NOTIFICATION SQUAD: I just wanted to note a couple of things…
    1. I didn't mention this in the video, but I know that Seven Seas also has a reader survey where you can request manga/light novels. I purposely didn’t mention them along with the other publishers b/c of how many of the employees of Seven Seas were fighting for their right to unionize at the time that this video was recorded. Due to the activity of the United Workers of Seven Seas (UW7S). I didn’t want to add more to their workload at the time by possibly sending a surplus of emails at an inconvenient time for them. Thankfully at this point in time Seven Seas has recognized the UW7S. If you would like to learn more about them here’s their official website www.uw7s.com/
    2. While I did mention the economic and industry specific factors that could have affected the sales of comedy manga series (specifically Gintama and Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo). I feel like I did a poor job contextualizing why I think the genre might not “hit” the same way in the English market. Basically I think that certain jokes can be lost in translation when translated from Japanese to English. Also depending on the series there might need to be some prior knowledge of Japanese culture and/or media to make a joke land better. Which at times may not be super common for a casual reader. So a series may not be as funny as it could be unless you have that prior knowledge to better contextualize the jokes. At the end of the day, this is all just my opinion though.

I'm personally disappointed and upset because most of my favorite Precure manga from Japan are currently not officially licensed in English in America. 😢❤😢❤😢❤😢❤

If I consider these causes it's a miracle my favourite manga Detective Conan have english release. Almost no one heard about it in the west, not a popular genre and with more than 100 volume it's a very long series. I recently thinking about why viz don't release a box set despite more than 80 already in english, but now I happy because the fact it even released.
    Thanks for the interesting video!

The topic of Detective Conan's English release came up in a Reddit post a while ago. I don't think any Weekly Shonen Sunday manga series have gotten a box set from Viz. The way that a lot of Shonen Jump series do.
Here's what u/HinamizawaVictim had to say about Detective Conan's English release...
It's likely that Shogakugan (one of the publishers that owns a stake in Viz) is mandating Viz to continue publishing it.
Asides from Case Closed/Detective Conan being one of their flagship titles in Japan, Viz will not cancel the publication of any Shogakugan title based on sales numbers. When the manga downturn happened in 2008 to 2009, none of the slow selling Shogakugan titles (Excel Saga, Kaze Hikaru, Hayate the Combat Butler, etc) got axed, but their releases slowed down dramatically to mitigate losses. (I feel for you, Kaze Hikaru fans.) Meanwhile, several titles published by Shueisha were cancelled (Inubaka, B.O.D.Y., Strawberry 100%, Reborn, Gintama, etc.).
It'd have to be some extenuating circumstance for them to do so, like if a creator leaves and takes the rights to their work with them. (Zatch Bell)

Vamp by Ryogo Narita is a light novel series that 7 seas holds the license for and refuses to print it sadly Narita sensei is who I consider to be the greatest modern writer tied with Nisioisin if you haven't read anything by Narita Sensei Durarara is my recommendation to start with then read his other stuff
