Though the actual definition of repentance isn't turning away from sin, I think we can all see that that's the ultimate outcome. Great video btw. I love illustrative videos like this.

You make the mistake that when repentance is mentioned in the NT. It always refers to sin.. This is not true..the Bible mentions that God repented in the Old Test. Repent is a transitive verb...it asked the question repent or change you mind about what. The object of the verb repent or has to have an object. *
      * arsh in this vs, Peter says"Peter replied, 'Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.'"The verb repent demands an object, It is saying repent of what. My question to you is what is the object in this vs, It is asking what do I change my mind about. If you guessed sin ,you would be wrong like so many who see this vs. The object of the verb in this sentence is Jesus Christ. It is Changing you mind that you receive the Holy Spirit. That saves.,

Just want to point out that even though the word “repentance” comes from the Greek word which literally means “to change your mind,” it has a much broader meaning. For instance, neither Jesus nor John the Baptist actually used the word “metanoia.” They didn’t speak Greek. The word “metanoia” was just a close Greek equivalent at the time the Gospels were written. They both spoke in Aramaic. I would suggest that the Jewish people to whom they spoke understood their call to repentance to be more in-line with OT concepts of repentance. These concepts included sorrow for sin and a turning from it (See Jonah chapter 3, for instance). Paul, as an OT scholar, would probably have used the OT concept of repentance as well. I think using the transliteration of the Greek word “metanoia” gets us pretty far afield from the actual teachings of John, Jesus, and Paul. Their concept of human repentance would certainly have included not only a change of mind about Jesus, but also a change of mind about sin and the trajectory of our life. Paul uses the word as a direction word in Acts 20 where we he rehearses his common preaching by saying that we must “repent towards God.” It is interesting that he did not urge sinners to repent towards Jesus, but towards God. Anyway, just some thoughts.

Repentance is to change your mind with regards to the worldly way to obtain salvation. What is the worldly way to obtain salvation? The worldly way of salvation is to stop sinning and do more good works to be qualify for God's acceptance. But according to God, no sinner can enter heaven. That includes sinner who by their own definition has stopped sinning (in reality, no sinner can stop sinning in action or thought). A sinner who is able to sin less and do a lot of good works, is just a well behaved sinner. A sinner is still a sinner regardless whether he is sinning less and did a lot of good works. No amount of good works or committing less sin will change the status of a sinner into a saint.
True repentance is to understand that a sinner cannot save himself because nobody can change their sinner status through good works or committing less sins. The only way to change the sinner status is to accept Jesus' payment for our sins and to be BORN AGAIN (made into a new creation). Also when someone is born again and become a christian, that does not mean that a christian will stop sinning. Because even after being born again, a Christian is still living inside the old fallen body which is still subjected to sin. That is why the body of the christian will still die.

Becoming a "new creature" is to receive the Holy Spirit, and to be Born of God. Nobody "Born of God" can continue to make a practice of sin. This is where everyone gets lost. Yes, Christians will always "sin". But a Christians life is not defined by sin. They cannot continue as the witch, the adulterer, the fornicator, the homosexual...etc. The Christian repentance rejects and and turns away from those lifestyles.

I no longer want to continue sinning. I asked for forgiveness of my sins as well. I know excessive drinking and drug use are sins. I have been able to give up the drugs, but I still drink. I wonder if continuing to drink or making mistakes that lead me back into sin, will cause Jesus not to know me at the end of my life. I thought repentance was a change of heart, not just mind. Your deeds change because your heart was changed, hence born again. Actions follow after a change of heart because everything you do flows from your heart. So Jesus changes your heart, because of your change in heart and mind about sin, and about him. At least, that's what happened when I was saved, I felt sorrow in my heart and believed in Jesus and repented of my sins and my hardness toward Jesus. I felt it in my heart, not just my head.

And in doing so, you will act differently? How then will I know if I’m doing good works out of repentance or just relying on my good works to “keep me saved” I’m sorry for any confusion. Could someone please help?

When we repent, we are acknowledging to God that we are sinners, in need of a Savior. When we believe in Jesus Christ & ask Him to become our Savior we are going to want to live in a way that is pleasing to Him. How differently someone acts will depend largely on what kind of person they already were. When you love someone you just naturally want to please them, right? It's the same basic thing when we dedicate our lives to Christ...we will have the desire to become the kind of man or woman we feel He wants us to be. Of course we can't be perfect as long as we live in this world, but we want to strive to do the best we can to help others come to know Him. I don't know if that helps... God bless.

Jesus helps us to understand what repentance is.
      Matthew
21:28 But what think ye? A certain man had two sons; and he came to the first, and said, Son, go work to day in my vineyard.
21:29 He answered and said, I will not: but afterward he repented, and went.
21:30 And he came to the second, and said likewise. And he answered and said, I go, sir: and went not.
21:31 Whether of them twain did the will of his father? They say unto him, The first. Jesus saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That the publicans and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you.
      ----
The first son, when he was asked to go work in the vineyard, he said he would not.
He didn't want to do what his father's will was, he wanted to follow his own will.
He repented afterward, turning from his own will, and doing the will of his father.
What is the will of God?
      John 6:29
Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.
      ----
Gods will is to save us. Man's will is to live his own way.
      Romans 3:11
There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.
      ---
The reason you are seeking him now is, because God is drawing you to himself. We seek him because we are sought out by him first.
It's up to you how you respond to his calling you. If you reject his call to salvation, it's because you want to do what your desire and will is, not his will, which is to believe the gospel and be saved.
The gospel message is, we have all sinned.
      Romans 3:23
      For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
      ----
The good news is, God loves us, and he sent his son to die for us. Jesus bore the suffering on that cruel cross, but much more then that, he bore the wrath of God on that cross, for my sin, your sin, the sins for all of mankind.
He died after he had drunk that cup of God's wrath, but three days later, he rose again. He rose again because God was satisfied with his sacrifice. God can now forgive my debt of sin, and your debt of sin, because Jesus Christ the Righteous One, bore and paid all that debt that I owed, and you owed.
If you believe that, you will be saved, and you will know without a doubt that you have been saved, and forgiven of all your sin.
      1 John 5:13
These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.
      Romans 8:16
The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
      ---
You will know if you have been truly saved, God himself will tell you that you are his, through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.
      Jesus said this.
      Mark 1:15
The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.
      ---
Repent, turn from your will and say yes to the Father's will, and believe the gospel.
If you would like anymore help, feel free to ask. I will leave you with one last verse.
      Isaiah 1:18
Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.

Repentance from what i understand it is to ask our Heavenly Father for forgiveness and with our mouth say we repent ( change our mind) and then try not to do it again. The walk we take is a long walk, a holy walk, and though it is impossible for us to do it alone it is Our Father's grace that helps us with our struggles. He knows our weaknesses and that's why he urges us to come to him. I hope I gave you a little clarity....enough to understand a little better. God Bless you brother. 🙂🙂🙂

When a person gets saved, they stop believing their old false beliefs (aka repent of, or turn from them), to then instead believe (and trust in) Jesus Christ (2 cor 7:10). Repentance with regards to salvation is a switching of belief from whatever you believed before, to Christ.
This is different than repenting of your sins, which is a good work, and thus absolutely not required for salvation.

Most Evangelicals get the theology of biblical Repentance wrong. And I've only recently understood what biblical Repentance is. Most think it's doing a u-turn and turning away from sins. But this isn't repentance, this is the FRUIT of repentance.
Repentance is actually a gift from God and the power of the holy spirit and we are Incapable of repentance on our own. Repentance has basically 2 parts. Part one is the Law, in that we become aware of God's Law and we are terrified of a holy God, knowing the horrific consequences of our sins against Him, eternal damnation.
Part two is the Gospel, turning to Jesus Christ by faith for the forgiveness of our sins, Christ keeping the law perfectly on our behalf and paying the penalty for our sins on the cross.
In summary repentance is conviction under God's law that we are sinners and that we deserve hell for our sins, and then turning to Jesus Christ by faith for the forgiveness of our sins. That's what repentance is.
Turning from our sins is the FRUIT of repentance, and should flow from the knowlege of God's kindness and His salvific works on our behalf, but turning from sins is not in itself repentance. Let's be realistic here ok, we all know it's impossible to be morally perfect or keep God's laws for even 10 seconds. There's a pound of flesh in everything we think and do, and every day we sin in thought, word, and deed.
So repentance isn't something WE do, because it's a gift from God. Instead we should constantly be looking to God and what He has done FOR US in the person and work of Jesus Christ. We're way worse at keeping God's Laws than you think! But as Christians we are no longer under the Law but under grace. So we need Christ and the gospel in our focus 24/7 to constantly remind us that God will never disown us or even look at us with disfavor when we sin, and in fact He sees us as perfect as Christ is perfect.
Our only hope as Christians is to trust/have faith in Jesus Christ as our only assurance of salvation, instead of looking at our own works, and our complete inability to keeps God's law for assurance of salvation. Faith in Jesus for the forgiveness of our sins will bring us peace and joy.
Conversely, hyperfocus on our inability to not sins and constantly wondering if we are doing enough "christian things" like prayer or reading your Bible will only lead to doubts and despair. Don't look at your own failures at keeping God's Laws, but look to Jesus who kept God's laws perfectly on your behalf and paid your sin debt so you can be forgiven, freely, by faith alone, without the burden of God's laws crushing your spirit. That is the simplicity and the beauty of the gospel.

Faith and believe are not synonyms.
Believe means to be convinced, and Faith means confidence and assurance.
When one thoroughly reads the scriptures, the question that should be asked is, Who is Faith, not what is faith.
      Romans 3:22
Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:
      Galatians 2:16
Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.
      Galatians 3:22
But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe.
      ----
In these passages, it is the Faith of Jesus that is given to them that believe.
      Galatians 3:23
But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed.

There is a difference between the Christian faith, and all other faiths.
All other faiths come from within a person. The Christian faith comes from without into the believer, through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.
So faith would not come before repentance, but rather after a person has repented and believed the gospel.
When a person has repented and believed the gospel, they are granted the faith of Jesus.
      Ephesians 2:8

Thank you for looking into the scriptures for yourself to see that truth. So many want to argue because they already have pre-conceived ideas what the truth is. I too used to make that error without being like a Berean to see if those things were so.
One good example is the timing of the rapture. I was taught one interpretation, which was wrong. A Christian had tried to show me from scripture that my understanding was wrong, but I was set in my ways and would not hear it, automatically assumimg he was wrong,to my error. We should always be ready to examine God's word.
I am glad the Holy Spirit guided and lead me to the truth of the rapture.
From that point on I have learned to study Gods word more earnestly, to question everything I am taught.

Ive understood from reading the bible that repentance is when you accept Jesus thru Faith.
The person who believes in Jesus has committed Repentance.
But it troubles me that even the greatest preachers dont teach this and has thus made me feel confused at times.

Did you truly repent if you keep going back to the same sin? That takes discernment to know. Here are two biblical notions and keep both in mind.
One is that someone can truly repent of sin, but keep failing by giving into the temptation. Know that we are commanded to forgive others who repent an unlimited amount of times, and this is reflective of how God forgives us an unlimited amount of times despite our sin against him. If you're truly repenting of your sin, you will be forgiven. The second notion is that there is such thing as false repentance. There are those who think they've repented but haven't, and then those people go along with their lives without doing anything to try and turn from their sin.
I think if you're struggling with this sin that means you're trying to turn away from it. If continuing to sin were a sign one hasn't truly repented then no one would have, as we all continue to sin against God. That being said, we are to do everything we can to fight against sin in our lives. Although it's hyperbolic and not meant literally, the Bible tells us to cut off our hands if it helps us to refrain from sin and to pluck out our eyes if that did the same. We are to take drastic action, although probably not literal self-harm, to try and refrain from sinning.
What drastic actions could you take to try and refrain from your sin? Temptation to sin can often start small but grow larger and larger the more you entertain the idea of it. Cutting off the possibility to sin before you can be tempted by it, or before the temptation grows beyond your self-control, is usually a good idea. For example, an alcoholic might do good to not enter a bar in the first place as to not be tempted. That alcoholic might do good to not even approach a bar to avoid the temptation of going inside. What steps could you try to take to avoid your sin? Is accessing the internet part of it? If it is then maybe refrain from using the internet in the first place. Maybe you could only use the internet when you absolutely need to (like to do online baking or something) and then refuse to use it beyond that. Maybe if you want to use the internet but avoid the temptation that goes along with it you could only allow yourself to access the internet in a public setting like at a coffee shop or something. Those would be some drastic steps, but if internet access is part of what allows you to sin in that way then those might be a good idea. Consider what steps you could take to try and avoid sinning, whatever that may involve.

    Romans 3:23
    For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
    ----
The good news is, God loves us, and he sent his son to die for us.
    Isaiah 1:18

It is important for a believer to abide in Jesus Christ. When they do, they become partakers of the fruits of the Holy Spirit. They become partakers of faith, Jesus faith, his assurance.
If a believer walks in the flesh, they are not connected to the vine. They must abide in Jesus to bear the fruits.
      John
15:7 If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.
15:8 Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.
      ----
The believer becomes partakers of the fruit when they abide in Jesus.
If they walk in the flesh, they lose sight of their savior. They don't lose their salvation, they lose the joy of it, the assurance, the blessings that come from abiding in Jesus.
When David sinned, he lost the joy of his salvation, he was no longer partakers of that joy. This is what David prayed.
      Psalms 51:12
Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit.
      ----
He didn't lose salvation, he lost the joy of it.
A believer will lose the joy of assurance, if they are sinning, walking in the flesh.
      2 Peter
1:8 For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
1:9 But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.
      -----
A true born again believer can lose sight of peace and forgiveness that are in Jesus Christ, the assurance he provides to them, if they walk in the flesh.
The closer one walks with Jesus, abides, stays in him, the more they become partakers of his faith, his assurance.

Correct. That’s why repentance needs to be defined. In the biblical context of salvation, repentance means a change of mind from unbelief and rejection to a mind of belief and faith.
All those passages quoted are true that if one doesn’t come to God through the salvation found in Christ, they will perish.

I want to agree with this, however, taken STRICTLY as stated, many will say, well, I have changed my mind about Jesus as Savior and "nothing happened". My life hasn't changed. The Free Grace crowd will respond that obedience and works from that point is optional and good, but not necessary for salvation.
But to turn your mind TO CHRIST IS TURNING YOUR MIND AWAY FROM SIN, because Christ is the opposite of sin. It's synonymous. You can't be a satanist and a follower of Christ just by "believing" the facts of the Gospel. To walk after CHRIST is to WALK AWAY from sin. To truly believe in Veganism is to walk away from meat.
I would also add that Peter also says in Acts 2 to be Baptized and receive the Holy Spirit. This is no trivial "add on" . DO IT. The Holy Spirit is who transforms us and produces works through us in keeping with repentance.

Repentance can mean different things in the bible. To repent simply means to turn from something. This can be from your sin, but not necessarily. God actually repented multiple times in the bible, even though He obviously had no sin; He just changed his mind about something.
So repentance can mean that you stop believing what you believed before, and turn to belief in Jesus Christ. That is the only repentance involved in salvation. If repentance from sin was required for salvation, the sacrifice of Christ would be for nothing (galatians 2:21)

Repentance isn't a " work" it is an act of obedience. Repentance is incomplete without water baptism. Repentance plus water baptism is what causes the remission of sins.
Remission of sins is the removal of guilt from the conscience, because of the shed blood of Christ, and is the Holy Spirit circumcising our conscience, removing the guilt from past sins, and restoring it to its original childlike sensitivity to sins.
It is the " washing of regeneration"( Titus 3:5). Regeneration means to return something to its original state.
Water baptism is also the type of the O.T. antitype of cleansing the temple with water and blood in preparation for the entry of the Spirit of God.

You don’t need to be water baptized to become saved.

The Bible says salvation can't be earned by baptism, good behavior, church membership, communion, or even good deeds. Anyone trusting in those things to save them must repent and put their trust 100% in Christ and Him ALONE. The Bible says: "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast." (Eph. 2:8-9).
Examine yourself. When you made your profession of faith did you forsake trusting your baptism or good deeds to save you? Did you instead put all your trust in Christ alone to save you? Did you truly repent?

@Dan Salvation is a free gift and there is nothing we can do to earn it, but even a free gift must be recieved in order for it to be ours. The word " recieve" ,in the Greek that the scriptures were originally written in, means " to take hold of".
I think that we can agree that the original language something is written in and it's definitions take priority over any other language and it's definitions.
Salvation and all things offered to us by God are free and its our faith in action that results in us recieving them.
In Acts ch.19, before any other discussion took place, Paul asking the disciples " Have you recieved the Holy Spirit since you believed"? If the Holy Spirit is recieved the moment that you believe then Pauls question doesn't make sense.
Peter and Oeter alone was given the keys to the kingdom of heaven by Jesus and he spoke those keys in Acts 2:38.
Paul also operated on Acts 2:38 when he led the disciples to salvation in Acts ch .19.
Lastly, if I offer you a free gift you can believe it's free but it's not yours until you take step to recieved it.
