The fan only runs when the props aren't spinning. When the props are spinning, they act as cooling fans. On the mini 2, you don't have a fan. So if you turn on the mini 2 and don't run the props, you will get an overheating warning after a while.

They need to make a mini with better camera. Size is a HUGE issue for those of us who do nature photography and have to hike. We can't lug around a big drone. Smallest = best.
Jason, thank you very much for this comparison. I was torn between the Mini 2 and the Air 2, and stumbled across this awesome review. I'm looking for a drone for basically fun stuff. I live in an area thought with a lot of mature, large trees. I was nervous that the Mini 2 doesn't have the sensors as the Air 2. Can you provide any additional thoughts, pointers, or comments on this? You sold me on the Mini 2 - I just hope I'm making the right decision, because I don't want to crash it! :)
Imo Air 2S is too overrated as a drone! Camera sensor itself is great, but optics are weak. All pictures taken by this drone has soft edges and corners, and only the center of the frame has acceptable quality. Plus you have to deal with strong vignetting on raw images. Flight time is not that impressive too, on paper we have 3 minutes less than Mavic Air 2,but in real world Air 2S does 19-20 min, Air 2 does 25-26 min of flight time.
To be honest the mavic mini 2 beats all drone the mavic air OK the mavic pro dont like the camera gets messed up eaaly phantom drone s to big take time to set up the mino folds small and fits in any bag winner by far
Don't buy into the hype. These units are terrible. They are buggy, latency issues with the video feed, signal related issues are 2000 ft plain of sight no objects nor other radios, unable to charge your phone (slow charging only), the tracking software loses sight in plain sight, files get corrupted 😉, they aren't shielded from EMF/EMI, the software app is buggy, you will get jitter in transmission and on the recording file, these are cheap Chinese toys not drones. Sorry DJI, you lost the game and feel. Let someone else start the trend.
Bought the Mini 2 a couple o weeks ago, upgraded from Phantom 3 Adv. I am impressed ,i actually fligh my drone now, since it is so compact! video and photo quality amazing, for what i am using it for it is perfect!
I have a mini 2 for all the reasons that you listed. cost was not a factor but the weight regulation was the biggest thing. one of the main places i fly has a 60m height restriction on the mini 2 and no drones over 250g can fly there. we were denied permission to fly a phantom. i did alot of research and came to the conclusion that the mini 2 had no real competition. the best in all categories for its weight class.
@@fitpro25 I do... there are low flying planes that fly directly overhead for one thing, also if i want to post videos that i create i wouldnt want to advertise my rule breaking. Not to mention the fact that I am the facility manager of the property that i film. Sure i could do want i want.. but if anything where to happen or one reprimand from authorities my flying days would be over. Its not worth it.

That wasn't a completely serious comment but as for low-flying planes, DJI has a manned aircraft warning system showing the planes exact location and direction so I do wish there were exceptions to the 400 ft ceiling law. There are incredible above-clouds shots to be had, especially time lapses that can be done in complete safety with some common sense. But again, your situation is different than mine and I completely understand your position.
I started with a Mini 2 not all that long ago, and have enjoyed it very much as my learning platform. However, I immediately wanted a better camera, with support for LOG, “cine-like” and/or other profiles. The Mini 2 does not offer that (yet?) , so when the Air 2s came out I jumped on it immediately - like on the day it was formally released to the public. I have not regretted it for a moment. The Mini 2 is a very fine drone but the Air 2s definitely shows it up in a number of ways (as it *should*, for the price!). I’d like to add that the Air 2s “Fly More” combo’s bag is surprisingly only incrementally larger than the Mini 2’s bag, though it is definitely heavier. Do I notice? Not really. I readily throw the Air 2s over my shoulder on walks, just like with the Mini 2. Also, the Air2s “Fly More” combo *includes* ND filters, which is awesome! As said, and as demonstrated in the video it comes down to your needs (and desires), really.

@@dcjelly The Air 2s, IMO is the best quality video/photo platform at a reasonable price. It handles contrasty situations better than the Mini 2, and lower-light as well, when set up properly. One thing to note, you also need to consider your data rates at record and export time or you will get footage that might look “grainy” to you. That is really just dithering of the video to account for motion with insufficient data. Always shoot in the highest data rate the camera offers (yes it takes more space) and then export your video at a high data rate as well. It makes a huge difference. It’s kind of like the idea of shooting “raw” photos - capture as much as possible and defer quality reductions until the very end. Hope that makes sense. All that said, I wish I’d been able to fly mine more over the summer. My iPhone’s screen goes way dark when shooting outdoors in the heat. Not directly the fault of the Air 2s, but what a bummer.
@@dcjelly I would not recommend that approach. You’d most likely be disappointed in any given frame of a video (depending on your needs) vs an actual still photo. If you’re only shooting stills, then definitely capture in RAW (maybe RAW+JPG) , turn on the histogram, and use that to expose in manual and avoid blown out highlights. In general, people seem to agree that the lower-end Mavic cameras handle underexposure a bit better than over. I also think people can live with crushed blacks a bit easier than blown-out highlights. Just my opinion.
due to legal issues in the EU, flying a drone in certain areas like cities, anything that includes humans has become impossible.in the legal area. so the mini 2 is legally the only options...
I use a ND8 polarizer on my mini 2...i really like how it gets detail from the sun. That more than anything made my footage improve. That and a slight colour grade.
Great stuff. I own the Mini 2 and Air2s and since I am from the US I can just register the heavier drone for 5 dollars US and as long as I am just flying for hobby reasons and not using it to make money I can fly pretty much wherever I am allowed.(following all FAA rules) I am working toward the FAA part 107 certification which will open up the ability to make money with my drones legally. I have the Mini and first gen Air as well and I still fly and use both. The Mini's camera even at 2.7k still looks better that some of my other drone brands I have shooting at 4k. One thing worth mentioning is that on the Air2s if you are shooting in 5.4k you will want to make sure your computer has the horsepower to process it. 5.4k will only use h.265 encoding and if your computer is a little older it will have issues playing the raw video so that it can be edited. I had to re-encode my 5.4k stuff down to h.264 - 4k 30 for it to even be playable on my system. The same goes for the 4k 60 setting. Encoding is set to h.265 and is not changeable on the drone camera settings. Yea it bit me the butt.
there is only one thing the mini 2 is better than the air 2s its the price! i dont care about the weight of the mavic mini cause the lisence is cheAP and if you have on lisence it covers all your drones

The size allows me to carry it in my pocket and even in areas with crowds and where the drone is close to people, the small size is a bit less intrusive and loud. The cost is great just because you get a decently quick, decent quality, camera that is easy to fly.
After two years of using the mini 2, I switched to the air 2. All I can say is that the mini 2 is a toy for the air 2. The climbing speed, the speed and power of the drone itself, the camera has much more detail and depth. They are talking about the air2, not the air2s. ..I can imagine how the air 2 s works
Yall worried about active track lol that stuff is boring I bought a drone to fly not follow me around. They extra mile and a half and stronger motors is what gets me on the air 2.
On top of that: it has more reliable connection, although the mini2 also has occusync, but just not so dependable in congested areas, and the wind resistance is way better as well.
I have a Mavic 2 Pro and a Mini 2. The fact that I can legally fly the Mini 2 in the UK without needing to keep 50 metres from uninvolved people is a major advantage to me.
I'm looking into the mini 2 but I am interested in photography, not video. What's the biggest print you can make in this resolution (4k of the mini) before start seeing pixels? Or rather: Can you print a good A3? How about an A2?
I can definitely see your point, my son has the mini 2S and I have the Air 2S. My preference for the air2 S was not only because I had a Mavic air previously, but the dynamics of its features and the exquisite 5.4K, 1” camera. I do have a lot of love for the mini 2 yes, for it’s size it packs a punch too, both are amazing ( and also the FPV😁😉)
People need to be guided to the real advantages of each drone. The Mini 2 has two advantages: Size and weight. Weight is important in countries where the rules change drastically when you go over 250 grams. In the US the Air2s has a HUGE advantage: STABILITY. It is almost as powerful as the Mavic 2 (or now 3). But it also has a significantly better picture quality and other features lacking in the Mini 2. I personally have a Mini 2 and a Mavic 2 pro (I started with a Mini 1). If I were starting today, I'd own one drone and it would be the Air2s... no question about it.
Mini 2 and other DJI beginner drones do not make a f ing sense because of no safety features and program shots! But TH-camrs and reviewers still give them top ratings and recommend to beginners! Don't beginners need all those lacking features?! Mindblogging hurts
In your footage the biggest improvement I notice is dynamic range even on my iPhone screen. As a keen photographer, there has been many times I’ve craved more dynamic range in my cameras but shooting full frame these days it’s less of an issue. With drone photography you have less control over the environment, often angles and the light you’re dealing with is challenging so good dynamic range is important if you’re serious about your drone photography. Having said that I’m sticking with my humble Mavic Mini 1 for now a portability and discrete for hiking and Bikepacking is important to me. BTW, good to see some Brisbane footage. I’m a home town boy
I seen a lot of hate towards Air 2S other you-tubers i seen call themselves reviewers when in reality they are influencers a whole different deal... ranting about how bad is the 2S compared to Mini 2. i own Mini 2 Air2S and Mavic pro 2 i love em all as each is a drone of its own. They all have their strengths and weaknesses
I’m super happy with my Mini 2…. I reckon, value for money you can’t beat it. Mini 2 is so adaptable… combined with the combo I would never buy anything 250grams or over… just no need for it
I’m still using my old but yet still reliable Mavic Pro. I feel like it’s time to upgrade to the Air 2S. I also have the Mavic Mini 2 which I bought in 2020. I was quite surprised how good it is being that It looked like a felt like a toy 😂

One more advantage of Mini over Air2 is Return to Home. In Mini while returning you can adjust height, rotation, etc and it will maintain it's return path. Somebody came up with a proper name for it - "second pilot simulation". You can get really unique and nice looking video with this that you wouldn be able to get otherwise unless you are really (and I mean reeeeeaaaally) skilled in piloting a drone. I wish they would add this to MA2 but I think that won't happen...
I’m a proud owner of a Mini 2 and this drone is a BEAST! It’s silent and so small people below don’t even notice. If I was to upgrade I’ll wait for the Mavic 3
When they will relise sdk than you will have it on mini 2 just like there's is one on original mini. Only con is that it's more dangerous, cuz of lack of sensors.
Great comparison. I have the Mini 2. I love it and It suits my use. I can put the whole kit in the saddle bag on my motorbike or backpack and take it wherever I go. It's small size means If I'm in bush land or rugged terain I can easily hand launch and catch it without needing a landing site. The performance is amazing for such a small drone. I live in a windy area on the top of a hill and it has no trouble handling it. I get the occasional high wind warning but It has been great so far. No complaints on speed or range and I've regularly seen 50KMH plus on the display in sport mode. The Mini 2 4K footage looks great and as good or better than the GoPro I have on the bike or the phone camera I usually use. I have looked at and considered the Air2S but it's $2100 here in Australia for the fly more package which is more than double the $900 Mini 2 package. The extra performance would be nice but I just dont think I'd get as much use out of it as I do with the mini 2.
I just bought a mini 2 flymore combo a week ago and got a good deal on it....Well now I'm thinking about buying the Air 2s flymore combo because someone is selling one and there asking $500 and selling the mini 2.....I love the mini 2 tho....it's my first real drone

I have air2 and after testing air2s I do not see the need to replace it, air2s was supposed to be a pro2 killer and it is not. 1 inch and 10 bit I thought there would be a huge difference and it is minimal or sometimes none. I have both of those drones and love them both I am not a professional photographer I only do it as a hobby. I was on your last live chat and was trying to ask you a question. I got low sugar and had to go and get some I’m diabetic. I was trying to ask do you know much about the capabilities of the tracking feature I haven’t really pushed it too far yet and I am just trying to find out some things about it before I go running off to Mount panorama in Bathurst I think you would know where I’m talking about because you sound like you’re Australian. I want to film my classic Merc going round the circuit now whether I fly it manually round or use the active track is my question. I understand that it uses the camera to track. If I use an ND filter would that make the drone lose my car and stop tracking me? When I go there I will have a mate with me so I’m not sure whether to sit in the passenger seat and fly manually or do you trust the active track. Do you have an opinion on this for experience. How were you following the JetSki manually or active track? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Biggest difference besides price is the air 2 goes a mile further the mini 2 has a better camera believe it or not. The air 2 camera is a bummer for the price. Just get the mini 2 I have both the air 2 is just good for going that extra mile that 1 single extra mile
When u were having trouble keeping up to the seadoo with the mini2 I've heard turning it into sport mode engages better when ur off the ground before flipping it outv normal
The photo compare (last in series) where you see a sailing boat in foreground and dark clouds in background -- the two photos where not taken with same luminosity. Not a fair test.
I just can't decide. I've had a dji spark for a number of years which gets the job done for the type of videos I'm making editing along side a hero 8, but the signal and batteries is what makes me what to upgrade. Filming in 2.7k looks to be the better option for me so 4k and above is not really a selling point. Active tracking seems to be the main reason to choose the air2s but again I'm getting by fine without it and the sensors as well. 1st world problems 😂

drones under 250grams can be flown in many more different places. completely different category than drones over 250g. recommend the mini 2 if you are wanting to travel or capture so nice footage
Dont Upgrade to Air 2S! Stay in Mavic Mini 2 or Mavic Air 2. Air2S is over price, A lot of limitation of features to maximized 1" larger sensor and 5.4k resolution. Less flight time than older Air 2. Much better to wait Mavic 3 To experience larger 1" sensor with 5.4k resolution for appropriate price. Useless with Have much range 12KM with less flight time than older model and 5.4k new drone adding new Mastershots only available in 1080p.
good vid...i have both...and more...and you are Exactly correct...it depends on the application to figure out which drone to use...I recommend owning both.
It's notable to mention that the Mini 2 is not compatible with the DJI Flight Simulator. The Mini 2 uses the same remote as the Air 2 which is compatible. It would be nice if the Mini 2 remote could be used on the simulator to fly other models. DJI dropped the ball on this, especially when they market the Mini 2 as a beginner drone.

This is quite important. If your drone is just sitting on the ground, make sure it’s not streaming video. It’ll get pretty hot, fast.

Get DJI care refresh for 2 year... They will replace up to 3 drones if you Crash. I did same

I love my mini2 but it's only with the air2s that I get to really enjoy flying at night and at sundown!

totally agree Mike. D-cinelike is such a good feature i miss having. Mini 2 can be a little too contrasty for some scenarios IMO

Yall worried about active track lol that stuff is boring I bought a drone to fly not follow me around. They extra mile and a half and stronger motors is what gets me on the air 2.

Agree! The Air2s is just the better drone! The mini2 is a good and competent drone but like you said, the air2s is just twice better!
On top of that: it has more reliable connection, although the mini2 also has occusync, but just not so dependable in congested areas, and the wind resistance is way better as well.

I have a Mavic 2 Pro and a Mini 2. The fact that I can legally fly the Mini 2 in the UK without needing to keep 50 metres from uninvolved people is a major advantage to me.
I'm looking into the mini 2 but I am interested in photography, not video. What's the biggest print you can make in this resolution (4k of the mini) before start seeing pixels? Or rather: Can you print a good A3? How about an A2?

I can definitely see your point, my son has the mini 2S and I have the Air 2S. My preference for the air2 S was not only because I had a Mavic air previously, but the dynamics of its features and the exquisite 5.4K, 1” camera.
I do have a lot of love for the mini 2 yes, for it’s size it packs a punch too, both are amazing

People need to be guided to the real advantages of each drone. The Mini 2 has two advantages: Size and weight. Weight is important in countries where the rules change drastically when you go over 250 grams. In the US the Air2s has a HUGE advantage: STABILITY. It is almost as powerful as the Mavic 2 (or now 3). But it also has a significantly better picture quality and other features lacking in the Mini 2. I personally have a Mini 2 and a Mavic 2 pro (I started with a Mini 1). If I were starting today, I'd own one drone and it would be the Air2s... no question about it.
Mini 2 and other DJI beginner drones do not make a f ing sense because of no safety features and program shots! But TH-camrs and reviewers still give them top ratings and recommend to beginners! Don't beginners need all those lacking features?! Mindblogging hurts
The ones with safety features are usually over 250g and cost a bazillion dollars more though
In your footage the biggest improvement I notice is dynamic range even on my iPhone screen. As a keen photographer, there has been many times I’ve craved more dynamic range in my cameras but shooting full frame these days it’s less of an issue. With drone photography you have less control over the environment, often angles and the light you’re dealing with is challenging so good dynamic range is important if you’re serious about your drone photography. Having said that I’m sticking with my humble Mavic Mini 1 for now a portability and discrete for hiking and Bikepacking is important to me.

I seen a lot of hate towards Air 2S other you-tubers i seen call themselves reviewers when in reality they are influencers a whole different deal... ranting about how bad is the 2S compared to Mini 2. i own Mini 2 Air2S and Mavic pro 2 i love em all as each is a drone of its own. They all have their strengths and weaknesses
I’m super happy with my Mini 2…. I reckon, value for money you can’t beat it. Mini 2 is so adaptable… combined with the combo I would never buy anything 250grams or over… just no need for it
I’m still using my old but yet still reliable Mavic Pro. I feel like it’s time to upgrade to the Air 2S. I also have the Mavic Mini 2 which I bought in 2020. I was quite surprised how good it is being that It looked like a felt like a toy 😂

I'm thinking about my first drone. And now it's between mini2 and air 2s. Which one will you recommend? The purpose it's mostly photos... is it quality OK on mini2? One more advantage of Mini over Air2 is Return to Home.
In Mini while returning you can adjust height, rotation, etc and it will maintain it's return path. Somebody came up with a proper name for it - "second pilot simulation".
You can get really unique and nice looking video with this that you wouldn be able to get otherwise unless you are really (and I mean reeeeeaaaally) skilled in piloting a drone.
I wish they would add this to MA2 but I think that won't happen...

I’m a proud owner of a Mini 2 and this drone is a BEAST! It’s silent and so small people below don’t even notice. If I was to upgrade I’ll wait for the Mavic 3

Active Track is what gave the Air 2S an edge over the Mini 2 in my opinion!
When they will relise sdk than you will have it on mini 2 just like there's is one on original mini. Only con is that it's more dangerous, cuz of lack of sensors.

Great comparison. I have the Mini 2. I love it and It suits my use. I can put the whole kit in the saddle bag on my motorbike or backpack and take it wherever I go. It's small size means If I'm in bush land or rugged terain I can easily hand launch and catch it without needing a landing site. The performance is amazing for such a small drone. I live in a windy area on the top of a hill and it has no trouble handling it. I get the occasional high wind warning but It has been great so far. No complaints on speed or range and I've regularly seen 50KMH plus on the display in sport mode. The Mini 2 4K footage looks great and as good or better than the GoPro I have on the bike or the phone camera I usually use. I have looked at and considered the Air2S but it's $2100 here in Australia for the fly more package which is more than double the $900 Mini 2 package. The extra performance would be nice but I just dont think I'd get as much use out of it as I do with the mini 2.

I just bought a mini 2 flymore combo a week ago and got a good deal on it....Well now I'm thinking about buying the Air 2s flymore combo because someone is selling one and there asking $500 and selling the mini 2.....I love the mini 2 tho....it's my first real drone

I have air2 and after testing air2s I do not see the need to replace it, air2s was supposed to be a pro2 killer and it is not. 1 inch and 10 bit I thought there would be a huge difference and it is minimal or sometimes none. You can make a mistake unlike the 2 pictures, I'm waiting for what they show in Pro3. only it will be big and heavy and expensive

I have both of those drones and love them both I am not a professional photographer I only do it as a hobby. I was on your last live chat and was trying to ask you a question. I got low sugar and had to go and get some I’m diabetic. I was trying to ask do you know much about the capabilities of the tracking feature I haven’t really pushed it too far yet and I am just trying to find out some things about it before I go running off to Mount panorama in Bathurst I think you would know where I’m talking about because you sound like you’re Australian. I want to film my classic Merc going round the circuit now whether I fly it manually round or use the active track is my question. I understand that it uses the camera to track. If I use an ND filter would that make the drone lose my car and stop tracking me? When I go there I will have a mate with me so I’m not sure whether to sit in the passenger seat and fly manually or do you trust the active track. Do you have an opinion on this for experience. How were you following the JetSki manually or active track? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Biggest difference besides price is the air 2 goes a mile further the mini 2 has a better camera believe it or not. The air 2 camera is a bummer for the price. Just get the mini 2 I have both the air 2 is just good for going that extra mile that 1 single extra mile

When u were having trouble keeping up to the seadoo with the mini2 I've heard turning it into sport mode engages better when ur off the ground before flipping it outv normal

What is this about where you can and can’t fly between the two in QLD.
I just can't decide. I've had a dji spark for a number of years which gets the job done for the type of videos I'm making editing along side a hero 8, but the signal and batteries is what makes me what to upgrade. Filming in 2.7k looks to be the better option for me so 4k and above is not really a selling point. Active tracking seems to be the main reason to choose the air2s but again I'm getting by fine without it and the sensors as well. 1st world problems 😂

Dont Upgrade to Air 2S! Stay in Mavic Mini 2 or Mavic Air 2. Air2S is over price, A lot of limitation of features to maximized 1" larger sensor and 5.4k resolution. Less flight time than older Air 2. Much better to wait Mavic 3 To experience larger 1" sensor with 5.4k resolution for appropriate price. Useless with Have much range 12KM with less flight time than older model and 5.4k new drone adding new Mastershots only available in 1080p.

Doesnt matter really in the end. But the follow function on the Air is lacking from the mini.
Honestly for the price tag the mini 2 is just fine. Especially if the footage is going on Facebook and Instagram.
AIr2S is legacy after DEC22 in uk so nit closer than 150m from people or congested as not Cr rated so waste of time
Have both, more opportunities to fly the Mini 1/2 - quieter and also costs less so not as big loss if you lose it.

You can’t go wrong with either one of these. If budget is an issue, grab the Mini 2, you won’t be disappointed.
It's notable to mention that the Mini 2 is not compatible with the DJI Flight Simulator. The Mini 2 uses the same remote as the Air 2 which is compatible. It would be nice if the Mini 2 remote could be used on the simulator to fly other models. DJI dropped the ball on this, especially when they market the Mini 2 as a beginner drone.
