I don't get the criticism they cop for live performances. Saw them live at Soundwave two weeks ago and they were unholy. They were by far, as far as the band performance was concerned, the band of the night. That has nothing to do with the other bands I saw being bad or whatever, Mastodon were just spot on. The vocals especially were amazing, even Brent sang like a god. Even now, thinking about their performance still amazes me as to how fucking good they were. And Troy just nailed "Crack The Skye".
I love listening to their songs and can't wait for the next album, but try as I might, I dunno, I do find them a bit boring live. I can't put my finger on why
Finally. Some real men making some manly rock music in this age. AND WITH INFINITE TALENT I MIGHT ADD. Just found these guys but they are truly talented.
Sung Yul Taylor Every album sounds different than the next and their last two albums whilst they sound more poppy are still excellent. Their first 4 albums are masterpieces.
I've been a fan of Mastodon a long time... but the live performance of this guys is waaay better now! So much more technique and confidence. Can't wait for the new album.
Honestly think Brann is the most talented but they’re are so so incredibly talented, Brent/bill one of the best guitarist duos in the business today and Troy just a kick ass bassist and dope singer. All time great songwriting band as well. For me tho Brann slightly gets the edge because he’s insane on the drums and their best singer and a great lyricist/songwriter while also doing iconic stuff on guitar for them like blood and thunder and iron tusk which he wrote on guitar, or at least the main legendary riffs. As a whole tho there are very very few bands as talented as them, truly a special band with 4 incredible musicians
I was at the Ace of Spades concert as well. you're right, no bells and whistles with them, you just get a couple of hours of Mastodon playing their kick-ass music with just the right amount of energy. God they're awesome :D
I have seen them twice on this tour. Once in Sacramento at Ace of Spades and another time in Reno Nevada at Grand Sierra Resort Casino. They never disappoint. I appreciate the passion that goes into their live set and their is one thing that sets them apart ... they just simply play the music. It's a little thing that goes a long way for me as a fan of the band.
YES. At Soundwave (Aus festival) we were waiting for them to come on. Trivium was playing their set on the stage next to where they were about to come on and fuck me, if Trivium couldn't have fit 3 more songs in in the amount of time it took them to try and pump the crowd up and talk shit I'll be damned. Mastodon comes on, quickly acknowledges the crowd and then plays the entire hour set, no breaks, simply amazing live music that required no words. That's the right way to appreciate your fans.
The Hunter and the live album came out when I was graduating high school. I'm seeing Mastodon with EODM in April. It'll be my third time seeing the band.
What an incredible live recording and performance! I like this live rendition more than the studio recording! The cymbals are buried a bit in the mix but those vox during the chorus with that wall of sound guitar buzz... man...
