  • Today we replaced the Gasket and Filter on my Jeep WJ 42re Transmission. Overall the Job is pretty simple to do but it is very messy! You will get oil everywhere so make sure to lay something down to not ruin your floors! If you feel the transmission slipping after replacing the oil, you probably are low on oil. I had to add about 5-6 Quarts for it to be on the line on the dipstick and running good.
I used the Filter from this kit: amzn.to/3FDt1Ml
    Felpro Gasket: amzn.to/3FGD5nD

If I were to replace the pan, could I drill a hole to drain the fluid? Theoretically 🤔

Should swap out the 3-4 accumulator spring while you have the pan off, I didn't on mine and now have an overdrive to rebuild.

The deeper pan off the 48re will bolt on to these, but you have to run a filter extension and an old style 727 filter that isn’t cased. These filters are actually better because they can’t plug up and can pull fluid from all sides. Only downside is you can only use two of the screws that hold the filter in place but have yet to see anyone have a problem with this.

What’s up Najar. I’ve been watching your videos for a min. You kno a lot about the jeeps. Do you have any knowledge on the rear subframe?

Did you check to see if the 727 filters which filters far superior due to drawing from all sides works? Its the one that looks like all cloth.

Good dirty job bud. My '01 Grand, that I lifted w/all adjustable control arms/trac bar (Core 4×4) has a drain plug on the tranny pan. Someone did something right in past service. Of course I bought it used knowing unlimited potential of '99-04 Grand's. I could go on but why didn't you take the time after cleaning to install a drain plug, not hard to do.

You kind of messed up, while you were in there you should have changed the governor solenoid, sensor, accumulator spring and adjust the rear band... Also you can get the dorman pan with drain plug for only $30.
