Best live version of a song . ...ever.
This or Comfortably Numb from Pink Floyd’s Pulse tour
Deadhead - The Devin Townsend Project
I totally agree with you
Absolutely!
its not up there at all with the others you mentioned, but the sound engineer does a crazy job on the red rocks 2019 version of opeth - ghost of perdition. everything comes out so clean. drummer going hammer and tongs and everything else!
This song is so much better live than the original imo
Except for the guitar solo..
Meh... lives good too... but I could listen to the original 10 times in a row. Now SEEING it live in person... there’s nothing like that.
As with everything Steven does. His live sound/production is always top notch.
I simply like the first solo better, which is why I prefer the album version (I usually prefer albums versions of any song for some reason)
Agreed…yet every great band plays their stuff better live. It’s incredible. That’s what separates the haves and the have nots.
Gavin Harrison’s drumming is just so damn clean. Guy is a monster.
A clean monster perhaps
He is extremely skilled but extremely reserved.
Now that Neil Peart is sadly gone, my favourite living drummer for sure. If you haven't heard it, his work with The Pineapple Thief is sublime and has elevated the band to a whole new level imho.
@@TheAsphyx666 It's difficult for me to put anyone above Danny Carey, but Gavin Harrison solidly holds down that spot right behind him.
You don’t get crap drummers in prog bands. Bill Bruford, Phil Collins, Neil Peart etc, etc.
Porcupine tree es impresionante ❤❤❤
The drummer is one of the best ghost beat specialist.
Yeah the ghost notes in the last section of the song are phenomenal. Such finesse and control in Gavins playing, it blows my mind everytime.
Up there in the stratosphere with Tool is Porcupine Tree. This is a sublime live performance that was fortunate to be captured for posterity. The heavens opened momentarily to allow music of the divine to lift us to a higher realm.
What a beautiful comment :)
Yep…me too. I’m lucky enough to have seen both live. Absolute dominance of their specialties…in every way imaginable. Greatness…yet these days some person with a mic and a rhyme gets the airtime. That’s fine with me….plastic will eventually break, regardless of how much one likes it.
seeing them both in may and november 2022! ill let you know but i like PT style more so i might be biased....
@@jasonjenkins6373 How was may? :)
@@PrismaticFitness tool front row was excellent. Im seeing porcupine tree in nov!
Gavin Harrison on this song: Honestly, no words. I don't think I've ever seen or heard a better drum performance. Perfect is not even the right word.
True.
Gavin's fills are incredible, Wesley's voice harmonizes beautifully with Wilson's and Edwin's bass grooves being more audible really make the live version a lot more enjoyable to me than the studio.
I wish they did one more Album 8(
@@matter311 That's one thing I love and hate about progressive musicians, they're not afraid to branch out if they feel they're not improving as musicians. It's an admirable trait but DAMMIT JUST KEEP MAKING PORCUPINE TREE MUSIC!
@@bretmorris830 Fear of a Blank Planet was my fave album. Haven't really been a fan of Wilsons solo stuff, At least we are getting a new Liquid Tension Experiment after 20 years!!!! I keep an eye on Gavins projects, Hope the other guys are still out there rockin.
@@matter311 I'm only aware of Gavin's work with The Pineapple Thief and Iamthemorning, any other projects I should check out?
@@matter311 Steven got tired of not having full creative control and he admitted he's too much of a jerk to listen to the input of extraordinary musicians such as Barbieri, Edwin, and Harrison
It's a wonderful thing seeing 2 people get such a kick out of music together. I don't know how many times I have watched this live video of Anesthetize. :)
absolutely one of the best songs ever written.
Missing your Porcupine Tree reactions, so rewatching the old ones. 🤷♂️
So good! Had the pleasure of seeing Porcupine Tree and Opeth co-headline a show some years ago. A better night of music cannot be had.
Im jealous and yet very happy for you :)
Lucky bastard XD
Only thing was that opeth was playing an acoustic album yes the encoré were nice. I saw both in nyc.
@@jordansbeard well, not exactly acoustic, but they were playing/supporting the Damnation record; which is great.
I still like black water park
This song is life-changing.
By far, the absolute best PT song, in my opinion. I know others may argue that, but this is mine. Keep them coming. Thanks!!
Great Band. Live they're unequaled
Richard Barbieri - The Mood God!
I got to watch most of these live (not in tilburg) was my 3rd concert, absolutely mesmerizing.
Wow. This song is so good! How good is that drummer? The bass, the chorus, the transitions, the solo's. It's all great!
The drummer, Gavin Harrison, is imo the best living rock drummer today (RIP Neil Peart).
Its Gavin Harrison. Don't question his divine power
Hands down, the best reaction video I've ever seen. The popcorn of the song going off in your head means it spoke to you like it was supposed to. Don't stop here, you are on a musical journey with PT and Steven Wilson.
Probably the best reaction I have seen, I have been lucky enough to see them do this live a couple of times. Well done guys
Never get tired of this song. Pure magic. What a composition. And... THE DRUMS! The bass. The lyrics. The keyboards. The guitars. Did I mention THE DRUMS! GAVIN HARRISON!
Another Porcupine Tree masterpiece absolutely excellent.
Pedazo de tema
Getting goosebumps everytime Steven Wilson music starts.
You guys are always fun to watch with how much you get into it.
Gavin is the Baskin & Robins of drumming. There are so many flavours that he mixes in. Absolutely mind blowing how he manages to bring out every nuance of the music he plays on. Simply a monumental talent.
best live recording ever. Best reaction video ever. You are so enthusiastic. It gives me a big smile! thanks
High end live musik at its best.... One of the best live conserts ever..marry journey & happy xmax from Denmark
PS never stop being so happy..🤘😀❤️
Thanks! That’s the goal! Choose JOY in life 🤘 😊
A little fun fact @4:08 on the studio version, Alex Lifeson (of Rush) wrote the solo.
Porcupine Tree “Arriving Somewhere but not Here" , "Trains "
"sound of muzak" "The Start Of Something Beautiful" great live
Trains has to be live because the album version is VERY different
Yeahhh
Every time I see this performance I ask myself “how?” There are so many moving parts on that song? How the heck do they pull it off live? How do they even remember all the parts, and the order in which to play them, and not miss a single note or lyric? Just astounding.
Well I love porcupine tree in general so when I went to go see them in 2008 they played this and I was stunned by their remembrance of all the moving parts and the fast section with the insane double bass stuff Gavin missed the symbol and through the stick out into the crowd and I was like oh my God that section is so hard I couldn’t like fathom how he was even doing it to begin with.
Try listening to Genesis doing “Supper’s ready”.
im a simp but its 3 songs mashed together. a 15minute dream theater looks more taxing as well, then if you cross over into jazz music what a nightmare that would be...
Your reaction to 1 of my favorite bands was fantastic. I am a new subscriber!! Porcupine Tree is amazing. They are all "Elite" musicians. Amongst the best of the best. Happy that you have found them.
This is a Masterpiece!!
Any song from the Anesthetize concert is incredible! Also, the concert from Chicago “Arriving Somewhere but not Here” is truly amazing! ❤️❤️
Every video reaction of them I have a smile on my face ❤
Love your reactions. I felt the same way the first time I heard PT. Your reactions take me back. 😃
widze to po dwóch latach ale widze też ze sie bardzo kochacie .........życze wam zdrowia i szcześcia na zawsze
Man the drummer was showing out.He has great stick work and the fills were sick. The tone of his drums was on point, the pop of the toms and snare was insane.🔥
Gavin Harrison is one of the best drummers out there.
Everyone y suggesting Arriving Somewhere But Not Here....and it's a good one. But I would submit Way Out Of Here , and for a short song .....Halo.
Halo from Chicago is a better version than Tilburg imo
Agree, Arriving... is an incredible song, but that performance of Way Out of Here is just mad, and I'd even say Sentimental & Normal are incredible from that concert.
way out of here from Tilburg show
Thanks for sharing your smile and love for music... PT is un incredible band... Steven and Gavin are gods...
Porcupine Tree - Arriving somewhere but not here (live)
Saw this song performed live just a couple months ago. They just killed it!
I always like a little PT love! Been listening to them for years. Thanks for the reaction!
On a PT bender and just watched your reaction for at least the second time (also watched it when it was new). I think this is one of the greatest live performances ever recorded, and you guys get it. Great reaction!
Gavin Harrison is... i have no Words. Ouchhhh is my only word
You spoke the truth- Porcupine Tree is one of the GOATS!
So happy to hear that SW has reformed PT. Now I must see them live.
Ah yes, the rabbit hole of porcupine tree and Steven Wilson concert videos. Gavin Harrison is one sick drummer...and the second half of this song from 13:03, so extraordinarily beautiful I trip balls while vibing to it XD
So great you checked out the live version......
So glad we did!
@@enitaly Get to work kook
@@dmusiclife5727 😂 but it’s no fun
I loved your reaction. It was so candid, his reaction is so authentic, it is as suprising as it would be listening Porcupine Tree to a first time listener. He reminded me the first time I listened to this GREAT band. Their music goes beyond beauty in so many ways it becomes difficult to describe. Wonderful video, guys.
Lovely reaction. 🙏🌅🌟❤
One of my favourite pieces from PT😻
Our girl's loving on this😁😁😁😁
no stops, just so many emotions from two beauties for this monument of humankind and music. pleasure to see and especially hear.
This is one of the best live performance I've ever seen, and if it happens to not be the best it's only because the "The Start Of Something Beautiful" live is just magical.
You guys rock! Love your reactions!
Thanks man!
yes!! twice is nice!! lol I keep watching your first reaction to this.
I saw these guys back in 2010 and it was perfection.
Esa mujer si que se lo goza!
PT fans are outstanding - they're mostly people who've been following them since (or close to) inception. They're one of the most underrated prog rock/metal bands in the world. Mikael Akerfeldt (of Opeth) - is very good friends with Steven Wilson (main brain behind the band & vocalist) who has produced (and performed) 3 Opeth albums also - has said in an interview that he never understood why PT weren't the biggest band in the world (well, we all know why)... Anyway, I am glad you liked the performance, it truly is unbelievable to see what these musicians can do LIVE.
For some more PT songs: Arriving Somewhere But Not Here (live in Chicago) or HATESONG (live in Chicago); the latter will show you what Gavin Harrison (who by far is the most musically creative and skilfully incredible drummer of this generation - IMO) is really all about. Your jaw (most likely) will be on the floor after watching that song :)
And on the "crazy fans" tangent; you should check NIGHTWISH (Ghost Love Score) live at Wacken 2013.- the band has "an army of fans" - literally :D
I’m so glad you finally know what we all do about Porcupine Tree. Try blackest eyes.
This song is so meaningful to you guys, can see!
Glad you both bought into Steven and his crew. The guy is a musical GENIUS who surrounds himself with elite level musicians. We are lucky to have him on Earth.
Great reaction vid, again!
Some of the finest musicians on the planet. I've been addicted to PT for years. Gavin Harrison 😍. As others have commented on here: Arriving somewhere but not here, live version. Do that one next. Soooo many other fantastic songs, really not a bad one exists. I really enjoyed watching your reaction to this song. "Game over"
Tilburg!! netherlands!! greetings from holland. great video!
It's a masterpiece. No doubt.
I love Porcupine tree.
No one will ever convince me that this isn't the greatest live recording of the greatest song created in the last 50 years.
Generally one of the best songs ever written and performed. It goes under the radar. Drumming is the best and most clean I've ever heard. Man I love Prog
You're awesome. Brazillian fan... :)
It doesn't get much better than this- fantastic!
Love your reactions btw...!!
NEXT DO ...'ARRIVING SOMEHWHERE BUT NOT HERE'. Another gem of a track !!
Live!
Live from Chicago
Both!!!
First the studio version and then live in Chicago
Porcupine Tree is what happens when you bunch together relentlessly serious and perfection seeking musicians who are masters of their craft... this is showing off in the best possible taste
I have to say that, Steven Wilson solo performances are also top notch.
Arriving somewhere but not here. Great reaction as always.
Vous êtes beaux...!!
I am loving your sincere reaction
This is sheer music perfection
I am like these guys when this song comes up in my daily tracklist
The sleep of no dreaming 👍🏻🤘🤘
This band needs to come back.
Out of all the bands that need to come back, PT is number 1. Long overdue
They're coming back. Check their Facebook page.

This exactly how I reacted when I first discovered Porcupine Tree ......PS the live cut are so much more detailed than their studio works
That was awesome
Been waiting for this absolute GEM, hell yes.
Wow, these guys don't mess around. I'll be looking more into them! Rock on, you two!
Howdy good couple. I can't remember your names, due to my medications, but I always enjoy the joy of the music you guys have.
Thank you from Roma Ciaoooooo!!!!
I get areal kick out of watching your response, Great music. Great response. Thanks.
Soooo good....
he descubierto hace 2 días este tema y ha sido una completa locura ....me representa totalmente la reacción del chico del video ....comenzaré a escuchar más temas de esta banda porque si son la mitad de buenos de lo que es esta canción ufffff....
Live they are at their best. The whole concert is a must.
Steven Wilson, the singer, has an impressive solo career too.
