I remember the days when a white Astra van was the fastest vehicle in the M4 motorway!!!!
I reckon one went past me doing 110mph+ one day in the 80s......

In 1984 my first job was a trainee service engineer, the company had a brand new MK1 Astra van, it felt like a space ship compared to the rest of the Morris Marina fleet they ran ! In the 90’s I had a 1.4 petrol estate and 1.7 diesel van service vehicles, as now the 1.4 petrol was great fun to bomb around in 🔧🔧👍👍.

Hey Steve. enjoyed this vid. Whats happening with the MK2 these days. I was watching your video about your radiator swap. I have a MK2 that has the electric fans but when driving the thing the heat coming into car from the hot engine is tremendous on longish journeys. I think the previous owner even bought a switch with a lower temp to try and deal with it. Have you had any issues.. regards GN

Hi the MK 2 has had to wait for now I just don’t have the time to keep my fleet running, run my business work on the house etc. if you have one then you know they just take forever to fix up. Regarding the heat issue the XK engine creates an enormous amount of heat I used to have a series one XJ6. All that heat in a cramped MK2 engine bay is not ideal. Bonnet louvres will help that’s why it’s a popular mod. Only had a 2.4 MK 2 in the past which I never drove far so can’t say I’ve had the same problem. Best regards Steve
