Planning to buy a amt car, first timer. Most of the people say, its not as punchy (maza nahi aata) as manual, what's your openion and second question is, how to drive amt in hilly areas if Hill Hold Assist is not there? like the case Ignis?

When I had an Ignis with AGS in the Uk, it was awful in the cold weather. It would change up too early from 1st to 2nd and Judder. The only way I could avoid this was to leave it to warm up on the drive before driving off. I now have the newer model with CVT and it is much better.

What if the driver or someone else accidently hits the rod and it shifts from AGS to Manual and vice versa ?
Have driven a CVT but not an AGS yet... therefore asking....
If it shifts to manual or back, no worries.
Example you are at 40, AGS has selected 4th gear and you accidently shift lever to manual mode, gear remains 4th and will not change by itself

Hi,
I have very recently started driving my new baleno amt, and by new i mean just 2 days. As i am transitioning from a manual i20 to an amt car I still need some getting used to with the throttle input without clutch.
Having said that i have a small question about an issue am facing while reversing the car which might be due to my wrong driving style but am not sure though.
While reversing the car when i gently release the brake it inches behind in a flat surface but when i had a speed breaker behind me, it dint get over it on its own. I gave a slight throttle input but i was not getting enough power to still cross it(also the front right wheel was trying to get over another seperate small bump) hence the car was swaying forward and backward very little.
Then i had to change to neutral and let the car move a little forward and then reverse it, thats when it overcame the bump. Without that momentum it was unable to do so.
Also once its up the bump there it had sudden acceleration in reverse in that tight spot which i had to immediately brake for!
Overall it wasn't a smooth experience while reversing like i used to have with a manual clutch control.
It is my 2nd day with an automatic. I request to stand corrected if i am driving in a wrong manner here.
One of the tyre might be on one of the bump and rotation wa missing

show a complete video on the uphill drive & downhill drive(places like Uttarakhand,Darjeeling steep hills) (AGS,AMT)which mode also with correct gearshift applicable.
If u are in pune u can find n number of steep slopes and yes u can ride it easily as nowdays we have hill assistance availbale

How stop start is taken care on steep incline without rolling back ? do you think hill hold will be useful in this case which Ignis is missing ?
Don't know about AMT of Maruti, but hill hold and hill decent ctrl are present by default in other automatic gearboxes.
It should be there in AMT also.

Ignis top variant has led projectors. I think most of their top variants in each model of nexa lineup have it.
The light of LED lamps is very annoying and hurts eyes. So I hope Maruti continues with Halogen lamps.

Just put brakes when on red signal and put it to neutral and your car will stop and not move until you put to drive mode again. The engine obviously will not stop while you make these moves.

My confusion is when do I engage N (Neutral)?
If I am at a redlight, do I shift from D to N every time my car comes to a halt.
Will keep the gearbox in D position, at a light stop, damage the gearbox?
Also if we have a P (Park) button, why do we need N?
And finally, if we are in Manual mode, do we need to take foot off the accelerator every time we change a gear? Someone told me that not necessary but I'm not too sure what to do?
P.S. I am very new to automatics. I have an Astor torque converter automatic. Been driving manuals for close to 25-26 yrs, but with automatics, there is a slight learning curve.
Don’t switch your car to neutral at a red light, it stresses the drive line in the car when switching back and puts unnessiary wear on the gear box. It also takes control away from you and and in an emergency can be dangerous(on the same note don’t switch it to n when going down hill as that reduces how much oil gets circulated and is dangerous).
Neutral is for when the car is being towed.
You don’t need to take your foot off the gas when changing gears in an automatic, no matter if your manually switching gears or the car is.
Do keep in mind that your car may be different but this applies to the majority of modern cars.
One thing about an automatic that you should keep in mind is to maintain it more often than a Manuel this goes double for a CVT.

Handbrake is always recommended but yes M1 is equivalent to gear 1

Compared to Honda CVT, how reliable is AGS / AMT of Maruti / Tata?
- Maruti / Tata transmission from Italian company called “ Magneti Marelli “ and from experience “ Italian are the worst in field of transmissions “
- Honda CVT “ built by Honda it self “ some Honda has issues but I think even if it’s bad it will be much more better than Italian transmissions
from my own experience using AGS:
- Not easy to shift ( sometimes you can really feel the gear nocking as going to brake )
- Engine power drubbed down with 50% just for shifting!! I never drive a car that lost that much of power just for shifting.
- For fast rides ( pass a car or any emergency cases ) it will not shift until you remove your foot from ACCELERATOR
