I completely agree. I’m early in the empty nest season and it’s been so disheartening to be questioned as to why I haven’t returned to the workforce. My husband and I are excited to see how God will use this time in our lives to implement some things in our lifestyle such as broadening our homesteading skills. Home economy is something we are seeking as well as building up our local economy as “missionaries”. Thank you for this series, Kelli!
@Home With Kelli yes my husband and I agree. My girls are in the preteen years, so I find it even more important to be home with them. I want them to learn how to be a great help, mate from me. I know they won't get it anywhere else.

I'm so thankful to find this conversation. My children are grown also, and I'm a divorced woman at 48 years old that is just learning the importance of traditional homemaking/ Home economy. When the good Lord gives me a second chance at love, I pray I can practice all these things i'm learning. ❤Follow Jesus and Love Well.❤
I wrote a paper once on this for a college class. This paper was worth a third of my overall class grade. That paper was the big end project that we were all sweating bullets over. The paper was about a female painter who painted mostly images of mothers and children at home but she was one of the first voices of feminism. She never married or had kids. I wrote about how her views actually were destroying the very images she valued so much to paint. I went on to talk about how much it costs a household to have a mother working full time. How society has gone down hill ever since this became the norm. I pointed out the rise in childhood obesity, depression and suicides rising in children to young adults....marriages failing. All for what? The possible 1/4-1/3 of the extra check benefiting the home. By the time you get done outsourcing all the jobs a mother does and paying for take out and extra car maintenance...there's hardly anything left! Then you have a stressed out, destant, and broken family to show for it. I was so nervous writing on this subject because I was sure my professor was very "woke". But he gave me the highest mark on every criteria required for that paper and then thanked me for the paper! I was shocked. I never did finish that degree but I'm glad I didn't end up with student debt. I used my GI Bill from my military service. Anyway, I was one class away from finishing but then my household duties called me. I'll never use the business degree I was aiming for anyway but I will always cherish that paper. That paper was written after years of learning the hard way. By punching the numbers, experiencing divorce and single parenting...and now, FINALLY, being able be the stay at home mom that I have ultimately learned is the ideal job afterall. I'm 5 months pregnant with a little girl now. My youngest child so far is 16 years old and oldest is 18! I was very close to being an empty nester but, as it is, I can't wait to start this journey over again and the "right way " in my opinion. BTW, don't judge my writing by one youtube comment thumb typed on a tablet lol. This isn't a college paper or journalism (though most pieces journalism I've encountered recently has shown a MASSIVE decline in editing anyway 🤔).

You are 100% spot on! I am a great grandmother. I was almost always a homemaker but there was a time I was a paralegal. It was not good for me or my family when I worked outside the home. When a couple is so consumed with the huge house and fancy cars, they work countless hours. They are not in the home, they are just paying for it. They are not mothers and fathers because someone else is raising their children. The marriage suffers, the children suffer, and no one is really happy. The work of homemakers/mothers/wives is far more important than society gives credit. I am so thankful that I raised my own children. I take care of our home. I am able to be an important part of my grandchildren's lives. We are ALL much happier because of me being a homemaker and it is a roll I am very proud of.

@homewithkelli Hi I am also a Homemaker and caregiver to my son who's autistic I take care of my husband and two of our grandchildren 2yr old and 1yr old I do get paid to watch my grandchildren because it is physically hard on me to take care of them I've just now got them on the same sleeping schedule I wish my dil would want to be a stay at home mom but I'm glad that I can love on my grandchildren.

Wise words!!! I have been a homemaker for almost 29 years. We are now empty nesters and people don’t understand why I haven’t gone and got a job. Being a keeper of my home is my job. I can’t imagine not being here to run the household and support my hard working hubby.
I am right there with you! My husband is a pastor and he needs me in the home!
Helping him and being available to serve is so important!!!
I’m in this season as well! Praise the Lord for giving us the privilege to serve our husbands and home in this way that extends into our community.

It took me 38 years to figure out how important it is to be a homemaker. I wish I would have understood it sooner. I invest my time and energy into my family and my home. I consider it a full time job because us homemakers we work really hard. I am so happy I stay at home. I know how valuable it is to my husband and children.

@@homewithkelli Ive been a stay at home mom and wife since 2011 when my son was 4 but I always struggled with the desire to work out of the home. It was an inner struggle for me because I felt I needed to contribute financially. But just recently realized this is best thing I can do for my family and most importantly it is God’s desire for me to be a keeper at home.
It took me 40 years I also wish I would of understood it sooner😢
I am a keeper at home, and so busy. My kids are grown and flown, and I am still a keeper at home. Thank You Jesus for my husband who appreciates everything I do.

I appreciate your message so much! I come from a conservative Christian community where very few married women work outside the home, especially as a career. I was single until age 25 (which is fairly old for my community) I ended up having the opportunity to become part owner of a small cafe at the age of 19 and worked my tail off for 2 years doing that. After the cafe I felt the Lord leading me to go to college for an Associates degree to become an occupational therapy assistant. I met the man I ended up marrying halfway thru my program and we got married right after I finished school! I did want to use my degree, so for now I work 1-2 days a week. However once the Lord gives us the blessing of children I do not plan to work outside the home. I love being a homemaker and learning new skills. I had a garden this summer and have learned how to can. It is so rewarding to see the jars on the shelves! I have had the privilege of being taught the skills of homemaking growing up, and am so thankful for it! I struggle to be organized and efficient in getting things done, so I cannot imagine what I would be like if I had not been taught basic homemaking skills😂
I totally relate to the stress of working full time. As a single woman, I had to work full time to support myself. It is such a blessing to not have that burden anymore!🙏

Oh my Kelli I couldn't agree more! I faced criticism specifically from my mother in law for staying home, especially before we had children. My husband has never wanted me to work, he wanted me to stay home with our future children and take care of our home. 7 years and 3 children later we still operate on his income alone. Traditional lifestyle is so much more fulfilling.

It took us 16 years to have children! I was always at home taking care of my husband! Now we have 3 children ready to leave home! God's ideal for us is higher than the world has to offer!
yes, I received much criticism from my MIL. She would even go so far as to bring me job applications until I blew up on her. I firmly asked her if it looked like I wasn't busy enough? Wasn't my house clean enough? kids happy & well taken care of? Husband happy & well taken care of? I came to realize that she just never really liked her children all that much & was jealous of our peaceful life. i have been home for almost 20 years & don't plan on doing anything different.
Such a great video. I quit working after becoming a mother and think it’s awesome you are ahead of the game. I have no desire to ever return to the corporate workforce. I hear mother’s constantly say they can’t wait to go back to work or they are “bored” at home. I can’t keep up with all I want to do and don’t think I could ever be bored. Our homes are such a sacred place and I have no regrets surrounding our life around an “at home” atmosphere. It’s the one place you have ultimate control over and are your own CEO. It’s amazing the looks you get from people when you say this, but I notice it’s mainly from “normies” or folks doing the mainstream approach to life.
When we bought our first house prekids, we wondered why we weren’t struggling financially more. It was because our house was as out of town and we stopped eating out. It was an instant raise.
I think slashing the budget is easy when you are home all the time.
When I was in junior high school in the early 70’s we had Home Economics classes for girls. I have a small collection of vintage homemaking books that I cherish, including a homemaking book written by Harriet Beecher Stowe and her sister Catherine!! You are sharing God’s truth about the value of homemaking. Keep it up, Kelly! 🙏🏻👍👏

@@homewithkelli LOL the vintage books are from well before my time. I have always enjoyed the domestic arts and found the books on thrift shops over the years, except for a 50’s home economics textbook that was a gift from our oldest son. 💕

I’ve done both beginning with staying at home when my children were small and now working a corporate job. The corporate world is so incredibly toxic. I long to be at home again. I feel like that is absolutely where my heart is. I pray God would open the door for that for me. God bless you Kelli for all your encouragement! Thank you!

Just today I went out for an appointment. I am pregnant with our 4th. The nurse asked me if I was working today; my response was, "no, I'm a stay-at-home-mom" and I immediately realized how I slighted myself in my response. My work is precisely being a stay-at-home-mom, home-schooler, and home-maker. It's conditioned into us to devalue ourselves for not having what most people would call a career. So I appreciate you speaking on this.
Also, your "Home Ec" experience reminded me of my own: we were tasked with making a stew as a class in grade 1, and my job was to peel a potato. The potato I was given had a bump on it which caused me to drop the potato in the trash multiple times as I peeled, because the peeler would get caught on it. The teacher became visibly and audibly annoyed with me for dropping it, instead of trying to understand my struggle. Later in my school life, I could never decide on a career; my true dream was to be a home-maker but I was made fun of. I then became a feminist and neglected my dreams in my 20s, but now my husband and I are living the dream. I had to go through a lot of de-programming to embrace this "traditional life", but it's been absolutely worth it and I am so grateful to God for Him going before me and showing me the way.

And isn't that interesting with the home ec classes- wild that you also had that same experience!! I have always felt this in my heart and soul but sadly went along with society to get along. I worked when I wanted to be home. I’ve been home and felt guilty for not being in the workforce bring home a pay check. I can’t wait to learn more from you. You are very wise woman and I greatly appreciate you sharing. Loved this chat. It is a shame as the guilt we are made to feel is ridiculous for not working full time. I work 2 days a week. I took the full year off with my son after he was born and then went back to my job and negotiated just 2 days a week as I didn’t want to work anymore but the looks and the questions you get about not working full time…wow. I value my homemaking and job as a mum and a wife so much more than anything in the world. I feel I can add value to my son, my husband, to our home. I am not as stressed on days I’m not working, I can give more to others, provide more. It is a happier more content home for all.
I strongly advocate for people like you and Scott to keep speaking your experience from your perspective and God’s word. I wish I had stumbled across you when I was 15 years old. Fortunately the internet didn’t really exist then…

When I finally and very reluctantly stopped working, God started blessing our home. It took so much stress from my husband. He is able to focus 100% on his role as a Father and provider. It was the best thing I could have done for my family. I can’t even imagine working outside of my home now! It sounds horrible😂 Even when my kids are grown, I will continue to be a homemaker❤
Wow. Such wisdom and truth. I have such unspeakable joy right now. I have truly struggled to understand my worth and value to The LORD as a keeper at home. I have been seeking to understand why He has called us to this and am so thankful to have listened to this video. As a homemaking & homeschooling mama to four boys it can be so hard sometimes to do all of the things. Especially if you don’t fully understand that it is all a good thing in The LORD’s eyes. Loved this talk Kelli! I really started growing in my homemaking journey these last two years and learned the value of it. It can get very annoying when people ask if I will ever work or “don’t you want to use your degree?” 🙄 my answer is always “I do work, HARD, but I work within my home for my husband and family not for a company.” I feel like women who ask me these questions look at me with pity like why would you ever want to do that and I think the same about them why would you ever want to work outside your home when there is so much work and opportunity to be found here ❤️🙏🏻

Wow, this was so insightful! I was working as a scientist in academia but i did not want to continue, so i am home with my daughter since 5 years. I always felt guilty but i just never felt happy in my job. Caring for my home, husband and daugther brings me so much more joy even if we have to be strict with our finances. I do have a small etsy shop i do from home because i enjoy it but it only contributes very little to the household income. I am listening to you and just feel I should share my experience in case it will help someone else. After our daughter graduated and left for college I felt useless. I had homeschooled all through to graduation then….now what? I ended up volunteering at a local pro-life pregnancy center but was asked to take a management job there. I convinced my husband I should do this and though I had many wonderful years there, I am convicted that my husband was absolutely not the focus of my life. I was so wrapped up in my clients that I thought only of them. I realize this is just what ministry is much of the time but in doing “God’s Work” I had neglected my first priority. As the years went by, power struggles and conflicts sneaked into the pregnancy center and working there became a huge trial. I brought home all that stress and in so much turmoil, I couldn’t sleep. I sought out everyone’s input and somewhat my husband’s input. I finally left the ministry but I must tell you that the whole episode has been a huge mental and spiritual burden for me. So to your point, our husband’s mission and our home together is our first priority and even when we think we doing good outside the home, we need to get our priorities straight.
So WAY back when I went to school, they actually taught a class called “home economics”, which was sewing, cooking, effectively running a household. How times have changed! Thank you for inspiring young/or not so young women to maybe put family and home ahead of an unsatisfying career.
We have a saying back home in West Africa that applies to many of the statements made in your presentation. In response to an especially profound delivery that left the listener in total agreement but at a loss for words, they could only respond with- "For True, For True!" As the Scripture says, "Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter!" John 3:19-20. Our twisted culture has edged God out of nearly every facet of God-ordained living, stripping away the beauty and leaving behind what amounts to emptiness and a striving after the wind. Thank you for the expressions of TRUTH.

Amen. The thought of putting my children in day care for 8-10 hours a day was never an option. The thought of it always frightened me. 😊
You’ve hit the nail on the head, friend! I’ve been a mother for 12 years, and a SAHM for almost 10. It was all I ever wanted. I knew it was right, but you’ve taught me how to verbalize all the reasons why it is right. It was difficult learning to manage my home, with a 2 and a half and I had a newborn. I went from the workforce, directly into the home. It should never be that way. Women should be at home enjoying it, making it our castle and haven, setting up the order of the home, the functions, the flow to prepare for a family. I didn’t have that luxury and I’m honestly still learning. I’m sure that never really changes, but I was at such a disadvantage. Raised in a home with a working mother, I never learned the skills of homemaking either. I also had no experience with babies… that was rough when my first one came along, and my Mom was still working… I had no help! TH-cam and books became my teachers. Anyway, the Lord has brought me a long way. Thanks for your video of truth. You’re doing such a service to your fellow women of virtue.

Excellent video and so spot on! Due to unfortunate circumstances beyond my control, I was unable to stay home with my children although I desperately wanted to. I could see then the value of having a wife and mother in the home. How different our society would be today if the world could see this. I am a homemaker now for the past 2 years and what a blessing and joy it is, to me and my husband.
I remember my life in the workplace was so incredibly draining. I didn’t even have time to care about my husband’s emotional needs because I was so spent when I came home…I am so thankful we chose to have me come home before we had babies. It provided us with so much freedom and fun to just enjoy being a young married couple, which set us up for success when the babies did eventually come! Also, it wasn’t a financial adjustment for me on top of being a new mother, I already knew how to budget and run the household so it was an easy transition.

This is so helpful, I finished working in a Christian school after 24 years. Not going to have kids as that opportunity has long passed but am now at home the majority of the time and feeling a little lost .Thank you for this.

Excellent! I’m subscribing and sharing. I’ve been a stay at home mom for 20 years and I wished I had more information on being economical and frugal in my early years. Also, I have found a playlist someone put together called Vintage Homemaking with videos from maybe the 40s but definitely the 50’s. Back then the government was praising the homemaker and how much she contributes to the home. There was even a home economics college course that was highlighted. Don’t see that today 😮

Excellent video! So informative. I went to college in the 90s and took classes that I liked and found a degree to match it...Home Economics. Except we called it Consumer Economics because everyone then said "oooh economics! You must be so smart!" instead of laughing derisively thinking home economics is for simpletons. If it is so simple, then why do women struggle so much with aspects of it? Why do so many women in the work force feel like failures at home?
I cannot express my joy and excitement in hearing your message. I hope this is the beginning of the turning of our nation back to its past relationship with God. I miss the time when men were men and women were women. Homemaking was valued, children cherished, marriage vows upheld. I will continue to pray. Please continue to share your message.

Thank God I bumped into your videos. My dream job is a homemaker but we're not in a position to do so. But I agree having women working outside the home was set up so we won't have time for our family. The way God originally set it up is perfect. I try my best with working outside the home to make time for my husband and kids. We homeschool, I've been making my own cleaning supplies before I knew it was a cool thing to do lol and I love cooking homemade meals. I have no desire to be a "boss babe." I used to be a modern woman of not needing a man and all that garbage. Glory to God that He delivered me from that Jezebel spirit. I desire to submit. Thank you for your videos. I often feel like I’m born in the wrong century, I’d love to go back to regency and enjoy what it was like to run one’s home and not have to work. But u are right we are forced to go out to work these days but it is a different world now the only thing I love about my job is that I get to chat to lots of people. I’ve just found your channel and am a new subscriber. I’m in my 50’s now and waiting to retire but will probably be signed off as disabled eventually with my scoliosis. I’ve had a week off work holiday and my back is fine no problems but at work it’s made worse standing too long or sitting too long but even at home if I do too much I do notice pain but I’m not gonna let it beat me and I’ll have a nice cozy home once it’s been renovated and everything is looking nice and feels like our home.

Schools are obsolutely getting rid of Home Ec classes. When myself and my sister were in middle school (twenty years ago), we had a pretty robust home ec course (learning to cook, sew, balance the home budget), but the time my youngest sister got to school (nine years younger than us) it had been done away with.

Me and my husband don’t have kids and I only work part time in my area there are only part time jobs available in retail unless u want to be management. I work two days and at home the rest but I do volunteer for a local charity and I’m secretary for my churches ladies group. But it has aloud me to be able to care for my hubby who has just had an operation and is off work sick for two months. Luckily we don’t have a mortgage to pay for . I’ve also been diagnosed with scoliosis which can be painful at times. But I love being content with what I’m doing and caring for my home. It takes a bit of time with my back pain but I get there x
I feel like I went from the other side of the spectrum to wanting to be a homemaker. It all came from fear to rely on someone therefore wanted to protect myself. When I met my husband, he showed himself as he is and I fully trust him. Then I wanted to have a baby with him more than anything in the world. I’m 4 months pregnant and he is deployed and I KNOW that God will bring him back safely and that we will be a happy little family ♥️ and I look forward to be there for the baby and not outsource that care
Side note - I'm fortunate enough to have cleaners come every two weeks to help me keep on top of things and yet I STILL don't stop as a homemaker! I do have three kids under five, with no extended family around at all to take the pressure off caring for them. But I salute you Moms who have absolutely zero outside help with any of your homemaking. So grateful for these videos that remind me of the true, Divine nature of this role, and the dysfunction of our western society that does not recognize that.
I work so hard all day long! Being a homemaker is a full-time job.
When I told my godfather that I wanted to be a stay-at-home mom, his exact words.... "Kasey, you're better than that." As if raising my children, and keeping my home, we're not worthy goals.
I know I'm a bit of a throwback, I do my laundry by hand, and that's a lot of work in and off itself.
Cleaning, cooking, gardening, yard work, home maintenance, doing things like sewing curtains. Being a homemaker means that you're making a lot of the stuff for the home that otherwise would have been bought if both parties were working. But being a homemaker you "have the time" to do that. And then when you have children you have two full-time jobs. Being a mom, and being a homemaker.
And then, if you are like myself, and a lot of other mom's i know, you end up with three full-time jobs. Homeschool principle, homemaker, and Mom.

Also, I never even had the opportunity to take home economics in school so I’m surprised it still existed for you.

Such an excellent video. We need to revive the teaching of home economics classes to our daughters and nieces....and while at it infuse the value of routine prayer and bible study in our homes...in ddition to the meal preperation, gardening and the care of children.
