    Hi Dougal, Jen & Cassidy,
    I just found your channel today and have started watching your videos from the beginning. I am having a Sirena 58 built for me and hope to be having adventures similar to yours in about a year when it is done. I enjoy watching people like you so I can learn from your travels and also see what I have to look forward to.
    I have noticed in reading comments on your videos and others that I follow that there is no shortage of people with negative comments that feel they must tell you how to live your life. I've always been from the school of if you have nothing good to say, then don't say anything. As a parent of an only child myself who is now a veterinary neurologist and one of the most amazing women on the planet one of the first things I took from your videos is how lucky Cassidy is. First you both seem like amazing, loving, caring parents and Cassidy will be having life experiences that she will build on and cherish for a lifetime. I truly love your family and your adventure and I'm looking forward to seeing what's yet to come. I'm excited for my own adventures and hope that our paths cross on the water someday. You mentioned maybe coming to Florida to look for boats. If you are ever in the Clearwater Beach/Tampa area feel free to contact me anytime.       +Paul V - Thank you for the kind words. It’s definitely an unconventional lifestyle and we expected when putting these videos up for public consumption that there would be no shortage of opinions and “advice”. We are pretty adept at filtering out a lot of it.
      That said, it has been really great to get so much positive interest and engagement and we really try to reply to everyone that has questions or interesting information to share.
      Finally, things are still very dynamic with respect to selling our boat and trying to get a different one but we may have some news to share soon and it is possible we could end up in Florida for a period of time. We will remember your offer!

    One man at the marina told me once the two happiest moments in your boat ownership are
    1* when you buy it.
    2* when you sell it.
    I love this cat , was reading the Dufour's blog and convinced me.
    But besides of the marina cost and availability of docking the important thing is when you buy a Nordie Or Kadey is a future paycheck in your pocket. It is what it is. One cat passagemaker that can beat that question can be the Sunreef 70 power but definitely another league. Enjoy your MS56 Great ship !!

    So smart to look at other boats.....We’ve found in our search, for our needs, that Nordhavn has the best! Love the airline portion btw, I’m a retired US Airways pilot. When we finally fully retire, wife is retired teacher but I still teach pilots to fly biz jets, we will buy a Nordhavn and cruise the East coast and Bahamas.....then we hope to go to Alaska!
    Can’t wait to keep seeing what you guys decide on and your next adventures!😎😎😎👍👍👍

    I bought an Osmo Pocket and have been thoroughly pleased with it. My best footage was video'ing my granddaughter, 7, on a dancefloor at a christmas family day event at a club. She was dancing very well and I was able to cirlce her at the same time. Really really cool footage. I also used it on Christmas morning to get footage of everyone opening presents. Planning on making great use of the Osmo Pocket more and more.

    Have you considered a Tug? I'm a big proponent of refitting Tugs into Expedition Yachts. Once you extract the behemoth engines they have and repower with something more befitting the new mission, you'll have freed up a lot of hull volume. To keep her on her lines you'll likely want to fill the belly with lead, but having all that ballast hunkered down as low as possible will only ad to her stability. Its a large undertaking, but in the end you'll pay a lot less for the Expedition Yacht and you'll have all the amenities you need.

      David Blakock - sounds like something like that could be a rewarding project. And not an idea that I’d discount out of hand. But realistically to be able to get back out cruising actively on a new boat we are going to need something more turn key.

      Rules and regulations will make this very difficult. Over 300 tons you have to be SOLAS compliant over 400 tons and also MarPol applies. Anything over 20 meters and 100 metric tons square needs to under class in the Netherlands starting Jan 1st 2019. So many Tugs will be rendered worthless in just a few days.

    I'd be living on the biggest Nordhavn I could afford. If you were into sailing the Hallberg Rassy 54 is the boat. Good luck with the search.

    Have enjoyed your uploads. Glad you opted out on the Cat. We have owned about 9 boats with the largest being a 58 Hatteras. Now have a 32 Nordic Tugs. Each boat could be considered the right boat for that time in our lives. My biggest concern regarding the Cat is how difficult and expensive it would be to get berths. Given you have a child on board I suspect access to a marina would be more important than to an older couple or empty nesters. We are in the latter category and I am sure my wife would not be happy to anchor out most all the time. There is a Nordhavn 46 for sale here in San Diego that is going to sell at a very good price. Needs some work but good bones. I don't have any vested interest in this but would be happy to provide some useful info if you are interested. I made a run at it so can share some insight. We would have to give up our current slip so we will stay with the Nordic Tugs for now. Good luck with your search.

      sandiegowildcat - Thanks for your comment. You are right about difficult and expensive for berths. Also difficult to find a place with a wide enough travel lift to haul in some parts of the world. Our plan while cruising is to try to stay out of marinas as much as possible - because it is one way to control expenses - but realistically we do spend time in marinas. And it's easy to try to convince ourselves that with a large boat like domino that would be a relatively comfortable platform on the hook that we could stay out of marinas even more than usual, but it does limit how you can use the boat without an unlimited budget. And like you say, its not just cost but finding space for a boat that large with a 22 foot beam.
      We love San Diego and have had a few boats in the water there at various times over the past 20 years. Don't think I am familiar with the 46 on the market there but thanks for the heads up. At this point, just because of all the transaction and transition costs associated with selling one boat and getting into another boat, we don't want to do it more than once and likely want something that not a project. I realize there's always something to do on a boat and we'd assume we'd put in some new electronics on any boat, but would prefer to keep it to a minimum. And I think we are looking for something different than the N46 even though they are very proven ocean crossers.

    Nicely done video. My wife is hesitant on passage makers due to the typical speed limitations. One of the brands we like for accommodations, speed capability, design and build quality is Flemming. They're pricy and they're not Nordhavn, but might be worth a look. Good luck on your search.       Steve Cieri - thanks. The speed thing is definitely a mindset to which one needs to adjust. Jen had the same fears but adjusted to the lifestyle pretty well. The one thing I'll say is as long as the conditions aren't brutal, being on passage in one of the slow passagemakers is not much different than being in an anchorage as to what you can do, i.e. read, cook, small boat projects, look out the window, etc. because the autopilot is steering the boat and its usually just a nice ride.
      The Flemings have a good reputation and are capable boats. But like the Outer Reef line that someone else suggested, my understanding is that they are all semi displacement hulls with relatively limited tankage and therefore not what I'd want in an ocean crosser. We actually anchored in the same cove as Tony Fleming on his boat Venture this summer up in Alaska while he was back up there exploring and filming. If you haven't seen the videos he makes, they are worth watching and Tony has a great voice for narration. Incidentally, I think I read that he ships his boat to some of the more remote locations he has visited before exploring locally.

    You should have a look at the Kadey Krogen 48 Whaleback ... lots of volume. Nice second cabin for Cassidy! Krogen has few on their Brokerage page ... if you like the look, they are good boats!

    I've owned a lot of boats in my life, still haven't found a cure for two-footitis. I can see where this boat could work well for a couple alone but I'd say that's as far as it goes. Altering it for a larger family or guests would cost more than simply finding the right boat for you and the family.

      Good Guy - in the end that was what we decided. The performance specs of the big car are super impressive but we would have ended up with a way bigger project that we want to get into. The boat we settled on is turn key and has everything we were looking for.

    if you are looking for a power catamaran, have a look at silent yacht, and get in contact with Mr. Köhler. It might be a solution. Me and my family where fixed on nordhavn. We couldnt find anything better than Nordhavn. until we found silent yacht. Its maybe not better than nordhavn but hav a look at it. smile.     Yeah..a friend of mine did the same thing. Although it looks huge there is not a lot of below deck space. Yes, he did discover that it would not fit into a standard marina berth. He had to take two, ouch. Big saloon, small cabins, poor storage. For that kind of money you could get a schooner and travel the world using the wind.

    You should checkout the Aquila 44, realizing that you will need to add fuel bladders for the Pacific crossing.

      S Newlamd - thanks for the suggestion. I’ve read first hand reports from delivery captains who have brought short and wide power cats like that across the Atlantic and the resounding theme is that the ride a brutal in some sea conditions. My understanding that cats are outfitted for chartering in the Caribbean tend to be heavier than one would want for ocean crossing performance and can have a punishing “slam” from the wing deck.
      The design of the Domino 20 is supposed to eliminate this slam, but the trade off is obviously that it becomes a very minimalist boat - especially for the length.
      All of that said I’m very intrigued by power cats and will read more about the Aquila.

    You really need to check out Outer Reef. Stable, efficient, can cross oceans, builder uses every bit of space. Fit and finish is excellent.

      J P - we are aware of the Outer Reef line of boats - but I wouldn't describe them as true passagemakers - more like very nice expedition style yachts for extended coastal cruising. They are semi-displacement un-ballasted hulls and don't have the fuel capacity or hulls design that we would want to cross an ocean. If they do make one that is a true passagemaker - definitely let me know..

    Handling a cat on the open ocean calls for some serious sailing skills, especially when the seas kick up and the wind is blowing. A family of three could find themselves in trouble pretty fast.

      +Bruce Benson - we chose not to buy that boat but it’s a power cat not a sailing cat. The couple that built her put 50 thousand nautical miles on her with just 2 people on board most of the time. Very solid boat.

    ♦️My fantasy for a upcoming vlog...... M/V Cassidy meets Aboard Mermaid Monster.
    Can you make that happen? Please?
    You mention flying to Florida to check out another boat. On Mermaid Monsters newest video, their boat is at a marina in Fernandina Beach, FL as they fly home for Christmas.
    Picture this, your drone captures a amazing sunrise then lowers to reveal the M/V Cassidy trio standing on one side of the dock and Aboard Mermaid Monster on the other as the theme song from “The good, the bad, and the ugly” plays. Pan-out to include a trio walking past on the wharf. Cut to a close up shot of the trio to reveal its Ayla, Kathryn and David, a.k.a. Three@Sea. Kathryn leans close to David and Ayla then says “Look, they are raising their children as they cruise on their Nordhavn. Ayla replies “Been there...” followed by David saying “..,done that!” It wold be epic. Even if you need to use a Green Screen to pull it off.
    Although you each have Nordhavns, and your production and editing are high quality with stable shots and clear audio, and you are sharing your family cruising adventures, you are going about this vlog thing different and thats cool.
    To be honest, both your vlogs and Aboard Mermaid Monster vlogs are well done and enjoyable to a Nordhavn Dreamer like me.

      Doug Ales - Interesting idea. We watched all of the 3@Sea videos and they were an inspiration - both to cruise while raising our daughter and to try to make videos along the way. The Mermaid Monster videos are well done and they seem like a cool family - but our paths have not crossed yet. We've got a lot of years left to cruise and a lot of cruising grounds to explore so it would not surprise me if we run into them somewhere - especially if we get a boat on the east coast...

    I must have missed a few episodes, last I saw your were photographing glaciers and now your in Mexico looking at a power-cat. lol. It will be interesting to see what you end up buying. Still considering a larger trawler?

      Astrodiver 1 - if anything I think we are more focused on a larger Nordhavn. Keeping an open mind as to exactly what boat at this point though.

    the catamaran looks nice but may need some cleaning up and upgrade/refurbishing. Plus not too wide beam. Add more solar so you can stay on the hook longer

      She is a nice boat and actually has solar panels over the davits that hang from the rear deck. I think that the owners are upgrading the panels too put out over 1kw (albeit there are always losses associates with solar install so the actual power to the battery bank will be something less than that).

      @@aponoypi - thanks. The drone that we had been using recently - A DJI Mavic Air decided to disconnect from the controller and fly itself into the water when we were on Catalina Island recently. We recovered it and sent it in along with the flight records and DJI is sending a new one under warranty BUT we didn't have it on this trip so had to use an old Spark, which is a little more challenging to use because it only has a 2 axis gimbal. It's all we had most of the time we were in Alaska though so have kind of gotten use to its limitations...

    Would love to hear your thoughts on the Seahorse 52 for sale in Marina Del Rey as well as the original Nordhavn 46.

      winty - I saw that Seahorse 52 listing on Jeff Merrill's website a week or so ago and at first glance it looks like lot of boat for the money. A couple of things stand out to me though - it only carries a little over 1000 gallons of fuel which isn't really enough to provide pacific ocean crossing range in a boat that size, and no mention of stabilizers in the listing.
      The N46 is obviously the boat that set the standard for small ocean crossing powerboats. They are proven and well known. Theres some things I don't like about them that are more preference things. Most of them have metal tanks, although they seem to have held up well over time from what I can tell. I don't like the sliding doors vs. the swing doors with dogs on the newer boats, and the canoe stern makes the cockpit relatively small and irregularly shaped.

    I don't think you can beat Nordhavns. The Nordhavn MS 56, 57, and 62 would be interesting to checkout. I personally like the old 62 footer the best.(I could live on that boat.......................if I could talk my wife into it!!!)(;>)

      Ref Pettinger - I’ve always loved the salty look of the N62. We never really considered one because of the price but they are starting to show up close to our price range. N57 has great performance but small inside for the size and we don’t really care for the motor yacht styling. Could overlook the dislikes though for the right 57 at the right price. Very curious about the 56MS but neither one of us has a sailing background.

      @@CassidysSailingTrawler Checkout "Nordhavn 56 Motorsailer with Tokkie Elliot" on YT. Tokkie bought the 56 Ata Marie(Blue Hull) that's for sale in Florida. The Ata Marie has more room/beds below deck than some of the others with a sailing station in front of the pilot house have. Jeff Merrill has a couple of videos on YT where he talks about the 56MS.
      I'm pretty sure Tokkie lives in California and would be someone to talk to. (Stay away from hull #5)(;>)
      I've always liked the idea of a motorsailers. Next time you get to the port that's at 1:50 minutes into your video, give me a call and I'll buy you guys lunch/dinner. I live 30 miles North of there.

    I assume you are going to look at the Tennant 58 in Ft L. As a long time N47 owner I am well aware of their performance limitations and am researching powercats also. Please post a video of the Tennant but don’t buy as I have my eye on it also. 😉

      Gregory Beckner - I assume you are referring to Ambush? Looks like another interesting boat. There's another Tennant design in Florida called Kiwi that is a 52 with a 33' beam - looks incredibly well laid out but not an ocean crosser.
      I really like the idea of ocean crossing power cats but they all have the same unknowns and risks being mostly 1 off custom builds. Money no object we'd jump into one and try it first hand, but the reality is that we have a limited budget and need to consider an exit strategy when done cruising. The Nordhavns are a known entity with an established and strong resale market.
      And your comment about looking but not buying it is funny but we also had the same idea about Domino at first. $700k seemed like a steal for such a capable boat when looking at the performance specs and capabilities of the boat so we were kind of keeping it under the radar. The reality is that these boats are a small niche market with in the already niche market of ocean crossing powerboats so there seems to be a very very small pool of potential buyers.
      Domino really does seem like a great and well built boat to serve her intended mission though, and I hope that the sellers are successful in finding her a new crew; they seem like great people.

      We owned our 47 for 10 years/4000+ hours on the main. East coast Florida to Nova Scotia, Bahamas, Bermuda. Absolutely great boat except I never felt comfortable with the “get home” solution so refused to venture too far. We sold 3 years ago for a variety of reasons, mostly work stuff and are now shopping again. The long distance powercat is intriguing. When you look at Ambush find out why there is only 250 hours on the engines of a 2008 boat. Usually this is not a good thing. Diesels need hard work on a regular basis. If you go ahead your prebuy needs to be meticulous in this regard. I have excellent resources in Florida. Contact me offline at gbeckner47@gmail.com if I can be of assist.     There's a nordhavn N50 in Australia for 595.000 for sale and they will bring it stateside for you I think can check on it just letting you know

    Nordhavn's are very well build. It is going to be tough to find something else withe the same quality. Not sure children really need that much room and privacy. I grew up in a family of 7 in a house with 4 bedrooms that was standard in the 70ties. And we were not considered a large family back then. A boat of this size will cost you about 4 times as much. Is that worth it? Teenagers will be rebellious and unhappy by definition anyway :-)

      If why are we selling - we’ve indeed answered this a lot but I don’t mind sharing again: mainly for a little more space - more room for our daughter as she gets older, a proper helm chair for passages. It was a tough decision as the 40 is an incredible boat and probably burns less fuel than any of the other Nordhavn passagemakers.

    I like catamaran performance and space, too. How ‘bout a 40’ expedition cat? I think a cat of any ocean going size limits marina visits to end-ties.
    I have no desire to visit Mexico, sad to say, until it turns the corner away from being a narco-state. Heart of Sinaloa Cartel territory you were.

    You all should check out older Cheoy Lee LRCs. They are very well built (by a commercial yard - possibly over built) trawler style yachts although not as purpose built as Nordhavns, but also nowhere near as expensive.       None of these boats are inexpensive. Domino is a unique boat and we were very interested. The cost of traveling to see her is honestly trivial compared to the cost of acquisition and ownership of these boats and we felt it was worth seeing. Plus - we love Mexico and traveling in general so it was overall a great experience.

    Horizon PC 55 and 74's are nice cats. Interiors are pretty much on par with nordhavn. In saying this, I'd much rather have the Nordhavn over a cat for the room and quality of build.

    Luv your guys channel-well done to embrace this lifestyle! Another vlog I watch is m/v freedom out of Seattle which have a 43 Nordhaven which has a spacious full beam stateroom and adjacent entrance to what appears to be stand up engine room=very nice. Check out their boat tour.

      Wade Harrison - thanks! We’ve seen their tour and a lot of their videos. The 43 is a great little boat but they are expensive compared to the 40 and not enough extra space compared to the 40 to justify the increased capital outlay plus transaction costs to move up from our boat. If we already had a 43 we’d probably be okay sticking with it for a while. But for now we are focused on something bigger....

      Mud Puddle - the rules are always changing down there but the FMMs or tourist cards have been a requirement for a long time now. When you fly in the airlines hand them out and then customs stamps and takes half of it on the way in, leaving the other half in your passport and taking it upon departure.
      Going in by car it’s a bit more hassle because you have to stop and deal with the immigration people, pay a fee if staying more than 7 days, etc. The fee is rolled in with your airfare when traveling by plane.

      Bravo21 - I wouldn’t say that’s the whole point - at least not for a true ocean crosser. I think that because of all the space in the short and wide cats that people have come to know through charter fleets that cats have become synonymous with space.
      But the advantages of a catamaran hull for an ocean crosser are many that don’t include space. Some of which are incredible efficiency at a fast cruising speed (10 knots for Domino), no need for stabilizers or thrusters so less systems to maintain, and available speed way above that of full displacement monohull passagemakers. That’s only possible if they are kept light however and that is one of the negatives as it means less accommodation.

      Mike H - one of the things I actually thought looked nice about Domino is that she doesn’t seem to have much wetted surface for the length. The waterline is around 4.5 feet above the base of the hulls so it looks like it would be relatively easy to roll on bottom paint as a do it your self job vs the irregular profiles and painting upside down required on a monohull. Lots of large flat decks to clean topsides though!

      M/V Cassidy found ourselves cleaning three to four times as much as we did on anything. Else. And like you said there built cheap my nickname for ours was a floating turd it was actually junk

      Mike H - that’s funny. I don’t think that cheap and light are necessarily the same. A boat can be light and still very robust. And to be fair, the build quality on Domino is impressive for a one off custom boat that was built in a yard with many challenges. And the true testament to her strength is the 50k plus ocean miles traveled to date. If the living accommodations were slightly different we could have been tempted.

    If I were spending your money ..... perhaps a Kadey-Krogen 48, and the "widebody" version if possible. They have been around for a while so pricing to meet all budgets.

      Fred Lamprey - we’ve only ever been on a friend’s Krogen 39 - never a 48 but they do have some nice features. The one thing I notice though is they seem to only carry 1,000 gallons of fuel so that doesn’t really seem to provide range to cross the Pacific without a fair amount of deck fuel and that is high on our list of goals.

      @@CassidysSailingTrawler I've always been a big fan of the 39. Yeah, you would have to go larger then the 48' to get the big fuel tanks. I imagine crossing the Pacific is quite a bit different then cruising up and down the west coast and island hopping the Caribbean and Atlantic (my dream that I will probably never realize).       Secret Squirrell - the Fleming’s are suggested a lot - great boats but they are semi-displacement boats and not really designed to cross oceans.
      I’ve read a lot that the Dashew’s have written and admire their approach to design. That said, the FPBs aren’t being made anymore, they don’t come up on the brokerage market very often, and even if one did I’m sure we couldn’t afford it!

I have been hopeful that the price for FPBs would come down. I admit to not knowing what reduction only that I remain hopeful that 1) there would be even a small resale market; 2) they become 'affordable'. 'Ever hopeful', that's me. Best wishes in your search.
      P.S. I think it incredibly gracious, a mark of great parents, to consider a vessel with provision for your daughter's well-being high on the list of criteria.

      Lots of things in the works with selling our boat and trying to get into another one with minimal lapse in time between boats. Will share more information about all of this soon. Also, we do have a lot more footage from our adventures over the summer that we are scrubbing through to try to put together a few possibly interesting things.
      As soon as we are back out there moving again on a new boat we hope to be putting up content more regularly. It’s been both fun and a cool learning experience making these videos so far....

    I can see why you would want to go a little bigger or at least something with twin screws. I wouldn’t trust that little Diesel engine to get you anywhere if you broke down in the middle of a storm!

      +Steven Pendleton - indefinitely wouldn’t want to have to run long distances on the 30hp wing engine in the 40. It pushes us at about 3.5 knots in flat water. I think the idea behind the wing though is that it allows you to maintain steerage while troubleshooting or repairing and issues with the main, or worst case maybe you do try to run downwind to the nearest safe harbor. But that could be 1400nm worst case in the middle of a pacific crossing. That wouldn’t be fun.

      Peter Goodier - have not looked at one but also just replied to another suggestion of Fleming. Seem like very well built and capable boats but my understanding of their line is that they are semi-displacement, un-ballasted hulls and not what would be considered a passagemaker capable of crossing oceans safely. Lots of cross over in capabilities with these powerboats but I'd personally classify the Flemings as "expedition motor yachts" or something similar.
      Definitely open to being wrong in my assumptions though - so let me know if they do make a boat that would suit our desire to cross the Pacific...

      I watched a lot of the videos of Tony Fleming exploring on his boat Venture remember hearing or reading that they shipped the boat to Europe. Just looked at the comments from their video from exploring Norway in 2012 and found this comment, directly from Tony Fleming:

      Captain Rick - the N47 has a lot of interior volume for its length. More than the N50. That said we are keeping our options open. Looked at a N57 and they have fast hulls but personally we don’t like the motor yacht styling of those boats.

      ysesq - I could write pages and pages. We aren’t sailors, we like the idea of crossing oceans in a small powerboat. And fuel is not the largest expensive of operating a boat like this.
      Some people love sailing and we enjoy reading about and watching vlogs of people cruising on sailboats. We just prefer to do it on a powerboat!

      +Nick Gillon - it’s indeed an unfortunate compromise that the boat needs to be kept so spartan and light to meet the design perfirmance specs. It would be interesting to see what a production builder working with advanced composites could do as far as an interior that has more accommodations and still light. I imagine it would not be inexpensive though.

      Chad Charter - It is a very common question as the reality is very few people are crossing oceans on small power boats vs. sailing. Our research and experience has shown that the fuel bill is not the largest cost of operation and ownership and sails and maintaining a sailing rig can be expensive too. There is also the detail that we don't really know how to sail and don't like the idea of being outside on deck dealing with sails and rigging in heavy weather. You could say we are all-in on the ocean crossing powerboat idea and are not going to focus on sailing at all.
      You are absolutely correct about the speeds being similar, and we will end up in a lot of the same places and anchorages as people who travel the world sailing.

    I love all boats and i'm a blue water guy but y'all need to stop contemplating life and just cruise. Head straight to the BVI's and or th bahamas. Your 40N. is the perfect size boat for your family. Any bigger and it becomes an obstacle.

    I love your channel but please stay with the Nordhavn. If you buy a cat then get one that has more room, maybe a sailing cat. As you guys were talking you kept saying how good your boat is now, if you need to get a different boat (I have no idea why you would) step up to a bigger Nordhavn, you’ll never loose money.

      Ice Bru - there is a high likelihood that we will end up with another Nordhavn. There are so many positive aspects to this specific cat Domino however, that we wanted to take the opportunity to look at here with the hope that we might be able to adapt her slightly to work for our needs. But it ended up bringing us back around toward focusing on the Nordhavn monohulls.

      Bob Black - the N50 is a great boat and from my understanding might be the most efficient hull that Nordhavn ever made.
      That said, they didn’t make very many of them so there’s no inventory. We’d consider one though if the right boat was available.
      All things being equal in a boat that size I think the 47 has more interior volume and a better layout but a slower less efficient hull.

      Tony Alexander - it's not perfect for our current needs but we definitely understand the owner's goals when they built her. They had built in the genre of a true "passagemaker" as originally discussed in the Robert P. Beebe book Voyaging Under Power, and there are even a few pages in the latest edition of the book about power cats, specifically mentioning Domino.

      M/V Cassidy Since Marie and JP were alone on the boat, they did a layout where they lived in the center of the boat...with the least motion. It was a fabulous layout for them and made a lot of sense when I was aboard. And given the long hulls and beam,which spanned wave crests, the motion was quite comfortable all the time. And to top it off, the boat could go around the world at displacement speed without buying fuel. Or more than 4000nm at 10 knots, or 2000nm at 20 knots.       And given the simplicity of the boat and its systems, JP could maintain everything himself, no need for experts flying in to repair stabilizers or other complex machinery. Which is why they enjoyed relaxed cruising around the South Pacific, snorkeling and diving, while the other large trawlers waited for parts.

      Bill Parlatore - I hope we didn’t come across as not being fans of the boat and her capabilities. It’s quite the opposite and we were drawn for the boat for all the reasons you describe. I love the idea of two identical engines vs a different wing and main as far as spares. No now and stern thrusters or stabilizers to maintain. The performance data as far as speed, range, and economy is incredible. And the fact that they put over 50k nautical miles on the boat speaks volumes to her capabilities.
      I read Marie’s entire blog from beginning to end to learn as much as I could about the boat including how she was built and run and even after we looked at her we spent time brainstorming about how we could make the space work for us.
      The unfortunate realization that we came to is that despite all the incredible upsides is the boat, it doesn’t make sense for our current needs. We could easily put $100-200k into refitting her to improve the layout for our preferences and then we’d still have a one off custom boat that will be likely hard to sell when we are done cruising. And unfortunately, that is a consideration for us as we don’t have unlimited funds and will have a lot of our savings dumped into whatever our next boat is. Say what you will about Nordhavn, the reality is they have an established brokerage market and depreciate a lot less than most boats.
      We think Domino is a great boat. She’s just not right for us right now. I understand the reasons behind everything Marie and JP did and she worked exactly as they had hoped for their mission.
      Finally, on an unrelated note, we miss Passagemaker magazine as it was when you owned it. Still read it occasionally but its not the same!

      Not a problem. I didn't take it that way. It's just that so many people buy a 65-foot boat with three or four stateroom that consume the interior possibilities, and they never use any of them except for storage. And JP reports they get close to 6,000nm at 10 knots, That is hard to beat for bluewater cruising.

    For God's sake just buy a bigger Nordhavn. They are the standard by which all others are measured. I've been on 40's and they are fairly small. Too small for me, and I have no kids to put on. Take a look at a 47, or 52, or even bigger. incredible amounts of room in these things.

      +sailinstyle - the 52s are the evolution of the 47 and all of them are outside our budget. Very nice boats though. We will be looking at a lot of options over the next few months.

    This is a video of 2 people really jazzed about capturing their kid on video and I think trying to "grow their brand" on you tube - kitschy tourist videos and not much on real boats - at least in this episode .....

      Dave Cason - thanks for sharing your thoughts. We are obviously not going to please everyone but the beauty of TH-cam is that there is so much content out there that I am sure you can find something that you enjoy watching with "real boats". I will address you comment though - not exactly sure how you can infer our intent with this video or anything else that we've put on here. It started out as a way to document our journey for ourselves and friends and family and then it became clear there was a lot more interest in what we are trying to do - which is ultimately explore the world on a small powerboat while homeschooling our daughter.
      We are trying to sell one boat and move into another one soon after which can be logistically challenging and require traveling all over the place to ultimately find the boat that is right for us. With this video we are just sharing some of the decision making process, whats involved in looking for a boat, and our thoughts about whats important to us in a boat. I would also like to see the owner's of Domino find her the right buyer as they seem like great people - maybe there's a small chance that featuring the boat here helps.

      +jonno Rousseau - appreciate that sentiment. I think we could learn how to sail with no problem, it’s really just that I don’t like the idea of being out in the weather on watch. And honestly we really like the idea of crossing oceans under power. If we were to go sail - I’d look at something like one of the Dashew designs. There’s a pretty nice looking Deerfoot 62 in La Paz...
      The Nordhavn 56 motorsailer is starting to pique our interest a little the more I read and understand how it is designed to be operated. The Hundested variable pitch prop seems really innovative.

    Please don't adopt the walking, talking, selfie thing. Video and then narrate over them or do the seated conversations. I always see the lazy and vain vloggers do the selfie and that's not you.
    On the positive side, you do a great job with the live annotations on your videos. I don't see many vloggers do it at all and you do it well. Especially your paravane video.

      This was kind of a different video for us and I just got the new little gimbal camera delivered a day before we left so we were shooting all kinds of different footage to experiment. I’ve always thought it was kind of weird to walk around looking at a camera but the little Osmo Pocket is really so small you can hardly see it. Even without doing the “selfie thing” I think it’s going to allow us to capture a lot of cool footage in the future because it’s so easy to take it out and shoot.

      @@CassidysSailingTrawler I watched a few of those motorsailer vids despite not being in the market for one. I like them although they have a deep keel which would limit access to certain areas. Did you feel unsafe at all on the 6 hr bus ride?

      Beachcomber - not unsafe at all. It’s actually a comfortable bus. We were really only concerned because the bus driver didn’t want to stop because were the only people on the bus that needed to tourist cards and our Spanish is terrible. A goal is to try to learn Spanish well enough to communicate better while we cruise Mexico.
      Anyway - I know there’s a lot of bad stuff going on in parts of Mexico with the drug cartels and I’d say we have a healthy sense of caution about it. Growing up in San Diego I spent a lot of time in Tijuana and deep into Baja and have a pretty good feel for places to stay away from. Parts of Oakland are way more scary than anything we experienced on this trip.

      gess ges - if you’re referring to Domino - she was designed by New Zealander Malcom Tennant who unfortunately died in an accident in 2008. And this specific boat has incredibly good economy which was one of the reasons we had a lot of interest.

      M/V Cassidy this boat is big heavy , it’s interior space wows everybody But it’s old thinking in the hull shapes , heavy, where’s as modern shapes are doing 30 knt these days ,so good luck on your purchase

      gess ges - we aren’t buying the boat - the interior is actually pretty spartan on Domino if you look at the listing. But for a 20 meter boat that weighs 50,000 pounds the performance seems very good - especially compared to a monohull. We are likely going to end up with another Nordhavn.

      Carp Spudpicker - I was so tempted to just not engage that comment - but what the heck - got a few minutes to kill in the airport so here goes...
      It’s interesting that you assume we are “rich”.
      I can assure you everything we have in life is the result of incredibly hard work and years of saving.
      If I see someone who appears to be successful, I am curious as to what they did to achieve success. Envy or anger towards them seems very unproductive.
      We are far from “rich” but I don’t begrudge anyone who has achieved financial success as the result of hard work. Even if someone was given money from a chance they were born into a family with money...why is that my business?
      TH-cam is great - there is so much information available and the best thing about it is you don’t have to watch anything that you don’t want to. We are sharing our journey so that it might inspire and help people to live their dream. If watching evokes negative emotion - I’m sure you’ll find something else to watch.

    60$ in fuel cost per hour seems a waste of money a sailing cat is so much nicer and has 2 engines for when you need them. Do yourself a favor and attend a boat show and get on a sailing cat before you right them off.

      +Roger Spinks - not sure how you are calculating $60/hour? A cat like Domino will burn 4-5 gallons an hour at a normal cruise speed. More than a boat that is actually sailing sure. But not $60/hour.

    Never heard of global warming? What kind of world do you want to handle your daughter? She's gonna live this lifestyle go get a sailing catamaran. Burn next to nothing you could even an electric version. Plus you have lots of room and it would be easy to live as a family on
