    These photos are great!! Could I ask the rough settings you would use for portrait shooting? ie shutter speed, ISO (in relation to flash). Just getting to grips with my GRii and wondering if you would typically compensate flash by underexposing the ISO? Thanks CKF....you rock :)

      Generally it's ISO 400, f/5.6 at 1/60 sec with the flash set to auto or fill depending on the flash I'm using. If it's outdoors (daylight) I'll adjust shutter speed to taste or drop the ISO. The nice thing about the GR is that it syncs at all speeds!

    Nice well thought out video. I'm curious if you're planning on staying with thhe GRii or going to get the GRiii? My question is the GRiii worth $500 more than the GRii?
    Again nice video!
    Best of luck in your photography journey.

      Is it worth it? I guess it really depends on your needs as a photographer. I recently moved and don't have the ability to just step out my door and be in the city. Consequently I don't "need" a street camera as much as I used to. That makes it tougher to justify a $900 camera. Do I want more resolution, touch screen, IBIS? Absolutely. The trick is justifying it if I'm not using it for work?

    Thank you for your video! This is the GRii not the GR DIGITAL II right? I have the GRii.

    • @camerakungfu
      @camerakungfu  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, the newer one. I had one of the old GRd's and it was far from a great camera. I loved the handling though and that's why I was willing to get the GRii when it came out.

    Nice Video, thank you. Interested to know the manufacturer of the bag n the video.

    • @camerakungfu
      @camerakungfu  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's a waxed canvas Duluth Pack Haversack. More of a book bag really, there's no padding at all. But it works great for a small camera and a couple flashes.

      @@Little3888 I don't have an iPhone 7 to compare but I have an iPhone 8 and there is no way I'd choose the GR for video. It's that bad.

  • @gibson4ever28
    @gibson4ever28 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Cool video! You are brave to do an event with the GR, not because it is not capable of doing that but because some people might not take a photographer seriously with only the GR. It helps in the streets but I guess it can be a problem when working professionally. The flash and the hood probably help with that though.

    • @camerakungfu
      @camerakungfu  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I tend to prefer fly-on-the-wall photos in general so the GR is perfect for that. But if this were a paid gig I would have brought my big Nikon body and a backup. The irony in that is I'd probably still use the same ISO/shutter/aperture settings and a similar focal length.

    Thanks for the video! Can I use a PENTAX flash on the GRii?

    • @camerakungfu
      @camerakungfu  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven’t had personal experience with Pentax flashes but I’ve heard that they work. And I can’t imagine Ricoh implementing different flash functions across multiple lines but then again, camera companies have done stranger things.

    • @unbroken1010

    • @camerakungfu
      @camerakungfu  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’ve heard that the Pentax TTL cables work but I’ve never verified it myself. B&H has them for $16 so it might be worth checking out.

      @@camerakungfu can you do TTL with the Ricoh built on flash to trigger the gf-1

    • @camerakungfu
      @camerakungfu  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@darrenhayward4340 You can but it's not the best I don't think. It's a little spotty on correct exposure and I'd be more worried about draining an already small camera battery down too quickly. But YMMV. I tend to prefer manual flash or at most auto rather than TTL.
