I was looking for this comparison because I wanted to know what the 5x lens gets me over not having it. I've never had a pro phone before, but I think this is the year for me after watching this.
@@Bradastan I had a talk with apple staff before buying new phone and lady told me that buying a pro is worth it only if taking photos or making videos is your job, that the average customer doesn't use the potential he paid for and the difference isn't that big with day to day use, so I chose the regular ip16. It's also not even worth it changing if your ip isn't older than 3 years.
Keep comparing 5x shoots on both phones is boring and the result is obvious since iPhone 16 doesn’t have 5x lens. I hope you could compare 2x or 3x photos between the two phones.
Apple wants people to buy the most expensive device they can, and maybe the people making this review had been 'informed' of this, and 'asked' to heavily emphasize the advantage of the 5x zoom. I am amazed more people don't know how this clever channel works.
7:32 … 16 n 16 pro don’t have the same primary lens. 16 pro has a much bigger sensor at 1/1.28 inches vs 1/1.56 inches on the non pro hence the difference in quality.

Forget an iPhone comparison video, we need a sibling comparison video at this point! Dropping Ben into the video lineup without introducing him had to be a trick to see if we saw the differences 😂
6:40 the steering wheel dynamic range difference is 100% related to SmartHDR doing something weird. In the left image, there’s no way that the blue sky has roughly the same brightness as the (black) interior of your vehicle, the normal 16 looks like a real estate photo where they double stack exposures to show the sky through the windows. I have no idea why the 16 Pro SmartHDR algorithm produced something so different, but I bet money that if you used a 3rd party camera app to take a Bayer RAW single exposure (Halide, ProShot, Camera M etc), for the same exposure settings, the pics would be much less different.
5:42 its not really “super strange” that the 16Pro macro defaults to 12MP. on regular 16 and previous Pro models, the ultrawide sensor was 12MP, so unless you were shooting macro fully zoomed out at 0.5x, then macro at 1x was a crop and upscale to 12MP (still what the normal 16 is doing). Now, with 48MP ultrawide sensor, shooting macro at 1x is still a crop, but it is cropping into the center 12MP of a 48MP sensor, similar to how the main camera gives “optical quality 2x zoom” with the same center crop maneuver.
You can't test dynamic range on strait out of phone JPEGs. The phone will use computational photography, merging several frames, with different exposures, to make a final JPEG. That has nothing, diddley squat, zero to do with dynamic range. It's all processing, and just that. What you absolutely should include is RAW photos compared. Only then will you see which camera/lens has the best performance. You can test dynamic range by recovering highlights and shadow detail, and you can test for noise levels at different ISO settings on each camera/lens on each device. This should indicate which device has the best hardware. The RAW data hides nothing. And tells you the most. But the computational photography bits are equally important, since that is the one factor keeping the small sensors competing against bigger sensors. Without that it would be impossible to touch bigger sensor cameras. I'm not saying they come close even with computational photography either, but it's far closer than without. So please test both. Also the Pro-devices has lidar, which is the main reason why the fake blurred out background/foregrounds are better on the Pro phones. On the standard phones they can only use parallax camera information to determine the distances. This works, but lidar is both faster and more precise.
maybe the reason why the Ultrawide was blown out on the steering wheel photo on the 16Pro was because you were shooting in either 48mp Heif Max or 48mp Proraw? switching it off should give back dynamic range
Max, something about this video is very different from your usual videos. The mic sounds very different, and not for the better. This also sounds much more like reading a script as well. Even your hair coloring is very different. What's up?
They could've made that camera capactive buttom as a digital capactive button that doubles as a finger print scanmer and programable which can also work for scrolling in browser.
I think what is happening is that with the iPhone 16 Pro/Pro Max, they may be using all three camera sensors as part of the computing process to get the best image. But still, the iPhone 16/16 Plus models are no slouch compared to iPhone 14 and older models with two rear sensors.
Thanks for the video. Nicely detailed! What I'm not understanding is that, if you check the metadata on the Pro's 5x photos, it's only 12MP and it's clear that there is some interpolation happening. It's clear from your comparison that the 5x lens is compressing facial features, as expected with any telephoto lens. What I don't get is why only the 1x and ultrawide are able to resolve in 48MP. It makes me think that the 5x lens isn't quite doing as much lifting as Apple would have us believe. Thoughts?
Thanks for the video, I upgraded to 16 pro and my wife went 16, we take a lot of pictures of our dogs and so for the 16 we probably are fine. Which is good since I told her the cameras are pretty similar.😮
To be fair, considering how much development and tech goes into these compact optical systems, the price increase is actually very reasonable. Samsung had to drop their 10x Optical Zoom system for purely financial reasons. It was too expensive to keep on mass producing.
thanks for video, but your commenting is sometimes funny to me, for example those pillows. there is more detail on 16, also light etc is not the matter of the sensor but also optics, and regular 16 has a lower F stop for example, that's why it has better optical blur sometimes. also, I think I never used the portrait mode, it is "painting" for me, not real picture. the real, optically achieved portrait, is what counts with me (so again lower F stop is interesting for me). with better low light performance and better weight, size and price, I go with regular 16. and to correct you they have different lenses even on 1x camera (they have different f numbers and common how you observed even different focal lengths) and different sensors (iPhone 16 pro have bigger pixels, which should sometimes translate to better shots in low light, but we can see that lighter optics on 16 beats this anyway). so for me, they only tangible advantage of 16 Pro would be 5x and I can live without it.

I previously had a 14 pro and upgraded to the 16 pro. Thermals and battery upgrades are massive. Heck, I even compared to a relative's 14 pro max the smaller 16 pro battery is shockingly good. Other channels have found the same about the pro's new ultra wide... It's terrible in low light... Or at least the dynamic range is terrible... Or at least not as good... Presumably due to the smaller pixels... But maybe an update will improve it... But it could also be simply because reviewers are using it at the full resolution and it's something to do with pixel binning I dunno
I have found that there is little consistency from reviewers on TH-cam with regards to the performance of the new Ultrawide lens on the 16Pro. You can't take photos on an iPhone 16 thinking it will be a professional grade camera or device as it wasn't designed and fine tuned for that aspect, it was designed for the average person who will blow something up to an 8x10 photo at most if at all. The Pro definitely is for larger prints but also has a lot more that can be done with the lenses and zooms for someone who seeks a DSLR camera.
“..who the hell are you?” 😂
You are comparing two different lenses. I’m not sure what you are expecting
it was great to see that someone finally compared 16 vs 16 pro. but we understand that 16 doesnt have the 5x, just why 70% of video is about 5x? just 5-6 photos for zooming was enough. we wanted to see more about ultrawide and main camera
First 3 seconds in the video, no face show but I knew it wasn’t Max nor Vidim. The voice pace is too slow for the 2 big brothers 😂
They’re not the same 1x. The 16 has a 2 micron pixel size compared to the Pro’s 2.44
I wish we’d get a video of 13 pro max vs 16 pro max!
What a shame, I like the 16 better but camera wise the pro is waaaay better. Good to know. I’m waiting for improvements.
I would love to see the 16 pro vs 16 pro max camera diff... they say they are the same but the photos aren't.
Do you own both devices to be able to categorically say that they take different photos?.
2:11 is this digital zoom on iPhone 16 or you just moved forward to reframe the picture ?
in this case it was 2x on the 16, and I framed it in post to match the 5x
@@MaxTechOfficial do u think 16’s portrait result would be similar to 16 pro max if you moved forward to match the frame with 5x
10:30 was this a main camera shot or an ultra wide shot?
This was an Ultra-Wide.
Wait.. He looks very different here. 🤔
this is an AI generated avatar !!
Great job to the new host!
Do we need so long video to understand that 16 Pro with the telephoto lens is better than 16 with no telephoto lens for zooming?
Maybe this video just emphasizes the actual extent of the difference.
Why does nobody freakin test the front camera... jeeze
compare 14 pro max , 15 pro max & 16 pro max please
