Finallly a fellow canadian manga shopper, respect to you for posting this video because most manga shopping vids are all in the U.S💯🤟

Thank you, I really appreciate it. I think it’s nice to see American collectors shop, but as a Canadian viewer the stores they go to aren’t very relatable. Since we don’t have a lot of them in Canada. So I thought I’d show the perspective of what we have going on in Canada.

shoutout Alex (3:50) he's a homie, if you head back you should have a chat with him, he's a super cool guy :) Oh and Shikimori (13:33) has a sticker because of my recommendation so I recommend you pick it up too!

Oh damn I didn't know that you shop there as well. Honestly whenever I used to go to Indigo or Chapters it seemed like most employees would avoid the manga section haha. I noticed a cool change over the last couple of years where there will be stuff that employees recommend and actually put in the front where they keep all of the "Susan's pick" and employee recommended books. I don't really go to this Chapter's that often, but if I do go and Alex is working I wouldn't mind chatting with him.

lol I do enjoy watching the vlog style shopping videos where people just show the shelves and have text of their thoughts, but I thought that some people would appreciate seeing a more raw video. Thank you for watching!

Great video! I liked the pacing and hearing your thoughts on the manga that interests you. I do recommend reading Blood on the Tracks by Shuzo Oshimi (2:46), it's a really good psychological horror manga. If you're also interested in trying out shojo titles, try Blue Flag or My Love Story! :)

I’m glad that you enjoyed watching. Shuzo Oshimi, is that the mangaka that wrote Happiness and The Flowers of Evil? It’s interesting to learn that they have a series out. I’ve never actually heard of Blue Flag. I do read shojo manga occasionally, but it usually isn’t my thing.
I actually watched the anime for My Love Story earlier this year. It was nice seeing a romance manga/anime break away from the usual tropes that you see. Takeo was a pretty great character as well.

Your bookstore is amazing! There were so many first volumes 😩😭🙌🏾!! I NEVER see any Barakamon, I Am A Hero or HxH in my big chain stores anymore. Great video! 💖

I'm glad you enjoyed watching. Yeah you're right that its a lot harder to find early volumes for certain series in person. You either have to look online or find them on the secondary market. Scrolling through a website just doesn't feel the same as actually going into a bookstore and browsing the shelves.

    Another canadain!
Not gonna lie; manga shopping in Canada can be so hard sometimes.
The only negative is- everytime I go......i end up spending over $100 😂

Yeah we definitely don't get as many deals and sales as American collectors do, but when sales do happen. They can be pretty decent if most of the things you want are in stock. Thank you for watching!

imagine still having your local chapters :( Mine got turned into an indigo version about a year or two ago and now has about 50% fewer books and also feels like a hospital/institution. Everything is white and gross and half of it is home goods now. So sad...
The attack on titan ending was... mediocre lol

    • @GurkiratGhuman
      @GurkiratGhuman  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Yeah I’ve noticed that indigo’s seem to have much more non-book related items. The kids section is pretty much just a toy store at the one near me. The home goods area is always really empty as well. So I’m wondering why they made them such a large part of each store.
Also I agree with you on the AoT ending. I’m hoping that I like the way the anime portrays it more. I’m still looking forward to that next year.

@@GurkiratGhuman yeah, I miss the vibe chapters brought. It was always my favourite place to go to as a kid. Sort of sad they're going through this big marketing change. I wish they had simply split the two instead of combining it all into one

That’s great to hear. I actually first read Yotsuba at my schools library as well. That was like over a decade ago at this point though haha. I hope that you enjoy reading it. It’s one of my favourite manga series.
