Repentance involves a radical break with sin Without repentance there is no forgiveness of sins If there is sin in our life and we refuse to turn from it that is living in rebellion against God And we will not go to heaven The spirit of God cannot exist in one who practices sin If a person wants a relationship with achieve what a holy God and go to heaven we must forsake our life of sin And if we are sincere Christ will endure us with the Holy Spirit who then will give us the strength every day to resist sin temptation and the devil We cannot accept Christ as savior from the penalty of sin and go to heaven without accepting him as Lord of our life And giving him the right to control our life and his will to be done in our lives Act 2: 38 , 3: 19 , mt 4:17 , mk 1:15 , Act 20:21 , 1cor 6:9-11 , Gal 5:19-24 eph 5:5-6 , Rev 21:8 , Rev 22:15 , Hebrew 10:26-27

@@user-iw3bj8wm1v "Without repentance there is no forgiveness of sins... and we will not go to heaven". So unless there is no sin in our lives we will not go to heaven? Who then will go to heaven, for no one is without sin. "The spirit of God cannot exist in one who practices sin..." Did anyone stop sinning the moment that they turned to faith in Christ, for that is when we are born again by the Spirit of God. If we continue to sin after the new birth, does the Spirit then leave us? See 1 John 1:8--2:1 I think maybe you are influenced by people who teach Christian perfectionism. That is not the reality of the Gospel of salvation. Repentance is a turning around and walking away from sinfulness and is on going in the life of the believer, as we are being Sanctified. Even Paul struggled with sin, was he not saved? Should we put sin to death, yes. But is our salvation based on that? No, it is based on faith in Christ and if so, we will walk more and more away from sins. Read Jeremiah 17:9 A person may not practice sin, yet still have a tainted heart.

So if we come to faith in Christ for the forgiveness of our sins, then we are not "saved" until we have a radical break with sin? That does not sound like the true Gospel to me, for then we are saving ourselves and not Christ who saves sinners by taking away the power of the law to condemn us. I agree that we should always be repenting of our sins, but what you say would be a works gospel. Jesus had to die for our sin debt; past, present and future, for we could in no way repay it, and we are all sinners from birth to death. (Jeremiah 17:9) Read what Paul says in Romans 7:7-25 and John in 1st John 1:8 through 2:2. Trust in Christ and not yourself for the salvation of your soul, for he alone will bring it about. Christ is able to save the worst of us and he alone will rightly judge all of us in the end.

Must a person forsake his sins in order to come to Christ?
Auchterarder Creed: “It is not sound and orthodox to teach that we must forsake sin
in order to our coming to Christ.”
    Thomas Boston:
That it is the duty of all those that hear the gospel to instantly believe in Him without looking for any qualification from within.
That it is impossible for any to forsake their sins until the Spirit had determined him to come to Christ as a Prince and Savior exalted to give repentance and remission of sins.
Therefore it is the grace of God onto repentance and faith, then obedience and works.

They did define it. It is a turning to Christ and away from sin, both at the same time. The religious Jews of Jesus's day did turn from sin by trying to keep the law, but they did not turn to Christ. That was their folly. One part of repentance is to turn to Christ as our Lord, giving up being lord of ourselves. This is a change of mind from being wrong to being right. It is wrong not to accept the savior and wrong to continue to break laws that the creator God has made for us, but it comes by grace and faith, not by works. Eph. 2:8-9 Salvation is the gift of God, it cannot be bought or worked for. But you may ask for it!

Repentance is something God gives-it is only possible because of His grace (Acts 5:31; 11:18). No one can repent unless God grants repentance. All of salvation, including repentance and faith, is a result of God drawing us, opening our eyes, and changing our hearts. God’s longsuffering leads us to repentance (2 Peter 3:9), as does His kindness (Romans 2:4).

My understanding is that to repent simply means to change ones mind. In Genesis 6:6 "And it repented the Lord that He had made man on the earth, and it grieved Him at His heart." KJV. In short, God repented. Had the Lord sinned?? NO.. He changed His mind. So, when God drawls sinners to Himself "John 6:44".. He gives the sinner the ability to, well.. change their mind about their sins. Otherwise it would be and act of works if we just think.. "turn from my sins" would save the sinner. Remember the Scribes and Pharisees? This is what out Lord was getting at when rebuked them in Matthew 23:27. They looked great.. but sin ruled in their unrepented hearts. Just like back in Matthew 5:28 Jesus gives these men a lesson in adultery, it's about the heart. In short, when ones see sin as God sees it and through God/Jesus (one in both are the same) in faith, this is repentance. The thief on the cross railed against the Lord at first ,but then he repented.. he changed his mind. Luke 23: 39-43. 🕊️

If repentance is a good work, it is still good work produced by the Spirit. You cannot repent if you are dead in sin. Authentic faith will necessarily yield repentance. So I'll say it's a fruit of faith and it can be a good work, as long we understand it is a good work produced by the Spirit alone.

We are saved by our good works. When Paul says we are saved by grace apart from works he means apart from the works of the Jewish law. Because when Paul would establish a gentile Church the Jewish Christians came in behind him and would tell the people they had to follow the law. Become circumcised keep the Sabbath and all the holy days that are under the law, the Old Testament. In the beginning of Christianity they were still working those things out. Paul says we receive Grace apart from works and he also means that it is God that saves us because God chooses us we don't choose God. The very fact that we're trying to live the way Jesus teaches is God working in us and that is God's grace working on the inside of us. Everywhere the New Testament talks about judgment it says we will be judged by our deeds. None of us deserved for Jesus to come and die on the cross and Paul says that while we were yet in our sins Christ died for us that is God's grace apart from our own works. But when we come to Christ we must repent of our sins and change our manner of lifestyle. We have to purify our heart and mind and we have our entire life to do that and that is our sanctification. we receive forgiveness and are saved from the moment we believe and then we are baptized and we live according to the teachings of Jesus Christ and we are saved. Obedience to Jesus Christ and his teachings are not optional. All of it together is our faith biblical Faith what people call a saving Faith always results in repentance. The Bible does not teach with that we are saved by faith alone that term is not even in the Bible the only place that the word faith and alone are together in the scriptures is in James when he says that we are not saved by faith alone. Paul tells us we must work out our salvation with fear and trembling what is God that works within us and Jesus says that he that endures to the end shall be saved.
    ‭Philippians 2:12-13 NASB1995‬
[12] So then, my beloved, just as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your salvation with fear and trembling; [13] for it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure.
    ‭James 2:24 NASB1995‬
[24] You see that a man is justified by works and not by faith alone.
    ‭Matthew 24:10-14 NASB1995‬
[10] At that time many will fall away and will betray one another and hate one another. [11] Many false prophets will arise and will mislead many. [12] Because lawlessness is increased, most people’s love will grow cold. [13] But the one who endures to the end, he will be saved. [14] This gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all the nations, and then the end will come.
It is easy to understand people live in sin and God demands that we should live a holy life before him therefore we have to repent of our sins stop living in sin and turn to God in obedience in the Faith of Christ. We are forgiven as soon as we turn to God and we have our entire life to work out our sins but we have to repent of all of their habitual sins. That is what faith in Christ is that's what believing in God is we cannot do as we please as Paul says.
    ‭2 Peter 3:14-18 NASB1995‬
[14] Therefore, beloved, since you look for these things, be diligent to be found by Him in peace, spotless and blameless, [15] and regard the patience of our Lord as salvation; just as also our beloved brother Paul, according to the wisdom given him, wrote to you, [16] as also in all his letters, speaking in them of these things, in which are some things hard to understand, which the untaught and unstable distort, as they do also the rest of the Scriptures, to their own destruction. [17] You therefore, beloved, knowing this beforehand, be on your guard so that you are not carried away by the error of unprincipled men and fall from your own steadfastness, [18] but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory, both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.

In simpler terms: one must do what their belief *requires* them to do. The fact people psychologically ‘split’ the two attests to unbelief in itself, for how can you believe something you do not know [epistemologically], and how can you know something you do not understand. ‘Reformed’ theology is hardly reformed.
The only “works” in the Bible are works that refer to the “works of the LAW.” *Not* anything and everything that you can map to an act of volition. Stop letting an ideology speak for you because it’s sweet and nice; the human will is *not* an axiomatic premise in the biblical ontology; you can thank the neo-Gnostic, Augustine of Hippo for that much.

It is us trying to being lord of our lives and then being chastised and then returning Jesus as Lord of our lives. How come I’ve never heard any pastors teach the importance of psalm chapter 119 with regards to repentance? there are no better examples of repentance in the entire Bible.

Not a personal decision, but a choosing. Eph. Chapter 1 and 2 1Cor. 1:26-31. God gets all the glory. If we chose something it would be according to our sinful nature. Like people who choose false religions.

    There's no faith without repentance!
    Definition of sin:
1Jn 3:4 Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law. (All of God's laws given to Moses, and lived perfectly in the life of our Savior Jesus, as our example of how we are to live.)
1Jn 2:4He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.
5But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.
5But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.
1Jn 5:2By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments.
3For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.
4For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.

Repentance is God's work, just as faith is considered a work and is a gift as is repentance.

-Faith is believing you cant work for salvation and need Jesus the Son of God and His SACRIFICE for forgiveness of sins
-Repentance is coming under God's authority and care and know that His ways are better than yours and all you want to do now is what pleases your Father in heaven because you know there is no one who loves you more!
    "SAVING FAITH"
    WILL HAVE BOTH ELEMENTS

Yes, I agree with you. It was bizarre what he said. “We work to earn our salvation” why didn’t the others on the panel correct his doctrine?

      James 1:21-22
Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.
But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.

I must BELIEVE that I am a sinner and am INCAPABLE of changing.
    Repentance means CHANGE of mind.
Nothing but Pelagian garbage on this panel.
