Math nerd here, swapping knowledge with English nerd! You referred to a change in a circle's radius affecting the area exponentially. Exponential growth refers to functions in the form y = k^x, where k is a constant and x is your independent variable. The equation for a circle's area is in the form y = kx^2, which is quadratic growth. Your point that a change in the radius grows or shinks the area much faster than a linear change is not lost, though.
bah, humbug
@@jubbsticksmusicMathematics, a humbug? Surely you don’t mean that!
Yes!!! I was thinking the same thing
it looks so much better without the pseudo green screen, even though the camera is the same it looks much more professional cause youre not constantly disappearing
When there's gameplay in the background, I like the greenscreen because it blocks less of the footage.

@@SimoneBellomonte What's the point of using slang or abbreviations if you're going to explain them? If someone didn't both already know what those terms were *and* realize you were explaining the terms, then your message would look like an incomprehensible bot-written jumbled mess of random words and symbols.
I thought the Reefslider buff was unnecessary, but I do think it's an interesting enough change that I'm not gonna pitch a fit. I appreciate buffs that aren't just 'numbers go up.'
For the Ink Vac, one underappreciated reason why this is a huge buff is because the vast majority of the damage you're likely to take as an Ink Vac user is actually from wading in enemy ink.
It only takes a single shot to make it through the vac, either from bad vacuum placement or even just because online quirks, to be stuck standing in ink. And it happens ALL the time. If you get stuck in enemy Ink, you are a 1 hit kill for every single weapon the instant the vacuum drops. Super vulnerable and unlikely to be able to get your explosion shot off without perfect timing.
As far as a functional QOL change, and for making it more useful and consistent, this might be the biggest buff Ink Vac has ever received.
Plus it gives the vac user way more options and mobility, especially if a splatana or roller is dashing towards them, they can move backwards or strafe more easily
*devs playtesting Vac against Decavitator*: "...oh this sucks"
I feel like the whole "accuracy hurts painting" concept is one of the biggest misconceptions around. Especially because the opposite is actually the reality. Accuracy helps you paint deliberately and output the maximum amount of turf your weapon is capable of. It's one of the reasons why top level Turf War always uses Splash or Reeflux.
“N-ZAP didn’t get an accuracy buff, it got a painting nerf” -said no one ever
Accuracy only hurts painting for little Timmy who paints by running forward while shooting. This is a valid reason to have some inaccurate weapons in the game, but it hardly justifies keeping poor accuracy on weapons intended for players who actually know what they're doing.
The jumping shots with stringers have one other advantage to make one-shots easier: When the stringer's vertical shots fall they land in a much tighter cluster than the horizontal shots. Stringers often like to let their bolts drop down on the target's head to get extra range or go over cover and a jump shot will turn a single direct hit from a falling shot into a one-shot splat in most situations.
In regards to the splash wall buffs that a lot of weapons seem to get: I don't think squeezer and 52 were ever even a consideration for why those buffs got put in place. If you notice, every single one of those weapons that got that damage to splash wall buff is a short range weapon. They were designed to be up front, fast, blitzing weapons, and I think the devs felt splash wall was hampering that identity too much. Now whether or not that is the reality of it in-game, I'm uncertain, but I think that might have been the rational. Otherwise, why specifically those short-range weapons? Why not others like the Jet Squelcher or the N-Zap or the Splash?
As for the reef slider buff, I don't think it's going to impact slider cheese. As it stood before the patch (the balance and map changes are out now for those who didn't know), the slider already inked the ground as it travelled. I can only see two ways this can impact cheese at all, and I don't think either are going to be common or result in a significant number of game changing caps that slider cheese wouldn't already do on its own. 1. The ink put down by the rails is enough to make the enemy lose control of the zone before the slider explodes and you cap it. 2. Since ink goes down before the slider travels over it, you can explode the slider early and still get the trail of ink the rails left without the slider having to go the full distance.
Also, for those of you who want to go on recon to check out the map revamps, a general reminder to manage your expectations. I'm not saying to not get excited, but just remember that aside from Barnacle and Hammerhead, these are 11 unannounced map changes. Some of them are significant like Um'ami, some of them are as simple as "there was a small grate added or a short box is here now."
They got rid of the net on umami that kept brushes from spamming clam blitz scoring, flounder heights tallest wall got cut short, hammerhead took out the entire upper grate path in base (was useless anyways). Mixed on some changes but hey no poles at least lol.
@@BlueLeef That is not true. There are now poles in Barnacle and Crableg. They're small and unassuming but they're there.
@@lazarus3100 scratch that bluefins got a massive pole too, largest yet 🤣
I'd say this patch is pretty good just because of the stage redesigns.
I NEED to see some1 review the stages!!! I dont care about all of these useless buffs and nerfs!
@@SimoneBellomonteI mean you can go look for yourself in recon mode
Fun minor fact:
When we talk about something increasing, decreasing, or changing exponentially, we mean that the variable is located in the exponent of the expression. 2^x for example. This is considered a non-polynomial change, which is much more drastic than polynomial changes.
Your radius example is polynomial, specifically you're looking at a quadric change. (A power of 1 is a linear change, 2 is quadratic, 3 is cubic and so on). So pi * r^2 is more accurately described as a quadratic change, which is more drastic than linear but much much much less drastic than exponential as all polynomial changes are.
Now, colloquially, exponential change is used to describe any phenomenon of rapid growth so I generally don't say anything when this mistake is made but because you specifically brought in a math example, claiming a formula represented exponential change that actually didn't, I thought I'd make that clarification for those interested.
As someone who played Dapples & Crab Sword a lot in rainmaker, that rainmaker bugfix is SO nice!! I cannot tell you how many times I’ve died to the rainmaker shield from a charge slash or dodge roll
🎵they didn't nerf the meta

Regarding the Squeezer change and turbo controllers: There are different ways that turbo controllers handle automatic mashing. Some controllers handle turbo on a per-button basis, and these often have preset speeds such as 5 Hz, 12 Hz, 15 Hz, or 20 Hz. Other controllers allow you to set a custom macro. The squeezer can fire at 7.5 Hz (every 8 frames). This means that any controller in the first category would have to drop to a setting lower than 7.5 Hz, which often results in inefficiency (e.g. dropping to 5 Hz means you splat in 36 frames instead of 24). A controller in the second category could just be programmed to fire at whatever the highest possible rate is that does not trip the new slowdown to fire rate.
a very small correction you say a turbo controller could make it so that it inputs zr every frame but that is not faster than any human can mash, because "pressing it every frame" simply means "holding" to the game. youd have to do a frame on a frame off and repeat that over and over again, resulting in an inputs per second which equals half the game's framerate at best. My brother has a turbo controller and that one has 8cps, 12cps and 20cps though. 30 is still very very fast, but pressing every frame means holding.
i dont mind longer or more rambly vids they are really chill :3
Great video btw Gem!

I really wish they addressed Splattercolor Screen
I win 31% of my ranked games with vanilla e-Liter and 44% with custom. So, at low levels (B- rank player. Power~1000), it's a more powerful kit.
Unless I'm reading this wrong, this means you're losing more games than you're winning?
@@tarosykes Yes. In all modes except tower control - which is 50%.
I still can't help but feel like cooler in general is overtuned.
That said, these start-of-season changes may have been ones that were in the works for a while, and more balance changes are likely to come.
Chara's stream when these notes were posted was insane
instead of dating advice , we got the pizza advice !
I’m down for Reefslider potentially being overtuned tbh, just because it’s been so bad for so long
I WAS 5 MINUTES OFF
Snipewriter 5H doesn't need a nerf, Tacticooler does. The Snipewriter 5B isn't anywhere near as prevelant because the weapon itself is fine.
Exaaaactly, it's literally the fact cooler is saturating most comps. That's fine in itself but it's just got way more positives than other specials and snipewriter just gets it way to often.
hi gem
hi salsa
wait can someone tell me what time he uploads for you guys cause for me its at 10 pm (okinawa)
its 10 am (9:50) right now, it says 20 mins ago so this was uploaded around 9:30 am

a net neutral patch for reeflux deco players
'boo hoo clash blaster deals bonus damage vs my useless sub ): '

'Reeflux is now bow squiffer AND slider is less bad'

You think that's okay to keep?

There's no trizooka nerf PROBABLY BECAUSE Nintendo Splatoon developers don't see an issue. Get over it already dude, the Splatoon developers CLEARLY doesn't see an issue, the developers probably thinks the special is fine how it is. Get over it already people, it's not happening, the Splatoon developers CLEARLY doesn't want to touch it probably because again, they feel like the special is fine how it is
Stop acting as though the devs never listen to community feedback. Also, maybe they aren't aware of the issues with it. Stop acting as though Nintendo doesn't fix things people complain about. Get over pessimism and feel at least a BIT optimistic that since cooler and zooka have been dominating ALL modes, even TURF WAR, it might get foxed in the mid-season patch.
@@Noteturtle90 It might not get fixed too. They might not do anything with the special. If you want change so badly, how about you Splatoon players start creating MASSIVE BACKLASH demanding change to happen. Here's something you should know dude. All these companies that we support, they don't care about any of us. Nintendo, Microsoft, Sony. They all don't care about us. They only care about the money we give them. That's the harsh truth you people CLEARLY don't understand. They don't care about any of us, they care about our money. That's it.
These companies won't do change unless there's a huge backlash going on. Otherwise they won't do anything. Again these companies don't care about any of us. They don't care about our feelings. They only care about our money. The main way nowadays to make changes happen is to create huge backlash.
@@user-John1 if you think Nintendo doesn't listen to us on meta threats that are unhealthy, riddle me this: Why did ballpoint get nerfed when it was relevant? Why did they tone back the insane damage radius they gave to inkjet, which made it the best special in the game? Why was missles fixed? Why are we seeing slider being buffed when it's arguably the overall weakest special in the game? Why was cooler tuned from a weak special to being powerful? Why was kraken cheese fixed? Why did squiffer get zipcaster after more than a year of people begging for it? Why does carbon deco and its burst bomb, one of the most beloved combos in splatoon history, keep coming back? Why are Nintendo making good splatoon gameplay, music and other content if the brand is so popular already, rivaling pokemon in Japan. The answer is that Nintendo DOES recognise that the community is key to a live service game, and that the meta isn't equal and buffs weapons accordingly. This is only the tip of the iceberg for *s3* and they've done a whole bunch more for s1 and s2.
Edit: remember when people wanted kraken to return in s3 and it did later? Fun times.
@@user-John1 Nintendo the whole company, sure. But Nintendo is made of smaller teams that care about the things they make. Nintendo execs probably won't care, but the Splatoon dev team does. They just have a language barrier between them and the western audience, so its more difficult for them to get complaints from a large chunk of their audience.
@@Noteturtle90 the reefslider buff isn't a huge buff. All the buff does is ink along the rails as the rails extend before launch. And the second buff is When the active terrain is moving, the rails will now move along with it. That buff is exclusively for the new map. Most Splatoon 3 maps do not have active terrain. So that second buff isn't gonna do anything for the special for the other maps. Even with these 2 buffs, people are still gonna complain about reefslider. These 2 buffs isn't good enough anyways. You still gonna get killed literally after the special ends. It's still gonna be considered one of the weakest specials.
Trizooka, if they were gonna nerf it, it would have happened many updates ago. We're now near the end of Splatoon 3s life. Even when we get the mid season patch, Trizooka might not get nerf. There's a chance it might get nerf. But there's a chance the developers won't do anything with it at all. If it gets a nerf, there's a chance it might not the nerf you're looking for. Or it could get a buff NOBODY ASKED FOR. If it doesn't get nerf, then you're just stuck with the special how it is now. All these buffs and nerfs will completely stop when the developers are done with the game completely and be stuck with the specials how they are forever.
