      This would be interesting to me as well - I currently use a gopro with a small fan behind it to keep it cool while filming hours-long baseball games. Sometimes in some pretty intense heat - like Arizona in July. With the small fan - it's a USB powered thing that's super quiet - the GoPro is able to keep going, most of the time. I also take the battery out of the GoPro and run it on USB power.
      The GoPro sucks bad at night games. They end up super grainy and dark even when the field is well lit. That alone makes me want to give this Ace Pro a shot, but at $450, I need to know that it can record for multiple hours straight off of USB power, and not overheat. Otherwise, I'll live with the GoPro issues, for now.

    So I have a DJI Osmo Action 4 which I love as my main vlogging camera but I've tried mountain biking with it and find the angle too tight unless I turn off most of the stabilisation which then makes the footage hard to watch. How wide is the Ace Pro?
    One thing I'd really like which I can't quite get from the DJI is the ability to get both vertical AND landscape from the same shot. I have an Insta360 X3 which I use on my chest as a second angle and I absolutely love this feature but sadly the image quality just isn't good enough, especially in low light which is often the case in the dense woods the trails are in.
    I'm torn between the Hero 12 with the Hero Mod and the Ace Pro, I have a Hero 11 and it doesn't do anything particularly special but at the same time it doesn't really do anything bad, it chugs along and I find it pretty reliable at getting usable MTB footage, I would like low light and vertical/horizontal abilities though, can the Ace Pro give me these and let me use the footage straight from the SD card or do I need to use the app to get these features?
    Thanks

    Does the Ace Pro accept USB audio devices or does it only accept external mics via the AcePro mic adapter? I'm a big fan of how DJI is now handling external audio and mics via USB-C and think the audio recorded in the Action 4 is great. But it always feels like external audio is an after thought for Insta360 (seeing as the GO cameras don't even have that capability and the OneX cameras' audio always sounds iffy...). Thanks!

    Thank you and great to see the features of the Insta360 Ace Pro and I would like to see a true comparison with the GoPro Hero 12 & DJI Osmo Action 4 cameras when you have a chance. One thing that wasn't mentioned was the GoPro 11 8:7 sensor. This sensor will allow for better cropping for all 3 video platforms: TH-cam 16:9, Instagram 4:3 and TikTok 9:16 aspect ratios. I think the DJI and Insta360 are only good for 16:9 videos, so depending on what platform you are going to upload your videos there is are choices for the best cameras. Also, there is a trade-off with the 8:7 GoPro aspect ratio and that is low-light sensitivity, so if you record in low light then the DJI or Inta360 will be better.
    I usually shoot in daytime for mountain biking and skiing so i bought the GoPro Hero 11 for being able to adjust the aspect ratio upon export. One last thing about the 8:7 GoPro sensor is that if you have shot in 16:9 and either had the camera pointed to low or too high missing the correct POV, the 8:7 captures more vertically. So you can adjust the export either up or down to compensate for an imperfect camera recording position.

    Any chance you could check the LRV files and let us know the resolution and frame rate? Most importantly, does the LRV frame rate match the frame rate of the main video file? On previous insta360 cameras the LRV files have a lower frame rate (14.98fps) which makes them useless for using as proxy files for editing. Gopro & DJI cameras use a matching frame rate for their LRV files, so they can be used as proxies for editing. To check the frame rate & resolution you just need to rename the LRV file from .lrv to .mp4 and then it will work like a normal video file. Thanks in advance!

    For me riding a motorcycle is still missing:
    - electronic built in variable ND filter what can be set from the camera (or even let to set it automatically to keep the good enough light for the 24ps)
    - allow the record a good quality audio with a remote bluetooth mic, allow to set the gain on the mic in a separate audio track
    Finally the external screen what I asked for a long time is arrived.
    What are the opportunities to record a good quality audio with the ace2 pro, when the camera is not near to your mouth (for example it is on my helmet facing backwards)?

    I'm quite sure the Insta360 Ace Pro will attract buyers. Not sure it's for me though, mainly because a flip screen can't help the durability in the action world. The front screen seems redundant with the flip screen, just an extra power sucker!
    For me, the ideal ACTION camera would be the DJI Action 4 with the AI features of the Insta360 Ace Pro. For action work I don't need additional mechanical failure points or the extra size and weight.

    Thanks - good comparisons. Just one thing, the Ace Pro doesn't have the same sensor as the DJI Action 4. They're the same physical size, but the Ace Pro has an 8K sensor (why clarity zoom works) and the DJI Action 4 sensor is 4K.

    • @DavidManningvlog
      @DavidManningvlog  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

      They actually have the EXACT same sensor. Same manufacturer and exactly the same sensor. The DJI and Ace Pro are doing pixel binning at 4K, meaning they're using four pixels as one to create the image. That takes the 8K sensor and gives you a 4K readout. The Ace Pro however, through the Clarity Zoom is doing 1x1 pixel readout, which is the full 8K sensor. So in theory, DJI could create that feature through a software update. But again, the exact same sensor from the same manufacturer👍

    • @Fee.1
      @Fee.1 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@IainAndersonalmost every smartphone does the same thing. You never noticed phone manufacturers claiming 48MP sensors for example but you only have 12MP photos ? Thats the same situation. They’re using pixel binning, which has its pros and cons, but very few actually have the ability to use the full sensor for a 1:1 full resolution shot. The pixel phones for example. 12MP photos from your 48MP sensor. No way around it. Not even with third party apps.

    The cancel and pause... wow. Just what that could do for work flow and organization alone is amazing. That said, for me, the biggest improvement of all action cams lately has been the Max lens mod - if GoPro will kinda "borrow" some of these ideas and the bigger sensor in their next iteration with a Max lens, that'll be the tops. Unfortunately, I had such horrific hardware and software experiences with Insta360 OneR (defective hardware returns that had to go to china, unusably glitchy software, bad customer service, expensive lens repairs) that I don't think I can buy another (although the old X was better). Unlike the Insta360, the GoPro just seems to work, which is kind of the point (even if the Insta360s have way cooler innovations on paper, it's frustrating when it never ever ever works when you want it to). If they've gotten better, I'd love to know because they are cool. My GoPro is a 10, so kind of on the older side.

The problem is there still aren't any reviews for the osmo action 4 for skiing and i really dont know whether I should get the hero 12 black or the osmo action 4. The thing is i can currently get a hero 12 black standard with 2 additional batteries for 20$ cheaper than an osmo action 4 standard with only 1 additional battery. In the past 2 batteries have been usually enough for a whole day of skiing with the original osmo action. Suggestion to test: I bought the GoPro12 because I can connect the comms of my motorcycle helmet to it via bluetooth and the camera will record its own audio + helmet comms into separate tracks (without needing wires or extra mics) which is great. However the bluetooth does not connect if I start recording by just pressing the record button with the camera off. It only works when I turn on the camera, wait for it to connect and then start recording. I would be very interested in knowing if the ACE PRO can do a quick capture and record bluetooth audio in the process.

    After about fifteen years of using GoPro cameras I switched over to the Action 4 when it was released, I have two action 4's that I use for ebiking. They have been trouble free and awesome little cameras. I have ordered the 360 AcePro because it appears that it is going to be a better camera and the AI has some advantages over the Action 4. I'm not very please that all my Action 4 accessories can't be used on the AcePro but I'll get over that. What amazes me is that people are still buying GoPro's as their technology and ease of use have fallen so far behind the the Action 4 and the Ace Pro.

So, if the daytime footage isn't quite sharp enough for some (on the Insta360), then the footage could be tweaked a bit in Final Cut or whatever, in post to add that little bit of sharpness, if deemed necessary. I use my actions cameras in cold weather, so I never get overheating... but I do get cold weather and general battery life issues. This (and the DJI Action 4) have longer battery life to begin with, and can recharge a battery in 20 mins (versus 2 hours). This also has a live view remote trigger (while GoPro lacked live preview while recording from like the Hero8-11, I think the 12 has it now finally).
      Personally, I've switch to 360 cameras as they ability to frame in post makes things a lot more convenience (even with the severe resolution drop). I've tried the DJI Pocket 3 and the video quality is great with 1-inch sensor and stabilization is great with gimbal, but for me it is still a hassle to have to track the subject while I'm flying down the mountain next to them.

      @@user-le6fm8ob3v I agree that the lens on the 360 camera are noticeably exposed even with the lens guards you are taking a bigger risk.
      Personally, I've been using and breaking cameras for two decades now and I personally don't worry about damaging the lens on snow (compared to rocks). I haven't been uploading that many videos to TH-cam recent versus private sharing with family and friend... but you can see what I used to did as a decent snowboards (and what I do now as a mediocre skiier) and I wouldn't have any qualms about using my Insta360 X2 basically anywhere on the mountain as I don't think snow will cause that much damage. Pavement and gravel are bigger risks imo (this summer I took a decent tumble in the dirt as a BMX park) and I've yet to crack the front lens of any GoPro (even my old Hero8 which doesn't have a replacement lens cover... although I ended up cracking the rear touchscreen on a different GoPro).
      Anyways, that's my personal experience obviously your situation and preferences will be different.

    For sure a great product, but, as an Osmo action 4 owner, i still prefer it, first of all just beacuse the OA4 shoot Dlog-M at 10bit while the Ace pro flat profile is at 8bit (but i'm sure they will fix it in a future firmware update) personally i use this cameras just for what they meant to be: an ACTION cam! This is why I don't like the flip screen, for me it's another loose part that could break during the "action" and this is why I'm not worried about low light capabilities (and the OA4 already performs very well) The only thing I'm missing is the ability to connect to the apple watch to capture GPS data (and again I hope DJI fixes this with a future firmware update) Cheers from Roma Italy

  • @MilanAryal7

    The flip-up screen on an action camera? Not for me. If I need one for vlogging or similar purposes, the Osmo Pocket 3 is the best choice. I still favor the Osmo Action 4 for its price, battery life, usability, bundled packs like the adventure combo, superior waterproofing (18m on OA4 vs. 10m on Ace Pro), and image quality, which is on par or even better in some instances with the same sensor size. The AI features on Ace Pro didn't impress me much, I also trust DJI updating firmwares and adding similar AI software features to the OA4.
    However, I am excited and keeping an eye out for the Insta360 One X4, which might come with a better sensor (1/1.3 inch) similar to the Ace Pro, higher resolution 360 video, and other exciting features.

    For clarity zoom, you're not at 4K zooming in and remaining at 4K, you're at 8K zooming into 4K. It uses pixel binning to reduce the resolution to 4K at 1X zoom. The fact that this camera is even capable of 8K is worth calling out unto itself.

    • @DavidManningvlog
      @DavidManningvlog  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The Ace Pro and Action 4 are both using the exact same sensor. Same manufacturer, literally the same sensor. And you're right that technically they're both 8K sensors that are pixel binning. The Ace Pro is allowing you, when punching in via clarity zoom, to not pixel bin and use the full 8K sensor. So not sure if DJI will be able to add this as a feature as well. It'll depend on the power of the processor in the Action 4

    • @EverythingIsPhotogenic
      @EverythingIsPhotogenic 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@DavidManningvlog I do not believe these are the same sensors. The effective pixel count is different and DJI's sensor has greater bit depth. I am nearly positive the DJI sensor is not capable of 8K even if the processor could handle the readout (with their heat dissipation technology and reasonable processor, if the sensor could read 8K, it's likely the Action could process it, especially at 24 FPS).
      The Ace Pro sensor is boasted as the industry's first sensor capable of 8K 24 FPS. They specifically call out the sensor, not the camera. I don't assume all marketing "hype" is honest, but it certainly would open up Insta360 to litigation if that was an inaccurate claim. The patent drawings do not indicate the sensor models, but I would be very surprised if these were the same

    I’d probably still go with DJI OA 4. Or wait for the 5. Insta360 is too heavy and not needed for MTB videos. Also narrower FOV. One thing you really didn’t get into is image stabilization, especially in high contrast & low light scenarios which is critical for MTB.

    A 100% game changer.. no one can deny. Thanks for the comparison review, this one clearly reveals why Ace Pro can win the Hero 12 and Action 4. No complaints. Ace Pro speaks for itself.

    I’m curious as to if the Insta360 has a subscription program similar to Go Pros for warranty replacements and accessory discounts. The unlimited cloud storage is a major win for me with the GoPro subscription.
    Also Ulanzi makes a third party go pro magnetic mount to replace the factory arms as well.

      Warranty service and replacement, 20% off now and additional 2 yrs for like...$35 or something.

    I have a tendency to do long captures, night sky, road trips, hikes, where it records for hours so i will just connect an external battery (or try to) but I always run into overheating issues. I've found that on my original Ista360R, if i remove the battery and externally connect a usb battery, I can run that for hours on end. I was looking at the Hero 4 as a possibility but this sounds pretty cool. But with this, I wonder now how I can plug in external mics like the Rode go.

    Insta360 is really stepping up the game. Personally I'd love to see a combo-frankenstein unit of the three. The dream cam would be a 1" Sensor (minimum), BT mic input, Magnetic Feet, and either Front of Flip Screen

      DJI has BT input, magnetic attachment, lacks 1", costs less, weighs less, and is smaller.

      @@robertorebe7246 I thought DJI was only with the DJI mics? Not much of a problem cause they're so good but guess I didn't see the update?

    One other thought, the AI is OK, definitely a step in the right direction but I will bypass and wait for a better quality 360 camera. This is where the money is, in my humble opinion. I love the Insta360x3, but the lack of 10-bit and lower res is what I am waiting to be solved. In short, this is so much more versatile.

      I agree. When Insta360 comes out with a 360 camera that has higher resolution after reframing it I will be all over that.

    How does it work as a webcam? Can you zoom and crop the view at all to limit what background is caught (for Zoom green screen)? Does it give a fisheye effect?

    My only concern is the lens, I use these for motorsports and damaging the lens and having to send it out is not great. Also, if they had filters for the @insta360 I would be 100% be sold. What speed is that mount for the insta rated for?
