A lil garden tip I learned... If you put wood ash around your vine plants (squash, pumpkin, cucumber, zucchini, etc...) You will not have trouble with squash bugs. They bore into the vines from around the root area and go inside the vine so once they are in, they are in and impossible to save the plant. So it needs to be done before they come along. They do not like ashes and will leave the plants alone if ashes are around. I put a ring of ashes around each plant when they are approx 6 inches tall and again about 2 weeks later. Then they are good to go! I have had success with this for at least 5 years now. Happy gardening!
Jessica! No one’s garden ever looks perfect. Stop pointing out the weeds. You’ve done really really well keeping up with the weeds with this new raised bed system. It’s leap-years ahead of your in ground garden. Much more manageable. I love your rock-herb garden. That is so pretty! Your idea to have the sunflower in the middle of the towers is brilliant. I will plan to do this next year. And tying the trellis to the outer fence is great, too. Solid work.
I would love a video on what you grow and how you use it for skin care, soap, medicinal purposes etc... Your garden is beautiful! The heat and humidity here in New Orleans is killing my plants right now 😔 I am in watering overtime. Prayers and blessings to you and your family! ❤

I’m a second year gardener, so I’m still learning a lot. This was the BEST garden tour video I’ve ever seen, and I have watched a ton of them. I loved seeing what your plants look like versus mine, and the tips you threw in throughout the video were very helpful!
It is a HUGE Blessing to have a garden! And, we do not need it to be pretty - we need productivity! Never need to apologize for placing the importance on where it needs to be - providing food for your family! A strong survival instinct for family overrides. Pretty is "nice" but not necessary. We too have a good size garden (over 1000 sq ft) even though we have considerably downsized because we no longer require it to be so big - and, yet we still find ourselves with more than we need and end up with a free table at the end of the driveway for our neighbors (we live on a rural dirt road) who may need those vegetables. We wish to pass on the blessings God has provided to those in our small community on the dirt road. We have elderly, we have families where everyone works outside of the house and these people may not have the time or energy needed to grow a healthy garden as we do.
If the bunnies are getting your bush beans plant them in the GreenStalk! I’ve done it for two years now and they are always prolific. Plant 2-3 per pocket for the Original and 1-2 in the Leaf. Happy Gardening 😍
Thank you for walking us through your garden! I like how you plant things, putting things together that make sense! Your garden looks nice, not as weedy as you think! I'd appreciate any and all prayers to our Father for healing! I injured my knee (praise the Lord, not before I did some weeding and watering!) and walking has been an extreme challenge. Today I will see my doctor. Please pray for correct diagnosis, proper treatment, and a reduction of pain and swelling, as well as total healing. We've had some nice rain this week. I need to get back out there!!
Beautiful garden 👍 I grew calendula last year for the first time, and put the dried flowers in oil to preserve in the pantry. Now, I don’t know what to do with it so I would love a video on calendula uses!
I would also really enjoy watching videos on making salves, soaps and skin care products using calendula. Thank-you so much for all the helpful videos. I really enjoy watching them.
Jessica ... I live here in ottawa Canada 😊 I do nothing from what you say and show except that I nursed my kids for 2 full straight years with no bottle at all, but really, I love seeing you doing all that keeps me away from feeding my kids junk foods 😂 I'm still sticking to cooking 3 fresh meals a day.

It leaves little room for error. Also, your acceptance of things don’t have to be perfect gives one hope to be able to do it and even if we mess up, it’s useable! Also The way YOU make soaps, creams, and salves. LOVE LOVE LOVE the way you use everything. So different from how I was raised, “a can of this and a can of that = a dish.” The Betty Crocker way, sad 😢. Set two whole generations up for boxed mixes, fast food, and canned mixes.
I certainly hope people dont say mean things about your garden! It is beautiful and abundant! I am also sticking bean seeds everywhere this year in hopes of canning two years ahead...thanks for sharing😊
Hello Jessica. I live in NW Ohio also and love seeing your videos. It is a lot of fun seeing episodes from a part of the world I actually live in. We also had about 3 weeks with no rain but early this week have gotten almost more rain than we need, with cooler temperatures as well. We got our small garden out late and unless we get warmer temps soon we won't have much to show for all our efforts. Regardless, I will still be able to see all you have been able to accomplish in you garden and in all your other videos too. Thanks for sharing!
Hi, Jessica! One tip I learned from TH-cam is to interplant squash and brassicas with plants that have strong fragrance, like marigolds and herbs. So far this year I have no cabbage moths! Keep up the good work!
Loved your tip of growing a sunflower through the bean trellis for stability 🎉 Also the tip of what to do with parsley...it thrives here!!! I'm also growing bee balm, while beautiful... I'm needing ways to harvest it! Thanks for all you share...
I would love to see a video of what you do with calendula… I have a bunch I started this year and I’m just letting them drop their seeds right now in hopes they come back up next year 😂
We Danes are a BIG BIG rhubarb nation , I think it's difficult to find a garden with no rhubarb plants in it. We plant the plants and the first year we don't harvest , but after that we do .. just leave some stalks on the plant , and don't take to many after July.. in spring you put a black bucket over the plant ,just leave a little airflow in the button ,with some sticks .. that way the first rhubarbs will be all red and sweet .. I do that every year and its soooo amazing. After the first month you just take the bucket away and let it be and harvest . It's one of the least maintenance plants you can get ♥️
Thank you for sharing everything you have learned! Your garden is beautiful! I have no idea how you spread your love so evenly into your family and garden. Great job mama!
Wow I don’t know where you find the energy, your garden is great, my garden is smaller now that we are retired but it produces a lot and so does my greenhouse, I love your garden. Thanks Jessica 🌷🇨🇦
I have the green stalk original planters. I am experimenting what grows well in them. I am no gardener like you. You have just inspired me. I chose the original planters because it appears you can grow a larger variety in them. I planted the viney plants along the bottom. I don’t have the space for ground planters. Love this series! Thank you!
I have one leaf and 2 of the original- I prefer the leaf, the originals seem to need watered more often. I’m growing strawberries in the leaf and onions and kohlrabi in the original. First year having them.
@@maryskindacrafty this is my first year using them too. The strawberries are producing berries already but now after hearing that Jessica’s didn’t winter over, I’m wondering if I’ll need to move them in ground? 😕
@@robingirven4570 it depends on where you live and how cold it gets, also on the variety you have planted. I have had strawberries in my Greenstalk leaf planters for 3 years now 👍🏻
U maximize every square inch of that garden Jessica.. I am an urban homesteader so my space is very limited. You have inspired me to do some container gardening and use more of the ground that I do have available. Love your videos, very inspiring.
Our garlic looks horrible from too much rain! We've had half our annual rainfall in the past month and no warm weather or sun. I'm always glad I don't depend entirely on my garden and have the ability to buy what doesn't grow. I'm also learning the importance of growing a wide range of plants so that if we have very cool, wet year, at least things like cabbage, broccoli, and peas do well! I've grown just about everything in Greenstalks! They will be smaller and not produce as much, but they still produce. If that's the only space you have, it's incredible! I have an entire tower of tomatoes and peppers this year. I know it won't be as many as the ones in the ground, but I started so many seeds so it was worth the experiment.
Jessica love that you're growing scallions, cut them small and cook in milk until soft and mix into mash potatoes, here in Northern Ireland we call this champ, very tasty
Enjoyed this video very much! Jessica you’re calming voice is easy to listen to and appreciate your teachings about your gardening. Keep up the great work my friend. Blessings, Cindy
Your garden is beautiful bring back memories of my garden growing up. Your whole homestead does canning every summer planning to have 3-4 quarts of tomatoes a week we planned waht we needed a wek of all the vegetables and fruits. What we could not grow my dad would pick up in The Valley which was in Massachusetts where he worked construction during the summer away from home. I grew up in Southern New Hampshire i live in Vermont now. We also picked up apples 🍏 and wild grapes 🍇 on the side of the road that were free. We also raised steers, pigs and turkeys. We had a meat room we rented out in our basement. I so miss my dad.
You have a beautiful garden. My garden is in full swing I have tons of big tomatoes our weather has been pretty mild so far here in Tennessee. We have so many wild blackberries I told my daughter we need to start picking but those thorns are so brutal but if we want blackberry jam we have to fight the thorns. My squash are not doing well this year it has been very humid. Thank you for showing us your garden and all the tips hope you have a great week.
Your garden IS beautiful. I only have 6 raised beds and a dozen containers with vegetables growing and it takes a lot of time to manage. We had major storms in California and my green house was damage so not using it this season. Your garden is perfect for your family. Love your videos.
I love your garden. I’d take the plants you have any day! :) I tried to do a pretty idea for garden but honestly the veggies are what is most beautiful. You did good! Having a baby and gardening for large family is a great accomplishment!! Happy harvest soon. ❤
I am interested in videos of the things you make with calendula. I loved seeing your garden! It gave me lots of ideas. I am headed out now to pinch the tops off of my pepper plants.
Your garden looks so beautiful. Good job! We got started late again this year, but we got it almost all in. The only thing we have been able to harvest yet is green onions and garlic chives. But we have a lot popping up, and it’s so satisfying to see all the green! We got the fence weeding done this week. Hard, hard work, but so satisfying and beautiful when all done.
Strawberries between the asparagus crowns…..keep the weeds down and you get strawberries while the asparagus matures, phase out the strawberries in the next couple of years…..try to mulch with straw, bales cost here $10, and I reuse it from beds to potatoes to squash, to cover the beds for the winter, until it essentially breaks down, I get about two to three seasons from a couple of bales….just suggestions….❤your garden
I'm in florida, and I garden in raised beds and containers. I find that if I mulch the beds and containers my moisture and soil health maintains and plants are happier.
Great garden tour and informative. I’m just getting into growing and the more successful I am the more beds I’m adding, 😅addictive. Just ordered 2 more raised beds, loving being outdoors and seeing everything grow. However I’m a novice so your experience is invaluable to me. Thank you
At the Walmart in SW Ohio they are clearancing out their flower bulbs. In the same display they had asparagus crowns for $1.62! (Maybe a fall project might be putting landscape fabric under your fence line?)
I love your garden, almost as much as mine.😀 mine is much smaller, but every year I learn something and every year it gets better and better. I've always wanted to grow lettuce, and every year it's bitter and bolts. Last year I just let it bolt, and left it in as it was planted to edge my garden. This year I had so much volunteer lettuce because it re seeded itself. Now I have beautiful lettuce, it's not bitter because it came up so early and I've had several harvests from it. So happy about that. My radishes have bolted, but last year I took your advice and harvested the pods. I pickled a lot of them and use them like I would for pickle relish. Very good and my kids love it in things like egg salad. I love going on garden tours, so thank you for sharing. ❤
Becky from Acre Homestead has a natural weed spray recipe on her TH-cam channel that I love for my fence rows. You just have to be careful to spray low to avoid your plants in the buckets/pots. It's super handy to avoid having to hand weed!
I think it's beautiful! I live in an apt with no outdoor space, plus I'm not great with plants, and I just love your garden! I'd love to have one someday though! Thank you for sharing ... I hope your garden blossoms and is blessed with abundance! GBU
I use buckets to grow tomatoes also, our growing season is so short (105 days) it is easier to start them in the garage and put them out after the last frost in mid-June.
Raised beds are great doe determinate potatoes so you might have planted the correct type. Interminate require hilling. I love your gardens, you do so well. You could try some beneficial companion plants such as marigolds, marjoram (this is the best herb to plant with almost everything), okra and nasturtiums. I let my marigold go to seed then transplant them everywhere. You can grow radish, carrots, dill, chives, tomatoes, oregano in with your peppers, and most of these with your tomatoes.
Hello my dear, WOW what an incredible garden you have, it looks beautiful!! I so love listening to you talk about your garden and can hear the passion you have for it!! You are so knowledgeable about all of your plants. Enjoy the rest of your week, looking forward to Sundays video!
Thank you for showing your garden as is. I haven't watched garden tours this year but your is just real. And thank you for stating how beautiful your garden is to YOU. Gardens are beautiful and a blessing
I love every one of your videos, you accomplish sooooo much! I definately would like to see a video with your calendula harvest and preservation....salve making etc. Also love your garden hat. Where did you get it? I need one like that ;) Thank you Jessica for taking the time to video your sweet kidos and so much of what you do, your are an inspiration! May God continue to Bless you and your family so abundantly.
Your garden looks great! I noticed some of your beds are bowing out a bit... Mark at Self Sufficient Me had that problem too and showed how he installed some internal rods for support.
Beautiful job Jessica it looks like you will be blessed this year. We have had a lot of rain here in Maine I got tomatoes, and beet greens and carrots in a greenhouse i made with recycled windows and door and lumber. I got out side, kale, cucumbers, pepper, cabbage I am doing raised beds for them I also have grapes, hops, cherries, herbs, tons of strawberries I have to divide, elderberrys, apples, raspberries, rhubarb.
💚 Garden is looking good, thanks for the June tour! I love that short-handled Hoola Hoe-I've never seen one before. I've ever done anything with Garlic Scapes before..my brother just harvested his 😊 💚
I haven't read all the comments but I think that your garlic is looking the way it is because it's just about ready to harvest. That's normal looking garlic for this time of year.
My garlic usually yellows on the bottom two leaves when it's ready to harvest in July. This yellowing of the whole plant is probably due to the fact that it didn't rain in over a month. The plants are stressed.
Mine usually yellows and dries fully on the bottom two leaves but yellows on the tips on all the other leaves. Either way you are a great gardener and I pray you have an amazing harvest. Love watching your channel. It's my favorite thing to do as I rest after church on Sundays.

Very good and my kids love it in things like egg salad. I love going on garden tours, so thank you for sharing. ❤
Thank you for sharing your garden! I have a tiny garden and … now I want to expand it. ❤
Terrific tour!! Your garden is coming along beautifully. Will pray you have rain soon. God Bless.
I hope you all are safe after hearing about the tornado's. I look forward to your next video. ❤
Yes please show us the skin care! I’m growing calendula for the first time this year and I would love a tutorial!
I am going to make some garlic scape pesto this weekend with my CSA garlic scapes. I am excited!

Yes I would like to see some soap and different creams making
I haven't read all the comments but I think that your garlic is looking the way it is because it's just about ready to harvest. That's normal looking garlic for this time of year.
My garlic usually yellows on the bottom two leaves when it's ready to harvest in July. This yellowing of the whole plant is probably due to the fact that it didn't rain in over a month. The plants are stressed.
Mine usually yellows and dries fully on the bottom two leaves but yellows on the tips on all the other leaves. Either way you are a great gardener and I pray you have an amazing harvest. Love watching your channel. It's my favorite thing to do as I rest after church on Sundays.
always love learning about calendula!
Great garden! Hope you have tons of produce!
