    I have since upgraded to an electric soldering iron that I like a lot more than the butane powered one. The one I bought isn't available any more but this soldering iron looks to be very similar. A good soldering iron makes all the difference.

    Great tutorial! My driver side works now. Just need to wait for 2 more relays so I can do the pass.

    Thanks for the excellent instructions. Much harder than I expected to remove the relays. Not always able to remove all the solder using the iron & sucker. After removing some of the solder, cutting the exposed pin then heating, pushing & prying helped. Don't try this repair unless you have excellent close vision & lots of time & patience....otherwise you can find on ebay guys offering the repair for less than $100....well worth it.

      I agree, getting the old solder out was a pain. I recently did a video on resoldering the relays on the EBCM. For that project I bought a flexible magnifying glass/light with a stand. Made it much easier to see the tiny stuff. And I also bought a better soldering iron, so that helped too. Electronics repair is definitely an acquired skill. And unfortunately this Corvette is giving me a lot of practice, haha. Congrats on surviving this project!

      @@ScrufsGarage I had put this project off for 2 years and being on Pandemic lockdown gave me the time to tackle this repair. i had a flexible magnifying glass but no light....will look on ebay or amazon for one with a light....good investment for future projects. Now onto the rocking seat fix while still on lockdown. Thanks again &keep posting your excellent videos!

    Did this last weekend. Not hard but helps to have an extra set of hands. Great results after the replacement.

      Awesome, glad to hear it went well for you. It's not "hard" but does require patience. When I first got the car, I also had to resolder the resistors on the back of the hvac display. It's a shame the GM electronics are so problematic.

      Yep, had to do that one too. I think it had to do with removing the lead from solder. But what do I know.

    I find that any stranded wire like speaker wire works good on small things for a solder wick.
    Just don't twist it to tightly and be sure and dip it in flux or solder paste before using.
    I hate trying to use a solder sucker when other components are close because I actually suck at using them.

    Verify the “conformal coating” standard for the board. You can airbrush or brush on to reseal the board.

    Great video! You seem to be pretty knowledgeable. I am having an issue with my 2000 vette driver's side door. Window controls go out along with lock controls, only drivers side. Mirrors and settings buttons still work. Tried turning car on and off a few times, bangingon the door, slammingthe door along with cursing at it, but still didn't work, but came back to the car 3 hours later and controls all worked. Is this similar to the issue u were having?

  • @JasonDoyle1

    Are you 100% positive that the bottom relay is for lock? My problem is that driver door will not lock via door panel or FOB. Passenger side works great. I replaced the bottom relay of the driver side door control module but the problem persists. Perhaps the bottom relay is not for lock?

    I just had a new bcm installed and drove it home fine....but now everytimr I open the door the alarm goes off. Is this what I need to do too

    • @ScrufsGarage
      @ScrufsGarage  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Are all of the door locks locking and unlocking via the remote? If the control module thinks the doors are locked, but then you open the door (because the lock actuator isn’t working), then the module may set off the alarm because it thinks you broke into the car (ie the door opened when it should have been locked). I found that I also had a door lock actuator that wasn’t working. (I did a video on that also fyi).

    Can a relay cause weird shot to happen? Like having to adjust your mirror before you can roll your window up or down lol what were your symptoms on this? Thanks!

    • @ScrufsGarage
      @ScrufsGarage  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmm, it sounds like you've got something funky going on. Not sure if a relay would cause what you described. I have seen grounding problems cause all kinds of weird issues, so that might be something to consider as a check point as you're diagnosing things. There are several good threads about cleaning ground locations on the corvette forum.

    If your actuator was bad, how do you know for sure that one or more of your module relays were bad?

    Are there any other companies that sell this relay? The company you bought yours from only allows orders over 100.

    • @ScrufsGarage
      @ScrufsGarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hmm, that's weird, but you're right, it seems like DigiKey is only selling them in 100 packs now. The relay is a JSM1-12v-5. I just did a google search and found a seller on ebay, $12 for a 3pk with free shipping. (www.ebay.com/itm/401565721223) I haven't used that seller so do your own due-diligence, but it seems like a fair price. Hope that helps.

      I don't believe a new door control module is available any more. There are some used ones out there, but since these issues are so common, I wouldn't trust a used module. And there are some repair services out there, which could be an option for someone who doesn't want to do the repair themselves.
