Troy was also super consistent and sounded good all show, Brent is pretty much the only wild card vocally now and even he sounded solid. They all improved a lot once they started taking the clean singing seriously. Honestly think they sound the best they ever had live currently.
I'll agree with you on brents vocals, they can be off at times. I think he's gotten better though. I seen them live back in 2006/7 and his vocals were great, but after that I think they got worse but are picking up now. But to be honest, I've seen them three times now and they are just amazing. It's a different feeling being in a Mastodon crowd. Never once live did I think anything was 'off'

it really does confuse me when people complain about brents vocals. they are very unique and not to everyones tastes granted but don't you hear that on the recordings? I understand he doesn't quite sound the same live, I personally think he sounds fucking cool on this particular performance, but its not really all that different to the studio recording...
To those criticising the vocals, no one has ever complained about Mick Jagger, Bob Dylan, Lou Reed, Mark Knopfler or Tom Waits sounding 'awful' - it is rock 'n' roll (more accurately metal), it is not supposed to sound 'pleasant' or 'beautiful'.

I agree, but honestly, when I saw them last year, it actually just made for a more genuine show. Mistaking his voice for some drunk guy in the audience was actually really endearing for some reason.
I hardly agree. I love his unique vocals. First, I don't think he can play guitar and sing terrific at the same time. It's a difficult talent for some..myself included when I was in a band. Also, I really think he blew out his vocals years ago from that throat infection around during that festival in 2007 and it's never been the same and if you check out him in earlier material he was greatness in his harsh vox. I think the dude is so metal. I personally like his clean vocals better then his screams. If he had worked on more shouting then screams would work better but his clean vocals are very twangy and southern and rules. I love bands that have multiple vocalists. I do wish Bill was singing again more on newer albums. His deep shouts were incredible back in the day.
