Trent thanks for sharing your thoughts on my videos. I’m really glad to hear it helps in some small way mate. Keep at it Trent ;) hope you get the chance to get out on the water during the tougher times mate.
Love seeing the kids and a super proud Dad hitting the banks and scoring well on the Jacks. I had a grin from ear listening to William's Dad talking about Williams Jack. Reminds of the times when my kids were still young and not adults...brilliant cherished times.
Brilliant video , I moved into Raby Bay 6 months ago and learning to fish pontoons , having so much fun and these videos are crucial to my development as a fisho , thanks mate
I love that block of land there in the first half of vid, we'd stop there for hours with a big burley trail during winter bream sessions at night, and sunrise in summer it was Trev heaven! I'd say we had it good in the 90s but i experienced the trevs again near there a few years back and they were way bigger! Great video man, you hit all the nostalgia buttons for me
As always, good to see an honest video and show that you cannot catch fish on every single cast. It gives me hope, as I’ve only bagged two jacks so far this season after about 4 trips chasing them. The lack of rain has made fishing for everything tough recently, but then the rain came and made it even harder. Like you, I cannot wait for the fresh to clear, as I reckon it will be game on!
Loving the video and content. I have always been a bait fisherman who occasionally tried lures mainly because there wasn't much info or video out about how to fish lures. I appreciate the detail you go into with each video and has even got me thinking to do more lure fishing and less bait. Keep up the good work
Hi Paul, I have fished only lures for quite a few years now. It can be frustrating at times, but eventually it starts to really click. Some days I can outfish guys using bait in my local river and that feels good :-) Pete.
The tips and tricks are priceless mate and the little hints regarding eddies etc around bridges and corners are spot on. Keep the vids coming John great stuff. Maybe a trip up the sunny coast and fish the south and north end of the pumicestone passage and pass on your thoughts etc on the fishing. Some big flatties up the north end on those mud/weed banks
Hi John, another great video, your tradecraft is so inspiring. I'm not chasing Jacks, but you really do give some great info on where fish would be and why. The end of the video when the guy had his kids there was brilliant. Keep up the great work and thanks. Pete.
Awesome mate, I’ve been hitting Noosa and up around tin can and kauri creek a fair bit last few weeks. Getting a few thanks to the info yourself and others are sharing.
Top shelf old mate thanks for some cracking tips once again been real hard finding red dogs the last couple of weeks been smacking my local bridges real hard not a touch really hanging for that mind blowing hit cheers once again 🎣🤙
I really need to invest in a trolling motor, i find it hard to get a good drift anf usually spend half my time running back to the motor so i don't hit a million dollar boat lol
Another great segment john👍i pretty much dedicate all my fishing time to chasing jacks,I can say it does get frustrating at times, but never ever booring that anticipation is electric👍I still learn something different out of each segment you put up👍only one question something I havnt considered or tried I see the American bass fisherman doin is flurocarbon on the baitcasters.i see u like to use it straight thru on the spinning outfits, have u giving it a crack on the curado,I understand it wouldn't cast as good as braid but sometimes it's not about the distance just the accuracy and the abrasion resistance.love to know your thoughts on that 👍
Mate so funny this is your question cause I’ve literally respooled one this week with straight through fluro. Hahaha. I’ll be giving it a go with the swimbaits around pontoons ;) if it’s a goer, you’ll see the results soon. Thanks
@@mylurebox awesome I look forward to the action unfolding 👍I think that's where a definitely a heavier bc rod will come into play thumb on that spool and hang on ahahahaha the thought of no leader popping sounds like a epic battle 😀👍
Have to admit you’ve become my motivation to keep chasing jacks John appreciate everything, I’ve got a quick question about bait scents though like pro cure and stuff. Have you ever used it and what do you think? Cheers
Cheers Cam. Keep at it this month coming mate. It’s a great time of year esp. after this rain. I only really bother with the scents if I’ve got fuel and sun cream all over my hands. That said, I reckon it can help esp. with slow moving baits.
i might have missed you giving the name, but what was that big glide bait? I assume it has an inherent weight? It didn't appear to have a joint like some of the ones you've rolled out for big flatties? Cheers for another top vid.
You were almost directly outside my house..I caught a 65 cm Jack about 100 mtrs from where you were on a frozen prawn and a $30 Bcf rod .... god knows how I landed it ..
Great video thanks for all the tips that you so kindly share I know alot of fishos male and female don't like to give up their successful and handy tips/advice in catching certain species PS is this on the Goldy? It looks very familiar
I poke a hole into the plastic with a hook, stretch it open and then slide the eye of the double through the hole and over the jig hook. Hope you can kinda follow that...
What’s the best way to tune the bait caster reel for skip Casting. I can get it to skip and I’ve got the brake wound up just keep getting over spools not every time most but.
Hi Shaun. I’ll have to do a video on this topic. Thanks for the reminder. I basically start with the brakes up and reduce em as I get my feel for the reel. My curados have one brake on from the 4 or 6.
Cheers mate I’ll check them out. I’m running a 13 z3 reel and got it on 6 and still playing around it’s. All practice at the end of the day. And picking the right plastic to use
nice work mate. hey question for ya, you seem to manage well but do you find just having the remote can be a bit tricky rather than foot pedal for the electric? ta
I’m so used to it now I rarely even think of what I’m doing with it. That said, I’m pretty sure the boys running foot pedals are the same... I’ve got both, just prefer the remote outa habit I suppose.
Hi John, Really enjoy your vids and tips. Just was curious to know when you are using fluorocarbon right through to chase Jacks what brand and breaking strain would you recommend? Also do you mean you spool the whole reel up with fluorocarbon as I would imagine it would be quite expensive. Look forward to your reply if you get a chance. Cheers Steve
Gday Steven ;) stoked to hear you’re enjoying the videos mate. I run 20lb vanish which I buy a spool for $30 I think it has about 250m or 125m ... and that does 2 reels for me :) it’s not the toughest fluro but you want something you can cast so it’s a good blend between those 2 things IMO
I wanna use my baitcasters more but I have run out of lures to use. Do you have any recommendations of lures I could use that don't cost a whole lot. Thanks love the vids
Great advice once again John especially about the leader length. So from the comments the Jacks are getting hard to find, where do think they're hiding, have they moved out to mouth of the systems or are they down deep sitting on bottom structure. Water temps. must be playing a big part as well at the moment, I know my pool is like a warm bath. Listen to your podcast on Doc Lures once again the other night, great stuff.
I like the KISS approach so easy to get lost in the 'what lure' game you could use one lure to fish all those locations and the only advice needed is 'get it in tight'...their ambush feeders they smack any lure fished in the strike zone the trevs are the same they see it they eat it.....where are those stonking big jacks cameras a jinx!?
Mate it’s been tough going of late. It doesn’t slow my fishing down at all, just gets me trying different things and thinking more about how to get those bites. What would your go -to lure be ? Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts again as always mate.
@@mylurebox must be other species to target in there like bream or trevs or jew?...I like gulp turtle back worms around 4' they catch everything in the ocean!...7' barra worms by atomic are awesome to....anything not to get the big doughnut!!!

How cool is it seeing stuff like that. What a champion Dad. His son was like ‘ give me my rod back dad, I just wanna keep casting’
mylurebox HA! That’s awesome. Sounds like a life long angler in the making there.
Thanks for uploading so often John. I certainly appreciate all of the extra effort that you put in 👍
Cheers Ben. I’ve been loving the routine of having it all ticking along... even if it has been a tough run prior to the rain.

Can you use side scan on the sounder to see if there are jacks at a bridge?
Yep :) for sure. Often it’s harder cause they’re quick to hide as the boat pushes along but they’ll be there and I’ve seen em at times… Barra too ;)
How deep below the pontoon would the plastic be when youre burning it back?

Mate I'm really curious to know what that rod your using is? Been looking for a solid jack rod and can't find anything like it.
So with Jacks and soft plastics, they like a fast straight retrieve? So no pausing and hopping like flathead fishing? Cheers, awesome vid.
