The Elite i20 is love at first sight for me. The bold looks, the hexagonal grille at the front is hard to miss. It feels like it is staring at you, I would say. The sweptback head-lamps and the sleek fog-lamps on the bumper help bring the much-needed 'cheer' to the hatchback's front fascia. Its nice and pleasant from inside-out.

I hear everyone talking about safety norms with Indian cars and blaming Maruti for the fact that they offer below par safety features but it is a fact that the build quality and all other safety features matter less when you are doing highway speeds in excess of 120 which is pretty common and at that speed, if there is a major collision, no fucking airbags save you whether you sit in Maruti or Hyundai or if time is bad, even if you sit in a Audi, you may still die of heart attack :) The safety features in Indian cars is just for customer's satisfaction but when disaster happens, even God cannot save you. Should know what to expect from entry level sedans, midsize sedans and premium hatchbacks. They are fast but never safe. These days people have lot of money to spend that if anything comes cheap, people try to find faults with it, it's as simple as that. I never drove i20 till now but I know that high speed braking above 100 to 120 is not the best on Maruti but one can manage with instant braking and release technique to bring the speed down. The suspension on Maruti is best in class and on Indian roads, I think Maruti beats any car on village roads but on highways, Hyundai's engine was more powerful but now Maruti is coming up with powerful engines with cars like Baleno, S Cross and Vitara and Vitara is sturdy for sure

The design of the front grille, ORVMs, broad shoulder line and blacked-out C-pillar add to the car’s appeal and the i20 now looks more European than it ever did, with a distinct up-market feel.

When elite i20 was launched, it was directly compared to swift because that was the only hatchback worth of a comparison with i20, it had that power, torque, etc. Now with the baleno people say "its just a bigger version of swift with added features" as if its a bad thing, How is that a bad thing ? I won't defend the diesel version, but baleno petrol is unbeatable in this segment not only it is punchier and produces more torque but also gives a great mileage, as good as i20 diesel. Apart from engine, this car is as long as those compact sedans out there. It also has Airbags, Abs and Ebd standard in all variants, run that base version i20 shit through crash test and see for yourself, The so called "Safety" people are talking about in comment section, moreover the amount of plastic used in i20 also disgusts me, suzuki will be exporting baleno so we know the quality is standard for india and international models, turning radius is small too(good thing). Only 20-30k expensive than swift and 30-40k cheaper than i20, this is a better deal. Honestly 80% baleno haters are either i20 owners or influenced by them.

i was in deep love with i20 with his reviews... i went today to see baleno & i20elite... baleno gave me the wow feeling inside.. elite is too compressive... exterior is best of i20 elite.. but in terms of comfort,side mirror views,, baleno is aweome.. 5 peoples can sit in both cars.. but the relief of real 5 seat is in baleno only.. thank god i went to check bbaleno today.. am gonna take baleno now

Believe me, baleno interior feels like a toy. i20 elite is worth for the premium look in interior and exterior. only upper hand baleno has is it's mileage.
i firmly differ on the riding quality. Never felt any less. elite i20 gives you a sturdy feel in highways compared to baleno. I believe thats the weight of the material used in both vehicles. Maruthi was never good for highway rides except for ciaz. of course I am talking about 80-100. these hatchbacks are not meant for 100+, it's the weight and steering feedback that stabilize a high speed ride.
Maruthi exists in the market for it's mileage and cheap maintenance. Resale is completely out of the picture if you are actually bothered about the quality of a vehicle.

Jibin B chandran maintenance and parts cost for i20 and baleno are almost same and little bit different till both car are on production.. when the production of both the car will close .. then there will be dramatic change in price for the parts and in comparison Suzuki will cost much less then Hyundai ..

i20 Elite used to be best hatchback when there was no solid competition. if you sit on rear seat of i20 you get a very less leg space, the AC vent for rear seat passengers does create some problems if you wish to move from one window side to another.. well that's not comfortable.. ! And if you sit in Baleno Rear seat you will see huge difference, Space & Comfort. You also get an option to charge your mobile while on rear seat. Talking about Baleno front seat, Seats are comfortable overall environment looks decent & things are well placed. Plastic quality may not match with i20 though. In terms of features Baleno has almost all the features which i20 has. Mileage of Baleno is more than i20 & prices are less. Maintenance cost is less for Baleno. For me Baleno is the New Hero in this segment. i20 is so common on roads that it doesn't attract people anymore. :(however i20 has now started giving Airbags, ABS from all the models but still I prefer Baleno over i20 due to some of the factors mentioned above. Hence have recently booked Baleno Zeta Petrol (It would have cost me almost 30000 more if i would have gone with i20 Sportz). Why pay more if you get almost everything & some important things (mileage, savings) extra in less price. 2 minor things which I found missing in Baleno are: Auto ORVM (you have to press the button from inside to open/close the mirror, in i20 it also gets opened automatically when you unlock the car). Second alloys are not so attractive.
But you get the same old Swift/Ritz engine for the Baleno where as the 1.4 Crdi on the i20 is much better in terms of power and the turbo lag on the Baleno diesel is unbearble for a 'premium' hatchback.

First thing many people doesn't look that bulit quality. marutis target is milage. so they compromise with body weight. 2nd thing Hyundai will give you Unlimited Km warranty for 2 years. Where maruti gives only 40k km. So from this we can easily decide which car will be long lasting. A car is not just how its look better or premium. Its all about quality.

i 20 is better than baleno , I went for a test drive of both ,baleno was little bit moving up and down if went above 80km/h . It's gave me a worst comfort, but in elite it wasn't like that best comfort , even it looks good (elite i 20)

nithin mohan nithin i think you should again check the features list of both car, baleno has all feature that i20 had and baleno has some additional features like Apple car play etc. it gives u abs ebd airbags across all variant and despite of having smaller engine its performance is equal due to power to weight ratio and in petrol it is undoubtedly much better in terms of power and mileage

Also, the overall build quality of the Elite i20 is far superior than the Baleno's be it the cabin quality or the outer body. Another thing that goes in favour of Hyundai is that they have one of the most refined diesel engines in India.

i 20 is better than baleno , I went for a test drive of both ,baleno was
little bit moving up and down if went above 80km/h . It's gave me a worst comfort, but in elite it wasn't like that best comfort , even it looks good (elite i 20)

I absolutely agree with u that baleno comes with dual air bags as standard and abs and ebd too. But about 75% of Maruti cars score 0 in ncap rating when it comes to safety and don't know about baleno.
The other thing was model badging and it doesn't matter what model u have no one judges u on basis of that only if u have top model where the people will praise u more. And yes the look of baleno gets totally devastated when it comes to lower models -

and despite of having smaller engine its performance is equal due to power to weight ratio and in petrol it is undoubtedly much better in terms of power and mileage
Indian version of Baleno scored 3 stars in NCAP test ratings whereas the european version scored 4 stars as the latter has additional safety package..
