Okay before I finalized on i20 optional variant let me express some reasons which might help others in deciding which car to buy. If you are planning for a mid trim variant go for Baleno if its the top end I 20 with closed eyes. Reasons 1. Corning lights , 16 inch allow wheels that too diamond cut. 3. Rear ac vents. 4. Interior illumination adjuster. 5. Interiors r much better quality. 6. Overall build quality maruti doors feels way to light. 7. Auto retractable mirrors senses your presence due to the key and automatically opens up. Power definitely Baleno has an edge due to it's weight but again for some extra mileage don't compromise on life. Cheers !

Just merely comparing engine power doesn't seem right. Baleno is 250 Kgs lighter than Jazz and 200 Kgs lighter than i20. Power to weight ratio is comparably same to that of Jazz or i20. And it has best in class FE.

After seeing the comments in this post it seems during the period they have commented none of them have actually went to the showroom and saw the car upfront or drove it... Recently I booked the Baleno after 3 months of review from every possible sites and do a test drive of Baleno, Jazz, i20, Tiago, Ford Figo.. and here is my honest feedback... (petrol only as I am buying that and no idea about the deisel) .. I am not suggesting anyone to buy Baleno and not other cars as I respect individual preferences and my intension is only to provide my opinions as honestly as possible ######Pros ---(1.) Baleno is having a amazing ride quality which is far far superior than any of the rival. The power sterring is just perfect .. light in slow speed and gain weight during high speed (I drove it at exact 100kmph) and the worst is still the i20 as the steering is so light it actually gave me a sense of insecurity as soon as I cross 75 - 80 kmph.. Jazz is also very steady in high speeds but has body rolls .. Baleno is amazingly steady in high speeds even having a lighter body ... you dont believe me then drive it once to get the answer (2.) Baleno is the most spacious cabin (some one laughed at this point below so my suggestion look at the figures to educate yourself otherwise you will be a universal laughing material to anyone who understand cars)... in the back seat 3 people can play garba ... the boot space of Jazz is better and also the hump in Baleno is little higher so hard to load heavy luggages ...(3.) Baleno has all the safety features and passed the safety test with flying colours so who ever is talking about the build quality of baleno I suggest please check internet and educate yourself. The build quality is excellent and being a lighter car the doubt was there but it is proved that the quality is much superior than other maruti products ... (4.) In Baleno Zeta (Which I booked) is feature packed and you will have anything you desire for one word it is luxorious (missing projector headlamp and center touch pad - only availabel in alpha) (5.) Baleno Petrol is surprisingly peppy instead having a small 1.2 litter engine and 0 - 100kmph can be acheived in 10 - 11 secs (6.) As usual the best best best mileage in this segment and after service I should keep quite as everyone knows about it (7.) All black interior is awesome (though it is personal preference)and the center console is superbly cool ####### Cons --- (1.) The interior plastic is still that of swift it can be little better to fulfil the NEXA brand (may be the cost plays its part here) even the switches also same (2.) Under thigh support is little less in back seats can be covered with good seat covers (3.) No option to put leather covers or other luxury features from NEXA so one has to search nets for them but need to think about the warranty violation as well based on the product you are putting (4.) I hate the alloy design and planning to change them later once I save some money (after buying this) (5.) no rear AC vents but the AC is so powerful it can be neglected (6) The wait period is currently 30- 31 weeks which is not acceptable at all. Nexa dealer said the production has increased and they will try to provide me my car in 4 months ##### My wish ---Lot of space in the engine hood so maruti should think about a 1.4 or 1.6 litre petrol or deisel variant and it would be awesome

I would appreciate a video comparing the petrol version and automatic versions of the same trio. this is because sales of automatic petrols and petrols in general are increasing.
I was looking forward to a short comparison of the Petrol engines as well, which sadly haven't been included. Also, a crucial thing like ABS & Dual Airbags being standard in the Baleno, hasn't found mention in the review. Majority of the people don't buy the Top variants, which are usually the only ones with safety features (in case of i20 & Jazz). That way, the lower variants of both these cars are nowhere as safe as the Baleno! Just for reference, an NCAP survey gave the Polo & Swift (base models, without Airbags) 0 out of 5 stars, whereas the same cars were tested with Airbags a few months later and they got 4 out of 5 stars! The i20 that got 5 stars was the variant with 6 Airbags, ABS & ESP, which isn't available in India.
There are a few ignorant comments here that bother me though. A light weight car doesn't necessarily mean it isn't safe, it's how the car crumples under impact that matters. Crumple zones in the car are engineered to absorb the energy in case of an accident and isolate the passengers from any injuries. The old Ambassador or the old Fiat that didn't have crumple zones, would actually transfer the impact onto the passengers.
This energy is much greater than is commonly realized. A 2,000 kg car travelling at 60 km/h (37 mph) (16.7 m/s), before crashing into a thick concrete wall, is subject to the same impact force as a front-down drop from a height of 14.2 m (47 ft) crashing on to a solid concrete surface. Increasing that speed by 50% to 90 km/h (25 m/s) compares to a fall from 32 m (105 ft) - an increase of 125%.
So, if a car looks all crushed and disfigured, it could actually mean that the occupants are safe! On the other hand, the safety assessment of a car has to be done by a reputed agency, like NCAP, which has to rate it. The Baleno hasn't been rated as yet, though i expect it to get 4 out of 5 stars, considering it's chassis is 10% stiffer than Swift. Maruti needs to be complimented for offering Dual Airbags & ABS, even in the base variant and also offering it as an additional extra in all variants of Swift & Celerio recently.
Fun Fact: An F1 car weight around 640 Kgs and has an engine with a power of approximately 750bhp! It's the Aerodynamic designer who has the biggest responsibility of ensuring maximum down force with minimum drag.

Some of the information presented seemed wrong to me. You've said 1.2L Diesel, it's a 1.3L for Baleno, you've said 1.4L for Jazz whereas it's a 1.5L engine. There were minor errors which I think should be corrected.
Also, Baleno may have the lowest BHP but the HP to weight ratio is quite competitive and Torque to weight ratio is also quite competent. So, in no way does Baleno feels sluggish or slower compared to the other two.
My pick also would be Baleno due to its fresh look and lot of details given but I would have wished for i20's interiors that are far superior.
Boss i am just concern with the built quality i find it too flimsy i don't go with the showroom people high quality steel and all even the uk carbuyer people mentioned the thought too

hello everyone... I bought New Honda Jazz V CVT variant.. After lots of research, comparison and test drive of Honda Jazz, Suzuki Baleno and Hyundai i20.. I bought this car.
reasons for buying this car:
1. Great mileage in this segment
2. Lots and lots of space in this segment(including boot space)
3. Great Power compare to i20 and baleno
4. Smooth and comfortable while driving
5. Look wise- no one can beat this car
6. Paddle Shift function in this car is awsome..
7. AC is damn good. no need for rear AC vents like in i20.
8. No one can beat IVTEC engine... Best Engine ever..
I don't care about keyless entry and rear AC vents.
and trust me... I already owned hyundai santro, suzuki baleno, HOnda CIty, and right now I am having Grandi10 Sportz... among all.. HOnda provided me the best services, best performance, after sales service etc etc...
Go for HONDA JAZZ. this is the best car in this segment..

Jazz is a globally successful model, looks very stylish Inside too you shall come across huge space and sheer premium-ness too with safety features like dual airbags, ABS and EBD. Mileage is good enough, petrol engine is super refined and quite as a winter night so much so that you wont feel at all that the ignition is on. extremely enjoyable and a stable car to drive. I have JUZZ petrol, in city getting 16-18 KMPL, Thumps up to Jazz!
Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Australia, England, USA every where you find this car.., Buy it you will never regret...!

There were so many contradicting statements in the review. The guy mentions that the Jazz is the best in terms of fuel efficiency but the table shows the Baleno having the highest fuel efficiency. What additional features does the Baleno have over the i20 has not been spoken about. No shot of the three cars rolling together to adjudge which looks better while moving. The reviewer doesn't talk about petrol engines. Looks like a hurried up effort with not a keen eye for detail.
+Aman Sancheti True that. Also, it's not comprehensive enough as far as the totality of engineering is concerned. For example, the Jazz has a smaller footprint than the other two cars, but Honda's packaging wizardry makes it significantly roomier than them (boot space included). Also, the i20 feels very floaty at high speeds, and the handling is nowhere near as secure as either of the two. Also, all these cars come with brilliant petrol engines, all of which are immensely popular too. They should've been compared, too.

+abhishek arya If u live in a big city then after sales service is not a problem. Maintenance cost for Polo diesel and I20 Diesel is similar. My family owns both of them. For Fiat punto I could agree that Availability of parts could be a problem as PUnto is not exported from India nor Punto has a respectable sales numbers
+scorpionbeware +1 for new Ford Figo. That diesel engine is an absolute hoot to drive and the quickest of the lot. Even then it manages to give great mileage. Tired of Maruti's old wine in new bottle routine. I dont care what the sales figures are or how 'European' the hatch looks, it still has the weakest engine in this segment and totally not worth the premium Maruti is selling it at.

What i find is your review is very biased towards Baleno. I20 has got many more features than baleno. Baleno doesnt even have a cooled glove box. Baleno only has got a better exterior. But the interior is made of cheap plastics unlike jazz and i20. It doesnt even have a 6th gear making the cabin very noisy. You have given wrong information about cabin space, Jazz has most space.
Baleno waiting period is 6 months.
What more pain is Dealers give no honest picture of this waiting period ... dont understand how many of the buyers wait for 6 months after booking to get it .. :)

Baleno really is a nice car but the waiting period is too long .I booked baleno alpha petrol on 23rd November and still haven't got delivery and the guy at nexa say it will take about 3-4 weeks more. Maruti really need to increase the production right now.They are loosing customers because of this waiting period.
If you are not considering style and look Tata bolt is best choice because its top end almost 2lakh cheeper then i20 and jazz.and giving almost all features.

kerb weight of the i20 is shown as 1222 "mm" please try to correct it.
I would like to mention a big point which no one has pointed out. As Baleno is light weight, everything fitted is so light. The biggest disappointment for me are the bumpers. They are so fragile, even if you press it hard then also it will go inside. Its so light. BIG DISAPPOINTMENT.

ok First thing. at 3.00 he mentions Baleno having 1.2 l diesel engine.. isn't it 1.3? and he says it had the smallest engine yes.. but how has the reviewer overlooked the fact that it is the car is the lightest which is a strong point? even super cars are checked for their power to weight ratio.
another conveniently overlooked fact is why did he snub the topic of fuel efficiency of baleno because of the tiny engine and reduced weight.

there are only 2 things going for Baleno, space and features, in all other departments it is a lull, if you say that the engine performance does not matter in this segment then sit 4 in the Baleno and see how much you have to work out with the gearbox in the urban traffic to keep pace with the other 2, I think i20 is still the winner in diesels here.

Being a avid follower of overdrive, it hurts when auto specialists like Bertrand go wrong with the specs of the motor being put to test by himself. C'mon, the whole world knows the national diesel motor of India is a 1.3 ddis and but it is mentioned by Bertrand as a 1.2L diesel motor even though its 1248cc in actuality ! Hope overdrive does not give away its reputation with such silly mistakes...could also dent the perception of the image people may have for the Baleno !
This review didn't come across as unbiased... Bertrand D'souza clearly liked the Baleno from the start and made no bones about it. I have test driven the Baleno and the Jazz back-to-back and I found the Jazz way better to drive... steering feel, pedal feel, gear shifts, all felt significantly better on the Jazz. Plus the Jazz variant being shown in this video is not the top-end VX but the one below, the V variant, which comes with a smaller multi-infotainment screen and no magic seats (the selling point for this car as it makes the car so versatile)... at least be fair with the review by selecting similarly specced variants - Maruti Suzuki Baleno Alpha vs Honda Jazz VX vs Hyundai i20 Elite Asta (O).
He seems to have less knowledge about these cars. He is saying Baleno has 1.2 liter diesel engine. Since when Maruti started to make 1.2 liter diesel ? It's the Fiat sourced 1.3 liter Multijet Diesel and as everyone knows Maruti calls it DDiS. And Baleno's interior is solidly built! Seriously?

Not a good review, so far from other channels... baleno is spacious and its good, that's needed in must for longer drive.
Baleno looks fresh and solid whereas i20 looks outdated by now, nomatterwhat the facelift it has received. as for the jazz, looks like a buffed up maruti 800--just too japanese. i20 needs to reinvent itself thoroughly to give the baleno a run for its money. Baleno wins the competition hands down.

My dear Friend, trance is correct, I have Jazz Petrol 1.2 years Old already 12 K done superb high speed dynamics compare to these cars , yes i agree it is slow to respond at lower RPM but it doesn't mean that is slow engine , once you touch 2000 RPM throttle response is unlimited , at 150 + speeds vehicle is stable and very smooth engine and it needs to be revved hard , IVTEC engine can't match with any other engine , simply no non sense vehicle , Pl ask any Jazz owners will give genuine feedback

Those who are saying this review is biased are just ' keyboard warriors ' assessing cars on the basis of their own skewed mentality : READ ( Ignorance ) , I am myself looking for a premium hatchback and after carefully assessing all the above 3 mentioned cars personally I can gladly say Baleno offers the best of the rest two cars .
Feature wise it offers the 2n top model offers Alloy wheels , climate control , Uv treated windows at a much cheaper price point, which are the main USP of i20 . The top model offers Rear view camera Apple Car play , Daytime running lights , what more can you ask for ?
Space wise it offers comparable space as Jazz and ample leg room for a 6 ft guy at back seat .
Service wise you get the premium NEXA service which prioritizes you over the conventional Maruti customers .
Engine is the old and trusted Swift Diesel and petrol which has the widest availability and lowest cost of spares .
Jazz is the clear winner in the rear space and still he says Baleno is the winner. Wtf is happening?

Tried all three. This video is a little or infact swept totally towards Baleno just as how Bertrand had put it. How did i identify it ? 'Baleno was better looking than Jazz and i20' I could not control my laughter ! However according to my experience Jazz was good, i20 better and Baleno was my shortest ride among the three had to park the car somehwere so i could get out :D
Kindly crosscheck ...Jazz is the most spacious car in this segment

To all the people who are worried he is not doing reviews of Petrol cars, I think he actually ' is 'coz for each car he drove he said it feels like a petrol" I mean. it just cant be..howmuch ever you refine an engine, you can "feel" the difference between a petrol and a diesel engine...which means either you are running out of jargons or you are genuinely driving petrol cars...or did he just troll himself:-P
1. The design of baleno looks like european.!! LOL..Have you ever seen european cars.?
2. Best part is.., Baleno is solidly built. Ha Ha.. If it was solidly built, then why it weighs the least among the cars in comparison.?
3. LOL., The most spacious among the three is Jazz, not baleno.
4. If you are not able to deliver the right content (said 1.2l instead of 1.3l for Baleno and said 1.4l instead of 1.5l for Jazz), the review is useless. Facts like Engine specs, boot space are basic things which has to be said right.
Seems like he decided before the review, to offer the winner title to Baleno. If so, you can just announce instead of driving it and wasting the fuel...
Whole idea of up shift is skewed in all the automobile reviews in India. What do you expect, car provides same amount of power in all gears? Well, I do not want to comment on cars, they all are good considering their brand positioning. It's about choice. Better architecture or better features.
Ali the swift is the good combination of ride and handelling but the quality of safety equipment like ABS the maruti is giving is very bad and u know this very well

I have never seen you people talking any thing good about other car apart from Maruthi. You will even compare Maruthi with Merc C class and say Maruthi is better..
