This is such a great informative video. I wish every youtuber makes videos this way, personally😅 no flash, no hypes, slow enough, no unnecessary things. Thank you and please keep up your work!
I found your video when it was mentioned on a Reddit. Though much of what pictures I make on my GRIII is with the high contrast B&W preset I thank you for making this video. Your analysis and opinions are highly valued. Thank you. Hope you will make more content.
thank you for this video!! I'm glad you made this comparison because I too was missing the magic I felt with the GRII in the new GRIII. However, your presets get me close to the images I longed for so thank you for this!!
Wow your lightroom presets are great. The closest I've found to the Ricoh GR positive film. Shocked that you are not charging for them to be honest. Thank you.
Great comparison! I have the GR ii, was thinking of upgrading to GR iii. But GR iii took out the exposure compensation dedicated buttons and the built-in flash. Looks like I'll stick to the GR ii, this video helped. Thank you!

Well aren't those the best interests?! Photography, biking and nerding around! Thanks for your comment! I've watched a few of your videos and really liked them! When I "upgraded" to the GR III, I was a little underwhelmed by the outputs so I had to put it head to head against my trusty GR. The GR III is not a bad camera by any means, but it doesn't seem to hold the same magic as the previous GRs.
Thanks for your comparison and custom settings. I only own GR iii so couldnt really compare after reading on forums that earlier GRs has better +ve film. I think you are correct in saying the new tech have changed how the picture look on the same setting. Been experimenting with the custom settings myself and haven't found the sweet spot yet so will give yours a try.
Thank you for your comparison video that what I find for a long time! Same as you, I really love the Original GR Positive Film Effect that give completely Jpeg file which no need adjust anything. Now I use GR III and sometime I wanna go back to the original but I'm in love with the IBIS that make more possibility to get the shot and better at low-light especially when I travel. Your GR III and Lightroom preset is really help me, Really thanks to you. Hope your GR stay with you for a long time! (Sorry for my English, but I really want to thank you to you)
Thank you for a really informative video. I have both cameras and now will do my own side by side comparison. I love the positive film option but I have never looked at the photo's side by side.
Appreciate the video, I found the GR III images noticeably flatter than my GRII and thought I had a dud, so I returned it. Clearly that was the way the new camera has been set. Solid Video. Still using my GRII as my carry camera.
Thanks! In the beginning I also thought there was something wrong with the GR III I had bought used. By now I've had a few GR III's...tried to like it but always went back to the GR. The direct comparison in this video has made it final for me...I will stick to my "old" camera until they come out with something better.
Great video. Please make some more videos with various presets like high contrast black & white. Your video was really really good. Very concise and on point. No one else is doing preset videos so it could be your niche. Good luck ☺️
Thank you! I think there are some videos out there on the different presets but these comparison videos take a lot of work. This one was more of a passion project of mine as I wanted to find out for myself where the difference lie. Maybe I'll do a follow up when the GR IV comes out 😉
Fantastic video, running your setting on my new GR III. I'm wondering if messing with the Dynamic Range Compensation setting, or highlights recovery, also has an impact to change the perceived feeling in the Positive Film GRIII (of course, not sure you have one now to check)
Thank you Jakob for this very interesting video. Like you, my GR II broke down (but my fault, glass milk bottle broke and I had thewn my GrR in the bag between the car and home and the bottle broke when dropping the bag on kitchen tile, sinking my GR in milk befiore I could retrieve it...) and although I could have gotten the III for couple huundred more, I went on eBay and got another GR II. Later, if it or I brake it, I'll attempt the 3 (still ridiculously cheap for what it is) for the ibis, suposedly better DR, Mpx count and lower noise. But I can't wait for an hypothetical GR IV, see what they'll come with this time...
What a great video! I really like the photos from your cycling trips. Your wife must be very lucky to have such a great man on her side! (Even if your love story is about the Ricoh GR...)
To me it looks like the GRIII needs to be exposed higher than the GR (or perhaps as you say the older one lifts the shadows). From the photos you cannot see that the GRIII has more dynamic range as even if it has colours in the skies, it has darker shadows. I prefer the greens on the GR positive film, not sure about the other colours, but I don't have the GR or GRII to compare. Would have been nice to see comparison where the GRIII exposure was lifted.
Excellent! I'm trying the presets. But what profile should I select? Adobe color? Adobe standard? Embedded? I managed to convert the LRtemplate file to XMP using Conv Free and then had to zip it let ACR import it. Now, just wondering what profile was used as a base for this preset. THANK YOU in advance, and thanks for the great video - lovely pictures!
It's amazing how a simple yet instructional video can influence the decision process--thank you! I sold my GRII because the the III was coming and thought that image stabilization would be a great feature to have--I never used the flash. What a mistake! I never bought the III since the price was ridiculous. I went to film for street photography but I never reached the level of shooting I had in a short period with the GRII. How much did I miss my GRII? Years later I contacted the buyer (eBay) asking to buy my camera back; sadly he sold it. Lesson learned. :(
Thank you for your nice comment! I feel you...since I made this video I've tried many cameras but I keep going back to the GR II. Every time I shoot with it I get some keepers. If you're in Europe I'll sell you a GR II. I have some "in stock" ;)
Curiously, this is the exact same difference that makes the gen ii fujifilm files pop more than the newer files. I think it was the style at the time and how they dealt with the DR limitations of the hardware.
Towards the end of the video I presented custom GR III settings (recipe) to better match the old Positive Film. But if you have a suggestion for a different recipe I'd be happy to try it!
@@JakobIglhaut A right - closer but not the same. Interesting, and interesting that the majority of GR III reviews don't mention this change in look, at least for Positive Film. To my eyes the GR I/II images are much nicer.
Great video Jakob. You really can see the differences. My GRII is all I know. I feel I'll get used to the 3 in due time if I upgrade. 🤞🏽🤞🏽🤞🏽 Ibis and lowlight performance is what will inspire me to get out there and create. I hope I'm right about my future griii upgrade. I will always have my GRII as a backup. 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽 Great review nonetheless mate.
Interesting video. I just sold my GR3 because I far prefer the Positive Film setting from my even older GRD IV. This little trouper released in 2011 has out-survived a GRI I owned, but then very shortly after developed the dreaded 'won't focus or fire' fault. Very depressing how poorly these cameras are built/made. My next pocket camera will probably be an Olympus TG-7. But I will never part with my GRD IV, as it is such a beautiful thing capable of such beauty.
@@tomfenn7149 I bought the x70 to replace my broken GR1 but most of the time I grab the grd when I leave the house. I think I might sell the x70 and take another chance with a GR2 😬
Pulled my old GR off of the shelf after nearly 8 years of not using it. Battery swollen, surprised that Ricoh still sells new DB-65 batteries on their online shop (in Japan).
Thanks for your movie. You summed that up very well. I'm sticking with my GR, even if it would be nice to have the 3 series. reason, no idea. Best regards from Germany, Markus.
Can you make a comparison between the Bleach Bypass effect of both cameras? I loved that effect on my old GR, but that camera is defect and the Bleach Bypass on my new GR III feels somewhat different. I would love to see a direct comparison.
@@JakobIglhaut That would be awesome! As far as I know this effect is not as popular as the Positive Film, though it still has a small but quite enthusiastic fanbase.
hi my GRi (they call I the version without WIFI) RIP two weeks ago. From the first image that I took with this camera 4 years ago, i disabled all the DR, ND, and other automatic functions and photographed the only RAW. Never saw any problem, otherwise, some Fuji friends wanted the same performance and image quality as my Ricoh had. Right now I'm looking for a replacement on eBay - the same GRi or GRii. Not in love with iii.
Hello I have just bought a original GR (thanks to the influence of your videos) I am a beginner photographer and love the nostalgic film look the positive film effect offers, other than the effect tweaking you show in this video is there any other settings you recommend I change on the camera for best results. I’ve noticed the autofocus is not the best not sure if there is anything I can do to help with this. I really appreciate your help with this video makes such a big difference and help to first timers like myself.
I love the way the gr2 positive film renders but I struggle shooting indoors with it with the autofocus and noise at higher iso. How did you find the gr3 autofocus and better iso in low light compare to the gr2?
Actually, I agree. Indoors the GR 3 outperforms the GR 2. The step-up in high iso capabilities is really noticeable, though I don't see a significant difference in autofocus performance. Auto white balance is better on the GR 3 indoors too, which becomes very apparent for skin tones.
Hi, I think my Positive film settings were inadvertently changes in my GR II. Would anyone know what they are supposed to be ? (Saturation, sharpnes, etc. , mine are all at 5.) Thank you for any insight...
Interesting comparison! I have Ricoh GR III, I mainly use "film" presets for post-processing in Lightroom. Maybe try to shoot in JPG with standard filters :) How about a video on how to set up your camera? Or, for example, a video of a photo walk with Ricoh?
Thanks for your comment! There are a few good Lightroom presets out there mimicking film but none I like as much as the Positive Film effect on the GR. I don't like walking but maybe I'll do a photo ride ;)
"ok bye" 😂.. this seems to be a similar dilemma to the fujifilm x-e1 vs x-e2 where the x-e1 produces slightly more saturated, warmer colors than future sensored/processored models but what i've arrived at is it's simply the interpretation/rendering that i desire, not the actual capturing of light data.. soo, while i have a very strong affinity to how older cameras interpret light, as long as newer cameras are more capable of capturing more wavelengths/details in RAW format, desired interpretation/rendering can theoretically be achieved in the future with proper processing..
Kinda disappointed when i got my griiix because somehow i noticed that the positive film on it is not the positive film that i want.. first thats the reason why i shift to gr from fuji.. but your vid really helps.. appreciate it ....
It’s true that the positive film On GRi looks very nice and special. But I have a GRiii and don’t think I’ll « downdate » lol, I shoot mostly raw btw. Thanks for the video!
I had the GR Digital 3 for number of years ago and started to miss it very much så last year i purchased the New GR 3 and its soo wow. I haven't tried the Positive film effect yet, is it applied on the raw file?
Raw is only raw data and never has any colour profile applied. You can apply my Lightroom presets to your raw images to get something close to Positive Film colours, however if you want the real deal you need to set the effect in camera and shoot jpeg. Well actually there is one more option: You can apply the Positive Film effect to raw files on your camera but you will have to do so one-by-one. To do so press menu in the playback mode and enter the raw developer.
man, thank you for this, completely agree with your thoughts on the GR2 having the better profile. I have copied your settings and created that as my custom1 preset. Do you know where I could find a recipe for Capture One? thanks
Thanks for your comment! Positive Film just looks better on the GR/GR II. I'm actually seeing more and more people making the switch from the GR III back to these older versions, simply for this reason. Unfortunately I don't know of any Capture One recipe for Positive Film. Let me know if you find one!
I've owned Fujifilm in the past. They have Classic Chrome and Classic Negative, which can be customised...but I've not been able to recreate anything that has come close to Positive Film on the original GR.
Theres two preset files in zip file…tried them on raw file (GR LE) and haven’t seen any difference between those two. (They are for raw files? Not for standard jpg?…i guess)…can you please elaborate some more why you have two lrtemplates and what is your workflow…thanks upfront
Hi Dinko, there should be a difference between the two preset files. They are two of my attempts to recreate the Positive Film look. There are probably only slight differences between them though. The presets are for raw files.
Is the positive effect supposed to emulate the look of slide film? I have a Ricoh GR and find the positive film setting a bit dull and flat. The Vibrant setting produces stronger colours and has more life but maybe I have the settings all wrong?
Yes, the Positive Film effect is meant to look like slide film. Have you tried customising the effects to your liking? You can adjust vibrance, contrast and sharpness.
I take that as a compliment ;) unfortunately, I don't have time to make videos at the moment. I had watched some of your videos in the past, the ones on the GRD I in particular, and really enjoyed them!
I do agree from your side by side's that the version ii looks better. Personally I enjoy editing and prefer to create my own presets so I can make it look how I like so it is a non issue for me but for many these cameras are designed to be as hassle free as possible.
Interesting comparison. I didn't see the higher DR of the MK III (it might have been there), but it looked like the GR III exposed darker. Since you used manual exposure it could just be the tone curve, but it could also be variation in the ISO. Exposing darker will of course protect highlight at the cost of darker shadows, but it was difficult to judge/compare details in really dark areas. I dont have any GR III raw files, but Adobe make "camera profiles" for many models. It might be worth checking if they have that for GR and if so how it compares with JPGs from the camera.
I believe you're right about the tone curve. It seems that Ricoh has changed the default setting of the effect on the GR III resulting in a darker image. This can be adjusted with the high/low key setting of the Positive Film effect making the two cameras more comparable in terms of exposure.
Wanting to buy a Gr2 but the price here is expensive in my country :/ Is it not possible to tweak GR3 to have exactly the same positive film look like GR2?
So GR 2 is more expensive than the GR 3? You can get closer to the GR 2 look with the custom settings on the GR 3 I'm showing in the video...I doubt an exact match is possible unfortunately.
The GRIII is underexposed in almost every shot. It actually has much more DR than the GR and needs more ETTR. This would have been pretty obvious looking at a histogram. This impacts color saturation and the look obviously. Also the GR III image at 4:15 even though underexposed still clearly has more contrast than the GR. So I don’t agree with your characterisation that it’s more neutral or flat with less contrast. Look at the road and sky in each shot. Contrast of course is the difference between the brightest and darkest parts of image.
I agree with you! I much prefer the look of the original. I’ve recently started looking for a GR but it seems like they’ve made a ton of different ones all with similar names. How do you tell the difference between them all?
There are the older models with a small 1/1,8" sensor called GR Digital or GRD. This series goes from GRD I to IV. Although they also have their qualities they really feel like older digicams, lower Mp count and slow to operate. Then the GR was released and soon after the GR II. The GR and GR II are the first Ricoh cameras with an APS-C sized sensor and they are practically the same camera, except the GR II has WiFi capability. Get either of those if you like the Positive Film look I presented in the video. After that there is the GR III, still with an APS-C sensor and some technical improvements like IBIS, but with less image character. The GR III is the latest camera. When hunting for these online make sure you don't confuse the GR Digital II and the GR II or the GRD III and the GR III ;) Good luck!
Only jpegs store the color treatment of effects, raw is only raw data. So you can only get Positive Film color if you shoot jpeg. I however always shoot raw+jpeg so if I want to make adjustments to the jpeg I can use in-camera raw development. Hope that helps :)
Great comparison! I actually went through the same thing over a year ago I purchased the GR III and did not really like the Positive film on it so I purchased the GR II for the Positive film. I love the GR II but unfortunately it is having the same symptom as your GR I towards the end of your video. My GR II is under exposing by 1 to 1.5 stops in bright daylight. I have tried everything including doing a complete factory reset but nothing has helped and yes I have the ND filter turned off in the settings. I posted this problem on the Ricoh GR group on FB and it seems that others have the same problem also, but not everyone. Please let me know if you find any solution to this problem.
It sounds like the same issue! ND is turned off but still seems to be mechanically activated. I don't have a solution unfortunately... I've actually just retired that camera and switched to one that I bought in as new condition.
Excellent video! The colors in your travel photos look amazing. Are you using any custom settings for positive film with your GR, or is everything left to default (5, 5, 5)? Thanks!
It’s very interesting that all of the gr 3 shots seem like they’re taken 3 hours later in the day (very close to dusk in many shots) and that the colours in the gr 3 seem very dull and have no pop, kind of sad but is it more realistic? Your custom settings were very good but there is definitely something very odd there. I owned a gr original and a gr 2 but I had so many sensor dust issues (despite loving the image quality) that I gave up and have ordered a Fuji x70 as an alternative that I hope I will enjoy just as much.
Have both the GRII (agree with the dust, what a pain...) and X70. X70 is a nice camera too, you should enjoy it (and you can use the Nisi filter kit, or circular ND/else filter on both, same ring adapter size). Better noise and DR on the Fuji, and I kind of prefer the Jpeg colors out of the box. The GR has always more difficult with color rendering in post vs the Fuji, be it Raw or Jpeg.
Hi Jakob! Thanks for the video! Great trips and even greater images you took on them! I just picked up a used Ricoh GR II for 200€ and am in love. I believe it still has the same colour profiles as the original GR and has Wifi, so you wouldn't even have to carry a SD Card reader, to transfer images onto your phone. So I wondered, wouldn't the GR II be the sweet spot between the GR I and GR III? Also I wondered wether you had the internal ND turned off on the GR III for your tests? Since it can mess with the dynamic range a lot? ... I agree though, that the positive film looks a lot more film like on the GR I and also GR II i guess, compared to the GR III. The GR III's image looks almost like a sony :-D Beste Grüße und danke auch für das Lightroom preset!
Hi Simon! That's awesome, 200€ for a GR II is a sweet deal! I've paid about 250€ on average for my GRs. At one point I owned a GR II and the files looked pretty much identical to my older GR, however the screen was rendering colours differently so I switched back to buying used GRs. It's not worse, just wasn't what I'm used to. Wifi is a nice addition on the GR II although compared to a USB C card reader connected to my phone transfer speeds are really slow. Image transfer speeds via Wifi was improved in the GR III though. For the comparison the ND filter was off on both cameras, although I now found out that knocking my GR it randomly activates so I'm thinking of replacing it. I agree, the GR III's are leaning towards the digital look, maybe even sonyish ;) I would still prefer it over any Fuji though! Grüße!
@@JakobIglhaut Thanks for your reply! Yes I got really lucky, but I was on the look out for almost a year now for an affordable GR II. I would have gone for a GR I as well, but there wasn't any cheap one popping up. I guess except the WiFi, they are pretty much the same aren't they? Maybe I'll get one in the future for a comparison. I totally agree, I haven't used Fujis much, but I much prefer Ricohs colour profiles over the Fujis. Fuji to me looks more like a filter, also a bit overdone in some cases. Ricohs colour profiles look a lot more organic and natural, more film like. I usually shoot quite a lot of film too. Have you ever used a Ricoh GR Digital, the predecessor of the Ricoh GR? In my opinion they produce the most beautiful colours despite their smaller sensor. CCD sensors in general produce amazing colour when compared to CMOS sensors. Also it's grain noise isn't too ugly. Great cameras and a lot cheaper than the GR if you get lucky. If only the newer GRs where more reliable when it comes to malfunction, dust, rain and so on. And I wish they would shoot decent video but I guess, this would increase the body size to a point, where it wouldn't be the same concept anymore. Oh and another thing I'd miss on the GR III is the built in flash. Which by the way, sony's build in flashes and the fact that you can tilt them upwards with one finger in my opinion is one of the best inventions since the invention of the camera. To be able to quickly bounce flash, wether it be for a quick image of something you want to sell on eBay or in portrait situations, makes for a much more pleasing look if you need it.
@@daurye92 GR and GR II are the same camera except for Wifi and when I compared them side by side I noticed that the screen on the back renders colours differently. At one point I owned a GRD IV and loved the outputs but the on/off and autofocus speed was a step down from my GR so I sold it. Weather sealing on a GR would be the dream of course but I get why they can't do it with the extending lens design. Regarding video....well Sony RX100's are known for decent video and as far as I know they are even smaller than the GR. For images with flash I sometimes take my FlashQ Q20 II with me, which is an awesome little flash that you can shoot off camera or on camera, tilt up for bouncing light off ceilings and I love that it can be charged via USB.
@@JakobIglhaut I'll definately look into the Q20 flash, the only downside though to me is, that for travels, it takes almost as much space as the camera itself. The RX100 and many other sony cameras are great for video indeed, but the RX100 has a much smaller sensor compared to the Ricoh GR and it has the "sony colours" unless you want to shoot in log and then post process. Also the RX100 is pretty expensive in my opinion. Not sure if Ricoh will even bother developing the video capabilities of the GR any further since it is a tough market. And even Smartphones can take pretty decent video these days. I want to move away from post processing though and want to try to use a digital camera more like an analogue film camera. It's just a lot more fun to shoot in my opinion and it is not much fun to post process.
@@JakobIglhaut For the sake of being complete, the GRII also has a bigger buffer than the GR. Shooting in JPEG it would be very hard to feel the difference, if you shoot RAW and tends to shoot a lot/quickly it may fix the lag blamed in some reviews of the GR. I use the WiFi on my GRII a lot, I think it works good. The original webapp was criticized back then but it's actually really evolved and can be used on any device with a browser, including your Linux computer if you don't want to use your smartphone or a proprietary OS. But people prefer dumb native app that favorise the uniformity of the smartphone industry, oh well. Image Sync works ok to simply download the images on your smartphone. I find the speed perfectly fine for images, it may feel slow for videos download.
Hi, at 8:09 I mention IBIS as an advantage of the GR III. It really depends on the kind of shooting you do but generally it does help getting sharp images at lower shutter speeds. I often shoot moving objects and therefore I'm mostly shooting higher shutter speeds, hence IBIS is not essential for me.

Fantastic video, running your setting on my new GR III. I'm wondering if messing with the Dynamic Range Compensation setting, or highlights recovery, also has an impact to change the perceived feeling in the Positive Film GRIII (of course, not sure you have one now to check)
Really nice video and comparison. Thank you for this.
Wonderful recordings with the GRII. I have now also ordered a GR II. Thanks for the video.
Thank you very much :)
The GR II is a fantastic camera! For me the GR III was a downgrade to my beloved GR.
@@JakobIglhaut Is the Positive Film on the GR II more like the original Positive Film on the GR?
Positive Film on the GR II is exactly the same as on the GR.
Excellent presentation and content. Thank you.
Love my GR3. I'll be shooting in positive film. Which white balance do you use? Custom?
this was a great video! I am a complete camera noob, and was wondering if you had any input on GRD vs GD.. just looking for life/memory camera 🙂
Great comparison! Thanks for making this!
The thing I miss the most about my original gr is the exposure comp buttons. I regret selling it 😢
I get that, that exposure rocker is perfect
Hey! Would you have another extra by any chance? I sent you an Instagram message request. Cheers
Awesome video and photos man.
Oh wow thanks man! I've watched a fair share of your videos and dig your style and humour!
I prefer the GR3 version honestly. I always wondered how the older GR did positive film, as most said it was better. Good comparison. Thanks
hi Jakob, enjoyed the video a lot, and your LR presets are wonderful! thanks from a fellow cyclist and GR user :-)
Thanks for the nice comment! Cycling and the GR are a great match!
Old things its always the best :)
Curiously, this is the exact same difference that makes the gen ii fujifilm files pop more than the newer files. I think it was the style at the time and how they dealt with the DR limitations of the hardware.
i wonder if setting griii's exp. comp. to +2/3 or +1 with the custom settings would give a closer look to the grii. it looks close, just darker still.
Or ++ some shadows maybe, it looks like GRi had more details in the shadows somehow
Thank you very much for this. Excellent! Now my iiiX is more to my liking.
Nice comparison Jakob... I too have a GRii... A fun and convenient camera... So much packed in that little body... I'll be sad when mine dies...
It’s sad to think that it will most likely die. My GR1 did but GRDIv still going strong! 💪🏾
Thank you for producing this video :)
Nice work, as I went from GRI to GRIII. I will try your preset 😎👍
Amazing shots. Bravo!
Great video. I wonder if a custom GR III Positive Film could be made that comes close to the GR/GR II look?
Great video thanks 🙏🏼
What would be the best settings to shoot en the GR ?
Interesting video. I just sold my GR3 because I far prefer the Positive Film setting from my even older GRD IV. This little trouper released in 2011 has out-survived a GRI I owned, but then very shortly after developed the dreaded 'won't focus or fire' fault. Very depressing how poorly these cameras are built/made. My next pocket camera will probably be an Olympus TG-7. But I will never part with my GRD IV, as it is such a beautiful thing capable of such beauty.
Every time I decide I’m going to sell my GRDiv I change my mind. I just can’t do it😊

Great video. I have the GR II I wonder if is more like the first GR or the GR III.
The GR II is exactly the same as the first GR. The only difference is Wifi
@@JakobIglhaut Thank you.
Can you make a comparison between the Bleach Bypass effect of both cameras? I loved that effect on my old GR, but that camera is defect and the Bleach Bypass on my new GR III feels somewhat different. I would love to see a direct comparison.
If I remember I'll take a few comparison shots in the beginning of the new year. I never use that effect myself though
@@JakobIglhaut That would be awesome! As far as I know this effect is not as popular as the Positive Film, though it still has a small but quite enthusiastic fanbase.

Gorgeous photos!!! :)
Great video! 🔥🔥🔥
Have a good day.
what would you guys pay for an GRD at the moment? (01/23)
hi
my GRi (they call I the version without WIFI) RIP two weeks ago.
Really great video! Thank you. Will buy 1st version
Thanks! That's the best one to get right now, in my opinion ;)
Per default they are all set to 5.
@@JakobIglhaut Interesting, thank you. I wonder what the settings are when the effect is set to off...
Interesting comparison! I have Ricoh GR III, I mainly use "film" presets for post-processing in Lightroom.
Maybe try to shoot in JPG with standard filters :)
How about a video on how to set up your camera?
Dankeschön für die Presets.
It’s true that the positive film
On GRi looks very nice and special.
Positive Film is an in-camera jpeg effect mode exclusive to the Ricoh GR models. You should give it a go and see if you like it ;)
@@JakobIglhaut Okay but is it Only for Jpeg or Raw too?
Raw is only raw data and never has any colour profile applied. You can apply my Lightroom presets to your raw images to get something close to Positive Film colours, however if you want the real deal you need to set the effect in camera and shoot jpeg. Well actually there is one more option: You can apply the Positive Film effect to raw files on your camera but you will have to do so one-by-one. To do so press menu in the playback mode and enter the raw developer.
If this is done using the raw developer, can the raw settings not then be copied and pasted to additional raw files within lightroom?@@JakobIglhaut
I like the photos from the original GR much better. It has life...caracter
Just bought an old GR. Just enjoy the older look
man, thank you for this, completely agree with your thoughts on the GR2 having the better profile.
I was looking to upgrade from a ii to a iii for the ibis, glad I didn't now!
Dear Sir, Is it possible to create the original Ricoh GR (2013, 16MP) positive film effect with Fujifilm camera film simulation?
@@JakobIglhaut thanks for clarification…i’ll do some more testing and see what is going on :)
Its a shame you never did any more videos. Thanks for the video.
I take that as a compliment ;) unfortunately, I don't have time to make videos at the moment. I had watched some of your videos in the past, the ones on the GRD I in particular, and really enjoyed them!
I've succumbed, I bought a Ricoh GR MK1.....
Awesome, it's the way to go ;) still my favourite and most used camera to date! Looking forward to your video on it!
08:12 Obvious advantages on paper. Shows handwritten note. :-)
Wanting to buy a Gr2 but the price here is expensive in my country :/
Is it not possible to tweak GR3 to have exactly the same positive film look like GR2?
@@JakobIglhaut Have you had any issues with dust getting on your sensor?
Dear Jakop, which file (Raw, jpeg) do you prefer while shooting positive effect mode.
Only jpegs store the color treatment of effects, raw is only raw data. So you can only get Positive Film color if you shoot jpeg. I however always shoot raw+jpeg so if I want to make adjustments to the jpeg I can use in-camera raw development. Hope that helps :)
@@JakobIglhaut Thank you for your respond...
Does the GR have a universal adjustment for exposure comp?
It does and I much prefer the +/- rocked of the older GR to the wheel or toggle of the new GR.
Has this improved at all in the past year, and is the GR IIIx exactly the same?
I'm not aware of any changes. GR IIIx is exactly the same as GR III.
Is that the GR 10Mg or the 16Mg??
16Mp released in 2013
Excellent video! The colors in your travel photos look amazing. Are you using any custom settings for positive film with your GR, or is everything left to default (5, 5, 5)? Thanks!
Thank you :) For all travel photos I showed I had the settings on 5, 6, 7.
@@JakobIglhaut Can I ask what settings you're referring to here? (Great video btw!)
@@jacknewthoughts these are my adjustments on the positive film effect on the GR II. On the GR III the settings are different
I’ve revisit this video and I see you've got the GRIIIx in other comment. Will you keep GRIIIx or sell it in future?

Is positive film similar to GR1 or gr3?
I'm not sure what you are asking?
Waiting your grIIIx review :)
Haha I have it in front of me right now, not sure I will have time to make a review though.
Hi. You didn’t mention the image stabilizer. Does this function really help to gr3?
Hi, at 8:09 I mention IBIS as an advantage of the GR III. It really depends on the kind of shooting you do but generally it does help getting sharp images at lower shutter speeds. I often shoot moving objects and therefore I'm mostly shooting higher shutter speeds, hence IBIS is not essential for me.
@@JakobIglhaut thanks a lot! Now I really thinking of buying gr1 or fujifilm xf1
Where does the gr ii fall into this? Is it the same as one of these or different on its own?
The image output of the GR II is the same as the GR. I've done some testing and couldn't tell the difference between them.
