Just heard this in the radio and I suddenly realised I had no idea what Roy Head looked like..turned to this clip and I am utterly amazed! What a singer, what a mover! He deserved to be MUCH bigger but that was one helluva song. Brilliant!
Almost all songs in the early to mid '60s were short.Terry Kirkland of the Association touches on it briefly in an interview with the Huffington Post seven years ago. Google "Terry Kirkland Association Huffington Post" and read the article. We too always wondered why songs were so short back then, and many back then still managed to squeeze in an interlude (Not heard too much today) despite their brevity. :)
Yep, but I'm familiar with it already. This is a song that is just too short. They should've written at least one more verse, and then the chorus for a second time.
Besides being a credible blue-eyed-soul stylist, Head was known for gyrations and dance steps in his performances that could arguably leave Elvis Presley in the dust and rival the best moves of James Brown. Head claimed that he had been kicked off a tour by Brown for being too good a dancer. “In a way, it was kind of a compliment, because I was burnin’,” he said. “(Brown) had always been my idol, and I was awed just being on three shows with him.”
He could never rival James Brown. His moves in this are hilariously weird. He doing too much. I can tell his influence is from James Brown but he needed a choreographer to help him out. Not sure what a blue eyed soul stylist that must be made up but he indeed had and soul and one can tell he was not racist but embraced the Americans that were brown.
Two adds: The bass and lead guitar player were basketball teammates of mine at Southwest Texas. Also, I pulled the Traits’ equipment trailer to several venues on SE Texas. Probably not Alvin, though.
That Band was amazing! I don’t remember watching Roy Head but thank you for the upload this is priceless. His song was big here in LA in 1965. WOW what Moves!!! I was 15 in 65😉
Once Upon a Time in Hollywood's TV spot brought me here. This movie is going to open up a whole world of awesome, unknown music for me, just like all of his other movies!
On this day in 1965 {October 9th} Roy Head performed "Treat Her Right" on the ABC-TV program 'Shindig!' A little over one month earlier on September 4th it entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; eventually it peaked at #2 {for 2 weeks} & spent 11 weeks on the Top 100 One month and four days later on Nov. 13th, 1965 he was back on 'Shindig!' and performed the song again R.I.P. Jimmy O'Neill {Shindig's host, 1940 - 2013} & Mr. Head will celebrate his 73rd birthday in three months on January 9th
Never realized how Roy Head took his cues, his inspiration, from the Godfather of Soul himself, Mr. James Brown. The moves, the horns--pretty fly for a white guy! 😁😁
Too bad he didn't extend the moon walk for the longer lengths that Michael Jackson did. Those awesome acrobatic moves went beyond anything Jackson ever did. My knees are now aching from simply watching this exhibition! As the saying goes: "Don't try this at home" unless you can afford knee replacement surgery on down the line.🥺😫😆Roy Head, born in Three Rivers, Texas in 194l, passed away at age 79 from a heart attack on September 21, 2020. He previously suffered a stroke in 2016 followed by surgery to repair a ruptured aorta. From 1965 through 1985 he had forty four 45rpm singles released. But this first recording seen here was his only "smash hit," charting at #2. Thirty six of his singles charted. 🌠Milton Moore🌠 Las Vegas, Nevada

Yes I guess you could say that George, look at my pic.. It is 5 years old. I see you don't have a pic up, so whats with that. So I was 67, well preserved, must have been all the pesticides in me..lol
Good Morning George Fish..I'm sorry you are so unhappy as to get on here and bully me,you don't know me.But I think you may need help..Best wishes on that.I was here for the Music, your here to pick a fight..That is so very sad.
Hey, Sylvia, it looks as though you've been dating Claude Rains (The Invisible Man). Or George Fish (TH-cam's creepy bully). Anyway, I'm only 2 years younger than you, 65, and back in the day I always thought Roy Head was black. Did you know better? Or am I just that dumb?
Yea Michael never took credit for it. He said he always took from other artists and just added his own spin to it. But it's really cool to his influences.
Dancers doing the Jerk & the Swim in the early sixties. Roy Head doing break dancing. Never knew who sang the one song. Only remember the song back then on a tube chevy radio. Never knew where it came from, but it was sure needed there for nowhere to be somewhere!
Awesome. Turns out my Mom and Dad went to see him and during a break Mr. Head came over to my Mom's table and told her what a Beautiful women she was gave her a Kiss... Thank God my father was in the restroom and didn't see it lol...
THIS ADORABLE MAN'S SLICK DANCES gave Mick Jagger his swagger. I remember being 15 and seeing it.
I broke my hip just watching this! Roy Head was amazing!
If you want to see a hip-breaking dance sequence search out the Nicholas Brothers' tap-dance routine from "Stormy Weather" (1943).
Lol! Broken hips....rofl...
😂😂😂. Tom Jones does a great version. So does George Thorogood.
A classic song that
every man should hear.
For those that don't know or recognize greatness....there it is.

When I was a kid, someone called him "the white James Brown." 😏
@@napmcdan3437 Wayne Cochran fits that bill for sure but Roy Head got those moves
Only thing wrong with this song, is its to short.
lkn4deals well, it does follow that old axiom....leave’em wanting more.

Not only was Roy Head fabulous, the band was pretty great too. Great horn charts.
Roy Head, singer who took Houston sound up the charts in 1965, dies at age 79. RIP
