For me, Gavin is the most PERFECT drummer I have ever seen! Talent, technique, skills, on-pocketness (😆), taste, musicality, sense of composition, just... EVERYTHING at maximum grade as possible! By far my favorite as well.
He makes the ridiculous seem so simple. I remember when I first heard porcupine tree on record was like yeah I can do that. Went to try and learn was like...ah. guess not.
Other than my 2 drummers of all time, Harrison and Thomas lang. Incredible talented. "Yes" and I've been playing over 57 years. I love sonar drums 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
There is only one Gavin Harrison. He hits with such power, precision, and finesse, and he exudes control, all the while being fully in the pocket and totally complimenting the song. The absolute drummer's drummer.
He is a masterful composer. Keeps the flow of the song so well and interesting with super pleasing to the ear phrasing and fills yet hardly does anything the same.
I am not a drummer, so I have no idea if technically is at the top echelon, but what I do care about is that he is one of the best musical drummer I have ever heard.
You have heard it right. The way Gavin uplifts the song while still remaining reserved is another level of talent. Gavin always and always plays for the sake of the song!
Virgil Donati is probably even more technical. But the difference is tiny, and I do prefer the musicality and approach to music that Gavin has. He grooves like hell, he is a metronome, he is my number one drummer, and I listen to a lot of music, style, and drummer, including Colaiuta, Weckl, Simon Philips, Steve Gadd, Coleman, Adam Pedder,.....and many other very good drummer but I always come back to listen to Gavin. He s a beast!
I've read similar comments about Neil Peart, so there's no question that Gavin Harrison is just as technically solid. Dude blows me away. I'm kinda surprised he didn't audition for Dream Theater after Portnoy left.... 😮😮
Exactly 😂😂 it's very funny but I mean I don't blame people. Gavin does everything for the sake of song whereas el estepario is a great drummer but mostly shows off.
Listening El estepario to his own drum parts with the band Saratoga and i'm not impressed too much, he is awesome in time ,flawless, mistakeless but he didn't have so much musicallity so if it will be possible to give it to Gavin the differences in creativity will shown clearly.El is a monster but his playings are obvious didn't surprise anyone. He plays exactly perfect but something missing and maybe that is the soul in combination with the technique!!
The cleanliness of Gavin's singles takes a level of practice, time, and discipline that few of us want to put in. Then, the clean Hertas (with power) on the bass drums at 5:15 (LATE in the song, mind you!)...OMG, I could feel my tibialis anterior muscles scream just by watching his performance! Just exceptional, and the amount of practice to have achieved such skill must be immense!
Incredible performance and great song choice, he certainly has the skill to make that sound so pure and natural. Deffo keep an eye out for more of his drumming.
Gavin is a machine, so tasteful yet always on time whilst making everything look effortless. And to not piss on other drummers, this is all live, no 50 takes...
Gavin sounds like no one else. The best way I can describe his sound is "angular". It's instantly recognizable. Porcupine Tree was amazing while they were around. Also, if you're looking to do another reaction, watch the "Time" video by Thomas Lang off the ProgPop album. I think you'll be captivated by it (you'll know what I mean instantly when watching it).
Amazing drummer, his background and influences are impressive, think he's got a book out with some really cool stuff, he also plays with another band called The Pineapple Thief, you should check his work there too.
Just discovered your channel. Nice vidéos dude. Keep up the good work (and by the way, i'm a little suprised you never react to a Baard Kolstad playthrough, such as The sky is red for example. Maaaaan, this guy is awesome)
a few months ago I came across Danny Carey , I already heard vicarious years ago and loved it but didnt know the bands names , so now Ive heard many more tool songs and watched Danny play live in yt , and of course Rush (Love Neil ) !!! since I was a teenager , and ive heard of porcupine tree and a litte of their music but wow after watching Gavin play he is on the same level , incredible percussionist !!! he has that something I cant put into words , like Neil or danny and many others that are on this level of skill and honestly Truley gifted , WOW
Big Porcupine Tree / King Crimson fan here. Gavin's not the first killer drummer either one of these bands have had, but he's definitely the best (possible exception - Bill Bruford). I think it's half-way through the video before Colby even blinks!
Well produced drums always sound good. Whether they truly sound as good as you think is another matter. If they're tuned well, with EQ I can make them sound like anything. One thing I learned after 25 years of working in studios is that rock and roll drums aren't real.
If you want to see more of Gavin I highly recommend him with King Crimson and the song Indicipline. They are three drummers in the band at this time in front and the rest of the band behind. They really having a good time behind the drums, even the band behind is smiling. What the drummers are doing here have never been done before. They are not just playing on the drums they play with the drums.....if you undersytand what I mean. Enjoy. th-cam.com/video/IpZxwe4SXY8/w-d-xo.html
So Gavin played this gig, you steal the video, “react” to it, and gain a following with income? No, I wouldn’t attend a “meet and greet” with you. The fantastic Porcupine Tree records Gavin plays on have been out for twenty years. The fact that you are just now hearing Gavin’s playing only shows how out of touch you have been.
Love Gavin but honestly this is one of the laziest reaction videos I've ever seen. No discussion of what he's doing at all, just inane comments and the occasional whoo.
You re barely commenting about gavins drumming. Actually as a drummer I cant see any reason to watch you to react drummers playthroughs and say nothing
Technically solid but I don't get the hype at all beyond that. Dynamically it's one note af. Compositionally it's predictable and straight forward. There are much better drummers out there with better feel and more creativity.
Gavin is a monster. This man has an overwhelming amount of finesse and technique.
Well said! My absolute favourite drummer right here!
For me, Gavin is the most PERFECT drummer I have ever seen!
Talent, technique, skills, on-pocketness (😆), taste, musicality, sense of composition, just... EVERYTHING at maximum grade as possible! By far my favorite as well.

Hands down one of the best drummers working today.
There is only one Gavin Harrison. He hits with such power, precision, and finesse, and he exudes control, all the while being fully in the pocket and totally complimenting the song. The absolute drummer's drummer.
Everytime I watch this performance I discover something new - that snare roll at 3:52 to accentuate "god" in the lyrics is ridiculous
He is a masterful composer. Keeps the flow of the song so well and interesting with super pleasing to the ear phrasing and fills yet hardly does anything the same.
Gavin’s the only drummer that plays piano on drums!! I can’t get enough of him❤
I am not a drummer, so I have no idea if technically is at the top echelon, but what I do care about is that he is one of the best musical drummer I have ever heard.
You have heard it right. The way Gavin uplifts the song while still remaining reserved is another level of talent. Gavin always and always plays for the sake of the song!
Oh, he's definitely in the highest of echelons. He is elite.
Virgil Donati is probably even more technical. But the difference is tiny, and I do prefer the musicality and approach to music that Gavin has. When a metronome needs a metronome, it asks for Gavin Harrison.
I've read similar comments about Neil Peart, so there's no question that Gavin Harrison is just as technically solid. Dude blows me away. I'm kinda surprised he didn't audition for Dream Theater after Portnoy left.... 😮😮
He is absolutely GOATed... Can't be in King Crimson otherwise
His drumming skills and mastery are on.par with Neil Peart, no question. Gavin is crazy amazing
I just heard his Sonar kit for the first time recently. I have to agree, it sounds amazing.
This song is sick love the time signatures on this my man is a beast an his fills are awesome
It is funny that many of you compare Gavin Harrison to el estepario...gavin being 100 levels above.
Exactly 😂😂 it's very funny but I mean I don't blame people. Gavin does everything for the sake of song whereas el estepario is a great drummer but mostly shows off.

He is so, so good and keeps getting better with every new release. Have to make a point of seeing him live one of these days!
Saw him with PT last summer. Absolutely stunning performance. No words.
Gavin harrisson is a beast .. so tight and clean.sound. He looks so relax. Masterclass .
His drum set, might as well be gold. He's a golden boy.
Theres a reason why Gavin is the best drummer to ever walk this earth, everything he plays is absolute perfection
Gavin is a beast. I would rather watch him play straight time than El whateverhisname is any day of the week. And Porcupine Tree is simply sublime.
Gavin IS the pocket. And this is an amazing song. Glad to have seen it live this summer.
His drum sound are top notch
Incredible performance and great song choice, he certainly has the skill to make that sound so pure and natural. Deffo keep an eye out for more of his drumming.
I've sat front row in front of Gavin's kit several times during his time in King Crimson. Mind blowing. And I've been front row for Rush.
Great drummer. Pocket for days! His kit also sounds amazing, how the toms are tubes, his splashes. Everything just right.
Gavin Harrison is simply amazing 👌 I absolutely adore his drumming 👏👏👏
You need to check out Porcupine Tree live videos.. 1) PT is an amazing live and 2) Gavin Harrison.
Brilliant! As a drummer, I love great drummers. So fun to watch and groove with.
My favorite Drummers Gavin Harrison and the 70's Phil Collins Incredible.
Gavin is a machine, so tasteful yet always on time whilst making everything look effortless.
And to not piss on other drummers, this is all live, no 50 takes...
If Gavin is not goated, then nobody else is

They're still around dude.
By far the best on the planet!
Check out Gavin's live playing on Porcupine Tree - Live Chicago - "Hatesong" simply mindblowing.
he is a great drummer
Gavin Harrison is not only a drummer , he is an perfect artist!!! Bravo❤
I'm not a drummer but I love watching this guy...he's bloody phenomenal...fun to watch too wow
Nuclear clocks are set on Gavin's pulsations
Something that would bring me absolute joy is watching and listening to Larnell Lewis take on this beast after one listen.
Amazing drummer, his background and influences are impressive, think he's got a book out with some really cool stuff, he also plays with another band called The Pineapple Thief, you should check his work there too.
Amazing drummer,I have been lucky enough to see him twice with porcupine tree, doesn't disappoint.
GH is a man’s man when it comes to drumming
The holy trinity of drums for me are Danny Carey, Gavin Harrison and Neil Peart
Just discovered your channel. Nice vidéos dude. Keep up the good work (and by the way, i'm a little suprised you never react to a Baard Kolstad playthrough, such as The sky is red for example. Maaaaan, this guy is awesome)
Brilliant doesn’t even begin to describe Gavin he is without a doubt top 5 in the world
Gavin Harrison is so dedicated to his craft. His attention to detail in every aspect is impeccable. This is why he’s the best of the best.
Take a holiday to the UK and I'll happily be up for a meet and greet! Haha This guy is so tight. Every hit is deliberately delivered
If you're not sure if he's a GOAT or not, check out Hatesong live
Absolute badass!!!
I have sonors full birch, the "cheaper" version, working with it I'm in love with it no desire to ever upgrade further but to add to it.
Got to see this live row 4 last TPT tour, was mind blown.
a few months ago I came across Danny Carey , I already heard vicarious years ago and loved it but didnt know the bands names , so now Ive heard many more tool songs and watched Danny play live in yt , and of course Rush (Love Neil ) !!! since I was a teenager , and ive heard of porcupine tree and a litte of their music but wow after watching Gavin play he is on the same level , incredible percussionist !!! he has that something I cant put into words , like Neil or danny and many others that are on this level of skill and honestly Truley gifted , WOW
Impeccable style for sure.
For sure 👍🏻
What a killer sound
And people say John Bonham is the greatest all time drummer
Gavin Harrison best unknown drummer. Like the best unknown band Porcupine tree...
You're impressed?? That's one of the Best drummers in the world. Show some respect
To think that people said Peter Criss was the best drummer ever..... 😅😅😅😅😅
Fantastic groove monster!
This isn't even the ti[ of the iceberg pf what this man can do
Clean complexity..Impressive!
Great!
Big Porcupine Tree / King Crimson fan here. Gavin's not the first killer drummer either one of these bands have had, but he's definitely the best (possible exception - Bill Bruford). I think it's half-way through the video before Colby even blinks!
Vinnie and Gavin are on a level unto themselves.....
Set knew standards! Utter class!!!
What would El Esteparios version of the same song be like ? Good battle
That would be a great battle
Gav is so groovy!!!!
Nah man Gavin is the goat after Neil Peart
I love listening to GHarrison - but I would also have loved to hear Colby's *reaction* to GH's playing, because, really, there *wasn't* any.
Gavin is definitely The King of drums.
Saw him with king crimson front row directly in front of him it was a religious experience
Same! Sound became a solid in front of that kit.
Well produced drums always sound good. Whether they truly sound as good as you think is another matter. If they're tuned well, with EQ I can make them sound like anything.
One thing I learned after 25 years of working in studios is that rock and roll drums aren't real.
So am I. (impressed) total greatness
👌🏻
Who actually drums better than this total machine.
is this guy an actual drummer or just uses other drummers for video likes
Not even close to one of his more complex songs. Gavin is a beast.
Absolut great. Thanks a lot Colby.
React Jason Rullo, he is The Dave Weckl from Prog music. One of The best Drummer out there
If you want to see more of Gavin I highly recommend him with King Crimson and the song Indicipline. They are three drummers in the band at this time in front and the rest of the band behind. Check out his work with the band OSI.
At 1.49 what dose he change on his kick and hihat, please, I need to know
impressed, he is amazing!
He’s very good 👍
El título es bastante preciso. Una reacción, cero análisis, cero comentarios más allá de lo caro que es el kit de batería, en fin…
you should have said it sounds like its gold
Tasty fills.

you need to check out the 3 mad men of King Crimson - Indiscipline might be a good start
I wish…..
Gavin is monster!
Love this drummer ❤
Gavin is a phenomenon.
Harrison,Carey,Bonham,Cobham
Oh my...second best after Bonham
You're impressed? He is one of the best drummers in the world. I'd hope so
Looks like El Estepario has some competition with this guy. He's awesome!
Very good drummer 🥁
Comparing Gavin Harrison to El estepario is like comparing a Ferrari to a Fiat....
@@billakis2000El Estepario is definitely a little bit better than Gavin Harrison, but it would be interesting to see them compete.
@@celiasjoblom1795 yes you got that right 👍....... 😂
i hate the internet so much..
I would love to do a meat greet with you Colby and talk drums
Check out "Tribute to buddy rich" steve gadd, vinne c, dave wekel
I’ll do it!
They rule
Dude... " that drum set look expensive" come on dude...
No offense, but not knowing Gavin is an offense....
Love Gavin but honestly this is one of the laziest reaction videos I've ever seen. No discussion of what he's doing at all, just inane comments and the occasional whoo.
Easy to get absorbed in the playing
