    Hi john .... juat wondering what brand / type of fluro carbon you are running for fc straight through ? Is FC straight through rather than braid with fc leader ok for land based ? Or will braid get you more distance.

      Cheers Brett. It’s the 2.1 gram model. And the Fluoro has just been spooled with enough for a cast and a half. Maybe 50m just to get the lure out there. I run cheap backing to fill the spool underneath if needbe

    Took my new girlfriend out for a flathead session gave her one of my Diawa double clutches first throw 88cm flathead then 5 mins later got an 80cm flathead she’s not coming again 😝

      people look at me funny when I tell them of sessions catching multiple flathead over 80cm but it does happen...quiet often...my best session I got 4 over 80cm 2 of which were over 90!!...she has the mojo thats a brilliant start to the career!

      @@matthewmorshead2594 awesome... they always surprise and often disappoint I thought I had em figured out so many times but some days they will make you work hard this season for me I've spooked way more big fish than hooked... been a cursed season for me starting to wonder if I've caught em before!!... 5 fish in 2 hours is good fishing...some sessions are just so easy they leave you thinking your the gun then you go back and get nothing for weeks!!...I fish 5 different systems each with a heap of spots that produce crocs I can't stand still lol moving around covering massive flats and edges works for me but you gotta manage the spots ....I've never tried night sessions I hear they bite well in the dark... don't do the boat on the flats anymore just can't cover the ground needed to catch em always spooking fish or not covering every last inch...wading is definatly the best way to consistently catch big flathead in the shallows...where are you based?....

    I have a sienna combo and i don't want to buy a new rod I live near a canal and go fishing there all the time. I dont catch much stuff though. Hopefully with these tactics I can land some fish

    I have lost confidence in the MMD soft prawn, perhaps its because of my choice of 6lb leader to braid. I have tried a number of brands for straight fluorocarbon and most coil up or get bad wind knots. What brand do you recommend?

      Mate what color and weight prawns were you throwing. I remember your comments from my earlier vids and found them really interesting because we’ve had such different experiences and it surprised the hell outa me, esp. as I know you watch so many of my videos to go with it. What region down south are you fishing? Are you around canals and boats with Bream?

      I use Vanish by Berkley. It can do exactly what you’ve mentioned. I tend to just replace my 4 or 20lb for Jack when it gets bad. I only spool 50m onto some backing so I’ve got a few goes at it for each spool.

      @@mylurebox I am around the Shoalhaven near Nowra. Very few boats or canals. All natural structure. Rocky bars, flats and timber in creeks. I have vanish 4lb, I will try just 50 to 100 metres and see. I have the medium and heavy MMD prawns. I have the holt production prawn and again no interest in that. You would hate fishing down here its not like in canals where you have lots of small bream, most sessions for me its one or 2 fish good quality or nothing.

      @@mylurebox Success this morning using 4lb Berkeley Vanish managing a 40cm flathead. Still no sign of bream. I made a rookie error by not having my S Factor with me. I tried your technique very slow to dead still then a small twitch or lift.

      Hi mate.. Thanks John.. Great vid and very helpful.. I have the 7'6 model and agree it's a great rod for the really light stuff but I can't get a really long cast with smaller lures.. Maybe putting in too much grunt and not letting the rod do the work.. Is it more the flick of the rod? Might be more practice.. I was using 4lb straight through too. Steve

      Steve yeh really need to let the rod do more work for you and sometimes can come to many factors for loosing distance finger control too early too late release you'll feel when that top section loads up and and wants to send it. It will take some practice to get it where you want but the rod will do it all.

      Smooth is the key with light plastics hardbodies not a prob should cast easy but really need to adjust cast for placcy hope that helps Steve.

      If have a look at how smooth John casts towards end of video when he casts distance towards the shadow area that's what I mean by it all smooth is key. Try adjusting length from tip to lure and timing and see how you go without trying to blast it.

    invest in a wet rag bud when you handle fish all day a wet rag is good for both the fish and you....also barbed hooks still catch fish.

      @@mylurebox yeah mate when you bang em all day these two things are important...barbing hooks really helps the fish IMO and maybe you if you get stung lol...have been barbing for a long time and don't see it as an issue...the wet rag just makes everything easier when de hooking and holding.

      Hi Graham. Thanks for letting me know. I let TH-cam auto set the ad breaks on this video. I’m gonna go back and manually adjust it and get rid of them through the middle.
