    Good advice mate, dropping that rod back is the way to go and a quick couple of jerks after the drop back has worked a treat for me. Was waiting for you to get a double hook up you would be like those olympic rowers lol. good tips to on landing them so many people skull drag em to the boat and the drag set light also helps if you get snagged, waiting for your next vid, ps got my PB flathead sunday 78cm on plastic doin what you said about mixing up the retrieve thanks

    Not sure if you'll see this comment given that the video is from three years back but I was interested in your remark that one metre trolling depth is the go. Wouldn't the lure be bottoming too much at that depth. Thanks John.

    • @mylurebox
      @mylurebox  ปีที่แล้ว

      Gday Warren ;) thanks for your comment. I usually troll around that 1-1.5m. I run the lure about 10-20m out back and use a high rod tip to pull her up Off the bottom if she’s too shallow. There’s plenty of fish in those shallow areas esp. if you’re running beside the weed. :) Cheers

    Another good video John. Ive tried the dropping rod with some added rips every now and then, I also suspect it gets results. I've been playing around with trolling vibes like the zx40 and it seems to work, they seem to be less inclined to fouling with weed too.

    Hi John, nice video, ive tried trolling in the passage but the weed drove me insane, and how good are the Trion rods, I have a couple of 2-4 kg and a 1-3 kg, best value rod out there ad the top grip is in just the right spot as I run the braid through my first 2 fingers holding the rod as I wind, 2 reasons for this, 1 I feel every touch and 2 it eliminates wind knots, ie all the line is laid on the reel under slight tension, I started doing this when I worked out how hard braid is to untangle..

    • @mylurebox
      @mylurebox  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Mate that’s an interesting little point I’ll have to give it a crack with my lighter set ups. Cheers. Love the trions !

    Hi mate if your trolling in the shallows do you still use them deep diver?? Won’t that just stir up the bottom or is that what you are trying to do I no faltties are a bottom fish I just thought it might put them off something digging the bottom up

    • @mylurebox
      @mylurebox  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It definitely varies depending on the Lure I’m running but walking or slower than is a fair way to start. I reckon 1m of water is the go too

    i found catch rate for flathead greatly improoved when i stopped use fluro leader and used mono or copo. same principal as you you said with stiff rods without give .. fluro has no stretch. i find it terrible for flathead. making the change worked wonders for me but to each there own. nice tips tho mate the pause on the troll is a good idea

    • @mylurebox
      @mylurebox  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s interesting to hear. I’ve heard varying things re. The stretch comparison and also how visible ‘invisible’ Fluro actually is. I know it’s often fairly easy to pick up with my Lure swimming videos if there plenty of light so I’m still unsure myself. Thanks for giving me something further to consider though. Might have to take a look at a few mono options

    • @danjohns5961
      @danjohns5961 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mylurebox I use Copolymer is the go mate. Unitika is one example. Its Mono with a extrusion of Fluro on the outer skin basically. Get the invisibility of the fluro but the stretch of the mono.
