I'm currently putting together a Z620 with 2x E5-2697 v2's (24 total cores, 48 total threads), as well as an RTX 2060 and 128 GB of PC3-14900R memory. These systems are such a joy to work on, and the BMW-designed cases are absolutely gorgeous.

Hi, I'm doing something similar but with a z640. I'm having a POST error that I have been trying to diagnose for weeks now without success. Have you encountered a similar problem?

@@jnchacon There is another type of error these systems have that have to do with the second CPU and RAM card not making a good connection when inserted. I'd carefully clean the pins of the power and data connectors on the card and see if that solves your problem. Unless you only have a single CPU, that is, which would mean this doesn't apply to you.

Am just migrating from the HP Z420 running esxi 6.5 (Win 2019 server(s) VMs) to a HP 640 running Proxmox 8.0.4 (running Win 2022 server(s). HP workstations are rock solid. FYI - I updated another Z420 to latest/last bios and can install Win 11 no problem. ie: MS/Win 11 is happy to have it installed. No trickery to get Win 11 working.

Finally a video about Z620. I own a Z620v2 as my main editing workstation - With a E5-2696v2, 160gb of ddr /32gb dimms for a max of 384gb - yes - it does work up to 384, and a RX 480 8GB. Got a 2nd CPU but no CPU Riser to install it yet, that's the next upgrade though. One note - they're really reliable. Renders 24/7 and edits on off-time. Gotta say, nice video to cover an unsung hero! Cheers !

This thing still outperforms modern budget low end CPUs by a lot. I'm usually not a fan of prebuilt computers and i prefer building them myself but i always liked those OEM workstation/business grade computers. They might have some proprietary parts and connectors but they usually don't fail that often to need replacement parts so it's fine

The best thing I've ever gotten that was trashed was an i5 7400 system, with a 128gb NVME boot drive and a 1tb HDD, it was in with a bunch of other computers that were out at the curb at a house that I think had been sitting in probate for a long time and some other family took it over and cleared all the old lady's stuff and the stuff her son that last lived there with her, there were a couple Compaq A64 era Sempron machine that I just stole the HDDs and optical drives out of since they had buldging caps and were based around bumpgate era nvidia chipsets. I ended up with one working AXP Sempron machine out of the two that were there. The HP i5 7400 system didn't seem like had been used much at all, looks like it was probably purchased in 2019, and they guy setup Windows and then partitioned it off and put Ubuntu on it and didn't use it much either, the Samsung SSD only had 13 power on hours on it a few days after I reinstalled Windows on it and played around with it and the HDD was at just under 100, I think the SSD more agressively sleeps than the HDD spins down so most of the hours may have been me.

Some of these older workstations are still great machines to get your hands on, especially if they are being given away.... I have just managed to get my hands on my old CAD workstation which is a Lenovo P720 and whilst the current specs are not huge (1 x Xeon Silver 4210, 16GB RAM, Quadro P2000), there is scope for a lot of pretty cost effective upgrades in the form of a spare CPU slot and up to 384GB of RAM plus 2 x gen 3 M.2 SSDs. I was thinking about using it as my regular PC and putting a decent GPU in there, but even though I could potentially end up with 20 physical cores and a huge amount of memory, the individual core performance is not much over the Ryzen 5 2600X that I am currently running, so I think I shall be using it as a good base for a home lab setup as my wife wants to dive into networking and cybersecurity so running a load of virtual machines will be easy.

My first Z Workstation is Z620.
I love the "Quick Release" or "Tool Less" design.
And also i love how neat is the inside.
But i really hate the "Memory Training Error". I use original HP DDR3 ECC Memory.
Not 1, but 3 Z620 in my workplace are have "Memory training error".
But the other Z620 are realiable.
What i learned when "Memory Training Error" happen, i can press F1 keyboard, still continue load to Windows and continue operating.
But it become a pitfall if not solving the error earlier. Because the Processor workload becomes peak 100% (i read using Performance monitor at Windows Task Manager), and everything become sooo slow, and lagging. When i use it to streaming using vmix.
But when i'm not start the streaming, the system still operating well, the CPU not peak to 100%.
Another thing i hate about Z620, some another Z620 in my workplace , maybe 1 or 2 unit, randomly got 5 beeps error. So i have to doing troubleshoot according to Manual troubleshooting guide.
So i hate Z620 is not so stable.
Z640 in my workplace are more stable. Maybe only 1 Z640 experiencing "Memory Training Error" of it's DDR4.

Hello brother, I have a HP Z620 PC, processor, xeon e5 2620 GPU, AMD R7 370, 12 GB RAM, sometimes it beeps 6 times at normal speed and does not turn on, and it does this 5 times every 3 or 4 seconds. Sometimes I remove and insert the graphics card and it works, sometimes I remove and insert the RAM. It's working, I unplug it, hold down the power button, plug it in again, it's working, I don't understand why, bro.,
