Thank you for this video! I've been interested in this since my S1 + Lumix 24-70 f/2.8 is such a hefty combo. I love Panasonic's 24-70 but only really opted for that one because of the focus clutch. But now the S5ii + Sigma 24-70 is really tempting for an equal but significantly lighter combo
@@AlexCruzHaha I stayed with Canon. Just really like their bodies. I'm now on R5 and added a 100-500 too. If I was back a few years though before going full frame, I'd strongly consider Panasonic. The value is hard to beat.
Exactly! Exactly, this is the zoom lens and camera combo I was hoping to find on the internet. Thanks for your review. Sounds like u really like the Sigma 24-70 f2.8 paired up with the Panasonic-Lumix S5II. Have you attempted to utilize this combo inside an art museum getting shots of oil paintings. If so, how did it work out? 😎😎
Great review! I’ve been using this lens with the S5 at work (museum) for both photo and video with really pleasant results. One thing I do find a bit challenging though - especially with manual focus for video - is the focus ring smoothness; it could have a bit more stiffness/resistance for my taste. As far as I know, SIGMA does enable their L-mount lenses (via a firmware update) to have their focus throw changed in the camera settings. I haven’t tried that because I don’t have the SIGMA firmware-adapter piece… Not 24-70mm, but the SIMGA 28-70mm is another great choice with great image quality/value for money for the L-mount (way smaller and lighter).
All L mount lenses as far as I’m aware actually get their firmware updates directly from the camera. So when you go to firmware update section in the camera, it should automatically install the newest lens firmware if you have the files on the sd card.
Is the weight in hand significant compared to the 28-75 on the s5ii? Also, how do you manage sharing nd filters between it and the 67mm threaded primes? Step up filter? thanks!
Amazing lens, I recently bought this one second hand. However, I noticed that the focus ring is pretty smooth, almost to smooth if that make sense. It’s very touch sensitive. I own also the sigma 35mm 1.4 and that focus ring is pretty rough, not so smooth at all so I’m a bit confused. Question: is it normal that it’s super sensitive focus ring on the 24-70mm ?
lovely review. Im currently shooting fuji but want to invest in the s5ii with this lens. Is the afs focusing bad? has it improved in any way since the launch of the camera?
Hi! Im really in pain right now trying to figure it out if I go with the 24-70 2.8 or the 24-105 4.0. Do you think F4 is a deal braker for low light in the S5ii? Loved your content. Keep it up.
How to tell early copies from more recent copies? There's a secondhand one at a local camera shop but how to tell if the dust issue has been fixed? Is there a serial number range?
Didn't have a budget for multiple lenses so opted for this until I can get more. However, I've to find that this does the job very well. Don't need another lens for a while.

@@manescuemanuel1536 there is a setting with face detection but just for the center of the frame. They need a firmware update to tighten up the algorithm for autofocus. You might find it jumping to another face you don't intend on being the subject.
Why would you shoot video in S mode? I use it with my S1, but I am always in manual mode. With S1 in C mode, you may hear the noise because the autofocus in S1 sucks. With my S5iix, it is silent.
Because it is not a cine lens, "jerks" when changing aperture are to be expected with a non-cine standard zoom lens... there is no reason to mention it.

You can use linear autofocus with S5ii, which is much better then mechanical focus, because you can define the focus throw youself. I like to have around 3 cm ring travel to cover my usable focus range of let's say between 1m and 10 meters. You can forget about this with mechanical photo lenses (there are few exceptions)
@@ryszardzokowski812 Hey, could you confirm if all focus throw options work for Sigma 24-70 on your panasonic s5ii? I never tried it with a SIGMA, I own only Lumix lenses, and the properly working LINEAR mode is a deal-breaker for me. Thanks ! :)
You can phisiclly feel when s5II switches to DFD AF if you have sigma lenses. In PDAF its nice and smooth, in DFDAF it struggles and cracking. try FHD 50p vs 25 p full frame mode.

Not really. Yes, it should, but it doesn’t mean that it will work perfectly. It was just as bad with the first S5. The solution is to enable PDAF in AF-S mode, not to fix something with DFD.

WARNING! The Bokeh on this lens wide open is not at all creamy when the depth of field isn't that great, so, often, closer to 24mm it's super jarring for bokeh, nothing soft about it. Any idea how this lens compares to the Lumix 24-105 in terms of sharpness at F4?
You won't see much difference in terms of sharpness on a 24 MP sensor.
