From what I've heard, apparently Dragon Quest is so big in Japan Square made it a rule they only release new DQ games on weekends because too many people would call in sick to work to play new releases. That is how massive the series is.

Not true, every game companies are prioritizing on weekends because many people are free during the weekends so that they can focus on their hobbies.
@@YellowMageTrue and false, while it is true that Square never released a game on a weekday after DQ III due to how much it affected both schools and jobs, they never really got the government involved or anything
Every JP recognize immediatly show how much of an impact this game has to them still to this day
Man, these videos are so good for that shot of vicarious happiness. This is such a win for Dragon Quest and the longevity of the series, and I couldn't be happier for its fans, its creator, and for the legacy of Akira Toriyama who gave the series its iconic look (RIP).
The series deserves more recognition.

As someone who's only played a spin-off and one mainline entry (DQ11) and enjoyed every moment of it, this makes me very happy to experience where it all began and I am so freaking excited

I love MarcoMeatball gushing about the orchestrated music. That's a pretty big W too, as the previous composer, Koichi Sugiyama, was notoriously hard-headedly against orchestrating his pieces. He was also just a horrible person in general, very greedy and xenophobic, and a denier of Japanese war crimes. I'm sure the reason we could get this orchestrated rendition in the first place is because he finally kicked the bucket.

Honestly the fact that the first 3 dq games are getting hd2d remakes got me hyped
What a fucking baller reveal. Everyone got it so stuck in their heads that "actually the remake is gonna be a collection of all three games because of a line they used on promotional material", completely ignoring that 3 is a prequel and the narrative beginning of the trilogy. Then they linger on that art of the DQ3 hero for just a _little_ too long and everyone starts to realize something's up, and then we pulllllll on back and show that they were _kind of_ right, but in a different way than they expected!
The second the logo disappeared but the art lingered for a bit, I had twinges, and then the new music started up. I did think it was all gonna be one collection given the smaller size of I and II by comparison, but hey, being partly right was still awesome!

Dragon Quest is THE JRPG of Japanese culture and people.
When DQ2 was released lots of people waiting in the long line so badly to get that game and even the government are not allowed Enix to publish or encourage anyone to play DQ on normal day because they'll afraid people gonna skip work or school.
So usually DQ always an Christmas Presents in Japan.

If only Enix didn't fumble the bag and be slow on localisation back in the day and then just didn't give us 5 and 6 for some reason, it could have been potentially just as popular in the west too. I haven’t played the original trilogy since they rereleased it the first time on gameboy years ago when it was “Dragon Warrior” in the West. Seeing it look this good is such a treat. Very excited to replay the trilogy again with these amazing visuals.
I also screamed a lot during this announcement. I love Dragon Quest.

Yep! It will always be a big franchise in Japan, even with the newer generation of people and consoles to come!
This is the highlight of the direct for me. Not that the others weren't great. I'm happy to see Mario & Luigi brought back and Metroid Prime 4 has finally been confirmed after all these years. But this is the one I've been waiting for the most and with Dragon Quest 1-2 getting an HD Remake as well makes it even better. Also R.I.P. to both Toriyama & Sugiyama.
I hope between this and XI, and the upcoming XII we'll hopefully see more news on in the future, more people who haven't given Dragon Quest a try will do just that. The series is a long-standing classic and iconic in Japan for a reason, it is just quintessential JRPG fun in each entry. (Even if I was only able to start with the remake of 4 on the DS)
I hope in the future, I see some comments saying "I tried DQ III because of how much people seemed to love it, and now I love the series too!" 🙏
My only hope is that they don't go on the Final Fantasy route where the gameplay will change tremendously & make it an Action RPG/Hack n Slash and not make the game's story or characters as edgy & all Shakespearian talk.
In repeat viewings I managed to recognize that the murals were depicting Ramia and her priestesses.

In my eyes, it was a little rough when Octopath 1 came out, but it's been refined *so damn fast* that it looks drop-dead gorgeous with DQ3 here.

Man, Dragon Quest really is significantly bigger and more instantly recognizable in Japan than it is in the West, isn't it. All the more reason to hope that more Western gamers check out these remakes!

I bought Dragon Quest 1's Switch port as I had credits lying around, and I've been in love ever since.
Same thing happened when I got Earthbound for Wii U Virtual Console.
I love seeing people get excited for their favorite games, even though I haven't played them (yet)
3 is the beginning of the story. Even I knew it since the NES/Famicom version in the early 90s.
I'm so glad they're putting Ortega's fight with the dragon from the opening back in. That scene really grabbed me as a kid playing DQIII for the first time and I was sad to see the re-release on Switch didn't have it.
For the DQ reveal I'm definitely more interested in seeing the Japanese streamers. Similar to Hero reveal in smash. Japan loves DQ to bits

You got Miko’s and Pekora’s links swapped, but regardless I appreciate the effort that went in to syncing all of the Holo reactions with the footage since they didn’t or couldn’t show it on their streams. That couldn’t have been easy without audio or visual cues.

I know I've wanted to play 3 for ages, but I never committed to a run past the first couple dungeons.
I finally have a damn good reason to stick with it. God, Dragon Quest has to be one of the most consistently good franchises ever.

Maybe in the future, but I think it will be more of a remaster. Though given the fact that it heavily used the Nintendo DS' capabilities and dual screen, it doesn't seem likely, though it could still possibility happen (like the Etrian Odyssey trilogy got remastered and it had the same issue and situation and rocket slime).

I still can't believe Dragon Quest III HD 2D (and I&II as well) were announced at the direct. I jumped out of my seat and screamed with joy when I saw this announcement. They finally revealed it after a few years. Was about time square enix. LETS FUCKING GO! Now, if only Konami would announce some two things at the direct I have been waiting for a long time now (though one of them seems unlikely at this point and its not the metal gear and silent hill remakes, it would be impossible to run those switch), that would make it even better. But alas, I'll have to wait and see in the Tokyo Game Show (TGS), maybe Dragon Quest III HD 2D will even be showcased there to.
At least the remake of Snake Eater looks amazing. Wonder if there's any hope Konami will finally see the light and make games again.

I've been an fan since I first played Dragon Quest 8. So of course I want to play as many as possible and I want to experience been the old ones that I missed out.

On a related note, I'm a little peeved. Why? Because when the opportunity came for some non-rpg collections to get ported/remastered specifically MGS, GTA, and Batman: Arkham, they cut a bunch of corners and left us with low quality stuff. And, not just on the Switch either. I'm like, seriously? And don't even get me started on the recent Star wars ports...
But to be positive, I'm very glad people are getting a chance to play these and in such a great way
