Mover, this is probably the best review of a flight simulator product I have ever watched/listened to. I don’t agree with all your viewpoints but I do agree with the way you presented them. After 4+ years of hearing content reviewers pile adjective upon adjective to say they recommend a product or a feature of a product, this is a refreshing turn around and I hope it inspires some reviewers to modify their style somewhat. Thanks a million.
i'm excited to go through the training and checkrides, but i agree they should be optional. also agree losing progress because of a not-in-game interruption is frustrating.
@@Redridge07 True, but that's part of the game play in other games. This is the first critical review of the new version...which I think is great. I know it can't be all butterflies and rainbows, but you're the only one that pointed out the buggier aspects. Thanks for the honest preview!!!
Im with you on the Cessna checkrides. After flying ag and being a real CFII, it's like buying a NASCAR game and having to take a drivers liscense test in grandmas Buick.
LOL, so true and you have to do parallel parking on a hill. With the lack of physical feedback, not having 190 degree view (just 90), only one monitor, good luck getting a good feel of the plane in msfs 2024, without even getting into the pop ups we have to deal with the 30fps, the lag, etc.
A lot of racing games have that exact feature and to be honest it helps provide structure and open your eyes to different aspects of the game. Even as a harcore simmer with 1000s of hours I'm happy to do a couple of checkrides
You're essentially describing the early Gran Turismo games where you had to pass the different graded licenses to access that grade's events. And if you're wondering who misses that kind of thing in games these days, it's me. I do. I miss it. Let's have more of it.
100% agree with your views on the lessons and check rides. Been flying enough I don’t want to waist my time on lessons or check rides. Should be up to each user’s preference.
I 100% understand why pilots wouldn't want to do the base level check rides. For me many who want the experience without the money I think the check rides and lessons are going to be great. I think k the solution is a check box; Do you want to skip training "yes" "no". If they already have a developer button for it, it's just a matter of renaming in the code and jobs a gooden. Also tha is for the review, I was not going to get this until I saw the firefighting and SAR content
@@NicolajFlies , A reason to upgrade if it was fixed. Did countless things to get a smooth gameplay, some worked remarkably well but after a restart of the sim or few days later it was there again, vanilla or not. Don't think they will able to solve it, its part of the engine they use.
i like the walkaround i just dont want to be punished for not doing it every time. sometimes i just wanna get in the air to do some dumb maneuvers before going to work in the morning
I really like your take. You were invited by Asobo to test this out and you had every right to feel obliged to give it only positive feedback..but you kept it honest.
Grand Turismo 2 had the licence tests to get certain level licenses to compete in certain races. So this isn't new. However that game also came with an Arcade mode disc so you could just play if you wanted. I'm sure this will be annoying for some but it's not a killer
yeah let game devs make games too. Looking forward to build up a company. But havent really heard more about what you can do with it at a later stage. Do you have ai flying for you etc?
Agreed! If I play a new platformer I don't want to skip the easy levels any more than I want to skip the check rides. Makes me feel more like I had to go through the prices to get where I am.
It’s always fun to get invited to meet with Microsoft on a pre release. I used to work for a commercial FS add on company and I got to do that with FSX. Looking forward to this release and I hope VR is improved. Good video.
Man that A-10 cockpit is ROUGH lol. Thanks for the objective video, everyone else has just been spewing how amazing everything is and I appreciate you giving an actual honest opinion.
As a non pilot I do not mind the career mode requiring to do check rides etc. I can see why people do not like it, but several games require you to go through and unlock stuff. Looks good, might wait because I bought the previous flight sim just a few months ago 😂
A fair review means mentioning the cons as well as the pros. Remembering that this is a review on a beta version. Having said that, I would expect features to be working by release, severe bugs ironed out, but I would not expect design changes with only two months to release. Still, being a person who enjoys scenery based flights most of all this looks like a very good upgrade for me. I hope they have a decent random failure system built in to keep you scanning the instruments.
I remember flying into NOLA in the early 2000’s and there used to be an F-14 Tomcat on the ramp on the north side of the field. If they’re gonna keep the old terminal, at least they could have made the NOLA F-14 flyable! 🤷🏼♂️
As someone who is beginning the process to get into piloting in real life, having a digital space where i can go and have it all there for me is exciting. The career mode for me is the most exciting game to come out this year since helldivers and gray zone warfare
As a pilot I agree with you feedback. I don't have the time to go through videogame checkrides. I am an ATP. I've also flown MSFS since 1995, why do I suddenly need to start from ZERO. It makes no sense and should be an option.

@@beefjezos2713 That’s the problem. They say it’ll be available “someday” but that’s it. I just want confirmation of when it’s coming. Until then, I stand by my statement that nobody is talking about it and it’s still the thing I’m wanting most.
As a high time pilot with many ratings I agree in having NO interest in starting over again. I use the sim to keep IFR skills sharper and also pre-fly fights I have planned. Good review
Feel free to keep using free flight. It behaves just like before. The chedkrides are not required unless you want to do the different kind of career missions.
Thanks, out of all the previews that just went live. Your opinion is among the ones I hold highest. I'll most likely pick it up on day 1 like I have every other release since fsfw95.
thanks for the honest review dude, these days it's really rare to get that on youtube. I feel kind of on the fence about it, definitely going to wait a while after release to buy it, if I do. Not sure I like the more online approach at all. And yeah the maps still look hideous, with that weird green tint. You'd think the US would be updated by now at least. The career mode sounds really cool but I really don't understand why this all couldn't have been an update/DLC for 2020.
It's actually impressive how good 2020 is and how much better this one is to even that version. Not to glaze it or anything and there's definitely a lot of things to touch up but given that this is early footage, I'm optimistic.
I was considering pre order but this videos changed my mind. Looking forward to it but I only have slots of time in between the family and work to be able to play. I don’t want to have to spend hours building up my career path. I’ll carry on watching to see what you think when it comes out proper. Thanks from the UK!!

you should just never pre-order a game ever, period. just wait until release, it'll be still there waiting to be bought.
I fell the same way. Now days pre ordering any game is not a good idea due to buggy releases. I miss the old days when games launched fully tested without any major bugs.
@@CWLemoine Current ATC is very ordinary and requires an addon to get anywhere near acceptable. The addon also has traffic injection so it addresses both.
4:20 This was a great question, and it really tied together the review perfectly. Asobo's target audience for this game are the adults and kids who haven't figured out that a career as a pilot is not only attainable, but can be fun. Albeit in a sort of arcadey way, and at the cost of actual pilots and seasoned simmers who just want to hop on and have fun. I'm fine with this.
...Finally again. My prayers have been answered. Career mode with flight licenses. Just like before. So I had to buy the Collector's Edition straight away, and not "just" fly in the Game Pass like with the slimmed down 2020 version. I'm happy to support something like that^^ Thank you ♥
Its a videogame. The equivalent to "grinding" up levels on some massively Multiplayer online role playing game in a persistent dynamic in-game world. Think of them as "Quests" you get from a NPC. you get your bunch "quest" to do PPL maneuvers. Level up to a private pilot. One quest to perform power on stalls. Another quest to perform ground tracking maneuvers. Another quest intercept and track a VOR radial. Then you unlock leveling to the Instrument certificate. Then those quests you get from the NPC to level to IFR certificate.
Another flight sim was trying to do the step check ride to open mission or other aircraft ! It failed and the dev had to change it to keep the sales and use of their product
That's great Microsoft team had you come out again and test the 2024 MFS it looks like an awesome adventure for you. I'm like you having to go through checkrides to unlock missions is kind of cruddy then if you if have to leave the mission everything you eared goes away, grr I really hope they can fix that part well and your loved airport lol, anyway thank you so much for showing us your input into this Simulator if I ever get one I'd never leave it, have Cheeto fingers and stains on myself from playing all the time.
I saw about 5 videos with the MSFS2024 content today and you are THE FIRST AND ONLY GUY who pointed out some things which are bad. Others are on some kind of weird hype train I cant say a bad thing about the MSFS24 .. so without further ado.. Thank you. btw the a-10 footage showing physics and aircraft behavior was really horrifying.
I hope for instant action too. They might be trying to lower the bar by making it easier for console and casual players to get into it without being overwhelmed. The hardcore community represents a subset of the market, and player retention is probably their objective, by getting newbie pilots to feel confident flying. That said, I always started out flight sim as a kid by just goofing off, pick an airfield, a plane, and pretend I'm awesome.
8:37 Flying over the Apollo XI R/C field in the Sepulveda Basin, L.A. I once got to sit in the cockpit of a CL-215T at Van Nuys...so many familiar things in that shot!
Great video! Don't like the mission progression idea, especially for those coming over from DCS. Would love to have that amount of highway traffic in NOLA for real!
I feel like the pilot shortage wouldn't be such a big deal if they made aviation more accessible. I would love to get my private pilots license and beyond. The reality is that people like myself just can't afford the training or the schooling.
Yeh, the whole "inspire the next generation" thing is just marketing waffle. In my lifetime there's never been a shortage of want-to-be pilots, just that the majority of people simply cannot afford the training. With the exception of a few and far between zero hour to commercial scholarships (which are highly competitive), aviation has always been financially out of reach to most people, which is why flight simulators like MSFS do so well.

I'm with you on that. I just want to fly for an hour or so and that's it. Not only do I not have any time at all, I just want to fly and do what I wanna do with my little time and try to have fun. Big reason I never got into msfs
I absolutely get where Jorg and the guys are coming from but....if you want to add a measure of realism to the sim then considering my planes from msfs 2020 will transfer over and everything there are four things I absolutely need. Squadron hooch bars, crud tournaments at the O Club, bat hanging, and Dos Gringos to be a part of the official soundtrack. IYKYK.
I 100% don't want to loose time doing all those license stuff so I'm not even sure I'll check the career mode. It's good they implemented it, it will attrack and make digital tourist stay longer for sure but free flight is all I care about in those conditions.
They could do different modes like easy, normal, hard and hardcore. Hardcore could be the mode that you could lose the plane and so forth. Easy and normal could be for the casual players who might have to log off mid flight.
A sense of progression is something that I have missed from many games, so tbh despite sharing some of your concerns I'd like to go through the "proper" career at least once. I'm slightly skeptical but open to it!
I'm excited for the release. I'm not really sure the missions are my cup of tea, but I'll give it a try. As long as I don't have to drop a DPE a grand for every checkride, I'm fine with that. Was personally hoping for same A/C multiplayer support. Would love to share the same cockpit with friends or aviation TH-camrs.
I totally agree with those who don't have that much time to play all day and would like to skip practicing what they are pros at or at least very experienced at. I'm not a little kid with vacations and stuff, but I like to fly for an hour or so after work. I would appreciate being able to decide for myself if I need the training. I am sure not to get lost that often!!! Maybe its fun, I don't know. I remember the training missions in the past sims which were pretty hard to pass sometimes due to 'not that perfect realization' and that really annoyed me so I didn't ever complete one of them. Hope it will be seriously improved here. BUT besides all that grumbling, I am looking foreward as hell to this new sim!!!
I love the idea of a mission-based campaign. One thing that is a barrier to flight sims is frequently the lack of "game" mechanics to hook players into becoming better pilots. The campaign will has the opportunity to expose people to types of planes, countries, and different subcategories of aviation they otherwise would not have sought out. For those who want the experience but need more "game" in their "sim", I am optimistic about this one.
MS going full Ubisoft, "I give you free vacation you shill my game." Nice to see Mover giving a real critique, the only reviewer I've seen so far that didn't just "omg soooo awesome" everything. I knew it couldn't be as perfect as they said so thanks very much!
I am not a real pilot, but I have been playing flight simulators since the 1980s and I just want to jump in and fly around, I am 50 years old and when i buy a game I want to be able to play it the way I want right away...I do not want to be stuck in training for 2 or 3 days. Training missions are nice, but I will use them when I want to or need to learn something. So I agree with Lemoine on this one.
Based on your video, I see FM is still an issue. If only they approached DCS (A king of FM, better "feel" than mil-sims) to assist. Heck, even their old Su-25 FM from decade ago is still better than a Cessna in MSFS.
I only have a PPC and around 110 hrs of flight time, but I agree. I don't have any interest in going back to doing training or checkride stuff that I've already completed (and not that long ago). I'd much rather just pick up from where I currently am. If I didn't have any flight experience I'd probably be completely on-board with starting at the beginning. Besides, it's a game; Nobody is hurt by your trying a mission before you actually know what you're doing. I don't understand the resistance to your suggestions. Side note: I'm curious how much different the apparently-European (I think) team's approach to flight training might impact future American student pilots' experience. Might not even be worth mentioning, but like I said, I'm curious. This mostly stems from the fact that I have noticed some minor differences between procedures taught by my instructors (the first was an active duty Navy flight instructor, the second a complete civilian).
I am a simple man and just want to fly a A-10 into a tornado as well as fly stupid fast and see the sights in cool planes. The idea of a recruiting tool and the cooperation with firefighting orgs, USCG, etc is an awesome idea.
I hope they listened to you. It's a game. If someone wants to go crash while ferrying smoke jumpers, let them do that. It's not a substitute for actual flight training. I like the progression concept, but you should be able to jump to anything you want.
Did you have a chance to thoroughly check out the flight planner? The reason I ask is because I remember seeing leaked photos of the flight planner a month or so back looking a little more like navigraph and seeing things like suggested routes etc. Also saw a video where it was said etops planning was in there as well. In the version you sampled, which I assume is an alpha, the flight planner (or EFB) looks a little dummied down. I noticed in a few videos in selecting an IFR plan, it showed SIDs and STARS with transitions but no waypoints in between and nothing about suggested routes. Just wondering if you could confirm or remember. Thanks
I did not get a chance to dive into it. Too many other things to try in a short amount of time. Hopefully I'll get to do a full review before it's released.
The reason I got FS2020 was for the visuals and to fly around my home town (Toronto). There were a few aircraft that I love and have them for 2020. The flight dynamics, as you said, is a bit arcadey and I knew that way back when. I use DCS for flight fidelity. The one single thing that frustrated me was the poor ATC (in DCS as well as 2020). I did buy a copy of Beyond ATC which seems to be addressing all the ATC issues like traffic injection and comms. I would imagine that 2024 won't have any kind of ATC that Beyond ATC has. (God, I wish DCS had access to Beyond ATC!!!)
Great video. Something of a long shot but I don't suppose there was any mention of custom POI's. It would be nice to have an easily accessible way to do this without jumping through dev mode hoops and so on. It's not something I'd need for launch but it would be good to know it's on the way.
I think the issue is a few things, one is that many players are lazy and when given an opportunity to skip anything they will do it even if doing it will hurt them. This means a new/kinda new sim player might not feel he needs to do the test and skip ahead causing him headache and pain latter in the game. Also depending on how penalties are given this could cause a player to soft/hard lock themselves. The other thing is by making an experienced sim player go through them they can understand what the game will be judging them on when they do the missions that corresponds to the licenses type. An experienced sim player could feel the game is cheating him if he gets docked for points, he never knew the sim was judging him by. Making the player get the license basically says "Here is what you will need to do and this is how we feel it should be done". Now I agree doing the license in sim could get tedious for GA and the early stuff, I think a compromise would be an option to skip but you need to take a 5- 10 question multiple question quiz based on the license. The test should take an experienced pilot less than 1 minute per question. If the user fails the test even once then they must do the in sim license test, doing this will allow experienced Pilots through and weed out in experienced pilots who are just trying to skip. Also the test should have a time limit so someone can't just google the answers.
That’s silly. It’s a video game. If people want to flail, let them flail. The answer is to have a career path (as it is now) and an instant action/quick mission option so people can do the missions without doing the career. It’s not that complicated.
Thanks for sharing this Mover. I've been flying MSFS 2020 pretty seriously since it came out. I helped kickstart one of the first virtual fighter wings, where we flew the F-15. This has developed into what is now vTAC, which is the largest group flying fighters in the sim. Obviously, you can't do weapons employment, but I like being able to fly MTRs like Sidewinder and the Million Dollar route up in WA. This is mainly the type of flying I am interested in. I've flown very little general aviation or airliner stuff. Occasionally, fly a cargo route out of MEM. I haven't flown any of the missions in the current sim and honestly, probably won't be interested in any of those in 2024. I don't need Arturo to tell me how to fly and sign me off on anything. I am like you in that you should be able to just go fly whatever rather than having to go through the phases to qualify for it. Anyway, again, thanks for sharing this. Looking forward to seeing it next month!
The career path should be an option, just like all of the scenarios should be an option. One you progress in a career over time, the other, you do what you want when you want, and just enjoy the game for what it is. A game. Looks like a fun game, hope it's not as insanely large, and always requiring tremendous updates, like FS2020.
There's still that thing about on a sunny day the lighting looks cartoonish still. I don't get why they can't get this right. I've been wishing for it since 2000. The dusk/dawn lighting is awesome, it's always that "high noon" thing where objects aren't bleached out enough. It's like they post-process it with HDR till it looks like those oversaturated realtor photos on home listings.
When I was undergoing selection in one of the Kazakhstan airlines, the head of hr called me pity simmer instead of being grateful for my passion towards aviation, and now I can see that msfs 2024 will drive future pilots to proceed with airline pilot career…

This is the first critical review of the new version...which I think is great. I know it can't be all butterflies and rainbows, but you're the only one that pointed out the buggier aspects. Thanks for the honest preview!!!
one of the most epic mover moments
That’s so cool that you learned how to fly out of Ahart in Opelousas! Grew up in Opelousas and i’m there all the time.
@@secondrule im terrible at Sims. Lol
“I don’t want to play video game check rides” 😂 Best quote of the month. Thanks again for sharing.
One thing is sure the stuttering is still present. 18:38
I like the walkaround, gives more connection with the plane.
Yep. Saw it in all the videos people uploaded. Yes it’s early access but I think we’ll have all the 2020 problems yet again.
@@NicolajFlies , A reason to upgrade if it was fixed. Did countless things to get a smooth gameplay, some worked remarkably well but after a restart of the sim or few days later it was there again, vanilla or not. Don't think they will able to solve it, its part of the engine they use.

You can just do free flight
I’ll do all the check rides, gotta get those achievements. Bring on the career modes.
yeah let game devs make games too.

Looks good, might wait because I bought the previous flight sim just a few months ago 😂
I'm really glad you spoke your mind, expressing what most of us would say.
There is no f-14 in Nola, none that I’ve ever seen in the last 15 years. If it was there it is long gone well before 2010’s

I like the mandatory lessons. Reminds me of Gran Turismo, that was fun.
As a pilot I agree with you feedback. I don't have the time to go through videogame checkrides. I am an ATP. I've also flown MSFS since 1995, why do I suddenly need to start from ZERO. It makes no sense and should be an option.

I like the way the career mode is built with the licenses and certifications, it's like a tutorial/progression in some ways.
As a high time pilot with many ratings I agree in having NO interest in starting over again. I use the sim to keep IFR skills sharper and also pre-fly fights I have planned. Good review
You can still do this
Feel free to keep using free flight.

Do you need something like 100 mpbs down to even play it, at any setting? Or can you set cache to function with lower internet bandwidth?
I was considering pre order but this videos changed my mind. Looking forward to it but I only have slots of time in between the family and work to be able to play.
Good honest review thank you.
...Finally again.
It’s not a video game it’s a flight simulator, but it has the option to play easy arcade!
Helicopter flight looks like an arcade. Same awful elevated roads and ground traffic.

I think they should allow people to go directly to the missions if they have a certain amount of flight hours.
Thanks for sharing your impressions with us. I hope they fixed the flying cars thing. LOL
So they are providing some role playing experience but how is the performance? Is it better optimized than 2020?
I wasn't able to test VR, but they said it should be.
The pilot shortage wouldn't be such a big deal if the FAA removed the 1500 hour rule, a rule, mind you, that is backed by zero scientific evidence.
Not to mention the FAA's archaic medical program. "Oh you were sad once? Well lets just keep you on the ground then!"

As long as its saved on their backend, so you don't reset progress with a reinstall, I'm fine with it being locked behind tests.

I played the original on the Apple II+ back before it was purchased by Microsoft. Wire frame scenery and zero textures.
I don't know where engine fires are or other break down animations but also I want new camera features like a fly by camera I don't know what else
Based on your video, I see FM is still an issue. If only they approached DCS (A king of FM, better "feel" than mil-sims) to assist. Heck, even their old Su-25 FM from decade ago is still better than a Cessna in MSFS.
An absolutely fantastic pre-look at FS2024, thank you for your hard work making this video. I am very excited about this new sim, I just pre-ordered.
I’m not interested unless they improve the flightmodel and they get rid of stutters, especially on final.
Looks like a no-no at this time.
Who cares what you think just p off
I hope they listened to you.
Hopefully I'll get to do a full review before it's released.
good to hear that Bought Modules will carry over. as ive just gotten the B2 by TMS' .. would be depressing if the F22 and B2 would not usable on 24
Finally a checkride I can fail without real world consequences
It's not all about you someone like me looking to really get in to flight simulator I love that they did that so I need to learn lol
It’s not all about me. I’m not the only one that thinks this way and the two aren’t mutually exclusive. You can have missions and a career.
Hardware? They tell you min requirements? Will it run smooth on a average system?
Happy for a career mode with progression. Then the missions are a reward.
In many games, you have to level up for you to get to certain content. I love the concept for MSFS24.
An excellent review. I'll keep my patience with DCS World. Maybe one day since 2011. ED will get it right.
Great video. Something of a long shot but I don't suppose there was any mention of custom POI's. It would be nice to have an easily accessible way to do this without jumping through dev mode hoops and so on. It's not something I'd need for launch but it would be good to know it's on the way.
nice to see snow missed that !
I think I will wait awhile, untill they get some more details sorted out.
If the Flight Sim is any better than reality.....Can't wait for the Operating System Simulator.
You can get VMs of lots of OSs which for all intents & purposes *ARE* the OSs, so not much of a need for a simulation.
As I said elsewhere, I already did my Private and Instrument checkrides. I don't want to do them again. 11:12
As a race simmer, I’m looking forward to this. Hopefully my system can handle it. Have no issues with introduction missions, as I have no idea
