Pro. Either Action 4 or Ace Pro, you won't go wrong. Action 4 adventure pack is value for money. If you are a vloger then Ace Pro will suit you more & have the budget.

If the DJI had 20 mega pixels it would probably be likely be the best choice of action cameras. The 5 is rumored to be 12 mega pixels . Having such low mega pixels will always make the camera suffer in quality
Okay I don't understand why so many TH-camrs are not uploading their videos in high def! I mean this is a great review don't get me wrong but if we're going to be showing video content of 8K 6K 4K then at minimum we should be uploading those videos at least in 4k right??
Hi Jesse, this video was exported and uploaded in 4K. On the right device you should be able to set a resolution of 4K in the TH-cam settings

Also, the camera doesn’t have the AI warp feature because the processor isn’t good enough and is entirely app based. You also have to pay for it after 3 months, but they dont put that in the ad
The ACE Pro footage looked better and sharper in all conditions including low light. The Ace pro has many advantages. Stabilization is one big advantage on Action pro but but overall the Ace pro does seem like a better overall package.
